Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info

I pre-ordered at ebgames.com with the free overnight shipping coupon. I just noticed my card was already charged; which they usually don't do until the game ships.

I'm wondering if I'll get the game early since there is no way to get FedEx on a Sunday.
Could this game possibly beat out MGS 4 and GTA 4 for game of the year?
I doubt it.
Let's wait till the games out before we start making our GOTY picks.
I don't think they can physically sell it though. When I was working there a few years ago, I tried to buy Mario Party 5 when we got it a week early and the register would say "LOL NOPE" :whistle2:(
Wal-Mart was selling Super Mario Galaxy early they will sell this early. Since it comes out on Sunday, stores wll have it Thursday/Friday if not a bit earlier. These will get put out. I'll start heading to my Wal-Mart Wednesday at lunch to see if I can grab one.

Woo hoo, went to EB, preordered it in full. Now I finally have my copy reserved. Plus mine is doing a midnight thing so as long as my parents don't go apeshit about me driving at midnight for it, I will have it on midnight Sunday morning :D.

there were pictures taken earlier in the week... most walmarts already have a pallet full of copies sitting in the back. but it's been given a street date, unlike super mario galaxy, and the walmart computers won't even allow a sale of the game until 3/9.

so yeah... walmart is pretty much now the worst place to be looking for an early copy. you might find it, but you won't be able to buy it.
That's weird to me. He was pretty decent speed-wise for the Fire Emblem games. I suppose his recent "bulking up" is responsible for his slow SSBB speed, but it still feels out-of-place.

How are the no-flinching things with the heavy guys? What characters have that? Is it determined by how much damage is done, or or does it work for all "A" attacks? If the former, is it different for each character?
From what I was able to tell, D3, Ike, Wario, and GDorf have armor for their attacks, and not just their "A" attacks. Ike's charging "B," Wario's forward smash attack, GDorf's side "B," and D3's up "B" all have armor. Snake also has armor during his recovery, but since he's not a heavy character...yeah.
Is Circuit City still doing the thing with the $10 GC for preordering it?
They are, indeed.

I'll have to look at that picture because if that was true the ISO would be available already for download....and I don't see it anywhere.

I've seen a picture. Not sure if it was real. IIRC it was on Nintendo Wii Fanboy with NeoGAF as the source. I'm guessing there will be an early dump, but maybe the very few that have it now don't have the tools for a dump/have some morals.

this is what i'm talking about

looks legit to me. it's actually from our very own UncleBob, who works at walmart. good guy, i've done deals with him before.

but still... since they can't sell it (from a computer standpoint, not just morally), i don't understand how this would point to an early dump. unless an employee flat out stole a copy, and i don't think anyone cares enough about this game to risk their job over it like that.

The game is on a dual layered disc, its very tough to dump and mod it to work in Wiis.

Since when has Wal-Mart had a standee with 50+ copies of a $50 game out in the open? Seems very odd for Wal-Mart to do that from a LP issue.

Hope its real that means no more delay for this game...

The Walmarts around me have that for the American Gangster special edition ($30) so it seems its legit.

A $30 DVD is different then a $50 game. Ive never stand a cardboard standee house any game in the past 8-10 years at Wal-Mart or Target. Best Buy will but they have the games in locking plastic cases.

Well, for all we know those could just be empty cases that you take to the register to checkout and exchange for a real copy. Sure the same thing can be accomplished with a slip, but this is more aesthetic and will lure more customers.

The last GTA game that came out for the 360 was housed in a huge cardboard standee at Wal-Mart. No empty game cases either, at least at our store, full copies of the game. I would know because I was working at Wal-Mart in the front offices while I was in college when it came out. They were right in the aisle in front of electronics and being the CAG that I was I got the assistant manager to mark down the entire stock of the new GTA games to match another local store (I believe CircuitCity) at the time so that we'd be competitive.

Brawlcentral has the entire 600+ list of trophies up on their site, complete with pictures, descriptions, and how to unlock 'em.

I'm surprised to see how many Pikmin trophies there are compared to Metroid and Warioware, considering that the franchise is only two games deep.

I can assure you, the display is real. I tore it down myself. :)

Our store will not be using the display, but some stores will, depending on their theft issues.

It's hard to believe we only have a week until Brawl comes out. I really loved checking out the Dojo every day, hopefully more games have a site like the Dojo.

