CAGiversary!
How about a thread for those in the Tampa Bay area. Should save looking through massive amounts of threads when you want to pick up a quick game in the Tampa Bay area.

Deals I've found

Polarium 7.48 (10 or so copies left) at the Target at Dale Mabry and 275

Meteos 7.48 (piles, more than 15 left) at the Target at Dale Mabry and Ehrlich/Bearss
Roufuss did you ever find out what ebgames your gonna be working at? I thought I read about that a few pages back.
I didn't take the job... things didn't work out and the manager ended up quitting anyways, she was the only reason I was going to work there since she's the only EB / GS manager I've met with half a brain who is more about customers than sales.

I got to use the discount a few times and that was pretty much it.

Well I put in my applications to all the gamestops/eb game stores tommorrow, 4 of my friends work there but in different cities, if we all get our games together or get the money and open our own store then I will have the inside discount on games to restock our shelves :)

Apparently Rhino is having a huge clearance right now on their old school games... hopefully you guys can get some stuff before the employees do.

I have no interest in old cart based games so you guys have fun ;)

I drove by there at 10:30 to get some old games, but they were closed & I saw all the employees in the dumpster out back. Remember the glass case right as u walk in? It was in the trash, along with all the slim cases that they put PS1 & DC games in. I am going tomorrow to HOPEFULLY find one of the 2 copies of Shining force 2 & Phantasy Star 3 they had on Saturday.

Wish I had not bought those buy 2 get 1 free saturday lol, but there was no way that final fantasy for GB was gonna be there when it hit clearance, will go tommorrow and check out that sale.

Blockbuster has not opened a Gamerush in Hillsborough county because of pawn/trade regulation they dont want to deal with. The Blockbuster next to USF was going to be a Gamerush (Fletcher and BBDowns).

Interbay has bad reviews and word of mouth on the internet. By upsetting me, at the least the business is upsetting one of the bigger gamers in the area. At most Ill file a complaint against the store, but as I said earlier, the owner was cool when I talked to him. He didn't immediately admit his mistake, but if I take him at his word (which I do with people) he did say that it was possilbe that people marked down they called me and didn't call. Getting the PS3 doesnt bother me much, and the deposit isnt a big deal since I make that in less than a night at work. The principle bothers the heck out of me so I either let Suntrust handle it, handle it myself, or take the credit. I rather not have the hassle, but I am a little PO'ed about my money being taken with nothing to show for it. I echoed these concerns to the owner when I was last at the store.

I tend to agree with Roufuss about the rare stuff at Rhino, the employees probably scooped that up right away. I would like a few of the games, but my biggest want had major label damage. Ill check it out, but I am not expecting much, Ill list what is there if I find anything.

I know one of the employees was a major collector / reseller so I'm betting on him grabbing most of the good games.

I dont know, I say we open the store up, get a profit and appear to be a threat to Gamestop and have them buy us out:) It'll be like the Simpsons episode when Homer has the webpage and Bill Gates buys him out for no reason other than he thinks he might be competition, but can't figure out what the webpage does.

I wonder why Gamestop hasn't tried to buy MegaHit games in Ocala. They used to be a chain but are direct competition with Gamestop in the Paddock Mall. They carry everything but are far extremely pricey. Most rares for secondary older consoles (Sega CD, 3DO etc) were well passed Ebay prices. Lunar Silver Star (Sega CD) for example was $100 when I was there (complete).

I also propose that from here on out the Gamestop/EB/Funcoland/Software Etc/Captron/Babbages conglomerate will now be known and referred to as the Evil Empire:)

Not sure if we have any World of Warcraft fans in here but:

Target on Tyrone Blvd has NO Burning Crusade Collector's Edition sets... I don't even think they got them in.

I got the last CE at Wal-Mart on Tyrone.

WoW CE was sold out at Best Buy, they only had enough for pre-orders, and Circuit City only got in FOUR copies that were sold out within 3 minutes. I was number 6.

