Tecmo Bowl Throwback League Disbanded

Are we manually changing everything to the old NFL rosters, or is it up to us on everything?

Or does it really even matter?
also, are we gonna end up drafting teams if we get a full league
Doubt it. Pretty much seems everybody is already getting one of their top two choices and posted already.

I just played 2 games as the Oilers and than as the Cowboys. Smith is a fucking beast in this game. Breaking tackles and getting 40 plus yard runs all game. Moon has a cannon for an arm. I played another game as the Giants and they are pretty much average offensively but 52 is another beast get sacks all over the place.

You manually have to do it. I personally do not know if I am going to go team by team for every player but I am going to put every star into the game.

Nobody knows yet if changed names show up online.

For those who still want in, team cutoff is going to be Friday and the league should start on Saturday/Sunday.

That way everybody can get a set 16 game schedule.

There's a list that has all the players' names from 1993, I believe a link is already on this thread in a Pastapadre article. I will probably only do the Chefs since that's who I'm in the league with. Ah, who I am kidding? I know exactly what I'm doing this weekend, editing lineups.
Totally amazed that "QB Eagles" and his squad are still out there, Cunningham was sick on Tecmo Bowl games.
Good Call! I thought someone took the Eagles! I want to switch my team from SD to the Eagles.
You have a list of almost 20 on here to play so far. Someone DC's just mention them in this thread. If they do it again and again, they get blacklisted. I doubt it's going to happen.
I was more of thinking when playing randoms.

I just switched you to the Eagles.

Chargers are now open for whomever wants them.
soooooooo.... it's the same as the old game... which most people would probably expect.

They didn't add anything in, which is a good thing in my mind. I would like the player editing names to be easier, I probably won't do every team.
This. I'm insanely happy it's exactly like the old game. Call it outdated or whatever, but there was absolutely no sense in re-releasing this game and turning it into something different. That's what Blitz, Backbreaker football and that Doug William BCFX or whatever the hell it's called are for. This is Tecmo Bowl. It's for the people who grew up on it.

Sorta like how they ruined Turtles in Time with all the new crap they added. :/

Game is a ton of fun. I just hope for the sequel if there is one they add, online leagues, franchises, more stats, player editor (skin color, skills, # and name) and team color editor.
I just switched you to the Eagles.

Thanks!
so since I'm working, do the players have #'s at all?
I noticed them on the jerseys.

Can't remember if I saw them on the top of the screen. I think so, but I could be wrong.
so since I'm working, do the players have #'s at all?
Yeah, they do...and they're correct. Really, most of this game is exactly as you would expect it without having any license. Miami even has a fucking orca whale in its endzone, lol. How close can you get?
so since I'm working, do the players have #'s at all?
You see the #'s in the cutscenes. The bottom of the screen has the defensive player name and # that is being used and the offensive player with the ball name and #.

Again, this is exactly how it was in the original game. Most people are going to be happy about this.
ok cool, but you're saying they aren't the right numbers? because you said #52 on the Giants was great but that should be 56... or is it just another good player
52 was Pepper Johnson. LT was 56 but he was a shadow of his former self in 1993 which was his last season. Sucks that Strahan and Armstead didn't make the cut into the game.

For Destro and anybody else who hasn't been able to get their hands on the game yet, some things people have questioned over the past few weeks:

*There are 28 teams

*All teams are placed in divisions as they should be, and have their appropriate City/State name.

*Editing team names is ridiculously simple. It asks if you want to edit the City/State name. You press start to just OK the correct name that was already in there. Then, it asks you for a "secondary name". So, you just type BILLS, COLTS, DOLPHINS, etc.

*Rosters are from the 1993 season.

*Players numbers show up during the game, but when you go in to edit player names, they do not. It only shows name and position. They are in depth chart order though...so that might help a little. I'm sure a complete name for name editing chart will appear online in 24 hours or less though considering how popular this game is going to be.

That's all I can think of for now.

