Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info

blue, hero hates small stages. Olimar throw range is equivalent to the width of wario on a motorcycle.

Ousted again :whistle2:(. Good games maigo. Lucario's high damage combined w/ that blasted aura sphere and R.O.B.'s predictably slow kill moves = R.O.B.'s death. It always comes down to that last life where we both have high percents.

I think I'm gonna meet up w/ Dr. Mario Kart to see if I can get any pointers on improving my game. I've reached a plateau that I cannot seem to climb any higher. Besides, I have no physical friends who play Smash with me so I don't see how I can get much better.
But blast it all man, STOP WITH THE SPAMMING
Uh...everything's a spam. Lucario's aura spheres, R.O.B.'s layzahs, Pikachu's thunder jolts, Pit's arrows, MK's tornado, (insert practically every other Smash character). It sucks that this game is too reliant on spamming.

Everyone else here has reached a plateau so high that I can't reach them. ;)

Good games hero. I was surprised I was doing decent with my Olimar, as of recent he's kind of felt like crap. I think this is going to be my last tournament, for some reason its just not fun anymore playing competitively, I get too stressed out doing it.

Well when I'm playing against you I tend to get my damage multiplier almost maxed out since your main kill move is neutral A (which I ate at least 20 times that last game) and being how slow it is I can usually rack up some good damage, while you pick at my % with the optic beam and top.

Your pattern is optic beam/top, *wait for beam to charge*, beam *rinse and repeat*

When I get close you'll either jump and go into neutral A/back A or roll away and down smash/spot dodge. You just need to mix things up a bit, becoming predictable = fast KO.

I think I have the same sentiments as you Blue.

We should just play all items FFAs. Then, everyone has a chance to win and matches don't get repetitive.

I remember playing 4-player Super Smash Bros. 64 and it was so much fun b/c you HAD to play with items. The mayhem was hilarious and unpredictable.

EDIT: hero101, I gave you that site for a reason :p.

EDIT2: Regarding your 2nd line, lol. I'm just getting tired of trying to keep up w/ the competition when the competition is doing the EXACT SAME THING. I've been competitive in other games (particularly turn-based strategy, puzzle, and board) but damn... Smash has too many techniques, counterpicks, and a lot of other fine details. It makes my head go :bomb:.

Any pointer for improving Falcon? He seems to fly out of bound a lot.
I just thought that Marc was getting old and lost of his killer instinct. Just kidding. :)
Edit: Oh yeah Marc. I should visit there more often.

I think there should be a fine balance honestly, can you imagine Mario Kart without items? It would just be a generic (boring) racer. Yet toss in a few blue shells and some friends and you have a good time.

The same thing can be said for Smash. Last time I had friends over playing Smash, it was 3 vs 1 (me) since none of them had much experience and I'll have to say that was some of the most entertainment we've had in a while, especially when the whole room would cheer when a smash ball was pulled off on me. Of course, I'm also easily entertained by playing DK and running off the stage with other players. ;)

I seriously don't know how some of these "high level" players really do it, because a lot of what they do seems to take the fun out of the game, at least for me.

A lot of it really seems like routine now, even I have started losing interest. That being said, I've really enjoyed the FFAs though when people just go after eachother without holding back.

I really enjoy local multiplayer the best though... not just because of that horrific move queue online with my fav fatbutt bowser.... but when we manage to get together for friendly games... everybody who plays typically dislike items (especially smash balls) because only two people will get them (damn near instantly).... so they really enjoy playing no-items. Unfortunately finding a time when we're all off work and the one kid isn't on World of Crapcraft *vomit* is so few in between... it's hard to get our mix of SC4, Brawl, MK, Cod4 and NCAA09 in just a few hours.

GGs earlier MadD, sorry I bailed without posting but had to go get some foods to get my %age down.
That's it.

If you want to join me in some friendly FFAs tomorrow, here are the rules:

All items. No Fox. Maybe Final Destination.
Agreed Goo. If you loses you have to drink beer.
Hey if anyone wants to brawl now im on.
Why is the squirrel online so late?

Playing to win certainly can be very not fun sometimes. I've apologized to people on occasion after winning a match.

Its something that they have to sacrifice because of their urge to be the best/better

Uh...I don't drink beer b/c I'm Asian and my body is weak-sauce. Lol.

