Surprisingly The Last Movie You Saw Didn't Suck Pt. 2

Bad Lieutenant - Great. Shows Nic Cage can still do a great job.

Tron Legacy - I liked it a lot. With everyone saying the middle got boring I was expecting it, but I didn't find the movie boring at all.

Saw the green hornet at the casino and it was decent. A little goofy all the way through and over the top at the end, but worth watching imo.

I felt the same way.

I actually watched that last night as well and was fairly intrigued. I looked more into the idea of Mr. Brainwash, and what people have been saying, but it definitely was a great documentary. The Disneyland part was crazy...

Catfish - An interesting "documentary" about a guy meeting a family over Facebook. They try to sell it as a "thriller", but it really isn't. Also, while I completely believe the story (it is extremely believable in the age we live in) and the characters and whatnot, I can't help but shake the feeling that some of the scenes were staged. Still, I think that most of it was based on a true story.

Good for a watch.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3EDxgecC14

For those of you who are curious. But like I said, this is NOT a thriller like they seem to advertise it as.

I really hated Catfish because the way they kept portraying it. I found it hilarious becaus around the time the DVD was about to be released the main character was on Dr.Phil talking about how it was "true" and the audience just kept playing along.

I watched Unthinkable and Exam on Netflix last night. I enjoyed them both, though I found Unthinkable a bit predictable and I was more information was giving at the end instead of just ending. I liked Exam a lot, I thought the question aspect was very enjoyable once the ending happens and it all comes together.

I also saw Green Hornet in 3-D two days ago. I thought it was a bit meh and the 3-D was terrible, my wife thought the 3-D was worthless and I agreed. It had some funny parts and some parts where it tried to be funny but wasn't even close. The action was okay as well. I'd say its a rental at best.

Undercover Brother - 4/5 - First time seeing the movie and I found extremely hilarious. Dave Chappelle stole the movie as Conspiracy Brother.

Its about the same, they pretty much copied it frame by frame. Rec is better because its the original but Quarantine isnt nothing to sneeze at either.

I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE- the remake. Had lil to no expectations of being entertained and this one was a squirmy surprise. It was just the right amount of camp, nuance, and gore. Was so much better than Human Centipede.

TRANSSIBERIAN-This was great. Woody Harrelson is underrated. Check out Defendor if you get a chance. Kate Mara goth'd was pleasant.

GREEN HORNET IMAX 3D. Still not sold on 3D, its kind of lame, but the movie was a great. Really like the early surprise cameo and the villain's arc. Also like the innuendo of the whole hero/sidekick role reversal.

OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies - 3.5/5 - Pretty darn good movie. At first OSS 117 will look like a bad bond ripoff but its more Austin Powers with the quantity of jokes. Early on the movie didn't get me to laugh much as most of the gags were on going throughout but near the end I was laughing out loud. Definitely a funny movie with a fun story. Jean Dujardin who plays OSS 117 does a fantastic job. Can't wait to find time to watch the sequel OSS 117: Lost in Rio.

Takers - a nice parkour scene from Chris Brown and a decent fight scene for Hayden Christensen. Otherwise, a very okay movie.

Megamind - short and inoffensive. Will Ferrell's relatively subdued, but fits the character well. Also didn't hurt that the titular character looked like a blue Neil Patrick Harris mixed with Matthew Morrison.

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.

Enjoyed it--same reaction I had with the 2nd, not sure why the reviews were so much lower than the first. First is the best movie wise (books I like the 2nd best) but the 2nd and 3rd are very good. As I said then, maybe the last two were harder to follow if you hadn't read the book since they did cut a good bit.

Good to hear! Saw that it was added to Netflix recently so I'm going to watch it soon. Loved the first two.

The Parking Lot Movie, which is up on netflix instant watch now. Its a doc that follow the lives of parking lot attendants for 3 years....it was surprisingly really good.

