The best comedy anime is Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu and I will slap anyone who says otherwise. That said, you have to get through season one (Full Metal Panic!) if you want to enjoy it to its maximum potential.
That is the only reason I would say it isn't the funniest.

Fumoffu is definitely in my top 5, but I'd put Ranma 1/2 (the funniest IMO), Goldenboy, and Miami Guns right there with it in regards to pure laugh-out-loud moments.

i dont know what anime too watch...anyone got any recommendations?
For recent stuff, been watching Toradora and Kannagi for comedic/light hearted shows, just started watching the new Ippo (New Challenger) for shonen.

Older series I'd check out Eureka Seven, Planetes, Scrapped Princess, Monster or Last Exile. All are IMO superb.

Well, here are free, legal shows to watch on Hulu...

http://www.hulu.com/channels/Animation-and-Cartoons/Anime#kind=shows&show_id=1459&sort=popularity

If you are talking about buying DVDs, then let me know what you have seen that you like. I have a large DVD collection and can probably recommend something from that. I don't torrent and only watch anime via legal means (DVD, Netflix, Hulu, Cable TV), so I can't help with that.
Yakitate Japan and Azumanga Daioh are my favorite comedies.
I forgot to add that to my list.

Seriously though, Miami Guns is the shiznit.

I've stopped torrenting too and just watch everything on hulu, netflix or itunes.

Right now I'm watching Shikabane Hime on hulu. I'm only 3 episodes in but I like it so far.
If it's animated it's cool. I just don't like real girls.
Wait a minute...

Didn't you do the hottest girl thread years ago? :whistle2:k

Ewww. Blue Gender.

Besides Bleach, Naruto, Death Note, Speed Racer, and Astro Boy, what are the best of the offerings on Hulu? I'm not into vampires or gore since I can see at least one of those shows in vampire-based, but I'd be up for checking out one or two of those series since they're free.

School Rumble. And Black Blood Brothers is good. It's about vampires but it's not gory.

:lol:Has there been a hottest anime girl thread yet?

That's the one I was looking at trying out. Thanks.

I'll skip BBB since I'm not interested in vampire anime, but thanks for the suggestion anyway.

There was no way to keep up the anime at the rate the manga comes out. I would like to see a do over one day when the manga finally wraps up. Same with Berserk.

I just started reading Bleach volume 2, I reckon i'm really going to get into this series. I've only seen 26/27 episodes of the anime but hopefully i'll gain enthusiasm to start watching it again.

Gundam 00 Season 2 Episode 15 thoughts :
As much as I loved season one season 2 just isn't hitting it's stride. First that ridiculous crap about Setsuna not killing Ali Sarshas just because some children were singing and now Mr Bushido shows up sporting Trans-Am out of the blue. And let us not forget the O-Raiser having a cockpit even though it is never separated from the 00 Gundam these days. I'm hoping the series can sort of bounce back in a satisfying manner because right now i'm not really enjoying the show

But that's kinda my point. I wish the manga moved along at a quicker pace (like weekly). If it had, I'd bet the anime would've been fleshed out a bit more. I guess I can only hope they can pump out a 2nd season of Claymore.

A big part of the anime ending would have to be reworked for that though, don't get me wrong I would love to see another season but that ending closed the book on continuing the manga storyline in a satisfactory way.

They could do what's being done with the new Full Metal Alchemist, ie, just redoing it. At least they didn't go the Bleach/Naruto route and add filler.

I finished School Rumble Season 2. What is up with these incomplete endings. Does this mean there is a season 3 coming? I also just started Slayers dvd from my rightstuf order. I just like the old school anime style.

Well unfortunately that is what happens when the manga is still running, you get no closure at all in the anime versions. The final manga volume came out on July 23, 2008 in Japan. Released with the last two manga was 2 anime episodes called "Third Semester," so perhaps they end the school rumble anime franchise. Who knows when they will come out over here however, hopefully Funimation got their rights too. Slayers is fun, just don't watch all 3 seasons too fast, you can get some serious series fatigue (that happened to me at least when I watched them a few years ago and got pretty apathetic by the middle of the 3rd season).

Good advice Grico. I'm going to watching next weeks bleach but I'm expecting lots and lots of more filler episodes on the way. Darn you fillers.

Need some opinions. Every wed my friends and I watch anime. The last two weeks we have been watching Witch Hunter Robin, and not really liking it. We are on the third disc, I think episode 11, and are about to give up on it, but then I read this:

From this point forward (around episode 11) the series switches direction from a new murder case each episode to a continuing saga that builds from previous episodes.

I think that this is one of the best animes currently out right now. I admit, from about episode 3-8, the series lagged in my opinion, but I think it was necessary to show how STNJ conducted their hunts on a day to day basis. From about episode 11 onwards, the series really picked up momentum and to the point where I've anxiously waited for newer episodes to be released.
So does it get better? I really wanted to like this show, but some pretty poor dialogue coupled with simple shows of stand-alone cases have made it terrible. And yet everyone on the internet seems to be in love with it. Do we need to give it more time?