I was looking through the list and I saw a Kyle Hyde trophy. It's just his 2d artwork, but it's cool to see Hotel Dusk get some representation in Brawl, since it's one of my favorite DS games. :applause:

Hmm well starting Wednesday I'll head over to my Wal-Mart to see if anything is put out. That Wal-mart is in a terrible area, so I doubt they will be putting anything out to be stolen. Ghetto people :(

If not, I wonder who in my area will be doing a midnight launch? :whistle2:k
Also, next Sunday is Daylight Savings Time. So...that's 1 hour sooner for Brawl \\:D/... Well, sorta.

Damn, I would've wanted to take that beast home!

And boo, doesn't DST occur at 2:00 AM on Sunday morning? Brawl would already be out, and we would be losing the hour after its release (moving from 1:59 to 3:00), if I am not mistaken.

i might actually go out at midnight to get this game. sacramento gamers, keep an eye out for any stores breaking street, ill do the same. glad its coming out days after payday!

Hehe i got a call sunday morning from the GS i preordered my SSBB from comfirming that I was still going to the tourney. They told me 32 people signed up and they was only using the wiimote and the nunchuck wiimote config for the tourney and it starts at 8pm. I can't wait i thought the tourney would start around 12 am cause thats when they release it I kinda don'twanna go and loose or something and have to sit around for 4+ hours till I can leave the store with my game.

I don't own a Gamecube controller or a wavebird, nor do I have a classic controller (yet). I have no idea what I'll do as of right now, but I think I'll probably get a CC or two.
I can't decide on a controller what are you guys doing?
I'll be using a classic for now but seeing how SNK will releaseing a ton of fighters for Q4, I will be picking up the Hori Wii stick something this month.
I can't decide on a controller what are you guys doing?
Wiimote and Wiimote with nunchuck. I like the shake smash with the W/N configuration. I hate gamecub controllers and while I barrowed a CC troller from my friend I don't think ill be using that, unless i remapp the buttons. I think its kinda stupid that u have to plug the CC into the wiimote and still have a wiimote sitting there. Anywho Wiimote/Wiimote&Nunchuck
I can't decide on a controller what are you guys doing?
I have four Wavebirds.

I will probably try each of the controller options at least once, and then strictly use the Wavebird.

I only have a wired GC controller, wavebird, wiimote, and nunchuck so I'll try them all to see which I like the best and eventually I'll buy a CC for VC once I get a better internet connection.

I think the GS tournaments will be wiimote + nunchuck so if by some miracle I win the first round I'll bet practicing with that controller..

I have 4 Wavebirds all READ' TO GO! I also have 2 wired gamecube controllers .. (Maybe 3..) and of course 4 remotes/4 nunchuks and 2 classics. I will try all these options.

Man, I would have loved to tried the original Smash this week using the Wavebird :whistle2:(

Just a note, I picked up the Hori stick yesterday at Gamestop for $40 (new). It used to be $50, so I was psyched to see that it finally dropped. Check your local stores, YMMV.
I can't decide on a controller what are you guys doing?
I am buying gamecube controllers just for this game.
Is there someplace that details how the W/N config works?
I found this on the Gamespot forums:

By default:

A = Standard attacks
B = Specials
C = Jump
Z = Shield
D pad down = Shield
D pad left/right = grab
D pad up = Jump
1 = taunt
2 = taunt
1+2 = taunt

But those are just the default. You can change any of the buttons around at will. With this control method, you can also turn "Shake to Smash" on which allows you to do a smash attack by flicking left, right, or up on the Wiimote.

I've played the JAP version for several days, and ended up using the wavebird. I liked it the best. I don't think I'll be picking up the US version though as I got pretty sick of this game.

Other info just because...

The best way we found to unlock all the characters was to do vs. set to 1 life. When the match starts run and jump off the board to your death. All the characters can be unlocked by playing 400 matches (I think that was the number.). Anyways, you hit enough matches you do have to beat the new character to unlock them. Then go back to losing until you hit the next character.

How did you get sick of it so fast?

We played for three days strait for about 30 hours.

C'mon man, don't treat us like that. I think the majority of us who played Melee knew this!

Gamestop/Gamecrazy occasionally has GC extension cords in their used accessory section for like 1.99 or 2.99 (something like that).

I imagine Ebay/Amazon have them for similar prices.

I'm up to about 250 hours played on my copy since Feb 1. Worth every penny, especially since I can get most of that money back if I sell it, and I can probably win a copy of the U.S. version somewhere.

Sorry, I never played any of the others. This one was my first so it was new to me.

EDIT: DMK, you fucking scare me, man.
