Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info
It's only really needed in co-op or team based games, so it doesn't bother me at all here.

Even if it was an option, I'd turn it off as I don't like to talk to people while gaming unless I'm playing with my friends (and none of them have a Wii) or playing a co-op/team based game where you have to communicate.

Don't need to listen to trash talk from strangers, or non sense from 12 year olds.
I just wish it was at least an option so when playing with friends you can trash talk and what not. I can care less when I am playing with people I don't know and it's good in the aspect where I don't have to hear little kids blabbing.

This is not a great solution - and most definitely is not meant to give Nintendo a pass, as I would be loathe to read - but if you're Wii is wireless, you could get a wireless headset attached to your computer and use that for voice chat.

I imagine this is what Nintendo wants you to do, since it would alleviate their servers of a lot of traffic and data.

Hell, if you've got a 360, you could do it through that also.

That's a bigger hassle, but still.

Again this is not fully dismissing the problem, it's just mentioning that there are other ways to get around it.
I'm guessing this is Reggie's "September Surprise". It's good news, even if I'm not 100% thrilled with how it's being implemented.
Reggie's September Surprise involves your mom, a donkey, a waffle maker, and a whole lot of water balloons.
I just wish it was at least an option so when playing with friends you can trash talk and what not.
That's what they have the 'taunt' for.

It makes you wonder why they were being coy about it, and I wonder if wifi was ever really off the table.

This was informally announced in 2005, so I'm less excited and more relieved that it wasn't cut. Although really, the lack of a win/loss record in worldwide play is a major low blow.

Given how many people have suddenly stated that they now are going to buy a Wii at their earliest convenience, I get the feeling it was intentionally delayed until this moment for a reason.

You know this means that the Pose buttons are being moved from the D-pad, right? (If you go by GameCube controls) It'd be sloppy to have 2 things happen at the same time.

It's the 100th update (from what I've been told), and let's not forget what comes out next week. Stealing a bit of thunder maybe?

Maybe they're skeptical about voice chat over wi-fi. I mean, you can still add a random person via friend code, and he could turn out to be a Ronald McDonald hungry for a Jr. Cheeseburger with a side of fries. Meh, it's their decision.

Now wi-fi as limited as it seems, looks like will get the job done for the most part.

People to rape once Brawl comes out:
DMK
Strell
Mario Colbert and his bag of dicks.

If I understand your statement right, you're wrong. The site says that "These short messages are entered in advance, and you send them by taunting. There are four messages for the four directions on the + Control Pad: Up, down, left and right."

Confirming that, you can see Donkey Kong's "Shrug" taunt while "Want more?" is displayed above his head.

Also, this update was all I wanted to know. It's going to rock.
Unfortunately, you wont have the opportunity to do this.
Oh, I'll find a way.... there's always a way...

And dallow you can join in for some threesome action. MM, yummy.

Uh oh, my inner sex-offender is coming out.

btw, the confirmed roster is this so far?

Mario
Wario
Snake
Kirby
Samus (&zamus)
Link
Pikachu
Metaknight
Kid Icarus
Donkey Kong
Diddy Kong
Zelda
Princess Peach
Fox
Ike
Bowser
Ice Climbers
Yoshi
PKMN Trainer (w/various PKMN)

and I'm most likely missing somebody.

That is pretty large and I'm assuming those are all the default characters leaving the Unlockables not present. Anyone remember how many default characters were in melee?
Gonna suck for characters with long taunt animations.
Leaves you very open if you want to send your insults.
They should have Young Link in Brawl so they could just upgrade his taunt to a 3 minute English tea and crumpet break.

The only way is if we happen to cross each other's path somehow, like at a tournament, and I dont even know where you hail from.

I dont expect there to be any big money tournaments to travel to until the new year, nor do I know if I'll be able to reach the level where I'd consider going at all.

Oh, I'm closer than you think... MWAHAHAHA
Anyone remember how many default characters were in melee?
Super Smash Bros. Melee featured 25 characters, of which 14 are available initially. Super Smash Bros. had only 12 characters, 8 of which are available from the start.

Thanks Wolfkin. Well, I listed 19 chars (though I feel as if I'm forgetting someone again), I would be pleasantly surprised if they reveal more on their site. And think of all the unlockables.

I don't want to play in tournaments again.

The really good players... I can hardly even damage them.

There was a group of guys I used to talk to in Dallas.
They were weird so I didn't keep in contact, but they were the best players I've ever met.

I was lucky to get them to more than 50% off of them.

To defeat the no-life, you must become the no-life.

I love the new avatar.

Nope, it looks like it adds to the taunt.

No voicechat/messages could be good... last thing i need is random little kids screaming "noob" or text spamming "ur gay" while im beating them down in an online game.

I wonder how many character you will be allowed for the taunts? We don't want people writing whole paragraphs.

Are we sure that the taunts are not just customizable from a couple dozen Nintendo-approved suggestions? I can see Nintendo doing that just so that I can't have an avatar of Wario telling the princess to bend over.

Well, they were probably mostly concerned that they couldn't get the game playable online. The lag was a major issue they had to wrestle with, to be sure. This reveal means that they're confident enough in their code to (pretty much) guarantee the feature's inclusion in the final product.

But that's also a possibility.

That's probably the exact reason they said you could only taunt when playing with people on your friends list. That way, if someone irritates you, you can kick their behinds off your buddy list.
Tomorrow's Update:
LOL! JK! No WiFi. Here's the character profile for Dr Mario!
A New Challenger Approaches!!!

Sandbag!!!
I can't wait to play online with some of my friends. I'm already thinking of insults to use on them.
Most of them are to be used immediately after Wario's fart Final Smash, right?:booty:

Wow, they're really layin' on the big updates. I'm lookin' forward to what they'll pull out of their asses on Friday and Monday, seein' as how they might want to chip a little bit of Halo's steam away.
Cannot wait to try the laggy AI mode.

Oh, thats random multiplayer? Sounds ... fun...
Wow.

You sound like you need to try a different brand of tampon. Whatever you are using just isn't working out right now.

As for update:

1. Damn, those are some nice enemy designs.

2. Haha. Sony E3 reference. Even Sakurai gets in on it.

3. R.O.B. Apparently I was scarred of that thing when I was a kid, so some part of my subconscious will find beating him up cathartic.

Having ROB as a villain is a masterstroke. I kind of wish the whole army was made up of obscure Nintendo references, but then again, the designs aren't bad. Very Nintendo-like. I'd still love to see more old characters like Eggplant Wizard, Mouser, Mother Brain, etc. show up in one form or another.
