Super Mario Galaxy - Gen. Discussion & Info.
I actually found myself laughing while playing this game because the little child in me is still alive.
See Scorch. That's the reaction you you should have had.

That and and some drool rolling down the side of your lip. Because we know that's how you roll.
I think what has been said from the jump is that the coins will actually ship WITH Galaxy, so we probably won't see those in stock 'til zero hour at launch.
You are correct, sir...or ma'am. The notice at TRU was that "due to a shipping error", the coins would be available when you pick up SMG. So yeah, more waiting...I should actually try the demo at some point. I mean, I don't live that far from a GS...
Is the "Demo at GS" a disc they hand out with preorders or a just playable on their Wii demo systems?
Just on their systems.

Fantastic Mario Galaxy Interview!

Correct. I look at this as if I had borrowed a vegetable garden from Miyamoto-san. It was as if I had asked him, "Please let me borrow your ‘secret garden’. I promise I will produce great things from it", and then started sowing the seeds with my staff members. Once we’d cooked the dish with the harvested crops, we decided to have Miyamoto-san be the first one to taste it. He is the owner of the garden, after all. We sent every plate to Kyoto for him to sample, and he gave us comments back like "This is a little too hot", or "This part tastes better now". Towards the end of development, we had him come and visit our "restaurant" in Tokyo. While he was here, we had him sample an unbelievable number of dishes. We had him eat until he was very full.
03.jpg

That definitely happened. However, when it did happen, he would clearly explain to me why his suggestions were better, and at times, he would understand my point of view and we decided to go with what I was saying. Come to think of it, there was a time a while ago when I just wouldn’t budge no matter what, and I finally gave in when he said to me, "Just trust an old man’s experience!".
"Please let me borrow your ‘secret garden’. I promise I will produce great things from it"
Shit, I used to use that line at bars.

EDIT: fucking child support.

Luigi is in the game! To play as him, you need 120 stars. After you do this, go to fight Bowser again and beat him. After the credits roll, you can play as Luigi. Luigi is harder to play as because he is a bit faster and can jump a bit higher, but he is much harder to control as he doesn't stop as quickly as Mario.

I bet you couldn't tell the difference between her "before she got pregnant" and "after she got pregnant" pictures... could you? ;)
Are the coins available yet? I called my local Gamestop a few days ago and they hadn't seen them yet.
I'm pretty sure an in-store sign said the coins would be available on the 14th -- after the game's release. Pretty crappy if that happens.
I'm fairly positive that I'm the only one that tried the demo and hated it.
I know someone who didn't like it. But he didn't like OOT until just last fall either.

I haven't played the demo and don't intend to. When I have the game at home, I am expecting to feel the happiness of 1996 when I first played Mario 64 in TRU a few weeks before release.
Pancakerabbit didn't like it either - his review of it consisted of ":baby:"

Hm? What's that?

No, Zen, I will not unleash the Dark Templar. No. No.
But the Dark Templar is the only reason this thread exists!

Is that supposed to be the table of Disney Elements?

I was an original galaxy hater (small worlds, etc.). I have to admit that I was completely wrong. This game looks absolutely amazing. I am counting down the days for this and I haven't done that for a game in a long, long time.

@ BIG5
who would you is the worst nintendo character? then .

The worst nintendo character goes to Birdo.

In Birdo's biography of the Super Mario Bros. 2 instruction booklet, it reads "He thinks he's a girl and he spits eggs from his mouth. He'd rather be called Birdetta." [10] Contrary to popular belief, this is not the result of a poor translation. In Japan, Catherine was always male, despite the feminine name. Nintendo of America later censored Birdo to female to avoid potential controversy. Recently, in the Mario Strikers Charged official website, Birdo is again referred to as "he". [11] Despite this, many gamers categorize Birdo as the first full Male to Female transsexual in the video game universe. [12]

So are you saying Birdo is bad because he's a transsexual, or because Nintendo denies it? I could care less if Birdo wants to wear a bow on his head.

Tingle is kind of creepy, so I actually enjoy him a bit.

Is Bowser Jr. simply a replacement so they don't have to deal with the original seven kids? Just a consolidation? What happened to Bowser's other kids? Did they move away from home?

Hmm... Galaxy opened to 130k first day sales in Japan. It should be able to keep selling through the weekend and beat sales of Sunshine (280k), would be disappointing otherwise.
At the risk of some unfortunate Lilboo jokes, I'm going to say that I like Birdo. It was a great boss in Mario RPG, and its many appearances in Mario 2 give my brother and I some great "Man, what the fuck?" reminiscences.

fuck Waluigi.
QFT, I thought Birdo was a decent boss, better than some of those dumbfucks from Super Mario World where you only had to jump on their heads. And the Wario brothers can go fuck themselves, talk about some of the most unoriginal characters ever ....

If I preorder from Gamestop online, will I get the coin? There's no mention of it.

