Original Target Clearance Thread

Since the Target deals are usually of the "your mileage may vary" type, let's keep all the target clearance deals in this thread.

Here is a fairly easy way to check if your local Target has the games on clearance without making the store clerk unlock the display case and price-scan a bunch of games. Very often, games may be on sale, but will not be marked as such.

BigDirty came up with this nice time saver. Respect his cheap ass skills.

1) Check this thread for games that have been reported on clearance.

2) Go to www.half.com, http://bits.com/ or similar website and search for the game to locate its UPC code number. Its in the grey box underneath the box art graphic.

3) Go to www.schworak.com/upc/ , www.milk.com/barcode/ , or www.upcdatabase.com and enter the code so you can print out the UPC.

4) Go to Target and use the price scanners to scan your printouts and search for cheap ass deals!

FYI: "When a game's price ends with 8 cents, further reduction is possible, when it ends in 4 cents, that's the ball game, pick it up cause it's not going any lower. If it ends in 9 cents, it's just on sale or on a non-clearance reduction." - BigDirty

This thread is for Clearance deals, not sale items or raincheck "scams"
Please Post City, State and Store (If City has many stores), game, system and price

Keep extraneous discussion to a minimum, as posts not pretating to clearance deals may be deleted by the mod crew.

As always-- YMMV

Example:

Philadelphia, PA Snyder Plaza
BigDirty's Wild Ride, XBox, $4.98

*Thanks to CheapyD and BigDirty for the info*

Still waiting on Mortal Kombat: Deception for the Cube to go down... $20 bucks and it's mine, can't wait to play as Goro and Shao Kahn.

A few weeks ago it was still holding at 27.98, hope it finally took the plunge.

To the guy a few posts up who organized that list, I've seen Ghost in the Shell for 4.98... I passed though, since I had no real interest in it, it's probably gone now.

Was going to grab Fire Emblem and maybe Castlevania today but the GBA games were completely picked over aside from a half dozen Metroid Zero Missions. Unfortunately couldn't get my printed Wavebird barcode to scan, I probably should have just taken in the one off the package but I didn't think about it. On the upside I grabbed the last Halo 2 headset, a pretty nice first party DS case for $2.50, and a pair of GBA wireless adapters for $6.50 a pop. Might ebay 'em or trade 'em if someone wants them, I really have no use and were more of a compulsive buy.

PMed you wanting to know which Target stores in the area you hit. Thanks!
heres hoping they have shadow hearts when I go tonight
Oh yeah, guess it's time to make the weekly Monday rounds of Target tonight. Doubt anything dropped though, as Two Towers (bought) and FF: CC (passed) just had their drop last week. I'm biting on FF when it gets

Woot!

It dropped to 19.98 when I went today... this Target had about 10 copies at 27.98, now it only had one copy in plain view, and two that I found that were hiding. It's amazing what an 8 dollar price drop can do. Sadly, the two copies of Ghost in the Shell were both gone, they were 4.98 last time I was there, probably even less now.

I got a feeling the employees got them, because sadly all the clearance tags were actually up to date, which means it will be that much harder finding these games when everyone knows the right price =/

Yeah it sucks when they update the prices :D. There's nothing quite like the feeling of taking that $9.98, or even better, untagged game, and having it scan at $2.48! That happened to me with Strike Force Bowling and Pinball Hall of Fame the other day...

By the way Roufuss, if you can find another Ghost in the Shell it is a good game to trade at GR - gets $15 or so.

An interesting note about price drops and the store scanners. I have a sheet with a few UPC's that I check - Wavebirds, Bongos, Fire Emblem, Shadow Hearts Covenant, and a few others. Last night I was in a Target and over half of them wouldn't scan. I wonder if this was because they were preparing for an update on those particular items? This has happened before and a few days later the items do scan (so they weren't cleared out of the system). In fact, several normal items that I scanned last night weren't scanning either.

I know Fire Emblem and Shadow Hearts Cov. were two of the items that did not scan - so it will be interesting to see if there were drops on those today. The Wavebird and Bongos did scan, though, so I'm less hopeful about another drop on those.

things seem to have stagnated around here this week. I checked a bunch of things and they were the same price as last week or the week before that at all the stores I checked(Fire Emblem, Megaman Anniversary Collection, GBA ---> GCUBE cable, Wario Ware Zelda). Maybe things will go better next week.

I did manage to score the following at one store as they finally dropped.

$7.48
NGC Donkey Konga Drum
NGC Wavebird x 2

$12.48
XBX Halo 2 Headset

The Wavebirds were the last two grey ones and were unmarked($20.98 last week, unmarked). There were still two or three drums left so I think I might go back for another. Also they had a mad catz live controller for $9.98 which I might get to complement the Halo headset, but I don't really need it so I'm not sure.

BTW, they just put a lot of media storage items(CD Holders, DVD towers, etc.) on clearance, not sure if anyone needed any dvd shelfs.