Saw 3D - Now, I should have known what I was getting myself into. I haven't liked a Saw movie since 3 but I've been watching them anyway, hoping one would surprise me. This one did not. This was almost a complete copy of Saw 3, the entire game was the same, one guy goes through and has to do things with other people's lives at stake to reach his chained up wife at the end. Jigsaw was in 2% of this movie, the reason the first few were good was because Jigsaw's character was so cool and likable. Without him it's just that much more boring. Then the twist at the end was really stupid and was used before.
Cary Elwes character was apparently working with Jigsaw all along after the first movie. They already did that with the detective guy, but this time its so much more unbelievable. I seriously doubt he would have wanted to work with Jigsaw after making him saw his own leg off.
The only good part of the movie were the deaths, they were pretty violent. Overall, it was shit. Thank god I didn't pay for this crap but I had to see it anyway.

Exit through the Gift shop.

I am confused at this, I guess I am stuck in the is this a Mock or a Doc debate. If its a mock then I kinda like it but if its a doc then its trash. The first half was very watchable and extremely interesting but when it switches to the Camera guy I lost it.

The Mr.Brainwash guy is such a douche because he is a poser. He is not a filmmaker or a artist he is a guy who fell into it by complete chance and then copied what he saw without ever even attempting to learn the craft of either Film-making or Art.

I still liked it because it did showcase street art and the artist behind them with their struggles of how to produce an illegal art show and that line of doing things for mass reaction vs dealing with becoming mainstream. Although I am happy for the people who worked for Mr. Brainwash because those people are legit craftsmen with talent....their boss was just an idiot.

EDIT: I just realized that I was referring to the content of the doc not the doc itself. The doc itself is very well made, well shoot, well edited and the story was fantastic. So for that I will say its a excellent use of your time. Well worth the watch.

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest

Good movie and wrapped up the franchise nicely. I didn't like how the main character was in a hospital most of the time, but the ending was great, because the nasty villians of the movie got what was coming to them.

A bit on the long side though.

It will be interesting to see how the America version of this trilogy will turn out. Probably won't be as good.

Hard to say. I'm usually negative about remakes, but with David Fincher at the helm I have high hopes.

Plus one thing a lot in the US don't know is with the Swedish movies on the first was made for the theater. The 2nd and 3rd where made as a TV miniseries, that they ended up cutting way down and putting out in theaters after the success of the first.

That's why the production values aren't quite as high on the last two compared to the first, but they're still damn good as the story and acting is still great.

Well it was that time of year again. Bfest @ Northwestern! As usually the 24 hours b movie fest ran from Friday 6pm to Saturday 6pm. I didn't go for the first part but I did come this morning at 9am for Lepus. Overall watched a few decent movies.

Night of the Lepus - 2/5 - Giant killer rabbits attack a town. Meh it was decent. Some of the action is pretty hysterical when a giant bunny paw swats a town person down to the ground. I couldn't help myself but notice the worlds worst Words with Friends player sitting infront of me. He spent over 5 minutes trying to put together more than a 2 letter word. UGH!

American Ninja - 3/5 - Michael Dudikoff is a highly talented military personal. Trucks are going missing and the military puts the blame on Dudikoff who is actually a trained ninja. As he uncovers the mystery of the missing trucks he beings to remember more of his past and his ninja upbrining. Pretty funny action. American Ninja has Steve James which is always a plus. Lots of U.S.A chants during the film made it a fun experience.

Skidoo - 1/5 - painfully bad. The only decent moment of the film is the credits which are sung to you in an upbeat tone. It helped that the crowd was clapping to the beat to wake up everyone who died during the movie. Definitely a terrible movie.

Cool as Ice - 4/5 - OH MY GOD ITS VANILLA ICE...without of doubt the highlight of B-fest. Girl ditches boyfriend and starts hanging out with Vanilla fucking Ice who rolls into town with his motorcycle gang. One bike brakes down and needs to be repaired which allows Vanilla Ice to charm a girl. Simply hilarious! You get some 90s hiphop dancing, vanilla ice rapping and obviously some hysterical lines like 'Drop that zero and get with the hero! '. Cool as Ice a must watch.