Wal-Mart on 34th Street South, I couldn't even find any Burning Crusade's so I just assumed they sold out and left.

It seems like all of Saint Petersburg sold out within minutes... good luck to any WoW fans in Tampa Bay who didn't preorder and wanted this.

Yes I agree to call the Gamestop monopoly, the EVIL EMPIRE.
Maybe otherguy, we should just go buy out Interbay lol, he been there for 5 years, so he must have a customer base.

Good idea, Interbay will be ours:) Actually, it is a lucrative location (outside of being a shack, with Macdill AFB right there and no Evil Empire store for miles. With a discount for the military and advertisement in their newspaper along with service to UT, HCC, and USF (on Wednesday during the Bull Market), an independent store in that area could work well. The Interbay owner is at the Hillsborough drive thru Flea Market, however, that doesnt seem to be the right place to outrach to gamers.

Anyways, went to Rhino, not much there. If your looking for rares, they were bought out last night. The employees got their games, and a customer bought the leftovers. I was able to find PTO II, TMNT Hyperstone Heist, Batman Return of the Joker, and TMNT Tournament Fighters. The employee searched on the computer for in stock RPGs that I asked about (consisting of just about every Atlus game and Square/Enix/Sega RPGs and Konami games). They were all out. They havent started $2 games yet, and the PSOne/N64 games werent out yet. I expect Friday/Saturday to be the rollout, but that is just my guess as the employees didnt know that.

Everyone keep in mind there is a Rhino in Zephryhills, its a bit of a ride but you may be able to find stuff there. And if you go, pick me up something:)!

Wagonwheel FTW if you want a flea market that a ton of gamers go to. A guy I know built up such a loyal following with his saturday / sunday booth that he opened his own store and those same people (myself included) followed him there.

In the end, he picked a really horrible out of the way location and never advertised, so other than his regulars only little kids would trade in there.

I wonder if anyone here will fess up to cleaning out the Rhino ;) (And nope, wasn't me, I'm done with games for now because I'm about to start up Burning Crusade tonight :D )

I hope it was the employees or a non lurker CAG (if you lurk, please contrubute). Now since they are Evil Empire workers or lost there jobs, they earned it. Roufuss, the $1 games guy at Wagon Wheel, is that who your talking about. I got about 50 games (about 15 of them were sports games that were in a box with others) and 5 consoles from him one day for $15. He used a digitpress book and was great to talk to. He disappeared the next week and Ive traveled back a few times just in hope of finding him.

Oh... yea it might have been him, he had a huge sale at the Wagonwheel a few months ago where he clearanced out a ton of stuff. His name was Mike, he called himself the Apeman, he used that sale to sell off the rest of his inventory. He was pretty tall, pretty ripped, had a goatee?

His store was very awesome, but he got in games like a week late and the kids traded in bad stuff. I remember once I bought Suikoden 2 at EB for like $50 or whatever, and sold it to him for $50 just so he could have something rare to bring in some customers.

The dude was very awesome... he left the wagonwheel because the owner started giving him a hard time for some reason so he stopped setting up the booth. He runs a karate business and, from what I remember last, it's really taken off.

I used to give him a ton of business.

So are the funcoland games marked down to $1.99 as I saw post earlier? I called and they answered gamestop, and they said wow, that memo is already on the internet, and he said only the games being traded in this week would be $1.99 not the stuff they had from before.

This is a long shot, but...do you know if his full name was Mike Price?
You wouldn't happen to know if his full name was Mike Price, would you?
Yea, that's him.

Are you him?

No, games seem to be $5, $8, and $10 (non sports) BOGO. It was decent, although, nothing you cant really find at pawn shops or thrift stores. Unless you are really hurting for a game, like I was for Genesis Batman Return of the Joker, then your really just going to another Gamestop that just happens to have old games. Now if the $2 sale starts, then thatll be worth the trip. I will call Friday to check, as by then, I expect the store to be set up and for them to want to have shelf space for all the current and last gen games.

