Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info

Olimar and his pikmin would be an AWESOME smash character. I second that!! Great idea.

I would propose a rule that there should be no characters who do not have their own game! No sidekicks. There are sidekicks, Luigi, Yoshi, diddy, but eventually each of them had their own game so they are cool.

I am ok with this delay as long as Mario Galaxy doesn't get delayed.

As for characters, I would love 50+ characters as long as it is a variety from all different types of nintendo games and not 10 characters from the same game. As for who I would like to see, Megaman and Mike Jones (he was in Startropics).

CoffeeEdge: When have they released three of their biggest franchises on one console so close to each other? Never.

Mario Galaxy is HUGE. Mario is Nintendo's biggest IP. Look how well NSMB sold on the DS. Nintendo is expecting similar sales for Mario Galaxy. The Wii also has Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games which Nintendo and SEGA expect to sell over 4 million units. They also have Wii Fit in Japan releasing this year. With hardware shortages, they have really no need to release anything else this year.
SEGA expect to sell over 4 million units. .
Sega hasn't been right about anything lately.

I don't expect that to change.
Hmmm.

Has the site always had the MSRP as "TBD" ?

I don't think they can be that cocky to actually raise the price beyond $49.99.

Well, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed about the delay.

But if it's to make the game even better than it already seems, then I'm all for it!
CoffeeEdge: When have they released three of their biggest franchises on one console so close to each other? Never.
Three? Which three are there now? And define "biggest franchises."

Look, I'm not saying that the games won't do great no matter when they're released, or that the Wii isn't going to do a real bang-up job this holiday. I'm just saying that I really think it's really naive and inane to think that Nintendo would choose to only have one big game for what is probably going to be the most important month of the Wii's life so far, instead of two.

The Wii is doing great, but it's not bullet-proof; the 360 and PS3 aren't going away, and they've got some damn fine line-ups for this holiday, and to think that isn't a considerable threat to Nintendo's current fortunes is foolish.
The Wii also has Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games which Nintendo and SEGA expect to sell over 4 million units.
Which is quite possibly the most overconfident statement in videogame history. And I'm pretty sure that some dude from Sega made that statement, no-one from Nintendo involved with that prediction.

CoffeeEdge: That is true though I believe Shigeru Miyamoto is working with SEGA on Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games and Nintendo is also co-publishing the game.

By "biggest franchises" I mean their staple franchises that sell well (Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Mario Kart, Smash Bros., etc).

I have been wrong about the Wii from the get go. I expected the Wii to cool down a long time ago and I expected Wii Sports to not be as popular as it is today. If Nintendo says they predict Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games will sell 4 million, I am not going to bet against them.

I think others are saying that 4 million doesn't sound like a Nintendo estimate, but a Sega one. And with Sega's track record as of late, nobody puts much stock into anything they say.

However, that being said, Mario & Sonic may very well turn out to be Nintendo's best-selling title this Christmas. Why? Because it's the closest thing they've released to Wii Sports 2, so far. There are a great deal of people buying Wiis simply for Wii Sports, and when Nintendo starts advertising Mario & Sonic, which basically looks like Wii Sports 2, especially with Miis not competing, then I think you might see it selling quite nice. It will sell a million, easy, if it doesn't stink. Four million? Eh, not so sure, but it could.
Hmmm.

Yes, it has been that way since the Dojo first started up.

I figured they could always put a $39.99 pricetag on it, and I'd be happy. (Yeah, they won't do this.)

Maybe, at one point, they were thinking of making a LE?

Has Nintendo EVER made a LE? It seems odd they haven't, as much as they like to milk every dime out of every game (taking forever to drop in price, much longer than Sony and MS). I always figured they might release some LE/CE for the Wii with download codes for the virtual console. Say, buy Metroid Prime 3 LE and get a free download of Super Metroid? Plus a comic book or something. OH well.
Has Nintendo EVER made a LE? .
Technically, gold carts for Zelda 64. But that's not quite the same definition as considering today.