Mighty Peking Man - 3/5 - a king kong rip off where a young girl is left on an island and rescued by a giant ape who she can control. Peking Man is then shipped to hong kong to be shown off and destruction ensues. The female lead Evelyne Kraft steals the show with her gorgeous looks. For a girl raised by an ape living by herself in a jungle for 10+ years...how does she have lip gloss and foundation on? For those who loved king kong and want to watch a chinese version of the film with some extra B-movie charm via poor bluescreens, check out Mighty Peking Man (Goliathon).

Night of the Lepus was great! Almost as good as The Beginning of the End.

The Last Exorcism - It was good until the end. I have no idea what even happened and it kind of ruined the whole movie.

I waited for this for over a year and was HIGHLY disappointed. I wanted a straight doc on Banksy, or at least on straight street art. I agree it was well shot and high quality, but in true Banksy fashion pretentious and full of affectation.

The A Team (2010) - That tank scene is probably my favorite action scene, ever (other scenes were up there too). Perfect balance of character development (never saw an episode), tone (serious and comedy).

Blue Valentine - Probably one of the most realistic portrayals of love and breakup I've seen. Amazing performances by Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling.

Easy A. It was ok, some funny moments but a bit cheesy overall.

Batman: Under the Red Hood. Pretty good, I'm not a huge fans of comics or animation but I still enjoyed it.

I really liked Under The Red Hood. Gave spotlight to one of Bruce's greatest villains.

The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest - 4/5 - While I prefer it a bit over Played with Fire, I still prefer Dragon Tattoo of the three. Damn good trilogy. Just ordered the entire trilogy on blu-ray.

Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior - 7/10 Enjoyed this one more than the first. Loved how there was less dialogue, making Mel Gibson somewhat tolerable.

Grand Illusion - 9/10 I so want to give this one a 10/10, however it seems to trudge along a bit towards the end. Regardless, great movie.

Sorry to keep the reviews kind of short, but for some reason CAG didn't take my longer reviews.

Inglourious Basterds. Hadn't seen it since the theater (despite getting the Blu-ray in xmas 2009).

Just as great the 2nd time around.

The Social Network

Pretentious assholes makes me feel guilty I gave Facebook 5 page views. I liked the miniature style on the row contest. Had to turn on subtitles for Zuckerberg's actor (fast talker).

I just watched this tonight too. It was pretty good. Too over hyped by my friends though and yea, I had a tough time listening to the "Zuckerberg actor".

The Parking Lot movie - A documentary about parking lot attendants working at the Corner Parking Lot. Seen it on Netflix and just had to see what kind of movie could be about a parking lot. Figured it would be boring as hell but was surprisingly funny and interesting. Almost like a parking lot version of Clerks.

Let Me In. Different enough from the Sweedish version while sticking close to the source material. I love the book, the Sweedish original, and I loved this movie as well.

Eventually I got to pick both movies up on BD.

Caught Black Swan last night, I was floored by how intriguing it had been.
Everything about the movie, from Portman's performance to the way things simply played out had me only wanting more. This is after most people I've asked were either for or against it, so I would say it's one of those love it or hate it films, but I'd even go as far as to say you gotta see it no matter what you've heard to validate your own opinion on the film.

As much as I loved 127 hours and I did enjoy King's Speech and the aforementioned Social Network a great deal, I want the nod for BP to go to BS. Unfortunately, I think the film had been too risque for its own good and most viewers are torn on what to think of it. It was bold, it was new, it was Pulp Fiction in '94, but what had won there was the safe choice for practically all audiences, Forrest Gump. I feel King's Speech has it in the bag this year for that reason. I'm not saying Colin Ferth wasn't great, he was impeccable, yet the film itself just hadn't been as avant-garde as Black Swan.

And I caught The Kids Are All Right months ago, when it first screened in fact, but never really got what all the adoration was about. Somebody clue me in?

The Fighter is next on my watch list.