Another solid find at the Mayfield Target... got the only copy of Second Sight that appeared out of nowhere for $7.48 (never seen this game at that store in the past 6 months). FF: CC still $14.98, Third Age for $9.98 (why did I waste my $10 Overstock coupon on that? Moral = never buy a game that is MSRP, no matter how many price drops have occurred... it will always be available for around 10 dollars before you unseal it.

Anyone else have nothing but GC stuff on clearance anymore? Few random GBA games on a shelf tagged, but otherwise its just half a dozen GC games. Hell, even the Wavebirds have been restocked without the clearance tag (though they might just be unmarked... five or so sitting around, I'll check next time I'm over). Seems like XBox should be the one getting the massive clearances since it'll be outdated in 2 months. Though some (not me! ;)) would argue the GC has been outdated for 4 years.

Edit: Oh yeah, NWN Platinum is down to $19.98, still too much since all I need is the HoU expansion. Thought about going to the Univ. Hts Target today, but I think I'll head over there later this week. Not much competition for clearance items over at that one.

I've seen Second Sight at 3 or 4 Targets in the last week at that price. I'm waiting for it to go lower :D.

I agree on the MSRP issue. I managed to get LOTR 3rd Age at Gamerush when they had the 30% off new Nintendo games sale - so I got it for $14 in GR credit, which is not bad. But I know I'll be able to pick one up for $5 at Target soon :D.

I have seen mostly GC games on clearance as well. Also, it seems many Target's are remodeling and expanding their game cases (making them an entire aisle - both sides, instead of just the one side like now). I was in a few over the last few days where they were in the process of moving games into the new cases. At these particular Targets they had almost NO clearance games - almost like they got rid of that stuff while "cleaning up".

So, people have gotten Wavebirds and Bongos for $7.48, eh? When I scanned those last night they still rang up $14.98. At one Target in VA last week they were still $20.98 - but unmarked so maybe when I get back there in a few weeks I'll be able to get one cheap.

I did manage to adjust my $20.98 Fire Emblem to $14.98. Now, I've never done this twice, but if it drops again I will give it a shot - guess I need to use the second receipt for that :D.

I picked up a network adapter for $17.98.. not the price I expected, but I bought it anyway, hoping I can find it cheaper at another target.

Anyone know if I can price adjust it at a different target?

I see no reason why not. You can take things back to other stores, and I've had prices adjusted at different BB's and CC's. So I'm sure Target would be the same, especially if they are as great as was mentioned about handling returns/adjustments.

well they didnt have shadow hearts covenant at my target, I might just suck it up and go to my other target but my ex girlfriend works there and she creeps me out, maybe i'll just resort to buying on ebay.

Can she get you an employee discount? ;)

I havn't been keeping up with this thread for awhile but i went to my local target in Miamisburg OH today and they actually had some games tagged with a red clearance sticker. I know they didn't do this before, but they had viewtiful Joe 2 $9.98 and Soul Calibur 2 $9.98 along with some others.

I could probably have her buy it for me but then I would need to talk to her much longer than I would want to.

Jack shit at 2 local targets. Was lookin extreamly hard for a halo headset. Where do they have these? Are they at the end of the lanes at electronics, locked up, or hanging with the accesories? (Searched everywhere except in the case)

At least at mine they were hanging right with the controls and things like that. I think people have been scooping them up since they dropped to $12.50 though.

I picked up Hearts of Iron II on PC for 9.98 today... down from 13.98 last week. If anyone sees this drop again, I'd like to hear about it... might have them do an adjustment. Looks like a pretty nice game... good rating at IGN. Tucking it away for the hubby for Christmas.

I stopped in two Targets today - both have been redesigned... so they have an aisle and a half of glass cased gaming stuff now. Almost no console/handheld games on clearance. No grey wavebirds... just platinum. They did have two sets of Bongos at 14.98 each... if only that included Donkey Konga ;)

The did have a fair amount of computer games and software on clearance.. off the top of my head, I recall a SPlinter Cell two pack of some sort for 14.98, CSI Miami 9.98, Black hawk Down two pack 9.98 (I think), City of heroes 14.98... a lot of discount 9.99 software was 6.98 - I really didn't think that was enough of a drop for most of it. This was all at the Target at Union and Academy... the one further South on Academy had squat - don't bother!

Can anybody tell me what the rules are as far as price adjustments? Within how many days of your date of purchase do you have to do it? 14? 30? Thanks :D

Ash

im going to be hitting the Fort wayne Targets today... I post if anything has fallen or if anything is left.... They had like 10 copies of GHOST In the shell for 4.99 last week so i doubt they do another price drop this week

Hit up Target last night and picked up:

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within - Cube, $14.98 before employee discount.
Soul Calibur II - Cube, $9.98 before employee discount.

I was glad to find these two...there are hardly ever any Cube titles on clearance in my neck of the woods.

