Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info

I'm gonna call it a night, and find out what's up with my internet connection, because now my entire connection is running like garbage.

I haven't played much yet and was never good at SSBM. I really have no idea what I'm doing. I press buttons and stuff happens but I can never make it do what I want except move in the general direction I intend to move ;).

My boys are playing the crap out of the Adventure mode or whatever it is called. I also showed them the stage builder tool. I have a feeling that will keep them occupied for many hours.
 
I played my roomate and the lag was playable, but of course it wasn't nearly as good as having him come over my room to play. I also played liboo and it was playable, but there was like a 1 second lag when I do any inputs. I'm sure it'll get better though.
 
I played online with my Brother-in-Law last night and it worked beautifully -- except for the part where he kept kicking my ass.
 
So I have an SD card for my camera but never needed to use it for the Wii until now. I want to download some stages from IGN's new website. I've got a Macbook so no built in SD reader. Anyone know where I can get a cheap one?

I love Sudden Death. I think I've played it three times, and everytime I blasted my friend off the stage in under 3 seconds.

Apparently everyone has to allow it undeneath on option somewhere(I don't know where because I haven't done it either). I too would like to watch some CAG matches instead of playing all the time and placing bets on who might win.

Newegg.com. It looks like you can get one for close to $10 after shipping. Personally, I want to get this one since it includes micro and mini adapters, but it's a little bit more.

Online seems to be borked for quite a few of us. I haven't seen options once. I'm going to try calling Nintendo today and see if I can get an answer on why it isn't showing up for some people, and I'm sure a fix will be given in time. Apparently, a short term fix is to delete your save, but I don't think its worth it since you lose your friend code, in addition to any friends you've entered, and you're only missing out on spectator mode and stage/replay/screenshot of the day.

Are you guys able to play random matches? I can't ever seem to find any opponents - it always says seeking until I error out about 15 minutes later.

What do I need to tweak in my wireless settings to fix this? Thanks

Same here--never connects.
 
No one can play random matches.
It only worked the first night for me, few hours after midnight launch.

And it was pretty lag free too. :(


Nintendo just needs to fix the 'with anyone', I'm sure they're working hard on the server firepower right now.

Same here, I only had a few hours testing it after the midnight launch. I've had plenty to keep me busy. Though I actually need to play online less and actually get to work on unlocking more characters.

This game is addictive. I've stayed up far too late the past few nights. Thank god I'm off work and my only class is online :)

I have been playing online games way to much I have only unlocked about 5 people. I have been staying up way to late playign it also the past 2 days combined I have gotten less than 10 hours of sleep. And I still have to go to work I am almost a drooling zombie at this point :drool: I realy should sleep but teh game is just way to much fun :D
 
The game is ridiculous amounts of fun. My wife fell asleep for I have no idea how long last night while I played SSE. I really want to beat that so I can finish unlocking all the characters.

Anyone already have Toon Link unlocked? If so, how does he play?

i'm getting a little tired of snake. both with the friends i play with, and the online i was able to play late last night, somebody is always snake. and sometimes online, it was me and 2 snakes.

all these explosions everywhere all the time, and that super smash is rough.

His final smash is pretty annoying, even to use. Completely ruins the flow of the match.
on that note, a lot of the final smashes are annoying like that. I like the ones that take some precision and timing to use. Automatic "kill everybody" smashes are awful.

I must admit that Pikachus Super Sayjin Level 7 Final Smash is pretty annoying.
 
I've only ever played maybe a match or two of any of the other SSB games combined and this is the first one I've owned, so I don't know what the hell's going on on-screen. Anyway, for those that have played through the SSE, would a complete novice like me have a hard time getting through it even on Normal? Right now, I just feel like I'm mashing buttons and I'm only getting a small amount of coins (or whatever the reward is) at the end in Easy.
 
Since I'm stuck at work, someone investigate this for me (maybe the manual says something?):

If you are playing a friend match, but you don't have one of the people registered (i.e. it's you, a friend, and the friend's friend), it has a button that asks you to register the person. Does this add them to your list automatically? Send a request to the person you're adding to allow you to do so? Inquiring minds must know, since I haven't seen it myself.
 
Wait you don't like the Smash Balls? I think they add another whole level to the game. I mean yeah it sucks if you are winning and they get a smash off, but in the end who cares? It's just one more thing that the game has created to make it a little more fun.

I really like snake, but I don't play with him all the time because I like to vary who I am.

Yeah you hit it to register and the friend of a friend has to agree and then I think it gets added. It's a cool concept, but I haven't tried it out yet.

Wow, a good online feature! That would have been useful in some DS games.
 
Question, can you load custom created stages directly from a SD card or does it have to be directly from the Wii. I ask this because my Wii has no space left and that IGN site has some pretty cool levels that I want to try.

It's taking away the fun, that's why I don't like them. It takes you out of the match+cheaply kills you--is there a worse crime to commit in fighting game design? There are some good ones--Link, Ike, mario, samus, kirby--these all require good timing and aren't retarded.
on the same note, the assist trophy that scrolls the camera off the stage is incredibly annoying.
 
I think Snake's smash should only 5 grenade launches, not 10 (i mean he friggen reloads!) I do see what you are saying with skill vs. nonsense. I just dodged Lucario(the pokemon guy) final smash, that was pretty intense.

I tried out 3 of IGN's maps today. I put them on my SD card and then started up Smash, I didn't have to transfer anything over the the Wii's memory. So I'm thinking it just reads the maps right off of the SD card. If it does transfer them over to the Wii they are so small they don't even tell you about it. The maps are incredibly small, I don't think space is going to be an issue.
