Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info

I would say that Lucario was a fair trade for Mewtwo. Some people may complain, but, if you think about it, Mewtwo was from the first batch of the Pokemon series and isn't heard of much now since all the movies, series, etc. So now they need a new "cool" pkmn to come in. Enter Lucario.
Any 24 hour Wal-Marts in your area? If it's midnite, they have to sell it to you. Even if it's still locked up in the backroom and not out on display, a game this big will DEF be in stock and you can bitch/complain until you make a manager go get it :)
I'm going to see if any stores are doing midnite releases. Any words on if stores will be doing this?
Technically, if it's not on the sales floor, they *don't* have to sell it to you. Granted, they probably will if you ask nicely... Most stores will probably have it out around midnight.

GameCrazy shut off preorders for the first allocation.. you can still preorder it but you aren't guaranteed to have a copy on launch day. The employees will still probably say you're guaranteed one on launch day, but they've already placed orders for however many preorders each store has.

I really like todays update I've been hoping for Lucarioto be in brawl since I learned about the game and I'm glad he's in it and from videos and pictures I've seen he looks like he'd be fun to use.

Here's my main list so far though it'll probably be changed once I played the game. 1.Zelda/Sheik(My main in Melee)
2.Lucario My favorite poke'mon from D/P and he looks pretty fun to use.
3.Pokemon Trainer(Very interesting fighter I'd like to use him in fights with friends)
4.Pit(he seems pretty fun to use)

I'm torn on who to use.

On the one hand, there are Ike and Marth. Being the FE fanboy that I am, they are the natural choices. Plus, long reach, disjointed hitboxes, and in Marth's case, heavy damage on the tip of his sword. Ike is particularly tempting due to how fucking awesome he got towards the end of FE10 (Paraphrased: "Yeah, I know I'm gonna lose, but fuck you. 1000 years of waging war, and our species has gotten pretty fucking good at it. So c'mon. Let's go.").

However, Fire Emblem characters tend to attract a lot of scrubs. Roy was particularly bad for that, and I bet Ike will be, too. They look "cooler" than most other characters, I guess.

That has me thinking about Dedede. He has a hammer, and a hammer is almost an axe. And axes kick ass.

But I haven't played the game, so I dunno. I'll end up with G&W for all I fucking know.

Well, I have footage of my D3 beating the shit out of someone's Ike from last week's SF Brawl tournament. Ike's friends are doing commentary, and well...knowing what I knew then, it's pretty funny how wrong they are at certain points.

Yeah, I remember you say Dedede can really take it to Ike. Something about the Waddle Dees kicking his ass.

Also, dial-up, remember? No videos.

Oh wait, he doesn't have either of those. =P
I'm still not afraid of that penguin in the slightest :)
We'll fix that when the time comes, don't you worry. :D

Nice vid! Dedede looks like he has some serious potential.

While my main in melee was Fox, I'm really looking forward to using Pit, mainly because I'm a Kid Icarus fanboy. I'll probably be using DK for the tournament.

You're insane. The only people from the starting roster that are trouble are Fox and Metaknight.

If you're not terrified of them, you havent seen what they can do yet.

I'll see you in San Jose if we can both get to Finals in this ridiculous Gamestop randomness :)

Don't feel bad. I, as well, have the bloody dial-up curse. DSL has been unavailable for years, no cable, and satellite cost alot of $$$$$$$$$. So we're just screwed.

This is why everyone hates Gamestop ...

I just called to confirm if a particular store was having the tournament/sign-ups, and the guy said you just needed to be on the sign-up list and have the game preordered at the store.

A quick look at the official rules: big, bold at the top "No purchase necessary to enter or win."

What douchebags.

Question Analog Fighting is that still in? Like how you can slightly press forward and B and thats a diff move than pressing full forward B. I know they took analog shielding out

Yes, analog tilting is still in, but it's only really noticeable with Samus (obv).

I'd say that out of the default line-up, Wario might be the weakest character. But he's still good, so...iunno.

Ike is good, but he's very slow. Like, frozen molasses slow.
This game is definately going to get runner up for game of the year.
Yay, its almost here.
Wait, so what's definitely getting GOTY?

And about today's update, the new Pokemon stage, am I the only one that's never heard of it? My brother's been showing me all kinds of spoiler-filled videos on YouTube, and we haven't come across this stage yet.

Maybe if I stay just ignorant enough there'll be more surprises in store for me.

It's because it's not "tournament legal," no doubt. It's a very fun stage, but if Palkia shows up, you quickly realize why people feel that it will not be tournament legal. The screen switches, but your controls don't. How weird is that?

Ok thanks for answering but hold up how will that work with the wiimote? There is no analog is there? Like i say im a newcomer and from playing melee i had a hard time doing combos and I think it was because i wasnt doing like A slight forward+A A for a combo or something like that. I would play as lets say mario or marth and im getting 1 or 2 hits. Am I doing something wrong? I see my friends playing they stringing up hits etc

I think with the remote there wont be any ambiguity as far as doing tilts. They either employ double tapping directions or something that involves completely different button combinations.