Well, trying to set up my PS2 network adapter, I've found a new reason to hate AOL.. these fuckers charge a monthly fee of $4.95 to play my ps2 online. I'm like "what the fuck? Fine, I'll pay the damn fee. I just want to play some madden." Then I find out one more thing: they don't even have a way to allow AOL broadband users to play online - it's only allowed for dialup and DSL subscribers. WHAT THE fuck. Stupid fuckers. I would use dial up, but after thinking about it.. it's fucking dialup. I'm not paying an extra $4.95/month so I can play online with a slowass dialup connection.

What a waste of my $18 for the network adapter. Being the dumbass I am, I opened it before I figured out how stupid AOL can really be, and now I can't get my money back.

That stinks man, sorry to hear that.

Just one more reason why NOT to have AOL.

Heh.. yeah, I edited the post to do some more ranting. Yeah, AOL sucks, but oh well. My family also goes on the internet, and I'm not the one paying for it. Gotta love the benefits of living at home as a brokeass college student.

You could always sell it on EBay or sell it here if you don't want it because of the AOL fee. I despise AOL but I have had it for 7 years and everyone I know who would contact me online knows me at that e-mail name. What I really hate is how they used to have a $4.95 plan for 3 hours of dial up which was a great way to keep my AOL name and have a few hours of dial up to use in case broadband wasn't working and I really needed to get online. Now they got rid of that plan.

Yeah, I'll think about trying to resell it here, but I'm having a hard time trying to sell a few other things right now. It's hard to sell/trade when you are a first time seller/trader and you don't have any feedback.

If anyone wants it, let me know. I could use the money for my traffic ticket.

I looked at PC games at the Bridgewater, NJ Target and found Doom3: Resurrection of Evil (PC) for $9.98. I passed on this game this summer during the CC sale but decided to finally pick it up (I have a $5 Pricegrabber rebate form for it). Freedom Fighter (PC) was $9.98, not $4.98 at this Target. They were all out of FF vs TTR. This Target seems prerrty good about applying red clearence sticker to the PC games.

Here in SC I can say that the 3 Targets I've been to either didn't have the Halo2 Headset at all (Greenville) or it was still priced at $25 (Anderson, Columbia).

$25 is just too much for this, seeing as I already have a decent headset. That's probably why they still have them, though.

The Targets in the Portland area that I visit seem to have JACK SHIT. I know DigitalSpace and I frequent them and find nothing. Maybe it's you lurky lurky loos here on CAG that take all the good stuff! I don't look for much, like a Vampire the Masquerade game, Neverwinter Nights, Metroid... It makes a girl sad. Except this girl likes the other clearance and finds nice stuff like clothes, but I'd still like to buy a clearance game from time to time.

Congrats all you lucky bastards!

I find the occasional thing in the Portland area (I hit Wilsonville and Sherwood often), but must admit I find much better deals at Targets in the DC area when I am travelling for work.
Mega Man Anniversary Collection for Gamecube $14.98 as of today.
Except it hasn't been in stock at my Target for months. There are hardly ever any Cube games left in stock by the time clearance prices kick in.

Looks like things are slowing down. The platinum Wavebird is no longer clearanced (though I'm somewhat convinced that the one I got for $14.98 was supposed to be gray, and no more gray were in stock to check). Same old GC games clearanced, still waiting on Two Towers to drop again.

But, one good thing: Chaos Theory for PC is tagged at 14.98. Screw getting the GC version now, same price now, and Target clearance will drop a lot faster than console retail prices.

The platinums were marked incorrectly. Only the gray ones were supposed to be clearanced. Good thing they still gave it to me since it was tagged wrong.

Picked up the DK Bongos for $7.48.

Area 51 (PC) $14.98
there is nothing in waco, texas.
That's very true. Now what's this have to do with the Target clearance sale?

OK, today I hit the first snag with a return/repurchase clearance price adjustment. I know they CAN do it, because I've done it a few times. But today I finally found a Target selling the Wavebirds for $7.48 (they didn't have any of course - I have a printed UPC for it). They said they couldn't adjust or return/repurchase. They said the item would have to go back out on the floor, and I'd have to "find it" later. They did say that the store that I bought it at had one more in stock.

So, fine, I wasn't going to head there today but I went anyway. Well, not only did they not have one in stock, but my UPC scanned at $14.98 there! So I couldn't even try the price adjustment there.

By the way, I have a receipt from my Shadow Hearts Covenant adjustment - they simply did a return, and on the same receipt a purchase - I was credited with the difference. So unless the policy has changed in the last week or so...

Anyway, a wasted trip except that I did find a Mario Party 4 for $9.98. They had them several weeks ago for $13.98 and I wanted to wait - then they were all gone for weeks. Maybe they had a return or found one in the back. Meh - anyway, saved it from being a total wasted trip :D.
Picked up a ps2 network adapter for 8 bucks as well as a wireless optical mouse for 8 bucks.
The adapter's still $25 near me. There's 2 left, I hope they last for another couple drops.:)
