If you were bored then you are going to be bored now, the pacing of the show got really bad for awhile there, even with the stuff that wasn't filler. But I believe there is a list like that since a friend mentioned something similar the other day, if I find it i'll post it
 
I finished Beck today. There were some things I didnt really care for:

First thing being the black guy. The whole gang element and revelation behind Prudence seemed kinda unnecessary.

Second would be all that build up for Maho x Koyuki, which I thought climaxed when they kissed at the festival, only to be shot down with one line saying "It hasnt gone anywhere since the festival" (or something along those lines).

Other than those things, I loved the series. The ending seemed like the typical "happily ever after", but I guess there really is no other decent way to tie off a series like that.

I've got both seasons of GITS: SAC on my Q5W. I'm about 5 episodes into the series, and am enjoying it thus far, so I'll probably be watching it all day at work tomorrow and finishing it Weds or Thurs. I love having an easy job, makes catching up on my backlog a snap.

well i mean without Sykes there is nothing else driving the plot besides "band stuff". there had to be another element to it. i liked it, added some validity to Ryusuke's "tough" demeanor and made the stakes much higher at greatful sounds

as for Maho and Koyuki it's just the nature of their relationship from the start. start off skinny dipping, then nothing.. kiss at train station.. nothing.. etc. etc. i thought it was a lot more believable than girl hot enough to be a bikini model falls for nerdy guitar player lol

also the end is hardly happily ever after. the second to last episode when Saku leaves was the closest i've been to crying watching anime.. so sad :cry: and then everything that happens during the america tour is bittersweet as well as it's not leading to anything else that we know of and Ryusuke only joins at the end. there's little resolution that left me not empty at the end, but just wistful wondering what happens next. the slideshow added to that feeling.

do you guys have any series that you've seen more than twice thru? Beck will probably be the first series i watch more than twice.

Several of the series that have aired on Adult Swim I've seen through several times. FLCL and Bebop especially I've seen more times than I can count. Fullmetal Alchemist , Evangelion , Trigun I've also seen at least twice or more. Probably a few other series that I can't think of off hand.

I've watched all of Ranma 1/2 at least 3 times.

Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (counting 2nd GIG as a second season). That's it.

I usually have no desire to watch a series more than once (let alone three times), but I found myself watching those those two at least three times.

Edit: After reading Guile's list I need to add Big O, Black Lagoon, FLCL, and Samurai Champloo. I forgot about those titles.
 
Last night I finally decided to start watching my Get Backers DVDs. I am really enjoying it. I have only watched the first 5 episodes, but the show has been really fun.

Claymore, Outlaw Star, and FLCL.

Saw Outlaw Star on cartoon network whenever it was first on, and had to go back and watch it again when I grabbed the boxset.

Claymore was awesome enough to warrant a second viewing

I liked FLCL enough/it was short enough for me to watch it a couple of times so I could try to understand it better.

http://www.leafninja.com/anime-1.php Best I could find was a filler arc list, but the canon material is also listed. Just read it until something sounds familiar and you should be able to match it up.

I've decided that it really bothers me when characters always say their attack in shonen series... it bothers me like a laugh track in a sitcom, and unfortunately is just as prevalent.

It doesn't bother me. It would be funny in american toons. Seeing Batman yell "Batarang!", as he threw it, would make me giggle.
 
It always bothered me since back in the DBZ days.. granted, I watched the dub. "Special Beam Cannon... FIRE!!!" So retarded. What's bothering me right now is One Piece. "Gomu Gomu no... PISTOORRU!!!" C'mon now Luffy, why can't you just punch him? =\

I think it must be rooted in manga, where the author surely does it to help the reader follow what's going on. In manga there's only a couple frames of an attack so it could be difficult to determine what's going on if you weren't told. But in anime it just irks me.

Well, just watched Code Geass 24. It's getting slightly better. But I feel like the plot is a lost cause.

