Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info

Any pictures/videos of the Little Mac or Drill Dozer assists? I've seen the Advance Wars assist pop up in like 5 different videos, but haven't noticed the others.
Argh, I feel lied to. One of the producers said months ago that the game was done and ready to be pressed. What a liar.
I could have sworn somebody promised that Smash Bros. Brawl was going to come out this year. Did that actually happen or did I just magically wished that in my head?

The Castle Siege video. Drill Dozer shows up on the grey screen as it goes from 1st to 2nd.

Unfortunately, 1up only mentioned the Little Mac assist, so no pics.

EDIT: So turning off the smash ball item will mess up the balance? That sucks.
What? No.

Smash has always had fast and slow characters.
1up is stupid. Peach isn't super fast in Melee but she's still one of the top 3 characters in that game.

Ya know, this sucks but Im glad in a way. Theres plenty of goodness for me to buy and play this year already, and Im a fan of releasing a game when its ready, and not to meet a holiday deadline.

But, I literally just started reading this thread when I heard Sonic was announced as a playable character, and last night I pulled out Melee and gave it a spin in my Wii in preperation for this game coming out and NOW its delayed, lol.

I successfully avoided getting all hyped for this game until the day before the delay announcement. =p

The delay is both a benefit and a bane for me:

It's good since that's one less game for me to buy this fall/winter, and that's more time to add stuff. It's bad because I was looking forward to playing this over my winter break, and I wanted to dedicate Febuary to No More Heroes.

In the long run it won't be so bad. Just have to tough it out for a little while longer.

Peach's Final Smash is near the end of the Gamepro one. Their video quality sucks though.

Her FS doesn't look too great.
It looks like... little pink balls show up and everybody falls asleep? Is her FS a reference to the DS game?

All the stages have a very plain setup, and I figured maybe it was to accommodate some of the FSs. But looking that the end of the first half of the GamePro video, Giga Bowser looked pretty useless with that stage.

Everyone falls asleep, and then a bunch of peaches appear (which you can then eat to restore health).

Didn't really see that one coming.
I just realized we should be afraid now that Sonic is in it.

Every game with a 3D Sonic in it has been bad.
If you mean 3D plane, then I'd agree. Sonic Rush wasn't that bad. And this game is essentially in a 2D plane, so I think it'll be good nonetheless.

Gamespot video shows off a new item, sort of a spike ball.

Edit:
Another one too: Smart bomb. Makes sort of a long-lasting sphere explosion.

Edit again:
Bob-ombs seem to have been weakened.

DK hammer now has a more retro animation, so it will instantly go from vertical to horizontal and back, with no filler animation. Hrm, at least with Pit this was the case. When Yoshi got it, it looked just as it did in Melee.

Update: Screenshots

We can send them over WFC, and save to SD Card.

Sakurai has something blurred out, but no idea what it is. May get scrapped.

I have no idea what that "blurred" thing is, but let me start my wild speculation and say that one possibility could be a "print" button. How exactly it would work, I have no idea, but you could hook a USB printer up to the Wii or do it via WiFi. It would also be interesting if they allowed you to print the stickers on to sticker sheets.

More realistically though, I'm thinking its some sort of "upload to get rated" where they have a voting type channel for people to rate snapshots.

Ideas about the blur? Best I can think of is an edit shot mode, bet thats not it.

E for All news is cool, I did know about it already and since CAG and CQD are sending me there I'll get to be one of the first to play Brawl.

Delayed...typical Nintendo

However, unlike EA and others who rush out their game, Nintendo wants it perfect and then it gets very high reviews when finally released.

The problem is Sonic. What to do... I suppose if we’re going to all this trouble, perhaps we should make him playable.
---------------------------------------------------------

What? Isn't Sonic already fully playable?

Yeah, as much as I wanted to pull out the noose..and additional 2 months delay isn't too bad. I could see if they went from Dec 07, to "SUMMER 08"..or even Holiday 08! But an additional 2 months isn't TOO painful. Just a little :)

But like Lordwow said, I do and I will have plenty to play. So Hopefully in February there is NOTHING to play..except for Smash :)

Oh nice! I just saw that video with Peach. I really like it. Everyone falls asleep, it gives you a chance to eat all the Peaches to get your health back..then you can start doing your WA~CHA! to people :D...so is it immediate sleep? As if you were jumping over the edge and then her final smash came up.. would you just fall asleep and just fall straight down????

The delay was probably to maximize sales of their other games this holiday season. Also, I think Smash Bros. will move consoles. Seeing as how Nintendo will have no trouble doing that this holiday season, they probably wanted to move Smash to early next year when sales might have dipped.

