Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info
Well, I doubt input lag will be your biggest problem.

As you're playing Strell, your biggest problem will be Lucas's UpSmash.

:bomb:
1: Strell plays as Lucas? I find that vaguely humourous.
2: That up smash is a fucking beast. A slow beast, but a beast nonetheless.

My theory is that Strell plays Lucas because he wishes to inflict punishment on people who have yet to play Earthbound (like me, for example). Also, he probably just likes Lucas.

What is this. I took out Hero with Pikachu and....someone else. Kirby maybe? Marth? I can't remember.

I'll gladly take Lucas and bring down the hurt, but it's difficult to use him when there's lag. If you get caught off a ledge, you're not coming back, because PK Thunder jumps are too difficult to time correctly.

I still need to unlock Luigi. The pain cometh in viridian.
My theory is that Strell plays Lucas because he wishes to inflict punishment on people who have yet to play Earthbound (like me, for example). It's the kind of name that just scares opponents into surrender before the first PK Fire is even thrown, y'know?

As it is, I hate Lucas's UpSmash offline. Or rather, I hate Lucas.

"Oh no! Lucas is running at me! I think I'll just roll through him."
*cancels run into Usmash*

"We're both on platforms. I think he's going to do Usmash. I think I'll just drop down."
*gets hit by Usmash's GIGANTIC hitbox that also covers below him*

What? I died at 70%?

Seems to happen to me a lot. My attack aren't coming out always.

Also, I like samus but her attack are too floaty...I'm in the air for like 7 secs for a spin attack. And the lag makes me miss my opponents very often. I better do more to compensate for this weakness. If I get down I get hit by a up A attack or something. However, if I block immediately after then I get thrown. I need to practice the sidestep move.

Darn it, I shouldn't have used Peach on Strell. I kept throw turnips at him and she doesn't have many good moves except for that strange hip attack.
the biggest problem is always input lag, when you press the button your attack will not always come out, or it will delay for a moment before executing
Quick question. If someone refuses to let you in a match, does a message tell you you've been refused, or does it say unable to connect?

I have a few questions about online settings. Everytime I host a game with my friend I turn items off and we end up playing with items. after every game I check to make sure items are off and they are yet they still appear. Can someone explain this to me?
why is it that everytime i decide to mess with ROB my opponet chosses pit, who is like the ultimate rob slayer?
Heh, sorry. The same usually happens to me when I try Diddy Kong, who is apparently my Ike magnet.
sorry joe. tourny fight
Me? I didn't try to interrupt anything.

Also, is anyone on right now? No one on my Friend List is, and I'm lonely.

Good games earlier to Blue, Suko, and Evergoo. Any of you see where I tripped THREE fuckING TIMES in a row on Final Destination? I swear this game hates me.

Evergoo, you have no idea how pissed I was when that up smash hit me when it was down to me as Zero Suit Samus and you on the Pirate Ship. I had you on the ropes and thought I was gonna be able to pull that victory off. fuckin' Ike. Regardless, good games. I'd like to play you one on one sometime too, if you're cool with that.

Man. The Smashboards are fucking depressing to read since Brawl came out. Almost as bad as any SC2 forum. However, I got what I went there for. Sorry if this has been posted already. The second set of numbers are more accurate, as they don't get fucked up by fall speeds, but the top set of numbers is certainly interesting (Captain Falcon needs to hit the gym, man).

These are the percentages that characters while standing were Star KO'd by Mario's Utilt on Final Destination. At 1% less damage they survived. This shows you the relative character weights. This test was done using Training mode. I have also verified (exhaustively) through this test that IN TRAINING MODE, the move overuse penalty is only for damage; knockback is unaffected.

Other moves (Snake's Utilt) were used in tiebreakers to determine who is heavier when someone was KO'd at the same percentage of Mario's Utilt. This is why Metaknight, for example, is listed as heavier than Fox and Kirby.

130% Jigglypuff
135% Squirtle
138% Mr. Game & Watch
142% Fox Kirby
142% Metaknight
144% Sheik
145% Zelda Zero Suit Samus
146% Pikachu
147% Pikmin & Olimar
148% Peach
149% Falco
151% Ice Climbers
154% Marth Toon Link
155% Diddy Kong Lucas
156% Ness
157% Luigi
158% Pit Sonic
158% Mario
160% Lucario
162% Ivysaur
164% Samus
165% Robot
166% Yoshi
167% Wolf Wario
168% Charizard
169% Link
172% Ike Ganondorf
173% Captain Falcon
175% Bowser
180% Donkey Kong
181% Snake
185% King Dedede

And here is the list for Side KO percentages. Same concept, but only Side KOs were counted. The move used is the front part of Mario's C-sticked Dsmash (C-stick works in training mode now). Since only sidewall KOs are conted, this does NOT factor in fall speed. KOs against the bottom-side wall (The Brawl KO walls are an octagon, not a rectangle like Melee) do not count. Note that the characters are in a different order. Weight against horizontal and vertical attacks works differently.

The tiebreaker move was the front part of Fox's C-sticked Dsmash, thoughmost ties didn't break (same % on this move too). I'll break them later, here's the current data.

