Surprisingly the Last Movie You Saw Didn't Suck

Diary of the Dead
6/10

Better than Land but not as good as the original 3. Some of the zombie/human deaths were pretty cool but the thing I hated the most was the main heroes. Main guy was just a douche bag throughout the entire movie and the professor's accent was just horrible.

Into The Wild 5/5

This movie was beautiful, in more then one way. First off, I watched it in HD and it look spectacular, however also the cinematography and the narration was done in a great way. At first, I didn't think I was going to agree with the point of the movie. But then as it went on, I saw that it had a totally different point then the one I anticipated. Overall, it was an excellent movie, simply great.

Carlito's Way: Rise to Power
It's rather painful to watch Jay Hernandez' awkward attempt at imitating Al Pacino's portrayal of Carlito Brigante. Adding to the pain is the film's lack of rhythm and soul when it comes to Carlito's narration. The film comes of as a watered down prequel that doesn't justify its existence in that it does not expound the events in Carlito's past that were mentioned in the original film. We don't get to see how Carlito got busted, how met Gail and Kleinfeld, and we most certainly don't get to see what made Carlito Brigante a name to be reckoned with. Instead we get Jay Hernandez chewing the scenery with his sad Pacino impression and enacting some half-baked plan in his "rise to power."

If this unnecessary prequel isn't insult enough, Luis Guzman appears in the film not as Pachanga, but as some coke-snorting hit man. How in the hell does that even make sense? Why not choose a different actor? Imagine George Lucas had chosen to use Billy Dee Williams in Episode I as Captain Panaka. It would have confused the shit out of people. Bah, this movies fails on so many levels.
Harold and Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay
Pretty good
Yeah, I was expecting it to be a crappy sequel, but it wasn't half bad. Quite entertaining and enjoyable. Not as good as the first, but still solid.

Ya I was expecting all the jokes would be just those in the commercials.
Luckily the funniest parts were not.
Its almost on par with the first, but something was just missing.

The Man Who Wasn't There 4/5

This was a very solid movie from the Coen Bros. I loved the Neo-Noir setting of it, very nice. It had a few far out moments, and the narration was some of the best I have ever seen in a movie. I also enjoyed Billy Bob Thornton in this, he did a great job.

Meet the Spartans.

Explain that one, and you will have your answer.
Don't forget Wild Hogs! What's the worldwide take on that turd up to...something like $400M, I think I read? Ugh.

Never underestimate the buying power of braindead idiots in large groups.

Iron Man!!

It was awesome!!

Is there a official thread for the movie?

Best part & Best line:
Soldier "Is it true you are 12 for 12 with the maximum models last year?" Sark "I missed march, but I made up for it because there were twins in December"

Best part: The Iraqi dudes holding the hostages and he targets them all and kicks there asses with one shot. Pure ownage.
And the fire extinguisher robot arm.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall - had some great moments, good movie
American Gangster- too long but good, the scenes with crowe/washington duo were excellent

Bottle Rocket 4/5

This was a great movie, Wes Anderson really can do no wrong. However, I did feel that the last 45 minutes dragged a bit. However, the last few lines were hilarious.

Just got home from the midnight premiere of Iron Man, and all I can say is

HOLY fuckING SHIT THAT WAS THE BEST GODDAMN MARVEL MOVIE EVER. fuck SPIDERMAN 2, IRON MAN KICKS IMMEASURABLE ASS.

Also, to anyone who goes to see it: DO NOT leave before the credits are over. One of the most important and exciting scenes in the movie (for Marvel fans, anyways) takes place after the credits.

I'm psyched as hell that they're finally starting to put the different Marvel character movies into the same universe, and
they're finally starting to bring S.H.I.E.L.D. and Avengers stuff in (and they're also setting up for an epic Avengers crossover movie, once they do all the individual character movies; and yes, the plan is to use all the same actors from the individual movies. Also, I love they way they set it up for Rhodes to become War Machine, hopefully in the next movie.

It's obvious that the reason they go this so right is because Marvel is producing the movies themselves, now, and it really, really paid off. They nailed this, so hard. It's easily the best, most faithful Marvel adaptation ever. Crowd-pleasing even for non-fans, for sure, but it's so amazingly careful in how it respects all the little details of the world and characters. So, so, so looking forward to the new Hulk, Thor, and Captain America movies.

Harold and Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay
Surprised since: It got a 55% overall on Rotten Tomatoes
My rating: 9/10...4.5 stars
Highlights: Very memorable and well done humor along with an actually interesting plot
My favorite parts:
Mistaking "bong" for "bomb" on the plane, W's hallucinations, the square root of 3 song...

Iron Man

Surprised since: It wasn't your average love fest of a superhero movie
My rating: 9/10...4.5/5 stars
Highlights: Quality "superhero" action, great dialog and witty humor (sorta ties in with dialog)
My favorite parts:
Stark's "interview" leading to being with the interviewer, request for the cheeseburger, when the air force started going against him...only complaint is I didn't understand if people should've been dead at times and came back later

There Will Be Blood

I was going to watch 30 Days of Night next but I figured I should end my Netflix catch-up day on a high note.

Iron Man - people are way overhyping this movie. It's solid, but not untimely great like some make it out to be. It's in the top 250 at the IMDB right now, which is simply an egregious mistake considering what isn't in the top 250. I'm sure it'll straighten itself out, as it usually does.. I didn't care much for the ending (not the one after the credits), and thought it ended on a bit of a weak note. Great directing, though, and the humor was there. Downey Jr. was definitely made to play Stark. The special effects were cool, but come on, if you've seen the trailers, then you've pretty much seen it all. 7-7.5/10

Ironman was decent, and I would recommend it for a fun enjoyable time, and of course stay for the ending, the real ending. I might actually get to see one of my favorite heroes come back if they do it right or at all for that matter.

Recently on cable:Meet the Robinsons and Surf's Up both animated titles and both not as bad as I thought they would be, so if you enjoy animated films both are worth checking out.

Hellraiser 3: Hell on Earth
Iron Man

Hellraiser was shit (big surprise there), but Iron Man was pretty enjoyable. Not the best super hero movie ever, but it was fun.

Dr. Strangelove (Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb)
Hellraiser IV: Bloodline

Watched Dr. Strangelove with the missus, and that movie remains one of my top five ever. Hellraiser, predictably, sucked again.

The Wanderers - Two words: underrated classic. This one was phenomenal. Glad a friend recommended it to me. Very moving and what an excellent ending.

The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou 3/5

I enjoyed this movie alot, however I think it is Wes Anderson's weakest work. It just didn't have as many laugh out loud moments as his earlier work, and some how didn't capture the more serious feel of The Darjeeling Limited. But again, I liked it alot.

I just got done watching Iron Man and I have to say I really liked it. It's at least up there with the early X-Men and Spider-Man films... maybe even better.
Le Samouraï

Twas pretty good, though I don't think it was the best thing ever.
Your opinion is forever invalid... j/k.

Did you read the booklet in the Criterion DVD? That was really good.

I glanced at it, might read it eventually, but more than likely won't.
