League needs a reboot since 3 teams have dropped out and 3 others have yet to play 1 game. Please only join if you can find 10 minutes a week to play. If players choose the same teams, their scores/results will carry over from the last league to the new league. You can pick a new team but the score/result will carry over. You can only choose a team that has been given up on. This should be a 20 team league.

Steelers and Broncos are up for grabs.

I am switching from the Giants to the Cowboys.

Playoffs will be based on the exact format of the NFL Playoffs as of 1993. 3 Division Winners and 3 Wild Cards. The top two seeds get first round byes. 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5.

Tie breaker rules for seeding in case of same record. 1st Tie breaker is head to head. 2nd tie breaker is point differential. (Team A scored 200 points gave up 150, team b scored 180 and gave up 160 than team A gets the higher seed), 3rd tie breaker is most points for the season.

Tie breaker for the 6th seed. If two teams are tied after the regular season for the last playoff spot than they will play a 1 game playoff for the final spot. 3 or more teams and it's round robin. Same rules applies if the last 2 playoff spots 5 and 6 are tied by 3 teams or more. I just do not know the skill level of the players in the league and there could be a bunch of 8-8 teams. Final playoff teams do not get to back in based on stats.

NT glitch will not be tolerated. Please report any experience of the other team doing it. 1 game gets a warning. Anything more than that and it's an automatic forfeit for each game done.

March 2, 2010 - We've known Tecmo is bringing its classic football game, Tecmo Bowl, to Xbox Live Arcade for quite some time. But we've been lacking specific details on the revival until today. Tecmo Bowl Throwback will be available on both Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network this spring. This is actually a remake of the Super Nintendo version of Tecmo Bowl, appropriately-titled Tecmo Super Bowl. Fans will find the classic game they recognize with some modern upgrades and will have the choice whether to play with updated 3D graphics or the 2D original look.

Online tournaments can be held over Xbox Live or the PlayStation Network. Tecmo says there will be 32 customizable teams but makes no mention of using the NFL license, so it sounds like you'll have to create your hometown team if you want to play them.

This seems... ok. I wish they just ported the NES Tecmo Super Bowl, the SNES was ok, but not as good.

Online play and stuff make this a definite purchase though.

I almost feel kinda bad for that Backbreaker football game that is coming out. Not that it would have sold well anyway...but now it DEFINITELY won't, haha.

I'd be in (and suck, if madden is any indication  ).

I remember having fond days of playing the NES version. Never touched the SNES version though. Now somebody just needs to have a sale on points, and we'll be good to go.

tecmo super bowl for the NES rocked. I rented the tecmo super bowl for the SNES and it was ok. Id be sold pretty much

Yeah, I'd definitely want to do a league with this. And since the teams are fully customizable, I say we make them based around pop culture. No real teams allowed. Theme your team around a movie, TV show, band, concept, anything. I just think it would be hilarious to see what people come up with. Although I also wonder how they're going to handle censoring. But if they're not going to have the NFL license, they've gotta let you see other people's creations online. It would be too boring otherwise. Anyway, between this and UFC 2010, I may never need another game ever again, lol.

Why the fuck didn't they knock off the NES version?!!?! Starting with the SNES/Genesis, Tecmo started trying to make the game slightly more "realistic," destroying the arcadey play-style, culminating in the embarrassing PSX version.

Tecmo Super Bowl I on the SNES plays like the NES, just with slightly better graphics and no sprite flickering.

Will this game have team/player names? Tecmo Bowl is on the Wii Virtual Console and it totally sucks without the player names.

No NFLPA license no sale for me. And really we should be talking about Tecmo Super Bowl for the NES...THAT is the game you want.

Yeah, but you can't expect them to reacquire the NFL license for a small game like this. The fact that they're letting you customize the teams is good enough. I liked playing with Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders as much as anybody, but it wasn't the names that made the game great.

I also would have preferred the NES version, but the differences are so small that if done correctly, there won't be anything wrong with this game. They just have to translate it well to today's controllers.

I'm not concerned about arcade vs. NES, I'm talking Tecmo Bowl vs. Tecmo Super Bowl.

I realize that reacquiring the NFL license for this game might be difficult considering the age of the game but it really does make a difference for me and since I've bought it once and realized that I wasn't having as much fun I'm sure to not make that mistake twice.

I don't know about you but I often would decide which offensive and defensive players to pick based on the names.

I recalled the SNES one not being as good for some reason. Hell, I still play the old NES one on some of those websites with the embedded flash player. Just keep it simple. 8 plays, 2 buttons.

Customize the names of the players and use online? I'm in.

But this IS NOT the original Tecmo Bowl. That game on the NES had real players but not real teams (and only had 12 teams). When they brought it to the Wii, they didn't have the NFLPA license so they couldn't use the player names anymore.

The game they're bringing to Xbox Live is Tecmo Super Bowl for the SNES. What many people are talking about is the preference of the NES version of Tecmo Super Bowl over the SNES version. Those games had both real players (except for certain ones who held their own licenses) and all of the 28 teams from the time. The new game, however, will have 32 customizable teams and customizable players.