I feel like tilts are much easier to do now, but that might be just me.

hmm ok well ill just have to wait for my US version to come out to get mines and try to get better. Im really amped about the single player but i wanna get good enough to beat my friends. Thanks for the answers guys

I can't comment on this particular situation, but don't GameStops that open for special events only let those who pre-ordered into the store for the event... If that's the case, then, in theory, you could still enter if you haven't pre-ordered, but they wouldn't let you in the store to play... ;)

With the tilts, you are OK slamming the direction as long as you have the direction held BEFORE you hit A.

For instance, if I want to do an up tilt after a move, I slam up (and hold it) while the previous move is still being executed. Almost like buffering.

Actually, some people had reported doing actual move buffering though, but I hadnt messed with it yet. They claim they've inputted the move and not had it done until after the animation for their first move was finished.

Buffering is putting in some of the inputs of your next attack while some other attack is still going on.

So in Soul Calibur for instance, Ivy has two throws that have a whole lot of directional inputs + throw at the end. So I can do some other move, and while that is going on, I can put in all those directions and then just hit the throw button as soon as I can after the move finishes.

A tilt in smash doesnt necessarily require that you push the stick just a little. It also works if you have the direction held down BEFORE you hit A. Otherwise if you try to hit them at the same time, you get a Smash.

So what I mean by buffering a tilt is you start holding down a direction while some other move is going on, and then hitting A as soon as you can after the move is done, and you should go straight into a tilt.

o rly that explains alot thanks ill try that on melee maybe i can combo better hehe. I noticed when i was tryin to get better at melee alot of stuff i did better once i understood what was going on. I come from SF and SC and like Tekken and when i played SSBM I kept getting beat because i knew nothing of that % gauge and didnt really think it was a stragtegy more or less than just going bam i combo you you should be dead type thing

Well, with Melee they are probably running around L-canceling/wavedashing to assist them with their comboing, and all that stuff is taken out now.

Comboing in general isnt canned or I guess "guaranteed" in the sense that we used to use those terms in Soul Calibur. Its a little more freeform. Especially in Brawl, with the robust dodging and shielding system in place, its a lot harder to get successive hits in.

Ike is good, but he's very slow. Like, frozen molasses slow.
That's weird to me. He was pretty decent speed-wise for the Fire Emblem games. I suppose his recent "bulking up" is responsible for his slow SSBB speed, but it still feels out-of-place.

How are the no-flinching things with the heavy guys? What characters have that? Is it determined by how much damage is done, or or does it work for all "A" attacks? If the former, is it different for each character?

This might be a dumb question, but is it realistically too late to preorder? I just got my Wii last weekend and I won't get a chance to get to the GameStop back at college until Saturday or Sunday, when I'm back from break. I know I'm probably cutting it close, but if I can go in and realistically get a copy for the midnight launch I probably will.

Scorch said that GameCrazy's already cut off their first allotment. Anyone know if GameStop has too?

If not...then I guess I'll have to hit up Best Buy or Circuit City as soon as the doors open. :whistle2:k

Since it seems places are getting their first shipments already, I would take a wild guess and say that you're not guaranteed to get in on the first order if you pre-order anywhere at this point.

Oh fuck, the one game I don't preorder comes out the day my fucking Spring Break starts. Hmm anyone know how many copies stores like Wal-Mart be getting? I got 2 Wal-Marts near me and one could realistically have a copy if I go early enough, but if they are getting a low shipment...

Or does sites like Amazon still have copies? I am willing to spend $60+ with one day shipping to get this fucker here since I have a whole week to play it.

Does any one know what game saves give you extra stuff for brawl?
know it was talked about earlier all I remember that mario galaxy gives yeah stuff.

Just got a reply back from a friend who works at the GS I pre-ordered from. She said, and I quote:
Yeah he could still pre-order it no prob.

Keep in mind, when I asked her about Brawl last Saturday, she said the store had 220+ pre-orders in. Still, I'd ask the associate just to be sure you're guaranteed a copy.

Honestly, anyone who is worried about getting a copy needs to relax.

Think about every HUGE game that has come out in the past decade... how many of them have been hard to find? Any store like Best Buy is going to have HUNDREDS of copies, and considering that we've had reports of Wal-Mart having 4-sided stands for the game, I really have to imagine that it'll be ok.

Breathe, guys. Breathe.

I'm a little confused about the Sam's Club preorder that some of you may be able to help me with.

I went to the Sam's website and made my shopping options so I can only view 'in store pick up' items. I prepared to place my preorder but it gave me no in store pick up option just the usual shipping methods.

I'm assuming since it is a preorder under the 'in store pick up' item category I'd be able to pick up the game as soon as it is in stock.

side note: My reason for ordering online is to use the WalMart $10 gift card from the canceled Smash preorder dilemma.

Agreed.

I'm skipping the preorder stuff, and just heading to Wal-Mart around 10:30 or 11:00. My DS will keep me company while I wait for them to bring out the game.

QFT.

I mean hell, at Best Buy the other day they still had a bunch of legendary and LE Halo 3s lying around.

anybody know whether circuit city or best buy will have midnite launches like gamestop/ebgames? i want to use my gift cards and pick it up early.

Was any place sold out of Halo 3? I didn't hear of anyone having difficulty getting that game, and I can't imagine that both: a) this will sell more than Halo 3 on launch day and b) Nintendo will ship fewer copies than Halo 3.