115% Jigglypuff
117% Fox Squirtle
119% Mr. Game & Watch
121% Pikachu Metaknight
122% Kirby
122% Falco
123% Zero Suit Samus Sheik
125% Pikmin & Olimar
127% Zelda
128% Marth
130% Ice Climbers
131% Peach
131% Diddy Kong
132% Toon Link
132% Lucas
133% Pit Ness Sonic
136% Mario Luigi
136% Wolf
138% Ivysaur Lucario
139% Captain Falcon
140% Link
141% Ike
143% Yoshi Ganondorf Wario Robot
145% Samus Charizard
146% King Dedede
147% Snake
150% Donkey Kong
151% Bowser

I think it just said Joe. I don't know who it was but someone tried to join us. . Whatever.
I will be on for 30 minutes or so...and then maybe again an hour after that.
I think your connection is really bad or something. These past few games have been a slide show.
I think your connection is really bad or something. These past few games have been a slide show.
Yeah, it was bad.

Not sure about the connection. I have perfectly fine games with some, and others...not so much.

Great games Suko and BlueLobstah.

Comments for Suko:
Fighting against your Marth involves a lot of psychology. I fear the counter.
Like against all skilled Falcos, I hate that pesky laser.
I got raped by King Dedede. Why? No one ever plays with him so his moveset is very unfamiliar to me.

EDIT: To Arikado: I saw the triple trip and lol'd. And I don't mind going one-on-one against you some time in the future.

I'm still trying to get used to Marth's sword's range. I'm still stuck in melee mode with him.

But yeah, good game's. I got pwned 90% of the time. Ike's just too hard to air dodge Ike's move because of the lag and it really helps that you're good with him. Thanks for playing that many games with me.

Good games Khaos, those pit vs. pit matches were pretty intense :) I'd play more but my controller was starting to run out of juice during that last match.

Mr. Beef vs. suko_32 vs. BlueLobstah

My Olimar is slowly getting better, but I still have a problem with a few stages (like Sky World, or any of the F-Zero stages) where Olimar is clearly at a disadvantage if he gets knocked off. I'm amazed at how good a couple of CAGs I've played over the past few nights, which goes to show I still need practice.

Is there a way to increase the amount of trophy stands you get in Subspace Emissaries? Trophy drop stickers?

Also, I've never seen one drop during boss battles. Is there a way to increase the frequencies of those? I'm trying to collect SSE trophies.

Cambot, you have to play the coin toss game for stickers and trophys. Otherwise, not many of them show up at the end credits.

Actually, I believe he was asking about these. There's a lot of trophies that aren't available in the coin shooter mode.

Play SSE on Intense. You'll get more stickers/trophy stands this way.

I've had stands drop during boss battles, but only at the begining or right as i deliver the final hit. The boss battles that are the entire level would be your best bet. Also is there verfification that the bosses can get trophy'd?

Yes. The only way to get SSE trophies are through the SSE and with the trophy stand thrown at them when they are low on hp, so if you want boss trophies, just think pokemon style. I recently got Rayquaza and Petey trophy. You really have to be lucky with trophy stand drops during a boss battle. Just get them to low hp, and dodge around for a while.

Regarding stickers, there is a sticker that adds +30 to trophy drops. I think the sticker is Big Boss, and that one i believe is available through drops and coin launcher (I have two of them). Im not sure if that is the highest though.
The Great Maze sucks. It's gonna take me forever to get through this nonsense. I just want to earn all the damn characters.
I played through about 60% of SSE. I just unlocked sonic by playing group matches. It doesn't take too long playing 1v1 a level 7 computer with you on random. I get a well rounded understanding of most of the characters and still play the computer at a decent level.

150 more matches to go to unlock wolf I think

This is incorrect. The way REAL MEN unlock characters at blinding speed, in case you missed it:
Rules
Stock-1
Stage select-random
Special Brawl
Stamina
Flower
Speed-Fast
select random characters, or whoever you want to have lots of KO records.
press A on your (CPU) opponent's stamina and scroll up to make it 1HP instead of 150.
(optional)If you have more controllers and want more combined VS time, add more (human) players that have more than 1HP. Note it will take more time to press start on 3 or 4 controllers.

Now here's how brawls go. 321 GO! *finish* *press start* 321 GO! *finish* (repeat)

And you can just keep pressing start while you're browsing CAG or something.

I was going to do that since I'm not a fan of the SSE, but decided against it since I wanted to keep my data records accurate.
If I'm reading that right, Crotch. Side Smashes are more powerful than Up Smashes? I thought it was the other way around.
The list is purely about weight. You'll note that the vertical weights (weight - fall speed) were determined by Mario and Snake's utilt, while the side weights (pure weight) were determined by Mario and Fox's down smash.

Just realized in my post earlier that I mixed up the Dojo and Smashboards. Blech. I got those numbers from Smashboards. That's about the only thing you want to check that forum out for these days...

Dedede's a fatty FTW!

EDIT: Also, I'm surprised by how sturdy Snake is. I mean, I realize through playing that he is, but as sturdy as DK and Bowser?

Can't you just to random human vs random cpu? Should keep it pretty accurate.

I did this setup -- except instead of 1 stamina I did 300%--, chose Mr. G&W, and used his neutral b fish/sausage throw. The spread of the projectiles offers probably the best coverage and one hit will knock opponents off in the specified Special Brawl. Best of all: I didn't even need to watch as the only thing I'd press was b/start and my k:d ratio was 3.5/1.5.

I thought it said on the menu that Special Brawl records aren't recorded. Can you unlock characters by playing special matches anyway?

I beat SSE a few days ago, so I have all of my chars anyway. I just wanted people to be sure so that they don't waste their time.
