Street Fighter IV PS3 Official Discussion Thread
fuck you Ken online players. at least play Ryu if you're going to play shoto.
But he's on fire when he does Shoryukens! ON FIRE! IT'S SO EXTREME!
But he's on fire when he does Shoryukens! ON FIRE! IT'S SO EXTREME!
Same could be said about flaming homosexuals. not that I don't like them, just annoying.

So why do people hate the shoto's online? Especially Ken.
I'm assuming it's because they like to spam the same few moves over and over, but wouldn't that just make them easy to beat?

It's because people don't like fighting the same basic character over and over and over and over and over. We want some variety.
Anyone have a good strategy to actually land Vega's Ultra? I'm always way too high up on the screen.
I think you should make sure your opponent is standing near the middle of the screen before you throw it out.

I havnt found it posted (might be buried), but was reading that there is "secret additional downloadable content that we’re not quite ready to reveal at this point. Look for more announcements soon!" from this
anyone know what it is (or if that is true)?
I don't know why but I could listen to the Character Select BGM for hours and never get tired of it. :whistle2:\"
I am surprised that the OST included with the CE didn't open with it. I want it, with both English and Japanese lyrics.

But the Sakura theme is hawt stuff, I love it.

As for hating fighting shotos online, I think playing all these shotos online has degraded my play skill. I play ranked for a bit, go against like 10+ shotos and then totally scrub it up against a below average M. Bison simply because I am in this shoto destroying mindset.

Oh the DLC they are refering to in the Kotaku link is the Brawler pack DLC, when that article was posted, they didn't announce alt costumes as DLC yet.

ok thanks ohvermie, found the detail because of your post "The Collector's edition will come with the brawler pack of alternate costumes, meaning you get the alts for Zangief, Honda, Abel, Elfuerte and Rufus." too bad it isnt exclusive to CE.
With who?

Also, this pic made me laugh.
And I play as him. :)

best picture because it is so true. lol
GGs Kenpachi.

mother freakin Honda man... I never played him yet but he gives me as much trouble as Balrog does!!

I still gotta level up my Blanka, less turtle and more rushdown, otherwise I jus lose lol
thanks jekki. I feel like I have to turn super saiyan to beat your blanka. ggs. I will see you again soon.
SFIV Patch 1.02 - No Ken Mode

Total number of players - 3
I have to disagree When ever I play I see a little bit of everybody. with the most zangiefs and sagats as of recently.

also if anybody has ever played me they know I tend to pick a variety of characters as that I can play somewhat good with almost everybody.
So why do people hate the shoto's online? Especially Ken.

i think it is because ken and ryu are your basic safe characters. anybody new to any different street fighter game can pick them up and more or less give anyone a challenge. using almost anyone else in the game takes much more skill.

I think the frequency of Ken/Ryu has to do with your BP ranking. Once you get up to the high thousands you will start seeing the rest of the cast. It's just the low end that's all Ken/Ryu because of their accessibility.

If it's non-ranked, I'll play anyone and anything (check out my horrible C. Viper, at least she's styling!). If it's ranked, I will go Blanka, Guile, or Balrog.

Anyone know how to get more icons besides the flower ones that come with certain amount of wins in ranked? I played someone last night that had a cardboard box with a Vega mask on it.

I've only played 1 ranked match the first day I had the game, and I was testing a new character so i got destroyed. My BP stayed 0 though, so whatever.

How does the BP work? If you lose does it go down? Or does it stay the same?

If you lose, it drops. Pretty significantly, too. Several wins against a person of equal BP = one loss against a person of equal BP.

wow. that's kind of lame. I was thinking it would probably be similar to the SSBB online ranking, where if i remember correctly, you only moved up, not down.

The approach is more like Halo 3's ranking system. The idea is that you'll be able to face people of your own presumed skill level based on this BP number.

yea, i understand- it makes sense. On the other system you can suck pretty bad and still build up a high rank just by sheer determination.
The approach is more like Halo 3's ranking system. The idea is that you'll be able to face people of your own presumed skill level based on this BP number.
Well then the system is flawed fubar style. I have 54 BPs (maybe) and I'm constantly playing people with 500+ BPs. I have it set on "find my skill level" in the options too. :whistle2:k

DarkKenpachi just ran a clinic (as in beatdown) on me. I was too in awe of his awesome dragonpunch and FACD combos. I sent out my joystick and now I am trying to use the DS3 analog stick. I think I need to move to the d-pad.
Also, Dark, after you killing me 6 times in a row, I defeated like 5 dudes with blanka and zangief. I think you showed me to be more aggresive and BLOCK!!