I did find a Super Mario World for SNES (cart only) at a Goodwill for $1. I am trying to find cheap games to sell on ebay to raise enough money in Paypal to buy Castlevania Rondo Of Blood or Snatcher. My goal is to spend no more than $50 out of pocket for each of these games.

Forgeot to mention that I got my Neo Geo MVS cabinent last week. Guy replaced the screen, cleaned up the cabinent, cleaned the motherboard, switched out the buttons and joystick, and a whole bunch of other work. Dude is awsome and I ended up playing Samurai Shodown 4 and Fatal Fury Special for hours. There is nothing like playing a fighting game on a arcade cabinet. Outside chance of me doing a King of Fighters 02 or 03 tournament if I ever find a MVS cart cheap enough (have a offer on one now), even though I have it already on XBX. Anyone interested if I make this happen?

Well, we've gotten used to the "extra warm" tap water, 3-eyed fish, and glowing babies jokes. Besides, we make a fortune working at the plants.

FYI: Theres like 5 power plants in that complex. One nuclear, 2 coal burners, and 2 fuel oil burners. Horribly inefficient, but they were planned back in the Carter administration, so go figure.

Far as games go, there really isn't many deals unless the local pawn shops have a clearance for their "friends". There's an EB here at the mall, but they don't have to compete with anyone.

Usually I drive to Ocala for game deals, or when I visit my loved ones in Atlanta, I clean up on sweet deals in Norcross. Theres a Fry's, Best Buy, Circuit City, MicroCenter, and an EB's all in the same neighborhood, so they have about the cheapest deals in the whole country! Plus a few exits south on Jimmy Carter Blvd there's a row of "mom n pop" computer part stores packed together, making for fierce competition and cutthroat deals on usually overpriced components like video cards, memory and processors.

GinStar Computers usually wins the fight in case you're wondering.

Has anyone played MADDEN for the Wii?

As much as I hate madden football, this is actually quite fun, I rented it from blockbuster for free since I rent their movies online.

If anyone is interested and wants to have a Madden Wii tournament let me know, I will buy it, if enough people wanna enter. Prize would be whatever everyone paid to enter minus the cost of the game rental lol
Yea, that's him.

Are you him?
Heh, I reworded my question to sound better, but was too late. Of course I'm not him, then I'd know the answer. ;) However, he was in my crowd in high school (full disclosure: I'm old). The description you gave sounded a lot like him, so I asked on a hunch. Mike was a really cool guy, but I haven't talked to him in years. I've seen his name around a lot recently because he's always fighting in local and regional martial arts tournaments, and I see the fight advertising flyers at asian restaurants. I think his school is over on Central Ave. around 66th street; I'm glad to hear that it's doing well, he deserves it. I really need to go look him up sometime. :D

Yea, for awhile his school was small time, and he was doing the video game thing every Saturday and Sunday at the Wagonwheel.... he was doing great business there. Eventually, he decided to branch off into his own store, which lasted about... six months I think?

It was a combination of bad trade-in's, late product, no advertising, and then his karate school started taking off in a big way so he started hiring these doofus kids to work there who cared more about playing games then running the store. Eventually, he closed the store to work on his karate school the whole time because it started getting bigger while the video game store got smaller.

I'm not sure if he's at the 66th Street location anymore... I think he moved someplace even bigger. Awesome to hear he's doing fights and stuff, I always wondered what became of him, he was definitely a stand up guy and he was always down to talk about games and all sorts of stuff. But yea, lately it seems he's doing really successful for himself and he totally deserves it.

Martial Arts schools seem to be the big thing these days. My friend Justin runs a school in Pinellas county, and he has two friends from the area who he works with.

Of course, working at the plant no doubt leads to endless Homer Simpson jokes. ;)

This will get me banned I am sure, but I just came home from Interbay,
I told him about the information I have read on here, and he gave me the truth.