I'm stupid and am just looking for a place online to preorder to get the coin and have been behind with this...
Wario seems to have come into his own. Waluigi is still worthless.
Not true: Waluigi is one of the best, if not THE best character in Super Mario Strikers.

I finally had a change to play the Super Mario Galaxy demo last night.

I don't own a Wii, or use the Wiimote/nunchuck often, but within a few seconds, I was already intuitively pulling off the backwards flip and long jump. Mario's 'whoo hoo' and 'wha haaa' exclamations have been appropriately updated.

The 'spinning on a bending stem until it launches you' move was used to great effect in DK Jungle Beat. Not at all surprised the same developers resurrected that move for Galaxy.

There is something remarkable about how the copious use of spherical platforms makes the need for constant camera adjustment unnecessary. I have yet to see if it becomes a problem on some of the vaster play fields.

I enjoyed the hell out of the demo. I can't believe that game will be out in less than two weeks.

Believe the hype.

Im getting excited, its beena while now since I played the Wii, Last game was Corruption but I have a feeling I'll like this even more.

Have you played Power Pros or Zack and Wiki? Then you are missing out. Enough with the "I haven't played the Wii in awhile". It gets old, and if you haven't played the Wii in awhile, you shouldn't be playing video games because there have been some serious releases lately and it's only going to be getting better.

Frustration about typical Wii comments vented.

Go to Metacritic.com

6 of the last 9 are green lighted (including Mario Galaxy which everyone knows will be a green). Simpsons might be also (2 greens, 1 yellow so far), not sure though. Quit making excuses for not playing it and get out there and play the great games that are available. If Simpsons stays green, which it is so far, that is 7 out of 9 green lights. The stupid comments get old. Not everything popular is bad or worthless.

Seriously. Now the frustration is vented.

Played the demo as well, but I disagree about the camera. It could be that I've just been playing too many first person games recently, but the lack of camera control bothered me. The controls didn't leave me with that great of an impression either, it felt easy to pick up but also like it will be more difficult to do more complex platform puzzles. I can't imagine even doing the red coin levels from Sunshine with these controls.

The spherical worlds are great though since it looks like they put a lot of thought into the level design. Should be worth playing just to see the levels they come up with.

You may be right about that. Since the New Egg galaxy consists of lots of small spherical/conical platforms, it doesn't really give us an idea of what to expect from the increasingly complex platforming that happens later.

In the hub area, was able to adjust the camera manually by pressing left and right on the Wiimote's directional pad, fyi.

From the product page:
the forums on Amazon are all a blaze with misifnormation, including Nintendo saying they're seeking a resolution with Amazon to see if they will be participating in the promotion.

Weird. I'll probably just order from them and hope for the best.

1-UP:
In short, Galaxy is one of the most impressive, engrossing games in recent memory -- and quite the contrast to the rest of this year's triple-A gaming crop, which tends toward the dark, the M-rated, and the first-person perspective. Gaming may be growing up (per se), but gamers will always appreciate beautifully polished gameplay and inventive design...even if it's sugarcoated with squeaky baby stars and a goofy cartoon of a hero. Galaxy proves that Mario matters just as much today as he did 25 years ago, and that makes him one of a kind in this medium. But don't play Galaxy simply because Mario is the timeless godfather of gaming. No, play Galaxy because it's fantastic.
So Basically Super Mario Galaxy < VF5. Not buying.
Dammit, I was trying to remember what 1up had just 10'd. Too late.
These reviews are not helping me be patient.
I'm getting more and more nervous that I won't get my Wii back from NoA repairs in time for it.

Hmm, I wonder how long would it take me to beat Sunshine... I've beaten it on at least four separate occasions.

I have been trying to be nicer and less aggressive/combative on CAG lately but posts like this make it hard.

Who the fuck are you to be telling me how to game or that "if you haven't played the Wii in awhile, you shouldn't be playing video games"!? I just beat corruption about a month ago, and have been playing through Bioshock twice and Halo 3 on the 360 with some Madden 08 mixed in. Regardless of your opinions about these games, pretty much all of them are widely renowned as some of the best there are right now and Corruption was the only one even avail on the Wii. If you're going to tell me I shoudl have gotten Madden 08 on the Wii instead of the 360 just save your breath and STFU.

Additionally, I've already played and beat Twilight Princess, Corruption, COD3, Red Steel, half of Super Paper Mario and play wii play/wii sports every once in a while w/ company so its not like I never use it, there has just been a lull for my Wii gaming lately.

I'm not trying to rag on Nintendo or even claim the nasty M is better than the beloved N, and my original post touted my anticipation of Galaxy as opposed to complaining about a dearth of quality Wii titles.

Vent your frustration on somebody else who may give a shit about how you think they should game.

Calm down. You said you haven't played the Wii in awhile, I said 6 or 7 of the last 9 are green lights. You are missing good games by not having played in awhile.

If you aren't one who insists that no good games are on the Wii, sorry, but that type of post is quite prevalent. No harm meant.
