Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info

In terms of secret characters... I don't think he's cagey enough to refer to things that he's revealed as 'secret'. I mean, that would basically go against the entire definition of secret, wouldn't it? Plus, magazines and the like are already reporting stuff from the Dojo, getting it out there.

As much as they want to get us excited, I guarantee that there's going to be characters and stages that are kept from us. What would be more exciting (hypothetically)... knowing Mega Man will be in it, or getting a random in-game message that says 'Congratulations, you've unlocked Mega Man' with no advance knowledge?

On the note of magazines, though... I was randomly flipping through the Game Informer with GB on it... and there's a SSBB article. In the article, there's a picture of Diddy, a giant banana, and Dixie Kong. Has this been discussed yet? Is she playable, just in adventure mode, an assist? Anyone?

Just looking at the roster number it looks clear to me that a gamecube disc could hold more characters. At the same time however you do have to consider that there are a lot of Wii owners who aren't traditional gamer and who don't get their information thru the 'traditional' means that we use. A lot of these new gamers don't read the news sites or the blogs or the gaming mags.

It would be cool but I highly doubt that a third party character would be hidden by release day. Maybe we'll get dixie but I whould eat my socks if Megaman pops up unannounced.

See, I'm not so sure about that. With already having announced Solid Snake and Sonic, the excitement over third party characters is pretty much at a peak. So, really, is there a great need to attract more people? Plus, it's Mega Man. Chances are pretty good that if you're not already attracted by the other two 3rd party characters, Mega Man probably isn't going to be the one to sell you on it. I love Mega Man and all, but I have to be realistic here.

If there *is* another 3rd party character, I'd have to assume that it would either remain a secret (or as much of one as it can in the age of the internet) or literally be the LAST update before the game is released.

Just my take on it, though.

I suppose it could be a final secret. I think however you underestimate the draw of the blue bomber. I think Megaman has HUGE draw. More than Snake anyway.

I can't however think of anyone who wants Megaman but who wasn't already excited about Sonic and Snake.

It's from the Nintendo Fall Press Conference Video. That screen in question is related to trophies.

what kind of magazine was it?
That kind that's called Game Informer and has Ghostbusters on the cover.
I'm not even sure if your being sarcastic, or you didn't get my joke.

Yeah Nintendo will most likely have to include a copyright notice for any third party characters on the title screen and in the manual.

Personally I hope Sora makes it in as a third party character.

Well, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 gave the copyright info at the time you unlocked the third-party characters, like Wolverine and Darth Maul. I forget if that information was then amended on the title screen, but I don't think it was.

Plus putting in Darth Maul isn't as big a deal as it is for a fighting game.
Crossover with Mario Kart Wii online where Brawl players could screw over racers and vice versa would be sweet.
I highly doubt it, but I could see them doing a track based on this where Smash Bros. NPCs attack karts.
Megaman would be cool. He is oldschool and would be a much better fit than a pokemon.:applause:
you have got to be kidding me...
I'm still holding out for Jesus and Gordon Freeman.
When you combine the two, you get Flash Gordon.
you have got to be kidding me...
Why would that be a joke. Megaman deserves his place in this game more than any other 3rd party character. There are over 20 Megaman games for Nintendo systems. He will be a character. He has to be.

How's this...

Konami puts in Simon Belmont.......

His stage is a forest set in day time with Dracula's castle in the background. A couple of skeletons are walking around to destroy those in their way. Enter Sakurai...

OH NO! WHAT'S THIS???? "What a horrible night to have a curse." ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? LOOK AT THE SKELETONS! THEY TURNED TO WAREWOLVES!!! OOOHHH..."The morning sun has vanquished the curse." WHOOOHH. THAT WAS A CLOSE ONE!!! BACK TO NORMAL!!!

Best stage ever.

I like the Waluigi assist trophy, though I have no idea who the other assist trophy is since I've never even heard of his game(though he looks like the lumas from Mario Galaxy).
Hopefully we'll get a few "US only" assist trophies, like the Rabbids from Rayman Raving Rabbids.

STAFY!

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

I was hoping he'd make it in this time!

The Stafy games are FANTASTIC. 1-3 on GBA and 4 on DS.
Definitely worth importing if you like Kirby-esque platforming games
+1 for Stafy inclusion.

+1 for unplayable Waluigi.
I don't know how you get that minus up there, but I took the liberty of fixing it for you, old chap wot wot!

No Waluigi, how wll I play as the best version of an evil Luigi. Seems weird since he's in all the games that he's not in it. Also my dreams of a 2 v 2 with Mario and Luigi vs Wario and Waluigi, I guess only in dreams...

You know, for some reason Waluigi's the first guy I pick in any of the Mario Sports/Party games, but yeah, he's garbage as a character.

Wouldn't Megaman's ability pretty much be the same as Kirby's? Swallow the opponent and take their power?

Stafy is from a Nintendo series only released in Japan. Imagine Kirby, but easier. Clearly designed for a younger demographic. Although, I'm surprised with Nintendo's focus on the blue ocean that Stafy doesnt fit someplace.

An option of course, but another option would be along the Pokemon Trainer route. Have a Smash button dedicated to switching powers (and suit colors) and include a half dozen of the most popular weapons from the Mega Man games. The palate swap for Mega Man would be like Peach to deferintiate between characters, where the alternate Mega Men would be wearing X, Exe, and ZX armors. Assuming those armors could be made as skins so as to not change MMs shape.

Stafi rocks. Own all four of his games but only touched one so far. Need to remember to pickup and play them sometime after I finish Phoenix Wright: Trials & Tribulations. I just wish I'd remember to call him Stafi instead of Starfi. I always do that.

Kindof surprised to see Wario in the game as a playable character but not Waluigi. They're often teamed together in Nintendo games as of late as far as I can tell. Oh well, I won't miss him too much but I'm still glad he at least makes an appearence in the game.

i thought Waluigi would be playable considering he was in Mario Strikers, Mario/Sonic, and Wario is in the game.

I wonder why they didn't make him playable

Because that's ALL Waluigi has been made for. He's been made so that games like Mario Party, Tennis, Strikers, ETC have an extra character. Someone to partner up with Wario, really.

So him as an assist trophy is perfect, IMO.

I don't like Waluigi. I love Luigi and i tolerate his evil twin because he needs to get anything Mario gets in my opinion.
Why would that be a joke. I was sure I said something like that before. Megaman would get the power of the last person he killed. he obviously can't swallow like Kirby but power stealing would be even more awesome than shifting like MvC2
An option of course, but another option would be along the Pokemon Trainer route. QFT

Waluigi is a terrible useless filler character and as such doesn't need to take up previous playable slots that can be used by someone else.

I'd trade Pichu for Waluigi.
Waluigi would at least make you laugh. He's a bad ass.

(assuming Pichu is there, but I really don't think he will, considering Pikachu's alternate clothes)

They have to space out their use of characters. I mean, it took us until now to get Diddy Kong, hell, it took this long to get Wario... they have to save *some* Nintendo characters for the next SSB.

And, I mean, seriously, who exactly is heartbroken that they can't play as Waluigi?

I hate waluigi, cos' he's so lanky and all cackly. He's like a trans-sexual witch. *shivers*

stafi is awesome though. I was wishing for a cameo/mention of him in mario galaxy, because he is very like a luma. oh well, super mario galaxy 2 anyone?
