Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info

When you guys brawl with friends you ever got a random match where all it had was sandbags appearing at a ridiculous rate? I brawled with my friends on final destination and it was online, the whole place was covered with sandbags, it was odd because neither me or my friend had any items turned on except for the smash ball and we checked afterwards as well.
Maybe its some sort of easter egg or glitch?

I'm with Ikohn on the All Star Mode cheapness. fuck you, Pokemon Trainer. Learn to use down B!
And I gave the home run thing another shot today and I guess I wasn't pressing right as I was hitting A for the final hit. To be honest I never knew that was any different than pressing A normally. I thought directionals only mattered for the B attacks. Shows how much of an expert I am at this game ;).
God damn, man.

Repeated A: Basic combo
Hold A: Fast combo for some characters
Lightly pushing forward/while walking + A: Strong attack
Running A: Dash attack
Jam the control stick in a direction and hit (or hold - I don't think holding affects the baseball bat) A at the same time: Smash attack. That's what you've gotta do to finish off the home run contest. The C-Stick also works for this, or you could map individual buttons for these.
Sorry Kado bout last night, I was doing a tournament battle for another site =/
Ah, it's cool. I figured there was a problem with the connection. How did your match go?

Gee, thanks ;). As for the so-called dash attack, I already said running is impossible for me - just can't do it (unless I use Wii remote-only setup which I hate for general movement). Also, I could never use the c-stick (or second analog on CC) while also using buttons. Also, I hate that moving the left stick up makes you jump. Is there a way to turn that asinine behavior off? I end up jumping when I don't want to and then my X and Y jumps don't work when I need them too (thus making me fall to my death or whatever).

While I was never consciously aware that walking + A was a different attack then normal A, of course I do this all the time in normal brawls - it's not like I never did those attacks. It sort of comes naturally that you move towards someone and attack them. But for the home run thing where the target is stationary I tended not to do that.
So, in order to get all the trophies, do you need to go through classic mode with Charizard, Ivysaur and Squirtle? I know at the end, it only shows you getting the Pokemon Trainer trophy, but when I looked at my trophies afterward, I noticed I had a Charizard trophy as well, and I don't think that I got it some other way. But, who knows, I may have gotten it and not realized.

Also, Charizard's side+B is monstrous. I tried going through boss battles with Lucas on hard about 30 times and never beat it (That pokemon and Duon always got me). But, I went through with Charizard and pretty did nothing but side+B and I dominated it.
Yes, i beat it 3 times with pokemon trainer and got each 3 pokemon and 3 of the same trainer trophies. Also samus and zelda can get you two seperate trophies each. I wonder if Olimar gives you additional pikmin trophies though. I think i had 3, but i beat classic with olimar and made sure i had 6 pikmin at the time that i beat the last boss. However i didnt unlock any new pikmin. I think i have 3 but they do show up in the "fighters" section of trophies.

I think you get the individual Pikmin trophies from things like challenges because I have 3 too (red, white, purple)
anyone know how many total trophies there are, I got 200ish, could see there being another 100 or more
I believe there are something like 600 (or maybe that's stickers).
As for the so-called dash attack, I already said running is impossible for me - just can't do it (unless I use Wii remote-only setup which I hate for general movement).
I must have missed that. What exactly is the problem? You just have to jam the control stick in one direction.
Also, I could never use the c-stick (or second analog on CC) while also using buttons.
Don't have to, really. The C-stick does smashes, which take a long damn time, so you can still move back-and-forth easily. If you absolutely must, you could map the forward smash to a currently unused button.
Also, I hate that moving the left stick up makes you jump. Is there a way to turn that asinine behavior off? I end up jumping when I don't want to and then my X and Y jumps don't work when I need them too (thus making me fall to my death or whatever).
I think that's called the "tap jump". I use it, but yes, you can turn it off.

For me, it's mostly just throwing followed by one smash.
Thanks to everyone who helped me with finding out the challenges. I still have a few left to get. Actually i have a bunch.

Anyone have any tips on the cruel brawl challenges? I cant even beat 1 person in that and i always last about 0.5 seconds. :(
For Cruel Brawl, the trick I discovered was to hang on the edge a lot and trick the CPU into jumping after you. Then you jump up, hope they don't kill you, and grab the edge again. While you're invincible after grabbing they can't knock you off, so I was able to do that to kill 3 of the 5 guys. Even managed to kill a couple more. I used Samus if that makes a difference - I recommend someone hard to knock off, but faster than DK or D3.

Didn't know about Cruel Challenge... Damn, that's gonna take some work.