The reason this game won't have the NFL or NFLPA license is 1. because it would cost a shit ton of money, and 2. because EA purchased the exclusive rights to those licenses 5 years ago. I understand your point about using players that you know, but there was a stat system that showed you who was good at what. I don't understand how anybody couldn't be happy about this news.

OH! Well hell, I guess I know very little about this release after all. Being able to customize the teams will allow me to name them as I like so I'm back on board!

Also, this is probably why they're going with the SNES version:

Tecmo Super Bowl: A Super Nintendo and Sega Mega Drive\Genesis version of Tecmo Super Bowl was released in 1993, which fixed many bugs and added some new features. New features included: improved graphics and sound, NFL team logos were added to the end zones, user-controlled touch backs, play books could be edited during the game, weather conditions (normal, rain, snow), and an automatic "dive play". Fifteen-minute quarters were made possible for preseason and Pro Bowl modes. The game also provided the ability to play three consecutive seasons (1991-1993).

I'm assuming even though the game will have 32 teams they won't have an option for two-point conversions since that was not allowed back when the game came out.

See, I knew nobody could be down on this. It's just unhuman. :)

yeah but all that new junk didn't make the game better, IMO.

the SNES one was cool, but it isn't the NES version... which was way better.

It just sucks that EA is hogging the NFL license. I know it's an arcade game, but real players would help. I think maybe licensing older players like that all-pro football game tried to do would work well for Tecmo, but would cost way too much.

You can customize the teams and the players to give real names.

Yeah, I'm currently waiting for someone else to do all the work so I can benefit! :) I don't follow the Foosball as it's one of the many tools of the devil, but I can't pass up a classic game from my youth.

I loved both the NES and SNES versions. Honestly I think I prefer the SNES version. While taking Bo Jackson every single play and exploiting the game for a touchdown whenever you felt like it was fun, the SNES version was a more solid experience with the slight add in realism.

Didn't the SNES one have all the crazy stat tracking also?

Really if they ported the NES version online with no changes everyone would hate it as we all know what exact players to select and how to guarantee touchdowns whenever. That would get old and boring quickly after you are done with your 10 minute nostalgia fuzzy feeling.

I know Tecmo Bowl had Bo Jackson and Walter Payton. Tecmo Super Bowl came out on NES and went to the 4 pass and 4 run, with stat tracking, full seasons, etc etc. I don't even recall Tecmo Super Bowl really.

But this is an all time classic. I've been playing Tecmo Super Bowl (NES) again on and off over the past few years on sites like virtualnes.com and it holds up. It's just a fun game. I would be happy with that one, but I'm all for the optional 3D remake as well. All in all, good times. :)

Well I guess you'll never play a non-EA football game again as this won't have the names, but as others have said it does feature roster edit capabilities.

Edit: And this is a port of the SNES Tecmo Super Bowl, Tecmo has said as much. http://espn.go.com/espn/thelife/videogames/blog/_/name/thegamer/id/5093769/tecmo-bowl-throwback-qa

So it's based on 1991 rosters, right? The article I read yesterday said the season mode has "seasons 1, 2, and 3" which would represent 1991, 1992, and 1993.

Yeah it's kinda weird. The players and their abilities are based on the preseason 91 rosters (which would be the NES version,) but the game is a port of the SNES version, which had the rosters of the 93 season and the different gameplay improvements.

On a different note, didn't realize how rare Tecmo Super Bowl 2 on the SNES is. According to an old Nintendo Power article from Wikipedia, only 15k units were shipped. I think Tecmo Super Bowl 3 is even rarer, which I also own. Makes me wish I kept the boxes of all my old NES/SNES games, instead of just keeping the game sleeves on the NES games and buying those clear, plastic cases for the game/manual Nintendo used to sell for SNES games.

I actually really enjoyed the SNES version more than the NES version, just because of the improvements.
I didn't know this game came out next week, till now. This or Final Fight for $10? Hmmm...
Easy one, Final Fight.

Anybody else down for a CAG unofficial league? The game doesn't have an online league but we could just play online and keep standings on here and then a playoff system.

I'm holding off for reviews before I buy the game, but if I end up getting it I'd be willing to join the league for at least one season.

I'm in. There's no way I won't get this game day one. Good or bad, this is my absolute favorite game from my childhood (well, TSB for NES anyway), so I really don't even have a choice, haha.

I might be in. Moving on the 15th though, so don't know when my internet will be going down here / going up at the new place.
I thought it did have online leagues?
Jon Robinson: What game modes can people expect?

Mike Fahrny: We have a full single-player season. You can play through three seasons, which is basically what would be the 1991, 1992, and 1993 seasons, but we just call it season 1, 2, and 3 in the game. We also have an online component. Unfortunately, we just didn't have the time or resources available to make it a full tournament system online, but I think that will probably come in the next iteration. In this one, you're playing preseason against opponents head-to-head. It's still a nice component that has never been had on the console for this game.

http://espn.go.com/espn/thelife/videogames/news/story?id=5003820

Now if they didn't put in a tournament system can we really expect an online league?

I'm excited but will wait for the reviews. There's something odd looking about the new graphics in motion...hope they didn't mess too much with the original.
