Starwars series on Blu confirmed

Definately hope all of the stuff that was digitally added for the special editions aren't included. That shit ruined the movies i loved for so many years growing up.

You do realize it's 2010, right? Not everyone grew up in the 80s.

I have the movies they sold at Wal-Mart where it had the Theatrical uncut edition at wal-mart for 13 a piece. I have yet to watch them though cause I need to be in the mood. I havn't been with the back log of games. Eventually I'll check them out and see if it's really the uncut versions.

As for the Bl-Rays, we need not kid our selves. I mean, I think this picture says it all....

Yes, that's a Han shot first shirt.

Star Wars is done with. I refuse to swallow the garbage that Lucas added to the new versions, and Ep, 1,2, and 3 are crap, too. . Throw in his writing work on Indiana Jones 4 and you have a man who has lost his damn mind. Star Wars is better when George Lucas has very little to do with it, such as KOTOR.

Yes i realize that, but those of us who grew up then were the ones who helped make it the phenomenon it is, by falling in love with it.

You realize George Lucas doesn't give a fuck.

wow.. perhaps to end this debate, maybe since BD is such an awesome format, they will realize they could use something like U-Control or whatever, and you can opt whether or not to watch it with the additional footage or without. kinda seems like a no-brainer now that I think about it..
I keep seeing people complaining about wanting the original release(s) only. Are there even many differences? The only ones I can think of is Han shoots first in IV and Anakin's ghost in VI. If those are the only changes, I can't see what the fuss is about...
There is the complete changing of the musical numbers in Return of the Jedi. Both the song in Jabba's palace and the ending Ewok number were changed for the better, in my opinion.

I can remember sitting in the theater 25+ years ago covering my head with my hands with embarrassment during these musical interludes. The remakes in this regard make Jedi much more tolerable. Now I only cringe when I see Jar-Jar arrivin', when someone steps in poo-doo, or when Jake Lloyd or Christensen are act...I mean, speaking dialog.

Hopefully it will have both versions. They did put out the originals on DVD a few years ago--albeit in non-anamorphic widescreen.

I don't mind the new special effects much--just the silly changes like Greedo shooting first, Luke screaming when he falls in the end of Empire etc. that changed the ton of scenes/characters.

But I'd still buy it if it's on the the SEs as even those things never boiled my blood like it didn't many people.

Come on, who doesn't like to celebrate the love?
The Ewok song is what made me love Return of the Jedi.
Yeah, plus the ending montage showing the other planets they added was genius to really make the Star Wars world feel more vast than it did in the OT. That change added a lot to the power of the scene and overall movie experience.

^^lol, yeah, I know, it was late last night..the article in the OP just goes off vague 'tweets' when I went to IGN it was plastered as the first article, so i was like 'ZOMG!' It just confirmed differently..

What could they possibly have "found" that they haven't already found in the last 33 years?

I was hoping that there were no more personal interviews telling us how much of a genius Lucas is, but I guess I must be wrong.

The recordings of the Star Wars Christmas Special?
The Holiday special needs to be in the extras
Just watched it this past Christmas and no, it doesn't. It isn't even worth watching for the humor factor, it is out and out a piece of shit.
I think im one of the few people who love the original cuts, but the new remastered ones with han not shooting first and such are great.

I still cant believe people bitch about who shoots first in a gun fight that last 3 seconds.
Maybe someone already mentioned this but it isn't about who shoots first, it's about why Han doesn't shoot first.

If we accept that Star Wars is about the life, fall, redemption, and death of Anakin Skywalker, does that mean that no one else gets to change throughout the series?

Han Solo is a mercenary who, throughout the trilogy, learns to care about more than himself and money. Han shot first because he was a dick in episode 4. His first "turn" comes when he ultimately doesn't abandon the Rebels during the Death Star battle. Having Han fire in self defense plants seeds of, "This guy isn't such a scoundrel after all" way earlier than the end of Ep. 4.

I don't really care that much, my complaint is more that the new version of the scene looks like crap from a technical standpoint.