It bothered me in Rurouni Kenshin tv that Kenshin and others had to yell out a move before doing it with a sword. It was ridiculous......... then I saw the OVA where nobody said squat and just did it. Ironically at times I was wondering what move was that??? :lol:
 
It kind of makes sense though. In martial arts a yell helps focus the attack, startle the opponent, etc. For TV it is more compelling to say the name of the attack than a generic "hee-ya!".

I think I remember reading somewhere that it be explained that calling an attack in anime helps focus chi.

:lol: I find this kinda funny since I was just thinking about this earlier today. Not about it bothering me , just thinking about the fact that characters do it.

I probably already know the answer to this question , but did has anybody else except me watched Yugioh 5Ds since it premered last saturday?

i'm watching another shojo, Ultra-Maniac and it's now clearly evident to me that i'm genuinely entertained by shows that are meant to be enjoyed by 10 yr old girls.. wtf :rofl:

I haven't seen the anime for it but I've read the first volume or two of the manga and I enjoyed it.

It's definitely a marketing strategy for merchandise. It's probably also a way to help readers/viewers differentiate things.

This show was epic tier shonen until the writer seemingly got bored or distracted.

good stuff hahah i remember hearing kenshin say "imakekaru no hiro meki" and I always thought by the time he finish saying that wouldn't the bad guys just kill him lol
 
I don't know too much about anime, but there are a few series I enjoy. I'm looking for some recommendations, really, because there just seems to be a ridiculous amount of stuff out there and I have no idea what's worth my time.

As a basis, I've thoroughly enjoyed the R.O.D. OVA and the T.V. series, Get Backers, King of Bandit Jing, and based on descriptions I feel as though I'd enjoy Heat Guy J, which I recently ordered the first three discs of.

Just started watching the Naruto on Hulu and it's the uncut Japanese dub, I think, as it has the original intro/ending with Japanese VA's, which is pretty cool and unexpected.
 
Does anyone have any thoughts towards the other new Hulu show, Mushi-Shi?

There's also yet another tv website showing anime, but I forgot what it was, since I didn't like any of the stuff they initially posted.

Hmm, I've really only seen a couple scenes of R.O.D. OVA.

However, I can suggest to you to look past all the newer animes. They seem to be lacking whatever the older anime shows had. Much of the anime featured on Adult Swim the last couple of years are a good place to start. I believe when Heat Guy J was on their roster, they had shows like Big O (one of my favs) and Kikaider (also a good one). Big O is pretty much Batman with a mech and Kikaider is Pinnochio replaced by an android.

Other noteworthy ones to watch are the films written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, i.e. Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away and the classic Princess Mononoke. Most of those deal with fantasy and folklorish themes.

I'm watching Macross Frontier and so far I'm digging it. So that got me thinking I should probably watch the original but when I go and look at the dvd's available there are like 6 different versions. What do I rent/buy/watch to be able to watch the ORIGINAL JAPANESE Macross series? I don't want any of the Robotech crap/redub, I want the original story with jap audio and english subs. Thanks!
 
I've never sold anime, so I have a question.
I'm looking to sell my Samurai 7 Boxset (the 7 dvds with the box, not the complete collection) and I'm wondering how much I should be asking for it.
I LOVE the show (its in my top 10 for sure) but the Blu-Ray is coming out from Funimation in December.
How much should I sell it for?

Oh yeah, and Code Geass is superb. Part 1 surpassed my expectations and beyond.
 
Speaking of recommendations, I'm looking for an anime on its first season. Soul Eater has spoiled me (I'm not saying it's the end all of anime, but I just like it a whole lots), so I'm looking something with a good level of awesome to get me to fanboy for a bit. Any thoughts?
 
Samurai 7 is a great action series.
Azumanga Daioh is the best comedy on the planet (really! :) )
Gun X Sword is great too.
There are a ton of series of a good level of awesome. Some even have a HUGE level of awesome.
What genre are you looking for?
 
I haven't been watching anime lately. Maybe I have anime overload or something... But I agree, Azumanga Daioh is funny as hell.
