Can I use the $5 monthly coupon on gift cards?

Yes you can in store but not online please note not all gift cards will apply to this rule.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free.
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

This site is weird now. People caterwauling in every thread about how much stuff costs like spending ten minutes a week checking deal posts can't easily net you a few hundred a month in flips.

10 minutes/week to easily net a few hundred/month.

Lies.

Only thing that nets that much from flips is consoles, and even then it's a crapshoot and highly dependent on the second hand console market in your area (and then that's dependent on sellers not asking way too much for their stuff).

God knows there's barely any games in stock at GS, in store, so where exactly are you finding enough games to flip for that much on a monthly basis.

It may be nothing and just weird data, but Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - Lumiere Edition shows "release date" of 10/31/2025 on back-end on GameStop. Page is currently delisted online. Chance they may be reprinting it.

Would be cool if true. I'm debating on the Monolith Edition but can't stomach the $60 shipping + "tariffs" charge (yes I realize tariffs are a hot button thing rn, but them charging a non-fundable fee for tariffs that may or may not exist at the time of shipment is scummy).

Woot for one. There were about ten titles(maybe more, i dont waste time on anything less than 150% return), that were all easily ordered online and flipped to gamestop while the 40% boost was active. Margins would have been far better with the double stack coupons but I was done by then. VGP has sales as well and it takes very little time to peruse them.

You buy low and wait for a MWT bump or wait for trade promos. It really is that easy.

just to add to this, you really have to watch all the games on the MWT bump list each month, as well as just general TIV trends. for instance, many of the $15 xbox games that were available when the buy 2 get 1 free started had their TIV returned to what it was before they went on sale. the sony games are a good bet right now to have TIV bounce back after they go off sale, especially the last of us ps5 games that always seem to be in demand.

Give a man a flip, he’ll game free for a day. Teach a man to flip, he will game free for a lifetime.

I flip only accessories, and genuinely source from only eBay. Definitely a few hours a week spent browsing eBay, so it’s not 10 minutes and only gives me GameStop funny money

weird coincidence as I saw a young kid wearing a Naruto costume yesterday shopping at an aldis. Though I'm not sure what character off hand aside only recognized the headband.

Not GameStop-related, but the new owners of Game Informer sent out an email today that says there will be a 1-day-only discount for subscriptions tomorrow. It'll be emailed to everyone who registered, so sign up now if you haven't - it might be too late already.

Thanks. If it isn’t too expensive, I’ll subscribe to support print journalism.

I personally don't care about the Red Bull, but in typical GS fashion, only select stores will have them tonight. I stopped by my store and the employees said the closest "Red Bull store" is almost an hour away. Ended up going next door to the Walmart, buying some snacks, and taking them to the employees working the midnight launch of the Switch 2.

I traded in 2 Wii’s, 3 Wii remotes, and 2 broken Xbox One controllers for $163 today. I couldn’t trade it towards my preorder as it was at a different store. I assumed I got the 20% bonus but I need to look at the receipt. The employee was really cool and didn’t charge me any refurb fees which was cool.

Guys before I do something stupid, a red Wii isn’t worth anything right? It was the one that came with super mario bros and sports. Which I don’t have anymore.

Second question: my friend gave me a hacked Wii a while ago. Can I trade that in?

Idk.. A Red Mario 25th anniversary Wii system is like $60-$90 on ebayland complete with the red wiimote wires etc.. a hacked wii I would assume you could trade in if they not picky employee

The color Wii units weren't special from a hardware perspective. They don't have GameCube support either.

Trading in a hacked Wii, assuming it boots as normal is probably fine. Most hacked wiis appear (boot) normal when you pull the SD card from the front.

It’s actually the red one with GameCube support.

The hacked one is older and dirtier so I’ll see if I can trade that one in. Might do a factory reset.

I got $60 for one and $50 for another. I didn’t go to the store my Switch 2 preorder was at so I didn’t get my 20% bonus. It showed it for any console trade in last night so it surprised me.

At the same time they didn’t charge me any refurb fees on the 2 busted Xbox One controllers or the Wii with the missing controller and memory card covers. I traded in two white Wiis with a Wiimote, nunchuck, motion sensor bar, composite cables, and the power cable. I didn’t trade in my red Wii as the color looks cool and I never see them in stores.

I also didn’t reset them and they didn’t test them while I was there. The guy said they just send it away anyway. Typically they would set it up from my previous experience of trying to trade one in last fall.

I think the acceptance criteria for Wiis varies store to store or even day by day depending on how often they get Wii trade ins. When I traded mine in, I only had the console with missing covers, single Wiimote, power cable, video cable, and wireless sensor and hit me with a $7 refurbish fee for the missing covers. I went again today to trade in the same set of items and they said that they wouldn't accept without the nunchuk, stand, GCN port/MC covers or the wiimote back cover- I feel like they were mostly trying to avoid taking in this trade or they realized what the whole trade in package looks like.

I forget about woot. I'm assuming VGP is video game plus? Looks like Canadian retailer?

Side note, I seem to be blocked from using the mobile GS site on my phone? Not real sure why? Anybody have this happen, and how do you circumvent (other than potentially using VPN)

That was my experience last year when I tried to trade in a Wii. I forgot to bring the nunchuck and they wouldn’t take it In. i’m thankful that they didn’t take it in at the time because it’s worth more now even without the extra 20% bonus.

I need that stapler...to go through all the packaging is something else....was it similar to a nail gun or something?? Wonder if you could return it?

Nah, a regular stapler will do that. They can staple between 10-30 sheets of paper together. I mean there are staple guns (I use mine to reupholster my kitchen chairs) and that would’ve caused major damage.

When I refreshed last night to try to catch a 12am system online, my desktop and phone. both connected to my wireless, were blocked. Had been fine all night. Ordinarily my anonymous VPN will be blocked on the GS site, but last night it was fine. My phone on LTE was fine, too. This morning both are fine on wireless. Probably Switch 2 traffic control.

Preordered a mario kart bundle switch 2 in stores last night after waiting in line ~90 mins, picked up at 9pm (west coast) after 20 minute wait so pretty good experience. Didn't push super hard for PRP or accessories either. Bummer gamestop had no freebie with a console buy -- best buy had some sort of coin i think, and walmart was shipping free pringles and cokes for deliveries.

Didn't get points yet for the purchase. I see around town there are tons and tons of inventory of switch 2s at target, walmart, and best buy and people are walking in hours after open and still able to buy a system. I expect a flood of returns from resellers next week, wonder if gamestop will refuse returns from scalpers trying to return too many.

In completely GameStop fashion, one store ruined their batch of Switch 2’s by stapling the receipts to the box for the midnight opening. The staples ruined all the screens.

Lmao, saw that thread on reddit about employees stapling the receipt on the switch box, and damaging the screens.

I'm curious to see the end result.

I think the concern is two fold, yeah there's the staple marks... but then on top of that when you use a stapler I've always seen people smacking the stapler with the palm or heel of their hand. Either of which is an impact force which is essentially being applied directly to the screen (only reason it probably didn't shatter, was the cardboard probably spread the force out or it wasn't quite enough force to break the screen).