The charges against him are completly false and were made up by his brother in law, who he caught stealing boxes of computer equipment that was suppose to be shipped to customers. The owner was going to have him arrested but before he could the brother in law made up the story about his daughters.

As anyone with sense would know, if he actually did any of the charges he would be in jail not running around free running a video game store.

Also as for being a shack, I saw the store, doesnt look like a shack, it looks smaller inside then from the outside, the back half of the store is / was being used as an arcade area for video game tournaments.

As I have seen no one has actually been to this store on here, but otherguy.
He has been in business over 5 years now, so he must not be doing anything wrong to begin with.

I asked him about the preorders, he said everyone has either gotten their ps3 or gotten store credit. I couldnt ask about otherguys since, I doubt he put the reserve in his otherguy name. I asked him if everyone has been called and he said according to his employees they have been and if they havent been called have they called him?

I asked him about ignoring customers and playing video games, he said he has had many employees who he has fired over the years for not doing their jobs.
And if anyone had told him about any problems he would have given them store credit for future purchases.

Even otherguy said he had good stuff in there, and the owner wasnt giving him any problems.

Hope I dont get banned, but I didnt want to see anymore false information on here, about the last non gamestop.

While I disagree with the description of the place from the outside (although the Super Mario Painting is cool), I echo Monkeyballers sentiments on the owner being a pretty decent guy. However, I have not been called, I wouldnt have any ground to stand on if I had. I've called four times(!) and visited once since the preorder. That is my only beef with the store. When I post about the store, I post about my personal experiences and have been truthful about the store and my experiences, never insulting the owner. I would love to give positive word of mouth and support and independent gamestore, problem is that Interbay has not fullfilled any promises to me. I have friends that have visited the store and given me mixed reviews, however, none of these friends will go back because of my experience. Word of mouth is the best form of advertising, it can hurt the worst though if its negative. I would like to thank Monkeyballer for visiting though, do they have any PS3 games there? If so, maybe I would convert my $100 to credit, buy those, and be done with the ordeal.

He had about 5 different PS3 games, and 5 different Wii games left. Had alot of new 360 games. Also had a sign about winter clearance 50% off. Wasnt there to shop, but I ended up buying some gamecube games for my wii.

Cool, I may go down next week with a friend and have him pick out a game for his birthday, and Ill kill the credit.

This forum is getting a lot of posts today:)

I dont know, negative word of mouth from the existing business would hurt any store in that location.

If I were to open up a game store, hypothectically speaking, I would like it more in a more accessible area. The Macdill business must be pretty good, but it is only a matter of time until a Evil Empire store opens up there. The USF area has 2 gamestops already and it would seem the only safe place to open a store in the area would be in a centralized area of Tampa, or the Land O' Lakes area where the only competition is Gamerush and that upper income families are moving to by the Hillsborough/Pasco county line.

Wow, didnt know brothers in law can just get people arrested for grand theft, sexual battery of a minor, and other reasons. Must have some close connections with the cops.

Or it could be the same Kool-Aid that he offered when he said he was getting 25 PS3's in while making you sign a binding contract.

Trust me, its the jewish instict for him to try and protect his name to get you to spend money. Though i do find it kind of wierd that he could be arrested so many times and supposedly never convicted.

The grand thefts were because the brother in law stole the boxes of computer parts that were suppose to be sent for customers, thats where the grand thefts cames from, every time your arrested the same charges are booked against you until the charges are taken care of.

And as you clearly stated that its really strange he never was convicted of any of it, so lets move on, he obviously never did anything wrong to begin with.