There's probably a few more.

I had thought of those, but didn't really consider the Zelda games the same. There's also the truly limited games, such as the Zelda compilation disc, but I was thinking more of special editions of retail releases.

The bonus disc for Mario Kart: Double Dash?

Yeah, that wasn't really an "LE" either. I figured it never hurt to wish for one. It'd probably be one of the few LE games I would buy.

But I really couldn't think of any LE packages from them either.

No, just the gold carts and the very rare pre-order bonus. There was the also limited sale of the competition Star Fox games via Nintendo Power. So... 1 game at best and it wasnt really an LE.

So what's the record of playable characters in a game?

Mortal Kombat Armageddon has 54+...or is it something else?

Let's see if SSBB will break the record. Plus having other company's characters in Super Smash Bros Brawl cost alot of $ just to put them in the game.

Might be the most expensive game ever made.

If 4 million is the worldwide estimate, and includes the DS version, I think it's a possibility.

i was thinking if they decide to use Mega Man, it def needs to be like Mega Man 2 mega man or one of the others from the NES. At the most maybe from the SNES X series. Any other Mega Man is just unacceptable.

If Nintendo were smart, they'd think about releasing a demo (I'm aware how difficult that would be and that it has next to no chance of happening) with an upcoming game they want to highly promote.

Fire Emblem would be a good choice.

They could have one of them tours where you get to go EXPERIENCE TEH Wii!!..and basically play a bunch of demos of upcoming games SUCH AS Smash Bros.
But with 4 months to release, it seems highly unlikely.
And it's not like people DON'T know about the Wii..

So yeah, nevermind on my idea. However, it would of been a good idea!

The demo should be part of a VC purchase for the Original N64 Smash Bros. Problem is they haven't figured out a USB hard drive solution, so space is an issue.

And release it on the original scheduled release date of Dec. 3rd.

I think DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3 probably holds the record for most playable characters in a fighting game. 161 characters. I've never really played the series, but I think many of these characters are only slightly different from one another. But still, that is mighty impressive number.
I hope they at least give us a preview channel like they did with Metroid Prime
Seems less likely since they have the whole dojo site up. But it could happen.

I think this image gives more solidity to the "clones in Brawl" thought. Ness has the yo-yo down smash in Melee that looks exactly like that snake move.

Assuming (and hopefully) that Ness is still in it.

It would be great if we could get the Media Summit demo on a disk through their website. Didn't they give out Metroid Prime 2 demos through their site? It would be a great way to apologize to the fans for the delay.
Update: new stage, New Pork City from the Mother series.

It looks like its a huge stage.
Also, a monster known as the "Ultimate Chimera" appears on this stage...
If this guy sinks his teeth into you, it will launch you off in one blow. It’s pretty much certain that if you get hit, you’ll lose a life. But there’s nothing you can do. I mean, it IS the Ultimate Chimera.

That is deliciously epic! All these dark and gloomy stages are making me have an eyegasm! Only thing I can see being a problem is the poor ole landmaster will be owned on said stage. It looks like a very fantastic floating character stage.

I think the Chimera will act like the ghosts in Bubble Bobble right? He only comes out if nobody has died in a long while.
But I would like to have an option to turn the Chimera off. I wouldn't use it often, but it would still be nice to have.
I agree with this 100%. I love the stage, but I hate the Ultimate Chimera.

New Pork City is the best name for a city ever.

It does look kind of convoluted and confusing, I keep thinking about losing my character in the background.

Chimera off option please, and while you're at it have a "interference off" option.

That's a pretty cool stage.

But I do fear that any fight in this stage might just devolve into a contest to see who can throw people into the chimaera the fastest.
Didn't they give out Metroid Prime 2 demos through their site?
Those were mainly given away as a subscription bonus for Nintendo Power.
