people be sure to check out the top 10 beat em ups here... while I don't totally agree, it's nice to see someone can separate beat-em-ups as a thing of their own.

http://www.gametrailers.com/screwattack.php
An almost solid list, but WTF!!! No Dungeons & Dragons or X-Men Arcade? Instead they put a SNES Batman game in the list?

jim and i were playing TMNT on Wed and atalked about x-men... he was saying today that game dosn't hold up as good as it use to, though I have yet to check for myself.

my complaint was that The Punisher wasn't on there... solid 2 player beat-em-up.

I think it holds up fine, especially the 6-Player version. They have one in Boomers, Dania. But why put Dazzler in the game? Nobody wanted to use her? I remember there was always a fight to see who would use Wolverine. Good thing I was a Nightcrawler guy. NOTHING MOVES THE BLOB!!!

And I forgot about Aliens vs Predator. That's another great beat-em-up. Again everyone wanted to use the Predators, nobody wanted the humans.

yeah, back in the day the Dazzler always confused me... I always had wished they at least switched her out with Jubilee... but nowadays I just wish it was Deadpool :)

No Punisher in the beat em up top 10 kinda sucks. It's one of the last great arcade beat em ups.

New avatar. the difference could save your life.

At first I didn't get the avatar... now... it's appreciated.

Anyway, the best beat em up of all time is Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. Unquestionable.

Good luck at the FFA Ranbat...

Is this your first time playing against Tekken regulars?

I know most of the guys there, and I know most of them are pretty good... good luck!

yeah, i got some tips.

don't get frustrated or worry too much about whether you win or lose. i went to an ffa ranbat like a year ago. just play your best.

when i went, i lost my first round by a sliver of health and a big execution error. i lost so much confidence that i played like trash in the double elim round and got peaced out by someone who my friend (rickstah) called "the biggest scrub at ffa."

conversely, don't get too cocky either. one time when i was in SD, i used to practice with this guy and i used to beat him pretty easily, getting double digit win streaks on him. when a double elim tournament came up and i drew him in losers, i thought it was an easy win and i was up with only one round to go. then he came back and beat me to knock me out of the tourney.

strangely, in my first match of that tournament against someone i thought was better than me, i got perfected 4 times in a row to start off, but i was still able to take the second game and make at least something out of the third game.

maybe i'm just too random. or i have terrible defense. according to vf quest mode, i have a 10-20% success rate at blocking lows. =P
yeah, back in the day the Dazzler always confused me... I always had wished they at least switched her out with Jubilee... but nowadays I just wish it was Deadpool :)
You're kidding right? Dazzler wasn't that bad. The reason the game had that lineup is I assume the USA network version of "X-Men" was showing at that time on TV or shortly before. You'd remember it because they gave Wolverine an AWFUL Aussie accent.

Yeah, that was a pilot episode. I'm pretty sure it was done by TOEI so it had alittle anime feel to it.

Appossum - I've seen your avatar on wiki. Nice one. :)

I don't know how you big MK fans do it.

So I realized today I had never beat UMK3 on Xbox Live. Don't know if I ever will

Shao Kahn is so hard it's silly. My Xbox controller almost flew out the window.on'

Use Sub-Zero (non-ninja) and freeze him, walk up to him, uppercut him, and then immediately shoot the ice (d, f+lp) again. 90% of the time you'll either refreeze him as he is getting up, or he'll go for his Anti-Air shoulder charge move, in which case you simply HP him on his way down, shoot an ice to catch him in the air, and then uppercut. Rinse and repeat.

that was the only way I could do it...

Thanks JimFoley. I was able to beat him using that exact technique.

On an unrelated note, I almost got the "Perfect World Champion" achievement on SFII. In the end I didn't lose a round to anyone...but Dhalsim. I was messing around in the first round and he beat me.

Rolento, thanks for reminding us all that Fatal Fury is coming out for XBL. It's been so long since we heard anything I seriously forgot.

If Fatal Fury Special has online play, I might get it... just because I need more opportunities to talk trash. However, it's still pretty useless to me now that I have the Real Bout collection. Real Bout 2 = win.
omg~!!! I totally forgot I gotta Tekken tournament tomorrow!!!

any tips to prevent me from losing in the first round???
Car issues...I can't make it

Good luck though. Best tip is to hope you don't get matched up against one of the really good players.

