I'm going to give Pokemon Trainer the "FAVORITE NEW CHARACTER~!!11" because.. well, he is awesome. Playing as 3 pokemon is pretty fun. Each having their own weight class and abilities just makes him really versatile. So,
Oh come on. The last one came out....what, 7 years ago?

You couldn't have picked a worse way to describe the game.
The time that passes between releases matters when comparing gameplay similarity? I'm confused...

Great matches GW, Mr. Beef and the other guy who was in there.
I think me and GW are about at the same level.
I just hate suicides. :bomb:
Sorry I quit GW, I had to go get something to eat. :]

Will get on in a short while.

No. Calling it EA implies that it's something that comes out with minimal upgrades every year.

It doesn't apply to Brawl. Madden just tweaks some stats and maybe changes a few mechanics.

Brawl pretty much took everything back to school. Every single animation is redone and is character specific (such as different Home Run Bat swing animations). A ton of new stages alongside a stage builder, to say nothing of the ability to share and trade user-made maps. Adding...what, at least 10 brand new characters? Updating old characters with some changed abilities, updated stats (primarily weight ratios), and overall making everyone much more comparable (i.e., the tiers of Melee aren't going to be nearly as drastic in Brawl). Online mode added. The ability to record brawls as movies. New items. Assist Trophies. Final Smashes. A soundtrack that could be used for 4-5 games easily.

The list goes on and on.

The only argument worse than "It's not Melee" is the "oh it's just Melee 1.1."

The only reason I'm doing this survey is because I need a break from Brawl online....for now.

Least fav new character/Why?
- Easily King Dedede as my favorite new guy. His hammer is just too good, and he's an excellent counter-pick to dash-happy Ikes. Least favorite has to be...ROB. He just felt like he was kinda forced on everyone, you know? In MKDS, it was cute. In Brawl? Not so much.

Fav new stage/Why?
Leas fav new stage/WHY?!
- Halberd, hands down, for favorite. The music (like, all 8 or whatever) for the level is amazing. AMAZING. Plus, it looks beautiful. Worst stage? New Pork City. It's fun if you have 4 people playing with items on high, but I rarely do that with my friends, let alone online. Totally dwarfs Hyrule Temple. Plus, the music there...not a fan.

Favorite Final Smash?
LEAST favorite final smash?
- Kirby's cook power is a bit overpowered, but it's my favorite. Being able to turn items into better items is always a good thing. Plus, if I wanna be a dick, I can fly underneath the level, use Cook, and kill people instantly. Oh yes, I HAVE done it before. but I won't do it to a CAG. :grouphug:
Least fav has to be Ness' FS. Sure, it hits harder than Lucas' does, but have you SEEN Ness use his? It can't even hit anyone! UGH.
Is the best argument some of you people can think up "it's not Melee" ?

I mean seriously. I ate an apple today and complained it wasn't a grapefruit.
I like Brawl because it's not Melee. It's different enough to offer a fresh new flavor of game play. In fact, if it were too similar to Melee I would be slightly upset for shelling out $45 for a new skin on an "old" game. If I wanted to play Melee, I would go play Melee.
Whats a good place for custom firmware ? I think i have a WRT54G sitting around
Try WrtRouters.com. Just be sure you have the right version (

Yeah, I can see all that and I don't particularly disagree with it either. They certainly added a lot, but I just can't help but think it feels very similar. Perhaps it's because there are so very few other "platform fighters" (or whatever niche this game fills) that there really can't be a huge change in gameplay that makes the core mechanics feel new. I will admit this is all very psychological and like I prefaced in my earlier post - just my opinion. The one thing I never said is that the game is bad. Hell, even if it were Melee 1.1, it would still be a good game. I don't know why I was expecting more though and thus feel underwhelmed.

The only other thing I would like to add is that snake is a cheap bastard and dodging his broken-ass final smash brings me such a satisfying feeling of moral victory. fucker.

My friend was bragging all yesterday about how Snake is the best and so on and I did a one versus one against him as snake and me as Lucario and beat him. Later on in the night it happened again(me Lucario and him Snake) but I was on the ropes and he got the final smash and I managed to dodge and survive most of his smash attacks on the shadow moses level and pulled out a win. :)

I don't remember any links off-hand, but be aware that some of the versions of the WRT54G get the shaft on custom firmware (some don't support the good stuff).

Finished SSE today (Very Hard difficulty). All of the characters are now unlocked. I believe I have 97% finished, and should 100% later tonight.

Fav new character/Why?
There is way too many, because I like playing as most of them: Sonic, Snake, Wolf, P.Trainer, etc. etc.
Least fav new character/Why?
Wario. I never really liked him as a character in the first place, and that holds.