Anyone up for 1-on-1, stock, no weapons, final destination? I'm looking to improve my skills with my mains.

I'll be playing between 7-9 PST tonight. PM me if you're interested.

The best way to do it, I think, is to use Pit. Jump off the side someplace and use his up+B to fly back under the ledge and grab it. Then jump off the side again, use up+B, repeat... I got up to 14 without any effort.

It is my understanding that to run/dash/whatever it is called you have to be moving a direction and then somehow tap the stick rapidly in the same direction. This is what I saw in the tutorials on SSBM and never quite got. Either it never works for me or I just can't tell the difference between walking and running. Or is this "dash" the thing I find annoying on the home run challenge where I try to nudge myself over to the bag but instead seemingly "dash" or warp right through it and end up on the wrong side? If so, then I've been doing it all along ;). If that's the case, then how do you move normally?

Falco/Fox's up+B is by far the best method. I got to 12 before the alloys off'd me.

Now, if I got 14 and you only got 12, by what standards could your method possibly be better than mine?
kidding

I stopped reading after his post to say that. My bad.

Though I did try the Pit method beforehand, and those little bastards raped me every time. I guess it's just a trade off. With Pit, it's easier to grab the edge and you don't have to go near the platform so much, but his Up+B leaves you vulnerable. With Falco, you're constantly shooting up close to the platform, but you have that extra protection of fire if they try to drop down and hit you.

Just played All Star a bit, and can confirm that Pikmin are collected as normal trophies. Also, I am in fucking heart with Zero Suit Samus. I'm even warming up to ROB - he's got a helluva lot of power.
It is my understanding that to run/dash/whatever it is called you have to be moving a direction and then somehow tap the stick rapidly in the same direction. You can dash from a standing position - no need to be moving or to tap twice. Just hit the stick the the side once hard.

Or hit the stick over while an attack animation is going on.

I tried the Fox method before doing the Pit one too, and I never got more than one to actually jump off the ledge and not get back on. I could only do it with Pit because I was jumping to the side farther away from the ledge rather than just falling straight down as I did with Fox.

GG to Mindzeye and 'Trav' (excuse me; I don't know your CAG SN). Playing as Jigglypuff and getting her final smash only reminds me how useless it is. -_-

EDIT: Sure Ultimo, I'll play. I think we have to exchange FC's first.

I've gone from loving the Ice Climbers stage to disliking it. It would be fantastic if it wasn't so fucking slippery. I'm fine with it being mostly ice, but I need somewhere where I can do a foward B without slipping to the other side of the fucking level before I even swing my sword.
Good game(s), IKohn... sorry I suck, I've only played a handful of hours and Brawl is my first Smash....
no worries, better than playing against the computer any day.

Hey Yukine I had started a room. If you're still online (as you were when I came on) join my game ^_^

EDIT: Joe, I'm in a room right now. Someone just joined. After it's done I will. I have to delete someone..as I have all 64 slots filled :(

EDIT X 2: Sorry Suko, I enjoy playing with items on. Those kind of matches are pretty boring to me. I'm not really the competitive type for this game, I just like to play for fun

No problem, I'm pretty flexible with items.

Edit: Are you just doing 1v1's? Or anyone can join type matches.

Edit2: You like how I got that hammer, and then the mushroom, only to fall to my death because of that unstoppable forward momentum? :)

K this sucks when the fuckin match is on a 2 second delay. I'm fuckin jumpin and it's not responding, or I'm doing a move and it's not responding.. :bomb: Really annoying

Booooo.
Been trying to get into your room :/

Mars thats because the room is full
Joe this is my last match for now. This delay is drivin me crazy. When I respawn as Squirtle and fell right into the hole it's because the jump wasn't responding  That's annoying as hell. I don't mind losing, but I'd like to lose fairly
Considering it requires the remote, not really.
Well...it sounds dumb but before I'd have to keep batteries in the Wavebird AND remote, but now I can just keep them in the remote. Yes, I could switch them back and forth, but I am far too lazy :whee:

Whats the weirdest thing that has happened to you so far?

I was playing a game in the pirate ship level and then about 10 of those "Donkey Kong" hammers poped up all over the stage.

Just now I was just playing all-star mode and there was a pokemon ball and i got it and through it and this pokemon came out and flew away. But they left a CD and about 10 stickers laying around. I was able to grab them all. Once i finished all-star mode a news announcement thing said "You encountered Jirachi for the first time! Make a wish!". lol

The hammers were most likely from Tingle, and assist trophy.

I once threw a crate that released 3 pokeballs. Each pokeball had the little fire bird in it, so three were out at once  I took a picture of it too.