Second best tip is to not worry, and just do what you do. Don't ever let yourself freeze or let your mind blank out; always have a fall-back strategy no matter how cheesy it is.

Third best tip is to get paired with Rickstah, then tell him B:L says hi before proceeding to scrub him to death.

EVO2007 World Finals location has been announced....

Green Valley Ranch Resort & Casino in Henderson, NV.

EVO2005 was held here... while it is not as beautiful as last year's Red Rock Hotel & Casino.... it is still an excellent venue with a bomb ass buffet.

Book with Southwest next week! While it's still cheap/available!

Happy St. Patty's Day to all. Have one on me:

^^ Victory for Blanka!!!, He never worry bout wearing green on St. Patty's Day

Happy st. patrick's day! I don't know why because I'm not irish, but fuck it, lets get drunk! the usual weekend iraq war protests and drum circles here in Madison are starting to give way to drunk people dressed in green. woo!

and if any of you guys are online with the PS3, send me an invite: mames. i've played resistance online once and it was amazingly lag free. I don't know what they did, but it's perfect, even on my shit connection.

damn, tournament got postponed (or permanently rescheduled from the hereafter) 2 hours.

now I'm jus chillin w/ nothing to do~!

it's to noisy to read, and I'm too lazy to play games / practice.

anyway here are sum 3S japanese matches from january; featuring Daigo beasting comebacks, top tier Alex play, and another hilarious yet annoying announcer!!

http://www.godweapon.net/comboVids/gamePlayer.php?id=428

Alex useta be my guy!! but I cant do much with him and lose a lot...

now I jus use necro, I've gotten a lot more comfortable with him and he runs shit major~!!

B:L>> is your 3rd tip suppose to be some kinda intimidation method to psyche that guy out?? haha

edit: u kno what, I dont think I ever even entered a 3S tourney before either...

only GGXX and cvs2. I guess I'll throw away an extra $5 today jus to say I have

Just picked up Marvel vs Street Fighter for the Saturn. Got any tips? Wolverine is a beast in the game like he is in X-Men: COTA and XvSF.

boooooooooooooooo~!!!!!

I'm comin at yall w/ my report of yesterday,

boooooooooooooooo~!!!!!

first of all, I wasnt even planning on entering 3S. But to waste my time I played a few matches, and won enough times to garner the confidence to burn a good $5 just for the sake of burning $5. But I hella messed up during the real matches! ugh I was playing rather predictably, I forgot to read my opponent, and I completely effed up my offensive wake-up game. In retrospect, I coulda had an extra $5 in my wallet rite now...

but Tekken tho... man Tekken is hella bizarre. I cant believe every dude there brought a controller with them, wtf!! Everybody is playing on a pad, and it's their own pad~!!! Everyone brought their own dual shock pad (except one guy who had a psx pad shaped like a saturn pad) It's hella creepy, not only the fact that everyone has a pad, but also the fact that it has to be their pad as if they couldnt just bring 2 and share. About 4 doodz had joysticks tho, as if the arcade machine didnt already have joysticks on it. I asked some guy and he said it was becoz his stick is more comfortable, whatever...

anyway it was my 1st time playing against a human ever. I got beat pretty hard coz I like to rush in, but Tekken seems to be a pokey game. All my attacks got frame-advantaged. I got quite used to moving around tho, but since I played only on psp my execution was hella off. Like, I would hit my opponent with a combo but I wouldnt finish it, I need to improve that.

but good experience~!! it's going down again a week from now (3/24) and I saw sum guy I kno while I was there too. I dont wanna drive so hopefully he can give me a ride coz he live in my hometown!

There's nothing bizarre about that at all... wouldn't it be best to play what you're comfortable on? This has been going on since Tekken 5.0 came out in late 2005.

More often than not, the sticks/buttons on the machines are either broken or suck ass.... poor Japanese Sanwa parts aren't as sturdy as the mountain men of Happ parts that you usually find in American cabinets.

Down South a bit more in San Diego we have a good balance of both pad/stick players... I'd say about 60/40 stick... ratio wise...
Just picked up Marvel vs Street Fighter for the Saturn. Got any tips? Wolverine is a beast in the game like he is in X-Men: COTA and XvSF.
Not really. Many of those characters play like their X-Men Vs. Street Fighter and Marvel Super Heroes versions. I really like playing as Shadow, since Charlie was one of my favorite characters from X-Men Vs. Street Fighter. Shadow has a little lag when using any super moves, but his speed with corner/air combos makes up for it.

