Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info

That is such a great marketing angle for Nintendo... Since SSBB will be it most popular game, they can use it to generate interest in other games/franchises (even beyond the characters).

When SSBM came out, Fire Emblem interest increased, to the point where they actually brought them over.

dont hold your breath.

I can't believe Nintendo hasn't released a compilation or something with all the mothers on 1 disk. I'd imagine at least half of nintendo's fan base would buy it.

If there was money to be made, they would do it. I'd imagine they learned their lesson with Earthbound for the SNES and left it at that. In case you weren't aware, it bombed over here, despite all kinds of promotion. Where the hell was "half of nintendo's fan base" back then? Sleeping I guess. Or they already had their subscriptions to Nintendo Power and thus weren't compelled to pick up Earthbound.

Fact is the Mother games appeal to a segment of gamers that isn't large enough to offset localization costs and so on. I could be wrong, though. Just a guess.

Update: Pit Story video (although, for some reason I can't get it to load. All the others work fine).

You have to take into account how long ago that was, 12 years. Nitendo's fan base has changed since then. I'm sure thousands of people discovered Earthbound since then via rom or randomly finding it in a thift shop or vintage game shop. Maybe they were too young to have even been born then, or play video games. Maybe they didn't have an SNES.

I love the series, but I didn't buy Earthbound when it first came out because I didn't have an SNES then. I didn't get an SNES until 2001-ish. I would definitely [blindly] buy any Mother/Earthbound thing they decided to release now.

I bought Shining Force and Breath of Fire II immediately when they came out on the VC with no itentions of playing them anytime soon just to give it support in hopes of SFII/BOF1 to come out.

New update: Pit's Descent.

But its not loading for me right now. >_< I'm guessing its my school throttlin' it.

Edit: Looks like I'm not the only one.

I guess it's working now. Before, it would either not load, or download to a certain point then stop completely. *sigh* Too much trouble to go through for such an update. Still, it's nice to see some sort of intro for the new Pit.
This makes me lament the fact that there is no currently-announced Kid Icarus game being developed.
Indeed, I believe that this video is what is know as a cock-tease. Of course the entire site is a larger version of this action, but this particular video defines the action in spades.
That was CG no?

Wish Wii games could look that detailed.
I like the art direction.
PS3 and 360 games can't even look that detailed.
PS3 and 360 games can't even look that detailed.
With that art style, they can, like Blue Dragon, R&C.

It's not so much as that video looks like pure eye candy, it's just full and rich, and clean.

The character models in SSMB already look really nice.
I hope more Wii games can step up.

Watching the video again, yeah, they could easily do that on 360 with polygons.
It actually does look like Blue Dragon style graphics, which is nice.

I want to play that again now. Hmm, think I'll stop by my friend's place again and give it another go.

It's no use, strell will always think wii is teh ultimate with it's last generation hardware.
Wrong.
Go play Blue Dragon and see it for yourself on a nice TV.

This isn't Advent Children CG.

Yeah, you're right Ryles.

You're telling me you think the 360 and PS3 can pull off those clouds in real time?

You're living a dreamland.

And ryles, you have me confused with DMK. I mean I know you have a tendency to be an idiot, so I'll overlook it.

That's your point of focus? Those two-toned sepia clouds?

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/21490.html (here are some clouds, sorry I couldn't find the one where they pause it and zip the camera around the ship through the clouds)
If PS3 can push this scene, with everything in real time, that Pit video should be a piece of cake.

I just want player models to look as detailed as in that video, I really don't care a thing about the clouds.
And actually the Brawl player models already look pretty perfect compared to the CG.
I have no graphical qualms with Brawl.

It's other games that need to step as I've said.
That's not even close to the same thing. That's some fog in the foreground against a gigantic static image mapped to a rounded polygon, which isn't worth comparing. And once everything gets on the ground, nothing looks all that different from Gears of War, so I fail to see what the big deal is.

You said the PS3 and 360 can do the whole thing? They can't. Or at the least they could do is render it, but do so pretty badly.

You know very well I'm talking about the player models.
It hardly matters whether I had shown you a video of Gears or KZ2 (although Gears player models are very low poly in comparison, as are all Unreal engine games)

Alright then, they can't render the clouds as well.
They can't render the part of the video that is the least bit of everyone's focus. Ya win.

No, I didn't know you were talking about character models. Cuz then there's nothing to discuss.

Just like how I wouldn't give a shit about what drapes are in an apartment, and whether or not someone is using a cheese fork to eat their salad! :p

You must have missed my post where I asked which shower hooks to buy.

This is a cheese fork (for large platters), but you don't eat with it you silly goose!

In a futile effort to get continuity in the Smash Bros universe, do you think Palutena hangs out with Din, Nayru and Farore? Additionally, do the latter 3 have angel servants too?
He's like Fox, if Fox had comical joke moves instead of actual moves
does fox have barrel jump packs? Or a gun that can give him health?

The gooey bomb looks sick as hell.

I have always been a fan of using mario's cape. It always just came naturally to me not only as a way to reflect projectiles, or if Im lucky, samus' charged up beam blast, but also as a way to move laterally through the air.

I can just picture somebody tossing it at me and then using the cape to reflect it back onto the thrower, only to have it stuck back on to me by them running into me.
He's like Fox, if Fox had comical joke moves instead of actual moves
I have to agree. The upside is that it'll make him more fun than Fox.
does fox have [...] a gun that can give him health?
when you factor in exactly how much a single peanut can possible give back and then the effort required to not only launch the peanut but crack it, can we really say that Diddy does?

Also, if the shell breaks and a peanut pops out
sounds like we're working on a probability scale like with the barrel jet packs or Luigi's super head-butt.

where the heck are the tilt- and down- specials. it's not like Diddy is going to 'grow up' into DK and you wanna keep it a secret.
and where did that come from?

does not say Experience may change with online play under the rating
still RP, but unless there is a voice chat system I don't think the experience would change.

They seem to be obligated to say that though. They do it with Luminous Arc, and there is no possibility of the game experience changing. You cant even make icons in the shape of a crude penis or something.
and where did that come from?
Like everything else videogame related, it came from GAF.

This game will not have online, I will stop deluding myself.

This game has SO MANY conflicting reports about it. We have official japanese magazines telling us it'll have online, yet Nintendo gives us no confirmation of it having it, the fans hope, and we get a boxart that isn't complete (rating). What the hell?

The only reason I would believe this game doesn't have online is because the Director is telling Nintendo "You're online system sucks ass, and I'm not putting something great onto a crappy online serve to make the game worse."

If it's not online, it could wake Nintendo up about their online service.