Watch Silent Spectre's Falcon. I watched some of his matches when he was playing in one of the UCSF bi-weeklies and it was unbelievable how the fuck he pulls off the stuff that he does.

Here are some videos from the recent Brawl tourney in SF of his C. Falcon. I wasn't around for day one (singles tourney), unfortunately.

By the way, evergoo (or anyone else in the Bay Area), are you going to the Emeryville Brawl tourney on the 30th of this month? It's going to be huge. Even if you don't enter, there should be a bunch of friendly games around, so there's plenty of practice to get from there. Going to be a tough ass competition since a bunch of SoCal players are coming over here for this. Tourney info is here: http://axisgaming.org/index.html

Hmm...this looks quite interesting. Thanks Bavgate. I actually didn't know about this b/c I don't follow tournaments.

I'm not interested in entering unless Mr. Beef does doubles w/ me because that's the best chance I got at getting somewhat far.

What I'm more interested in is seeing how these elite Smash players use their controls, particularly the joystick and c-stick. The way they play and input moves is much faster than any CAG I've seen, even after considering online lag.

Just throwing it out there that I don't mind playing 1v1 or free for alls. I'd always play five minute matches with items on back before I discovered competitive Smash during the Melee days. Either way is fun for me.

Hmm, I've never actually watched the way they play and input moves. My eyes are always fixated on the TV or I'm too busy getting my ass kicked by them to notice anything.

Which reminds me... My friend and I ended up playing DSF and Ajax in the first round of the doubles tourney on day two of that SF tourney I talked about in my last post. Needless to say, that wasn't very fun for us, although we did decently against them.

QFT. This is how I have felt for quite a while. The last two years of college (with Melee), everyone wanted to play 1 vs. 1's, no items, etc. I got so sick of it. It was almost always the same matchups, with the same routines.

Brawl has been (for the most part) the same thing. I wish "With Anyone" matches worked better (they take forever to connect for me), because I just don't want to play "competitively" sometimes.

Thankfully, I have a number of friends that have the game as well. We have some incredibly fun matches when we get together. Unfortunately, we all live in different cities these days, so it's a rarity when we get to play. (And we don't play much online...though we really should. Local matches are just so much better, with trash-talk and all.)

I've played with Jamez and Nina a couple of times. They play with most of the items turned on, and probably set to high too! It's not always fair since they seem to know the ins and outs of every item (and how to exploit the broken ones), but when we play I'm never at a loss for giggles

We should definitely have a day of all items turned on!

You lack the alcohol processing enzyme :)

Need some actual practice before hero on Friday...anyone up for some matches (1on1, 3way, ffa).

By the way, to you Dedede users: when doing the ^b move, pikachu's thunder doesn't affect you?

We gain superarmor as we're rising. It still hurts us but there's no knockback. However, on the way down everything is back to normal.

Had fun in the 3ways, not so much in the 1on1...sorry to say dyeknom

Jack`s Ness & Dye`s 1on1`s left me speechless.

Thanks for the tip suko
Wouldn't mind getting some practice matches in, anyone game?
I'm game.

If anyone is free around 8PM EST. They could invade the goozex mini tournament.
1. Go to this chatroom @ 8PM:
http://vgfive.com/goozex-chat/

2. Add FC from this list:
http://www.goozex.com/community/forums/p/24357/96676.aspx#96676

If you invade then it will be a CAG VS Goozex in one vs one brawl (robin-style).
Rules: 5 Stocks, No items, Any Stage

3. Post your FC in #2

Why does every keep adding captain falcon videos when I want regular falcon videos? Eckkkk....
Prbably because you keep calling him falcon when you're actually referring to FALCO.

Anyways hopping on now.
Oh silly me...

Sorry I left Izzy and James, when Lurk joined I knew 4 players was going to be laggy (I also knew that the pit arrow spam was going to increase by 200%).
605 pages and 12084 posts when is a new thread going to be made?
When JoeB get kids?

Thought I'd take a break from competitive Smash and use the following rules:

All items. No Fox. Maybe Final Destination...

Don't forget to set Time to 5 minutes :p.

Join my room if you're interested in some wacky friendlies. Make sure to change your rule settings and items should be on Medium.

No, lol.

It's just a joke.

If you want me to, suko, I will for fun.

EDIT: hero, change your rule settings.

Hey, that could work!

We need more people! It's just 1-on-1 right now.