Speaking of which, I can't seem to block Ken's EX dragon punch. Do I crouch block or just block?

I can understand that. I'm guessing that once things start rounding out a bit more, the playing field will even itself out. Right now, you're probably facing people with 500 BPs that will ultimate have thousands and thousands.
Speaking of which, I can't seem to block Ken's EX dragon punch. Do I crouch block or just block?
It's not an overhead attack. Block or crouch block. It shouldn't matter. Priority wise it'll trump anything you try to perform against it when it starts.

Ken and Sagat need NERFING. Ken just out of spite and Sagat because he can be really unbalanced in the hands of a spammer.
Ken and Sagat need NERFING. Ken just out of spite and Sagat because he can be really unbalanced in the hands of a spammer.
Sagat has always needed nerfing. I don't know if he's ever NOT been top tier.

Ken doesn't need nerfing. If you're having a lot of trouble against a scrubby Ken, you just have to look to punish overzealous Shoryukens. A good Ken player is very capable, but not overpowered. It just so happens that a scrubby Ken with outscrub another scrubby player due to priority.

Sagat spams you to death on the hardest diff. Also does a few others. I unlocked all the characters last night, and beat it on hard it makes me proud. xD
As if Ken's dragon punch needed any more priority... :p
True, but it only acts like this on a grounded opponent. And it's also the riskiest to use on a grounded opponent (unless you're in the middle of a combo of course). EX Shoryken flies way high in the air. Just let that Ultra fly as he's coming down.

I'm not having any trouble with Ken. I beat 99% of Ken's online. I just want Ken nerfed for the hell of it and just for shits and giggles to see what the scrub fans do. I always punish Shoryukens with Scrub Toss or Ultra/Super Combos if I have em.

And Sagat just needs nerfing because Capcom needs to get rid of their hard on for him. He throws his tiger shots way too fast compared to everyone else's projectile. If they slowed it down a bit, then I'd be more ok with him, but his almost seem instataniuous compared to everyone else's fireballs.

It's only because everyone wants to be a little Daigo. I'm a Ken player, so I obviously have a vested interest in him not being nerfed.

Sagat's fireballs are fast, but you can duck/jump over them easier than any other fireball. And Sagat sticks his arms way out in the middle of the screen. I think fireball wars are largely less effective in IV because of the Focus Attack (although not as much as in III because of the Parry). If you Focus Attack the fireballs, you get revenge meter... and against a Tiger Shot happy Sagat, you can just evade their projectiles until your health regenerates.

In SF3:3S, I seem to remember there being a lot of moves that could pass under some of the higher projectiles like Remy's sonic boom. If they did it again in 4, and that knowledge spreads, he'll be nerfed on his own.

Isn't Ken supposed to be near bottom tier in competative play?

There are some normal moves that slide under projectiles... notably Blanka's c.forward HP. There are, of course, other moves that pass through projectiles entirely.

Last I heard Ken was average. So far, Ryu is claimed to be better. I guess Ken had his spotlight in 3, after all.

Yea, i know that- and i guess it's the same- but it was just a few special attacks that came in low.

Anyone have any good play strategies for Gouken? He seemed fun when i played with him last night, but at the same time, a lot of his moves seemed to be very vulnerable (hurricane kick mainly)

I haven't played with him much, but his rushing punch apparently goes through projectiles.

His hurricane kick is more of an antiair move when compared to Ryu and Ken. Also, notice the trajectory when used in the air. It can be useful for mobility.

And everyone keeps telling me throw into Ultra is a beautiful thing.

yea, he has a few moves that allow for juggles- like his throw, and his EX rushing punch. I was having a hard time using his angled fireballs because of the DS3. I might go back to him once i get my Saturn controller working.

I've noticed a few little bitty references to other street fighter games littered around in SF4. Anyone see anything interesting?

The most obvious was Yun/Yang in Chun-li's intro. Last night I noticed Seth tells Boxer that his skills are sloppy and he has already recorded a boxer that was much more refined. I saw that as a Dudley reference, but maybe I was reading too far into it.