Wolverine is still crazy in that game. It wasn't until Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, where they decided to finally slow him down.

If I remember right that game (MVSF) is still pretty broken, so most of the characters have infinites.

Thanks for the tourney report Jekki. I'm always interested in hearing others talk about their fighting game tournament experiences.
There's nothing bizarre about that at all... wouldn't it be best to play what you're comfortable on? This has been going on since Tekken 5.0 came out in late 2005.
the reason I find it weird is becoz when I go to an arcade, I want to play arcade games on arcade machines. You dont tell your friend "hey man let's go to the arcade" only to have him reply "ah cool jus drop by my pad first so I can pick up my psx controller"

if every1 is going to carry a pad, why hold a tournament at an arcade? bring the fire hazard into someone's garage instead.

but I aint trying to criticize the community or anything. In the end I'm really nothing more than a scrub ass noob in regards to Tekken. I say these things from the perspective as an outsider to the scene.

Yeah, I get your perspective, you got it spot on... it probably does look odd to someone that isn't accustomed to it. But it's been that way for awhile now. :)

People can play at their best... And that's one of the reasons why the arcade scene for DR is staying strong(although no where near as strong as the old, old, olden days)...

Glad you got exposed to it...

my modern korean film professor's grading scale:

S+
S
S-

people still ask him what "S" means and he still doesn't give a straight answer.

so my question-- what does the "S" in S-rank mean in games?

I think it stands for Super. Though really, it could also be representative of AZN's lack of command of the English language and alphabet.
most underrated capcom 2d fighter...
Word. Everyone needs to import the Darkstalkers collection. It's the reason I decided to flip-top my PS2.

I remember that Darkstalkers TV show. The first time I saw it I was in the hospital for over two weeks for Pneumonia. I woke up randomly in the middle of the night and it was on. It was an episode where Sasquatch was talking to a group of penguins out in the arctic. I remember everyone I tried talking to about it thought I was crazy.

Yeah, Darkstalkers the game is surprisingly good. Darkstalkres the animated series is surprisingly bad. I'd expect it to be horrible, but it surpassed my expectations 10-fold.

I used to love the first Darkstalkers, and then as the series went on I fell less in love with it. The characters are too silly for me, especially when they're playing off all the old horror monsters. I would've liked it to be more dark and moody.

the Anime version wasn't that bad IMHO... the American one um...

vampire savior on the sega saturn with the ram cart was the shit.

and today I bought me some mdf ($25 for TOO MUCH of it) and constructed another joystick box~! Just the 4 walls tho, glued together and currently drying. My goal is to make this one really nice. Tomorrow I'll sand, putty, sand, putty it til I'm satisfied, then buy sum 'primer' and spray paint to finish it off!! All I'd need to do after that is make the top / bottom panels & buy some buttons / stick.

oh, and Markman or kainzero, how do u escape throws in Tekken?? I kno u push the punch button that corresponds to the throw your opponent (which I have absolutely no idea how the timing works), but I saw A LOT of ppl succeeding at throw escapes. during the tourney. I wonder if there's a trick to it, or if they are just extremely good and lucky at guessing
There's nothing bizarre about that at all...
The only thing that would count as possibly bizarre is that it's an SBO Qualifier event, and SBO doesn't let you use your own stick. :cold:

But yeah, it's definately more prudent to bring your own controls if it's allowed, because you'd rather not rely on what they have at hand.

if god of war was a fighting game, it would be the most frustrating experience ever.

Guys, do you realize that FOTNS comes out on the 29th? Does anyone have it preordered?

I, obviously, do... preordered this along with DJ Max Portable 2.

Is it any good? I didn't do any research on it. I'll be ariving in Japan the day it comes out.

It's supposed to be fantastic. There's some minor balance issues with a couple characters, but there's still a ton of people putting up match videos for the game and there has been for well over a year now... so it must be something special regardless.
They should rename it to Toki Land 20XX...
WTF? Most random statement of the day. Respect.

Anyway, from what I've heard, the game isn't any more broken than NGBC at the absolute worst. So it's not really too bad at all. It won't be the next Guilty Gear in terms of competitive play, but it's still a damn good game.
