Surprisingly the Last Movie You Saw Didn't Suck

Just finished There Will Be Blood...and I must say I was terribly disappointed. DDL tore it up, but the rest of the movie was slow and boring. Almost 15 minutes before any dialogue or actual spoken words really set the pace. I've seen worse but I had my hopes up for this one.

Try 2001 on for size. No dialog for the first and last 20 minutes of the movie, and the rest of the movie is pretty sparse too.

My top 5 Apatow:
Superbad
Anchorman
40 YO Virgin
Knocked Up
Wedding Crashers
Judd Apatow had nothing to do with Wedding Crashers.
And their soulless 3D animated efforts have been utter crap.
What!? Are you referring to Pixar movies or am I missing something here? Because the only one I don't like is A Bug's Life and I haven't seen Meet the Robinsons yet. As for all the others, I think they're pure gold.

Of course not. That's Pixar, which, until recently, was a wholly separate entity from Disney. Disney just distributed their films and had licensing rights until the merger a couple years ago, and even now, Pixar and Disney Animation are still completely separate studios. I am referring to the 3D animated features from Disney Studios proper (Chicken Little, Meet the Robinsons, etc.) Pure dreck.

You must just not get movies that well.

Juno

Really really good. With all the hype I had heard about the movie I was expecting to be disappointed but for once a movie actually lived up to the hype.

8.5/10

Oh yeah? How do you figure? I heard nothing but rants and raves about this movie, but nobody spoke about the pace, flow, dialogue or anything of actual importance in regards to this movie. Like I said, I've seen worse but it didn't turn out to be what I epxected...

Look at Sneaky's post about 2001: A Space Odyssey and figure it out. I hate having to spell things out for people.

Anyway, The Bourne Ultimatum. Fantastic film. Definitely the best in the series. I have only thought that the last two were ok, but this one was excellent. Still, it's a bit high on the Top 250, but definitely a great flick.

I just havent seen any movies lately that did not suck. I watched some movies that I thought would suck and they did (Redline), I've also watched some movies that I thought would be good but sucked (Marie Antoinette), but alas I have not seen any movies that I thought would suck and did not.

Hum...

Oh yeah, and I've seen a couple of average movies too (Vantage Point, Saw IV)

Run Lola Run - having heard great things about the movie I checked it out. It's definitely unique but I don't know if I like it or hate it. I think I need to give some more time to allow my brain to digest what it just encountered and probably follow it up with a second viewing before I pass my judgment.

Appleseed Ex Machina 3/5

Well I pretty much decided to watch this blindly, so the only thing I knew about it was that John Woo directed it. Overall it was pretty good movie. Just don't expect alot in the storyline, but the action was very nice.

Oh, I never knew that Disney had their own 3d studio. Also, I forgot about Monsters Inc. which I don't really care for.

Coincidentally, I watched Ratatouille for the first time tonight and I loved it.

The movie grows on you with time. It's sort of like Apocalypse Now...the first time, the first half-3/4 of the movie is phenomenal, then the Brando stuff happens and it kind of gets a bit weird/wonky. Over time, though, the film definitely grows on you and you start to see it.
Magnolia

Damn that was good.
I'll have to pop that one in tomorrow. I've owned it for the longest time, but just haven't had the inkling to see it. It doesn't help that Tom "Wacko" Cruise is in it either.

You wouldn't know how to spell things out for people even if it came out of your mother along with your ugly fetus...I get the 2001 reference and I say that movie wasn't that great either; dry, boring and dull...

He's amazing in it. I think it's the best thing he's ever done. Really.

Well Cruise has a damn good performance in it. If you're that insistent about focusing on Cruise's real life, well it might actually enhance his performance in the film.

Watched 3:10 to Yuma and was blown away, not even by the plot/acting, but rather the effective rebirth of a dead genre. Never thought a "western" could be that much fun. Russel Crowe was annoying though just being recognizable, any "no-name" actor would've been better. Christain Bale is becoming my new favorite actor.

I think I liked him better in Vanilla Sky.

2001 was awesome, you just can't understand that.

The Battle of Algiers

I'm amazed by how unbiased it was; absolutely flawless.

Went out and saw Forgetting Sarah Marshall last night. I know people on here have been mixed, but I really really loved the movie. I laughed consistently throughout and the casting I think was excellent. All of the bit characters are perfect and anytime you can incorporate 30 Rock cast members in a movie, all the better.

The Graduate - Wow, either this film hasn't aged well or it simply is one of the most over-hyped, over-rated movies I've seen in some time. It's good, the cinematography is nice, but it's nothing what people make it out to be. Mrs. Robinson is great, and the iconoclastic shots still hold up well, but the rest of the movie is just good, not great.

The Counterfeiters (Die Falscher).

Excellent movie. Definitely worthy of the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar.

Atonement- this was very good as well.

Have Juno from Netflix now, will watch it sometime this weekend.

...if you say so. I understand it, but I don't like it. Clearly you don't understand what that means

Maybe I'll try and focus on that aspect of it. I dunno, I don't hate him or anything, it's just all the bat-shit crazy stuff he's done really detracts from him when I see him. Why couldn't he have just kept his mouth shut?

Wow, you're an asshole and an idiot. Thanks for the name calling; I don't usually report unless it's spam, but I think this is enough merit for it. Good trolling and see you later:cool:

Edit: Actually, why give the mods extra trouble; I'll just ignore you you ignorant ass fuck.

Anyway, The Conversation - Definitely dated, but a great performance from Gene Hackman. A lot of interesting concepts you need to read into (i.e. perception versus reality, personal sanity, etc.). It was enjoyable but definitely long. Also, this has an amazing score/music to it. The theme is mesmerizing.

Since when does making a reference to an ugly fetus count as name calling/merit reporting? Pretty sure you're the name caller, but no reporting is needed. I, by no means, am an asshole nor an idiot. I'm also not ignorant...you clearly take things too personal and rely on the awesome power of Mods to clean up your mess the moment your feelers get hurt.

Cloverfield 1/5
Wow, what a misguided attempt at a creature feature. The characters in this film where very forgettable. You know those people that show up in Godzilla films as screaming citizens? They are far more memorable than these banal, GAP-ad-model characters.

I am glad someone agrees with me. I really didn't like that movie for all the little things.

Drillbit Taylor 2/5

It was alright, there were times I laughed, but there were also alot of stupid parts. Overall I think this is one of Aptow's weakest films.

El Topo

I didn't like it quite as much as I did The Holy Mountain, but I still loved it. Jodorowsky is definitely one of my new favorite directors.

Also forgot, watched Juno and Knocked Up with the missus over the past two days.

Street Kings- 3/5 The movie was just average on everything besides the fantastic cast it had.

Harold and Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay- 4/5 Not as good as the first but it definately was better than half the drivel that has been coming out (I'm looking at you Prom Night). NPH was pure money in this movie.

Speaking of Prom Night, can someone explain how that movie grossed $38 million and 21 a little over $75 million? Why do people like watching shitty movies?

3 words

Meet the Spartans.

Explain that one, and you will have your answer.