(Sorry to double post!)

Would you guys like to get together Friday and Saturday and make some way that we could all chat together while we're playing? I wish you could get in and out of Home quicker, if so that would be a viable option.

Got my first bastard who disconnected after I defeated him in an online match yesterday and it was only a Player match. Good to know that it counts as a loss for them if they disconnect though.

Anybody have any tips for a brand new Street Fighter player? I've never really gotten into fighting games before, but I love SFIV. Unfortunately, I'm terrible at it :(....

Any ideas for as to how I can improve? I've been trying to find a character to main (basically spending a day online with each one...no luck so far), but any tips for how to practice, who to pick, what to work on?

Thanks!

Dudley is gutter trash compared to Balrog. Balrog is faster, stronger and bigger then Dudley. Though from pure personality Dudley does edge out Balrog.

read my blog post ?

thats where i started.

i played SF2turbo when i was 8, then played marvel vs capcom 2 for fun.

after that didnt touch fighting games till tekken tag for fun... played for a week then stopped. then got tekken DR on psn, played randomly for fun.

then i got SF4, played for 20 hours after 4 days of owning it.

lol think im pretty decent now
If Seth weren't such a pain in my ass, I would actually attempt to go for the single play trophies, but honestly, why frustrate myself on that stuff, when I can frustrate myself by playing poorly online. ;)
You beat me three games in a row (PalaceBrother), but that isn't saying a lot. I'm about two for forty in total online matches.

Thanks for not being a douche btw-I can't tell you how frustrating the crowd has been so far for me on PSN. Not sure if that's a universal experience or what...

omg time challenge 10. flippin blanka keep stopping me from getting past that challenge and getting along in my life to complete my trophies. arghhh just had to post about it.

I think I can't beat blank because of jekki. everytime I see him now I freeze. THANKS JEKKI FOR SCARRING ME FOR LIFE. lol

just to make sure, are the alternate costumes on PSN game-sharable? I'm going to assume they are, just like everything else on PSN it seems like

Been maining Rose lately.

I like her style, very easy to play mind games with her. A few air throws here, a couple of reflects there and it's funny how much people are thrown off their rhythm and hesitant to get back into their strategy.

Helps that in 150+ fights online, I've never seen a Rose player online other than myself.

Also, on a side note does anyone here use a Hori fighting Stick 3?

http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0256628

I'm thinking of picking them up because $150 is way too much to pay for some controllers especially since I'll need to buy two of them.

Does the Hori 3 work on Vista 64 bit ?

I have that stick. I believe it worked on Gametap when I played with Windows 7 64bit and Vista 64 bit. I honestly suck with it on SFIV, but I haven't used it much so I probably need way more practice. I haven't used any other sticks either. Sorry that pretty much the only thing I said was "It SHOULD work with 64 OS's, lol".

I play Rose too, but I don't main her. She's a backup. I main Dictator.

And to Nibi, sorry I haven't been able to accept your invite. I left my PS3 on and went out to do an errand.

If anyone wants to play a couple of matches, I'm on right now. Send me an invite.

Holy crap Jman! Fifty matches. That was pretty nicely done. I had a great time playing you and I learned quite a bit.

GGs wotcher.

sum advice:

learn to SPD more consistently with Zangief. Zangief is a cheap bastard and u had me in hella situations where u coulda nailed me, but u never did. I felt a lot safer thus playing against your Gief and did a lot of things I normally wouldnt do against him.

also u seem quite comfortable with Cammy. You should practice her more. Cammy is like Ryu n Ken in like she has a lot of easy 2-3-hit combos that can do nice damage. Try to learn a lot of these combos and find the opportunities to land them.

the Cammy tutorial combo vid from 1up was actually released earlier today, check it out

http://gamevideos.1up.com/video/id/23793

also if u guys havent seen 1up's SFIV superguide yet... wtf, go check it out now.

http://mycheats.1up.com/view/superguide/3163881/street_fighter_4/xbox_360

it's one of the best online resources for this game that's very entry-level friendly.

The crowd on PSN has been decent. Although last night I played a couple ranked matches against some disconnecters.

Funny thing was, they were both playing Akuma. I was kind of being a douche to them though. I just kept on baiting them and then biting them in the face. I would win round one with nothing but throws, and then the first throw of round two...disconnect. :p
