Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info

3rd in Tulsa out of ...54?

Pokemon Trainer won it. Never seen a serious PT. It was wild.

I lost a close one to him and then threw a match away against a Falco to get 3rd. Killed myself with MK, then switched to G&W, destroyed him, and then lost a close close 3rd one with G&W again. BOO. Thats 6 3rd places. 14 or so tournaments in like 15 weeks.

I might've been able to take that PT eventually, if I had any idea how to fight him at all. Element of surprise and all that. There was a pretty good Bowser there. Two good Yoshis. No good Snakes. Hell, I probably had the best Snake, G&W, and MK there.

He was all about Charizard. Throws and that Rock counter thing.
 
Man that rock attack looks so worthless. I remember playing Brawl for the first time with some friends and someone tried doing that, and we kept laughing at him because we thought wondered why he didn't throw the rock.

Then I played someone here online and they used it successfully. Blarg.

DMK there's never tourneys in CS, aye? I'm afraid to go to Austin to play. You people probably beat me with pure thought or something.
 
I wished I didn't live in a cultural wasteland. Then I might be able to participate in some tourneys and play good people in person. DMK, ever wanted to come out and see Mt. Rushmore? ;)
 
I think we're actually having a tournament somewhere near Austin next weekend. I think it might be New Braunfels, which I guess is closer to San Antonio.

You would be pretty good if you didnt roll so much and got ultra aggressive with your attacks, particularly beyond the ledge. Right now you're all defense, but that doesnt win you matches. You would make a good Meta or G&W, since they have vicious throwing games.
 
I could probably work on those things if I had people to play with, since I don't think playing online really helps - the lag screws me up way too much. I do a lot of double-rolling and usually end up facing the wrong way, or attack buffers ruin timing.

I gotta figure out some priority stuff in the air before I get good at chasing. Mmmmm.

Can't afford to drive to Austin to get practice. :p

I'm going to assume all of the bolded refer to Strell, if only to preserve my ego. :bouncy:

DMK was around last week and we sparred off. He remarked that my Bowser was surprising and that my Wario gave him "more trouble" than he originally thought it would.

'Course, I helped that fucker learn at least two new tactics. He better be using them in battle.

JoeB you know what he's talking about - I noticed I do better against you when I just go for broke with my Kirby and try to stomp you out as quick as I can.

But too defensive, eh? It's Starcraft all ova again.
 
I have the same problem. Sometimes I get so exhausted trying to approach, I just wait for their move. Which, according to current tournament play, is incorrect. :)

Today I was doing great, though. I think I'm getting better!
 
G&W down throw is cash munknee if they dont tech it. Neutral A into regrab if they dont expect it. Downsmash. Maybe even Neutral A, DownSmash. Or tech chase if they do tech it. Forward Smash for something with alternate timing.

I need to get back into some Smash, since my 360 has died I've found myself playing Wii games I only opened and stared at for a few minutes (Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, Ghost Squad).
 
I can't hear it when people are getting Captain Falcon'd off the stage because I have enough stock left that I can afford to suicide just to kill their last mans.

Isn't that right, yu- Falcon boot to the head spike-kine?

That's sad. Makes me wish I had been there, or even my flatmate since he plays a good MK.

Was the PT a fat guy with a beard and glasses? Or was he a skinny-first year "looking" uni student?

Hopefully I will be there on August 1 for TnT, to get in on Brawl and SC4
 
His name was Josh Smith, from somewhere abouts Tulsa. Not particularly fat or thin.

I played all my matches except for my 2nd one on a tv that was actively recording, so sometime in the distant future, I might be able to post a progression of videos that shows the cakewalk that I had all the way up to winner's finals, followed by utter ball dropping.

I was spamming everything? Uhh okay...I enjoyed the games and some were quite close. I didn't know you two were having a bad time and not once did I feel like I was spamming.