I mean, besides a few bugs, what can they fix in two extra months?
It's just more time for Nintendo to announce characters like Simon Belmont and Megaman. :)
I agree. I dedinitely think we'll be seeing characters from those series. Maybe capcom apprpached them real late in the game and left Nintendo with little time to work with. I'm cool with a delay either way.
It's just more time for Nintendo to announce characters like Simon Belmont and Megaman. :)
Hmm... Simon, Alucard, Trevor, Soma... The Castlevania series makes it tricky to pick one guy. Although Simon and Alucard are the best known. Perhaps a standard moveset and alternet costumers are pallet swaps between the more well known users of the Vampire Killer.

Thinking out loud.

I'm all for the delay. This increases the chances that Nintendo will revamp their online (voice anyone) and Smash will incorporate it.
still holding out for viewtiful joe :)
I thought you were talking about the game for a minute and was about to remind you they already brought out 3 VJs. VJ would make an awesome smash character. Just imaging his Final Smash brings tears. Looking at the char list however I can't see any character that wasn't N-sclusive (cept Sonic/Snake) I think VJs PS2 forays hurt his chances.

If you think there's going to be voice chat, or suddenly an XBL like online experience with Smash, you are silly.

Especially because what is going to inevitably happen is that you'll sort of build it up like it would actually happen, and then just bitch endlessly when it doesn't.

This is Nintendo, people. I don't think they are going to do it. If they actually do, then it would be completely out of character for them.

Granted, I guess I didn't foresee Monster Hunter 3, so it's possible, but it is not likely.

I just hope we get more and more characters!

So here's a question for all: How many characters would be TOO many characters for this game? Let's be realistic too.

I would say the max should be 50. That does seem like a lot, IMO, but not too excessive. Overall, for Brawl I'd say 40 is a good number. As for 3rd party characters..hmm..I don't want their to be TOO many. Snake & Sonic is just fine.. and maybe we should JUST keep it like that..but I'd be open to accept at least 1 more 3rd party character. Anything after 3 would be kinda bleh to me.

Enough about ME, what about YOU?

Oops, sorry guys.

I'll start the updates fresh next week.
I went to work extra early and actually have a project.
Have faith!

And lilboo, there is no such thing as too much.
I mean, besides a few bugs, what can they fix in two extra months?
A lot of things. I imagine the delay relates to one, if not all, of the following.

- bug squashing
- character & game balancing
- online tinkering (essentially, testing the online experience)

In the last update about picture taking they blurred out a feature and said they weren't sure it would make the final game. I assume this is some tie-in with the Wii Vote Channel, and that would take some online testing. So, nothing major is probably being added, but that spit and polish sure is.

That would be sweet, though if we're voting for Capcom characters how about some Mega Man!

"Now you know how it feels...go faster my bitch!"

I care a lot less about the delay since I jumped on the Fry's deal for a 360 Pro wiht 5 games for $400. Those and Mario should keep me hopping through February, and plenty of other 360 games I'll need to pick up as well.

I just hope with the delay that the online system for Smash Bros is worthwhile from day 1 in terms of at least working well, minimal lag etc.

I don't think there's a "too many" number, unless we ended up with a bunch of clones.

And even then...I mean I'd take it. The clones in Melee still had slight changes to them to justify their appearance.

Yeah, never too many characters. Even if you don't play most of them, it gives you more variety in your opponents.

I guess if they just add palette swaps with the same move sets ala some of the Mortal Kombat games it would be too much as that doesn't add anything.

Then I nominate Dixie Kong as the first clone.
I wouldn't mind some clones..as long as they make sense.
Dixie being a clone of Diddy. Daisy being a clone of Peach (ohh, that'd be fun).

I never quite understood Gannondorf & Capt Falcon, but whatever
The delay was probably to maximize sales of their other games this holiday season.
I'm really getting tired of that theory. I just seriously don't think that they would have chosen to go into Holiday '08 with basically just Mario Galaxy, if they could have possibly avoided it. I mean, yeah, the Wii is doing great and bitchslapping all competition, but in the videogame biz, you can really never afford to let up or get lazy, no matter how far ahead you are.
I mean, besides a few bugs, what can they fix in two extra months?
Well, that extra 2 months has extended the overall development time of the game by about 8%. That's a pretty considerable addition, especially for fine tuning processes, I'd say.
So here's a question for all: How many characters would be TOO many characters for this game? Let's be realistic too.
I'm really not counting on more than 25, and if they right up close to 30, I'll be extremely surprised. I don't think they have many surprises left as far as roster goes, but I'd love to be wrong about that.

i wouldnt mind 50+ characters, as long as they werent scrubs. once they start adding characters like slippy, theres too many.

as for cream my pants characters... id like to see resetti and his pick axes from animal crossing, mega man is a no brainer, and fuck little mac, give me king hippo.