^ i played it for like 10 mins but had to go to work, sorry for all the questions, i got a good grasp now

I also wanna change to the Falcons wild... Bo Knew Retirement by 1993.
Fixed.

n8, that gamefaqs link I posted is the correct names with the correct depth chart.

Sweet. Thanks for that! I'm starting the process now. I'll probably only do a couple teams a day, but just being able to do this will make this game amazing.

Also, I popped a chubby the first time I pressed RB and switched from 3D to 2D. 3D is nice, but 2D is where it's at for this game. It felt just like the good old days.

EDIT - I gotta say, having a USB keyboard or chatpad is a must for editing these names. Just a word to the wise.

Yeah 2D is the only way to play this game. 3D sucks.

Shaking off the rust I won my first game 51-10 (San Fran vs. Pittsburgh). I got 6 achievements in the only game I played!

Editing is going to be a bitch but I'll plug in a keyboard and get chugging on that tonight.

I believe you have to change your video preferences in the settings to 2d to be able to play it online because you cannot switch during an online game.
I believe you have to change your video preferences in the settings to 2d to be able to play it online because you cannot switch during an online game.
Correct. You can set the default to 2D in video settings.

League has 19 teams. It is going to be easier to do an 18 week schedule where everybody plays 1 game against everybody. NFC is 11 teams and the AFC is 8 teams. Everybody jumped ship.
So are we going to vote if the league games will be played in 2D or 3D? I'm voting for 2D if we are.
Can one person do 3d while the other does 2d?

5 or 10 minute quarters? I prefer 10 because 5 ends in like 10 minutes. The clock speed is pretty fast.

No. When you play online both teams has to use whatever mode the game creator is using. I like 5 minute quarters.

Also, one thing I've learned is not surprisingly, when you play online your opponent can't see your custom team at all. Kinda sucks, but I guess it prevents the All Penis team.

really? I read several posts that opponents can see your edits.

Well, I just played a game with a friend after editing my Bills team. I asked him if my kicker said "Christie" and he said it said "Langley".

Hell yeah! I played a couple of games with my son, it was fun(just like I remember).
In the SNES version is the AFC and NFC teams called "all-stars" or "probowl"?
Good question. Let me see if I've got an emulation of it somewhere, and I'll let you know.

Played a couple games with Pure Apathy earlier. Not surprisingly, each of us took a game when we were player one. So far, that's one of my biggest gripes with the game. I HATE going right to left. For whatever reason, it's just harder to make my cuts and dodge tackles. It's too bad they didn't think to have a "visual preferences" option for always going left to right.

Also, I don't like that in online games, both parties have to have 2D selected or it defaults to 3D. There's nothing wrong with 3D, but I just don't enjoy it as much. The ultimate kick in the nuts is being stuck as player two and playing in 3D. I'm guessing this will cause a lot of people to create their own matches and wait for an opponent, rather than just joining a game.

Just checked the emulated version of the game, and they are called "AFC ALL STARS" and "NFC ALL STARS".

EDIT - Also, one interesting thing I noticed, the GameFAQs roster chart has "#0 - QB Chiefs" listed for Kansas City, like it was in the original game. But that SHOULD be Joe Montana. Montana was traded to the Chiefs in April of '93. The rosters are accurate as of August 16, 1993. However, Marcus Allen is nowhere to be found, even though he signed with the Chiefs in June of '93.

I played 3 games with eastX. He blew me out the first time despite not knowing when he was on offense or defense half the time. The second game, he won 7-0. The last one was ranked, and I beat him by a couple scores. Fun stuff.

Yeah, I'm not loving the defensive controls in this game, but hopefully I'll get used to it. The graphics and sound are rad.

I was wondering that when I started looking at the Chief's roster in the demo... It wasn't so much the QB stats but the stats of some of KC's defensive players...

Anyhow, I gave the demo a try and liked it but I'm curious on the edit mode before I get to excited and buy it expecting more.

Players
Can you edit appearance?

Can you edit abilities/stats?

Teams
Can you edit team colors/uniforms?

Names?

Location?

Lastly, what happens when you play someone with an edited roster...?