Honestly, I think the second half of the series doesn't ultimately come together all that well. You are pretty close to the big mid series "event" which has the potential to knock the series up to the next level but ultimately isn't carried out well enough to do so with, in my view, some head scratching moments and some stupid unbelievable plotting. I think the series is enjoyable and I like the basic animation designs but if you expect that the "shocking" mysteries of the series will be resolved in an interesting way I think you will be disappointed. So I guess my advice is if you don't dig it now, you should probably abandon ship. Or if you want watch up to the big mid season event and a couple episodes after. If you don't like where it is at 2 episodes after significantly more, there is no reason to continue to my mind.

God I remember WHR on AS. Complete failure to launch. It just never went anywhere, with the characters, with the story. Totally failed to get me to care about it, and mostly just put me to sleep.

It is weird. I think I watch like 3 episodes of it. I don't care about any of the main characters. The whole setting seems bland and goth just like the characters. I want to see some cool abilities. I think I rather re-watch S-cry-ed.
s-CRY-ed wasn't that bad.
Agrees. s-CRY-ed was the anime equivalent of a eating a can of whipped cream by spraying it into your mouth. It's bad for you, you're embarrassed to be doing it, yet it's such fun. Also with the right outlook, it's incredibly dirty.

Kazuma! Ryuho! x1000

Also s-CRY-ed had Straight couger. An awesome character not bound by the anime he appeared in.

Agreed. It's not anything I'd say was outstanding by any means, but it's a decent anime to watch. Especially since I got my copy of the first season, or the only season I think, for free.

i have a bleach question for anyone who reads the manga.
the first is how far ahead of the anime is the manga and have they gone into the fact that ichigo's dad is/was a shinigami and if so at what point does that happen?
s-CRY-ed wasn't that bad.
I could never personally get through it, only made it 1/2 way (and that was when I had seen less anime and was a bit more lenient). The english dub has some terrible voice acting for some of the roles and even got mediocre performances out of usually solid VA. The color palette for the show also just seemed wrong to me (1/2 the cast had just terrible clothing color choices). I do remember liking Straight Cougar quite a bit though. He was fun. The main cast though did nothing for me.

I finished watching Azumanga Daioh today. It was pretty AWESOME. I can't believe I ignored this show for so long. I was actually pretty bummed when I finished it, haha!

As Grico mentioned, the '3rd Semester' was released w/ the manga. However, the reason why I put them in quotes is that only eps. 25 & 26 were ever developed as a sort of 'book-end' closure to the anime. Essentially, you'll need to read the manga to find out what happened in eps. 1-24 (which will never exist in animated form... unless the company decides to make them a la OVA style).

As for the ending in the Claymore anime, while I admit it does have closure, the fact that
Priscilla is still alive (like in the manga)
means that there is still some story to tell.

Man, I wish I had finished shin angyo onshi, I watched up until the dude has the girl following him then I got interrupted and never came back to it, and that was years ago.

I still trip out on the desert scene, I just never thought the kid would go out like that, or those creatures. Plus, it seems like the guy's ability to summon fighters is completely worthless against everything he encounters! Another WTF, but I'm sure it'll come in handy if I can ever finish the movie :(

The movie was ok. I liked it, at least. The characters aren't really good, but it's pretty solid overall.

I read the manga first, and I liked that, which undoubtedly biased my opinion.

Back with a report of Anime Night. We skipped WHR and decided to pick up a new series. I've got one I'm dying to see, Monster, but we opted for Black Blood Brothers since a guest of ours brought it and we usually pick the shows/movies ourselves. It also sounded interesting, and fairly short in comparison to the 40-odd episodes of Monster. So far we've seen the first disc and it was pretty good; way better than WHR. I know WHR wasn't meant to be actiony, but geez was it slow. I am pretty sure I can take non-actiony anime... Mushi-shi was really good and was probably the least action oriented anime I've ever seen. I'm just saying I don't think it's a predisposition against WHR from a genre POV. Glad to see others were sorta confused at the great reviews it garnered around the net, when the show itself is just not good.

I'm kinda thinking the show was so acclaimed simply because it:
1) Was sorta gothic (and I'll admit that I really did like the backgrounds and stuff at first.)
2) Has a cute girl protagonist.

Maybe it's just me, but I know a ton of girls that would love anything with that combination.

Yep. I think my last GF was into it just for those reasons. That and it put me to sleep.

Was it originally Korean or something? I remember reading something like that, or I guess it was just released with a Korean dub, but I forget >_

Yeah, you're probably right. I think the mangaka made jokes about how his editor or whatever went to Japan, but the only words he knew he learned from hentai, which resulted in him going around saying "Ie~" and "Kimochii~" randomly. Man, I really wish I'd have seen that.

So I really enjoyed Busou Renkin. I'd give it a B+ or even an A-. Kazuki is more likeable than the main characters of 90% of shonen anime. He's just a real cool dude.

Short and sweet at 26 eps. I recommend it.

So in keeping with the "Jump Ultimate Stars Tour" I've gotten all 26 eps of Houshin Engi (A.K.A. Soul Hunter).

I tried School Rumble and it just seemed really banal. Nothing interesting really happened and noone likeable showed up. I skipped forward a bunch to the "fishing boat" episode which was totally awesome until he was off the fishing boat and things got lame again. Do not recommend.