Went to the Zeph. rhino today. They had some very good PS1 & DC games left. Lemme know how I did. I got:

DC:
Dead Or Alive 2 (complete, non-GH, F***ed up manual) $9.99
Grandia 2 (complete), free
Sould Caliber (complete, non-GH) 8.99
Resident Evil 2 (complete) free

PS1:
FF Chronicles (FF4 & Chrono Trigger, complete) $17.99
FF9 (complete, non-GH) Free

All prices are AFTER the 10% more card discount. Some other rare PS1 games I left were Ogre Battle limtied edition, FF Chronicles (FF1 & 2), Rapshody, and Street Fighter 3D. They had a box of SNES games that I saw them take to the back & were going thru, other than that, no rares there. Only 3 NES game left, nothing good. No rare Genesis either. No N64 at all, for some reason. The system prices were $14.99 for DCs (2 left), $12.50 for PS1s (3 left), & i heard them say that on Sat. All their PS1, DC, ect. acessories will b $5. Toys were also marked down, but with my LOTR & SOnic collections, i ain't got no room for em.

You did good on those sega dreamcast games. Very good indeed, were you able to use your eb/gamestop discount card and get 10% as well?

That might make me go to citrus park, I highly doubt it tho.

Those dreamcast system prices are remarkably low as well.
You did good on those sega dreamcast games. Very good indeed, were you able to use your eb/gamestop discount card and get 10% as well?
yes, I was able to use it. Except for the sign outside, they were completly GS. The reciept paper even had GS/EB on the back. I was also able to use a $15 GC I got for christmas. I am going to head over to the Citrus one tomorrow just to c if they have Crazy Taxi 2 or MvC.

Thats really strange that they have gamestop signs, but according to gamestop/ebgames.com they are listed under the store finder as FUNCOLAND but answer their phones as gamestop. Wonder whats up with that?

Finally made it to the Gunn Rhino, only to find out that they had 1 rare Genesis game left. They hadn't even put out the PS1 games yet, which kinda sux. Doubt they have FF7 tho. I just grabbed Phantasy Star 3 (cart) for Genesis & Quake 3 for DC for $9.69.

Yet another good deal on that Quake 3 for DC, if you had the network adapter you could play it online, do not know how many people would be playing it with you, i Def would but i sold my network adapter on ebay for $250, still have the quake game tho.

Did they have any other decent DC games - fighters, RPGs, that sort of thing?

I'm trying to dump a bunch of Xbox 360 games, dont really want EB/GS credit, and i do plan on spending a lot of $ in the next month at Suncoast/FYE. Anyone know of any FYE's that know how to run this Brown-Bag 45% extra trade in credit deal?

The old fart at the Citrus Park location doesnt know how it works (he says its just an extra 20% if you choose to get store credit only; and even though its a Transworld-wide sale, the rules that apply to Suncoast & Sam Goody dont apply to them because theyre "owned by different people" ). So im hoping someone can point me towards an FYE that gives the 45%.

I went to Sears last night in Brandon Mall and saw that Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy was $29.99. The clerk scanned it and said that it was $49.99, but I said look at the price on the tab that clearly stated "360 Lego Star Wars $29.99" so he had a manager override and give it to me for $20 less...they then took the price sticker off and fixed it with the new price. So if you are in Sears at any of the other locations, check it out. Of course YMMV.

Does anyone know if CC and BB and Targets in our areas are getting Wii's in for sure. IM camping out again so hopefully they dont release them early like last time
Does anyone know if CC and BB and Targets in our areas are getting Wii's in for sure. IM camping out again so hopefully they dont release them early like last time
They are all in the ad for the 21st, they are REQUIRED to have them on the 21st, so they are holding them.

I heard or read on here, CC has a $40 off coupon for over $199.99 purchase, so the wii will be $209 plus tax if you have that coupon with you.

I got a wii today at CC. I was 6/6. They didnt accept the scan they only accepted the usps coupon. Also they had a stack of ps3's(lol) if you wanted one....Tyrone store

Welp, ive given up on FYE. Seems there the only Transworld store that doesnt know how to run deals. Just wish we had a Strawberries, Specs or Wherehouse here. At least Suncoast knows how to do it, shame they dont take games in.