I can honestly say I never could have told you the difference of who shot first prior to the Special Edition coming out and everyone making a big deal about it. I still "got it" that he was a scoundrel without paying much attention to that scene. There was plenty of other ways that it was shown that he was a seedy character without looking at who shot first.

The Holiday Special in HD would be truly hilarious. I would love it if that were included (not to mention the Ewok movies), but I am pretty sure that if you asked him Lucas would deny the existence of the Holiday Special. Has to be one of the worst things ever put on film.

Greedo doesn't shoot anything in the original scene. He doesn't get a shot off before Han Solo pops him. This is what made it awesome - it's not actually about who shot who first. Han Solo was a bad ass. Now it looks like he was just acting out of self defense - it does the character a MAJOR disservice.

Sooooooooooooooooooo.... let me get this straight........................ You CAN'T update the films on Blu Ray because it would "take too long", but you can follow the bandwagon to put it in 3D just because it's "3D"..................................???????????????????????????????????????????????????? Wow.................................................................................

Granted the 3D releases are rumored to come out no more frequently than once a year, and I think we'd all rather get the Blu Rays soon rather than waiting another 6 or 7 years or however long it would take to update them.

I already have like 2-3 different DVD versions of the 6 films. I guess another version in Blu-ray wouldn't hurt ;)

Hopefully they would put both theatrical and SE cuts on the discs. Technically they can but their greed tells them otherwise.
The Holiday Special in HD would be truly hilarious.
I'm going into unnecessary detail here, but just to point it out, that would actually be impossible. It was shot on videotape, not film, at standard NTSC TV resolution, so there is no higher-resolution source available. What a shame, right?

people taking a movie so seriously in this thread makes me laugh. tbe only thing i dont like about the extended cut is the replacement of darth vader at the end of jedi. it seems like a slap in the face to the original actor.
Can't believe the 3 worst movies are coming out first in 3d.
I can only because its probably easier to convert episodes 1-3 due to all the CGI in them.

I knew Lucas was going to jump on the 3D bandwagon and I'm not really impressed. I'll probably only see Empire at the theaters only because I've been wanting to see that on the big screen, just sucks it's going to be in 3D.

I just wish Lucas would do both. Show the films in 3D and 2D. I would goto every film to see it on the big screen again. But converted 3D? Not so much.

I will not get any version in which Greedo shoots first.

I don't mind them correcting mistakes or adding another level of special effects (3D), but when they mess with the story that's where I draw the line. Han shot first and that's how I want it to be every time I see episode 4!

I normaly wouldn't give a damn as to who shot first. However after what I read as to why it was not Greedo shooting first to begin with is just bullshit. To say they did not have the tools or the tech to do it at the time is bullshit. The truth is you later changed your mind as to how you wanted it and when rereleasing them to theaters you had your chance to change it.

The biggest issue I have is with changing Vader at the end of Jedi. Like someone else said it seems like it would be a slap in the face to the actor and is bullshit.

It changes the character. Han is NOT a good guy. He doesn't sit around and wait to see if the other guy is going to fire. He blows the motherfucker away and moves on. Changing who shoots first fundamentally changes the character. The new "music" number in jedi is WAY the fuck out of place too. Empire is the only special addition that is worth a damn because, for the most part, they honestly only added stuff they couldn't do at the time. New Hope and Jedi, they do that some too, but they also add a lot of shit that has no business being there.

George just made a clown of Solo all around. Like the IV Special Edition where they put Jabba in the movie. The original Jabba was a human and the scene was shot already. But when they used CGI to put the final Jabba design in, they had Han "step on his tail" because in the original scene Han circled the human Jabba. So, I guess you could say they made Jabba look like a clown too, with that needless slapstick bullshit scene to appeal to kids and make them think Jabba is also unecessarily "kid-friendly."

What made Star Wars great was the darkness in the original trilogy. Han was a bastard, slave Leia was technically sex slave Leia, and Jabba's palace wasn't an intergalactic Chuck-E-fuckin-Cheese.

At the same time, part of why the prequel trilogy sucked was it was too blatant with the dark subject matter. To the point of it being an equal combination of melodramatic and comical, thanks to George's one-take directing style. Where he made world class actors look like kids in a high school play.