Fav new stage/Why?
Again, hard for me to say, because I like alot of them.
Least fav new stage/WHY?!
Rumble Falls or Mario Bros. Unfortunately, they have some good music, but I hate their stages.

Favorite Final Smash?
Super Sonic, Great Aether, and Critical Hit, just to name a few. Oh, and don't forget, LAAANDOMASTURA
LEAST favorite final smash?
Probably DK's. Not really that great.

Friend code coming soon. I gots onlines, so it's gonna be great.

35 total.
I'm at the maze. I have around 73 percent beat. So where is sonic?
Right after you finish the maze.
Finally got a bunch of WFC matches going with random d00ds. It's kind of hard to do anything requiring good timing since there is a small amount of lag. One guy just kept spamming Charizard fire which seems to do a ton of damage. I assume there is some fast way to get out of it, but I tried hammering on buttons and my guy would just hang out getting toasted in mid air.
To get out of it you gotta use something called Directional Impact, or DI for short.

When you get hit, hold down the direction you want your character to go, and he'll go there. You can also use a "smash" type movement on the analog stick and your character will move even farther. It was in Melee but it's a lot more essential here; with good reactions it's possible to escape Zelda's Fsmash and Usmash.
Oh there are certainly changes in that regard as well as generally deeper options, unlocks, modes, etc. BUT what I was getting at is that the game doesn't really do anything remotely different from Melee. Like...at all. For me, the game seriously feels like an EA Madden-esque upgrade with some cheesey adventure mode tacked on. I suppose you could say I'm a bit underwhelmed
If you're a casual player then yes, it would feel the same. Same old chaos, items dominating, a lot of randomness, etc.
As a 1v1 / no item player, it feels totally different. Small tweaks to a core system can change the gameplay completely; see Guilty Gear XX series and SF2 for that matter.
So in Brawl, they changed a lot. It is much harder to get KOs at < 100% since most attacks knock you upward instead of away, making it less edge-guard centered. Loss of wavedashing and dashdancing make approaching a lot harder. It's easier to grab ledges now. It's harder to combo, especially off throws. DI is improved and there is less of an auto effect, making it easier to rack up damage on jabs against people that can't DI. More characters have critical hits, and some have been toned down (MARTH! =P) New physics mean different hitboxes and priorities. Power shielding (using shield JUST before an attack comes) is a lot easier and leads to a lot of mindgames.

So there are a lot of changes in the 1v1 game that may not manifest themselves completely in a chaotic, items on, FFA-type game.

He comes in at the final boss, you unlock him once you beat the final boss

Ahh ok....so i know who i have left. I thought
master hand was a playable character.

Trying to unlock my final 2 characters (Star Wolf/Toon Link) is getting annoying.

I wish I could just unlock them already so I can REALLY start enjoying the game :)

I know what you mean....i think.
I beat toon link and wolf on the first try. but jigglypuff pisses me off. Because it takes a while to actually get to her. Then once i do i always lose, even on easy. I dont know why im having such a hard time with her. I eventually stop trying because i get sick of going through the level over and over.

just a question for some cags because i have a buddy coming over later. can we both play online against 2 other people? and if so, how do you set that up? i tried to do it yesterday and couldnt figure it out, but i thought it was possible, maybe i was confused.

Just make sure that player 2 hits start or whatever while you're on the character select screen, and you should be fine. If there's already 4 people, however, don't count on it, obv.

you have to set up your own room. the second player hits start on the controller.
People have to take breaks SOMETIME, boo. I did to get something to eat, and I never looked back.
This is true :) I still haven't signed back in yet.

Yes. You can go online with 2 other people (so the 3 of you can go online and vs someone). It HAS to be friends only though. (I think)

You have to start a room. At the selection screen just press start on player 2 (and 3) and that's it!

right, the start button, of course. we just have hit every button except that. vm? beef? did you guys add me back, i might forgo some TF2 if some people are gonna play right now.

Whose suicide are we talking about? :whistle2:s

The matches we had going on today (me, JFD, Mr. Beef, and Veronica Mars) usually ended up with close finishes - the fight in Onnet ended in thirty seconds, and we were all up to over 100% damage on our last life. I didn't do so well today, but I think that's partially because I kept switching characters for the heck of it.

The Ice Climbers got demolished, but I think was alive as Nana by himself longer than I ever was with both of them around.

I probably won't be back on tonight, but I'm planning to spend most of tomorrow night playing. If my friends aren't up for coming over (which, given that it's the start of St. Patrick's Day weekend, they might not be) then I'll be on again then.
