Where is Baltimore?
Game is based on 1991/1993 rosters. Rumors are that there are a ton of extra teams so maybe Baltimore is an extra team in the game.

Yeah, I really hope the game is just a faithful port with updated graphics. 28 teams is fine with me. Adding a bunch of teams in that weren't there is just going to hurt the nostalgia. Also, wildcpac, you spelled my gamertag wrong.
If Baltimore wasn't in the original then I don't want it there - I never played the original game, so I didn't know.
It came out long after the Colts left Baltimore, but several years before the Ravens came into existence.
I will take any team. :)

Hmm... Xbox.com's game description says the following:

Pick your team: Play as any of the 32 teams with customizable team names and rosters in full seasons, and compare your season stats with other players on the online leaderboards.

I think we should all be responsible for re-naming our team properly. I hope they keep the first names correct like they did with the city names. Much easier that way.

It's not terribly difficult to find accurate rosters for that time period...probably for that exact roster (whichever one they end up using) considering what a huge following TSB still has. I'll just be happy to finally have Jim Kelly instead of "QB Bills". I can seriously still remember almost the entire lineup for the Bills from the NES version of Tecmo Super Bowl. Thurman Thomas, Jamie Mueller, Kenneth Davis, Carwell Gardner...and that's just the running backs, haha. Man, does anybody else hear Bruce Springstein's "Glory Days" playing?

As for Matt's posting of the XBL description, I don't know if anybody outside of Tecmo has a clue what this game is going to have, lol. "Play as any of the 32 teams..." Considering there weren't 32 teams then, what the hell does that mean?

Also, no offense to crunchewy, but lol at not knowing when your team came into existence. Not trying to be a dick, but that makes you sound like a youngin' haha ;)

NY Jets
Pittsburgh
do you want the Jets or Pittsburgh? Both teams are free, choose 1.

This league is turning about to be AFC dominated.

Jets.
I'm actually a NFC guy, but the G-Men are taken.

Pro-football-reference.com is a great resource for rosters.

I am shocked you are taking the Jets over the Steelers. Especially circa 1991. I believe that was Cowhers first year and a return to the top for the Steelers. Nope, it was Chuck Nolls last year. Jets had Ken OBrien and Moore/Al toon.
FYI, my gamertag is typo'd in the OP. Should be III HydroX III .. the X is missing.
Fixed.

There was a link I clicked on while reading game info on one of the 15 sites where I searched, and it linked to a page on GameFAQs with the rosters from the original game. I guess it would be in SNES/Tecmo Super Bowl.

I am still shocked that nobody choose the Superbowl Champ Redskins. Saints, Falcons, Eagles and Oilers are other playoff teams not picked yet.

I was contemplating the Redskins but the Broncos D was just so badass back then...

3 guys with around 10 sacks and Atwater/Smith in the backfield. Orange crush.

Hey!!! Can I get in on the fun -- Im going to purchase the game right now (after this post) .. anyway, my gamertag is 'King of Edmond'

I would like Cleveland Browns as a first choice .... I'll take Tampa Bay if cleveland is not available ...

Thanks!! ... This sounds like fun!!

*edit* not available yet -- I gotta sleep, so maybe after work tomorrow!

For those of us who were confused earlier, I just bought the game and went through the teams. There's 30 total from what I'm seeing. 28 regular, 2 all star.

JStryke, just get several games in early before you move to cover the time that you might not have the net. League will probably be like 1-2 games tops a week depending on how active people are and the game isn't too long to play.
Weren't the Rams in LA in the early 90's?
Yeah, the Rams moved to St Louis in 1995. I guess the kept St Louis because the team kept the same name/colors as the LA Rams. Oilers changed into the Titans, Browns changed into Ravens etc.

just played a couple series on Offense and Defense... it's a pretty good "throwback" not the same, but still pretty solid... online will be fun.

achievements are way too easy.

Yeah, I figured I'd either try getting them out of the way or catching up. I'd like to say my internet isn't going down until between the 10th-15th (the day we move), but I honestly don't know. And I would hope it would be up within the week of moving.

Just played a game between the Giants and the 49'ers.

First impressions. The gameplay is pretty fun, a little too easy and the graphics are pretty good for a throwback game.

1. It sucks sucks sucks sucks that you cannot change a defender after the ball has been hiked.
2. Game could use a turbo,360, high step button.
3. Stats for the regular season are lacking. You cannot see individual team stats just league/conference/division leaders. QB TD's and Passing Rating is missing for league leaders
4. Cannot change team colors.
5. Changing player names is going to be a chore unless you look up everything online. The change name list is just the position, first and last name. It doesn't include the # or the stats. You are going to have to go into a game with that team and get the player # or get the lists online from someone else who already did it.
6. It is a remake of the 1993 SNes game.
7. When you Kickoff or Punt the ball, you can only use the Punter/Kicker. Would have been great to have had a button to press to change to the person closest to the ball. Plus the punter/kicker cant tackle for shit.

My bad, I forgot someone picked the Browns before you. I gave you Tampa, you can choose another team if you want? Some pretty good teams are still left.

League is filling up. The following teams are still available.

Jets
Pats
Bengals
Seahawks
Eagles
Cardinals
Redskins
Falcons
Saints
Rams

ok.

It's looking like if you play online and someone dc's during the game that you do not get the win.

Well, that sucks, but I'm probably not going to play with complete strangers (other then you strangers, but I know where you post :) so it's not a huge deal to me. Anyone who's played it and the original... how well does this game mimics the original SNES game?

That sucks. Because people will just disconnect to keep from losing.

You have a list of almost 20 on here to play so far. Someone DC's just mention them in this thread. If they do it again and again, they get blacklisted. I doubt it's going to happen.

Added the game to the download queue; will be able to play in an hour if anyone wants to give it a go.

Although my buddy wants the first crack, we've talked a lot of Tecmo Bowl trash over the years.... time to put up or shut up. lol

soooooooo.... it's the same as the old game... which most people would probably expect.

They didn't add anything in, which is a good thing in my mind. I would like the player editing names to be easier, I probably won't do every team.

1. Have you ever played Tecmo Bowl before?
2. Tecmo Super Bowl 2/3 on the SNES did add spin/hurdle/juke moves depending on the health of your player and how good they were if you jammed the A button. Since this is a port of TSB 1, no surprise that's not in there.
3. This might be the biggest negative I've seen about the game so far. I'll have to look at it myself, but it would have been nice to improve a few things from the awesome in the day stat tracking from TSB 1.
4. Not surprising, can't have EA suing them.
5. This is how it was on the DS version so not surprising there either.
6. And this is bad for what reason?
7. See No. 1
