Surprisingly the Last Movie You Saw Didn't Suck

Kung Fu Panda. I was expecting every joke to be hokey or fart related. Was not the case. A little short, very predictable, and there needed to be a bigger climax (that's what she said), but overall a really great little show. Had an amazing aesthetic, which is something I don't expect from Dreamworks, since the majority of their stuff is hackneyed bullshit.

Also, the 2D hand drawn animation at the beginning was beautiful. At first I kept thinking "Why didn't you just make the whole movie like this?"

While I still contend that a movie that looked like that WOULD be amazing, it still was a surprise.

But then again, I'd like to see all sorts of different art styles these days. The ending credits of Wall-E would be another good start - 2D pixels all ova the place? Yes please.

German? It was Argento and Lamberto Bava. Second one is also pretty good and the third one was decent for a MST3K experience

speaking of argento. Mother of Tears is one of the few movies that put me asleep. Its a terrible film.

A movie that didn't suck was Die Falscher (The Counterfeiters). Definitely worth a watch since it one an Oscar last year for best foreign film of the year and based on a true story of the biggest counterfeiting project in history. Its a solid 8/10.

I just want to see it because it finishes the trilogy. He honestly hasn't done anything good in the last 20 years (with Opera being the last decent one). And yet I say that, I'm always up to seeing what ever he puts out. His skills have diminished but he still flashes his style once in awhile. Its the only reason that I'm interested in Giallo.
 
Straw dogs - Didn't like it at first but after i had time to think about it, the movie is truly classic.

Definitely maybe - Really nice film with a rather cute story

Forgetting Sarah Marshall - Funny film!

I know Argento is Italian, but I thought it was shot in Germany for some reason.

Edit: According to IMDB.COM Demons was filmed in Berlin, Germany, but I think most of the cast is Italian.

Escape From New York for the first time ever and I thought it was awesome.

Also watched Constantine on TV since I was bored and I think I liked it. I hated it the first time I saw it, but I didn't hate it this time.
 
just finished rendition. pretty weak overall. when i thought the movie was gonna pick up and go somewhere, 10minute later you find out it was actually nothing. 5/10

hmm..the one i watched was over 2 hours long...whatever version it was, it rocked
 
Watched The Host (Korean) and Wanted and Bubba Ho-Tep this weekend.

Host was good but the ending is a bit flat.
Wanted was suprisingly unsucky in every way.
Bubba Ho-Tep was really really really weird but entertaining.

Japanese is 141 minutes, so probably that one (American is 117 minutes). They also royally fucked up the subtitles, and removed a lot of dialog (especially in the ending).

i've seen both, and while they may have cut up the american version, I still don't mind either really.

Agreed 100%. I love that movie actually, and think it's underrated - both by critics and movie watchers/goers.

Also, i saw a movie that was filmed locally, and which I know the guy who wrote, produced, directed, etc. It's called Switch Killer a.k.a. TransAmerican Killer. It's awful in every way imagineable. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0306148/

At least it was entertaining since I now the guy who made.:lol:
 
Last Life in the Universe

As recommended by rabbitt, and, quite separately, another friend. It was a fantastically sad and sublime movie, with a beautiful soundtrack.

According to the opening title, and the DVD cover, it's "Bruce Campbell vs. The Army of Darkness".

You have the version of the dvd that lists it as such.. the blurb in the movie is just to build up its leading star

According to IMDB, my copy of the dvd (oop 2 disc LE), the original dvd release, my movie poster, Maltin's movie review guide and countless other sources... it is simply Army of Darkness... but I can see how you might think differently as it is listed as such on that version of the dvd

... if you liked it, I have to say you have good taste in movies... been a Raimi/ Campbell fan for a long time

Last movie I saw... still trying to complete Shrek the Third, keep falling asleep, crazy as I loved the second, but cant sink my teeth into the 3rd

its the "bootleg" (release #6 I believe) of it from Anchor Bay. Its not their best version of it (which would be the one that came in the tin) but stupid people keep buying each release.

And speaking of Evil Dead, there's a video on Aint It Cool saying what would have to happen for him to do another Evil Dead, which includes giving Sam Raimi 200 million bucks

Which is well worth it

I have a two disc limited one too (with both theatrical and director's cut), and that has the Bruce Campbell vs title. Plus, regardless of what is "right", having it say "Bruce Campbell vs. The Army of Darkness" just sounds infinitely more badass. Fitting for one of the most awesomely badass movies ever.
 
Bruce Campbell vs. The Army of Darkness is the director's cut, hence why it should be referred to as a different title.
 
The movies that sucked?

Don't Mess With The Zohan Crap. I like the older Sandler films...
The Hulk It's okay. There plenty of superhero characters and movies I like more though. Iron Man wasn't that long ago as well and I really liked that one.
Wanted Meh. Waste of money and but better than Zohan.
Over My Dead Body It's a one time watch for comedy.

The Bucket List I just gone done watching this and it was great. The reason I remembered to post in this topic.

The original 2 disc (supposed LE anchor bay release in which only 30000 were made) never refers to this as you said, it even refers to it as AOD : DC right on the disc.... we will agree to disagree on which title sounds better though;)... to me its simply Army of Darkness... thanks to anchor bay for releasing this title 50 million times, thankfully I stopped with the original 2 disc release

On topic... watched The Jerk... classic
 
Into the Wild - Wow, crap on a cracker. I can't believe people bought into this movie. Visually pleasing; beautifully aesthetic, but the overall character and plot are just garbage.

It's just the story of a selfish, self-centered, arrogant, angst ridden, uncaring young man who never owned up and accepted his issues with himself and life. Rather than comign to terms with himself and others around him, the film showcases an "adventure" and makes it seem as though it something which should be emulated, when Chris is merely running away from his problems. Chris can be interpreted as having mental illness, not some great existential, mystic spiritual journey. The movie so wants to be good, but the way it presents its story and it protagonist as worthwhile individuals, while being oblivious to their true faults just makes the film seem mindless. His death should never have been shown as an actual and worthwhile vision quest. Everyone's been screwed over/up by their folks, but that's part of life, but clearly not part of the "Supertramp lifestyle," and doesn't give one any reason to behave the way he did towards his parents, and especially his sister.
