Another note that I remember about last years sale, I had no problem buying some extra stuff I didn't want, holding it for a couple of weeks, and then returning it to exchange for something else. I distinctly remember getting X-Men legends for Cube for lack of anything better, then returning it a few weeks later for Halo 2 when that came out.

Ok important question, I have this giftcard coupon sort of thing, says ten dollars off any TRU purchase of 50 dollars or more valid 10/5 to 10/29. Says its not good for formula, diapers or video game hardware but says nothing in relation to games or combining with other coupons or sales. As in says nothing it doesnt negate it, just doesnt address it. Think Ill be able to use it on the 23rd?

I have one too but it expires on the 22nd, which is pretty useless.

You should be able to use it since it doesn't explicity nor implies that games are excluded.
If you buy two green tagged games, and a third game that is the same price (before discount), the non-GT game rings up free if its scanned last. Basically, it ignores the green tag discount until after the B2G1F is settled.

So for example, I could bring up TimeSplitters: FP ($50 GT), Chaos Theory ($50 GT), and Battalion Wars, and if they ring them up in that order, Battalion Wars would be free.
In addition, and slightly off-topic, the GT glitch is still alive and well. I tested it (demonstrated it) to our store director with the b1g1 board games and he was amazed. He really didn't seem to care though, so it must not hurt the bottom line too much.

BTW - I picked up Trivial Pursuit 90's Edition ($29.99 GT) and Star Wars Monopoly ($29.99) and the total was $15.90. :D

A few questions.

Does TRU carry Devil Kings?

Is Psychonauts (PS2) easy or hard to find at TRU?

Also, is it possible to exchange for a game that they didn't have in stock at the time of the sale, or exchange it at a different store. For example, could I exchange Burnout: Revenge bought at one store for Psychonauts at another one?

I would like to get
Devil Kings
Psychonauts
Soul Calibur 3

So has the policy on exchanging these games for a different one a later date been officially set down?

I know it was mostly OK last time but it has been suggested that it may not be the case this time.
This sale is not as good as its said out to be.
Um, how? It's by two games and get one free on anything that's for a console. How is that not good?

Yeah, how is it not good? previous years I've gotten more games then I really needed.. or ever played.. but still got 'em! for ****'s sake, your saving 50 dollars

Anyways, is the deal really going to be on the 23rd? Sorry, I haven't read the entire thread.. but man, there's so much crap out on the 18th that I plan on picking most of it up during the 3-4-2.

Shadow of the Colossus
DBZ: Tenkaichi
SSX: On Tour
The Warriors
Burnout: Revenge

I'll probably get the ones I really want day of the sale.. then head back the following week and pick up Soul Calibur 3 with 2 of the other games.

Like I said before, people expect to get everything for free (or close to it). These sales have done nothing more than spoil some people, with them expecting the sale to be bigger and better than previous years.

Just be grateful this sale is happening again this year. How many other places hold a sale comparable to this one? None that I can think of.

I don't even think that's it, it's that if each game is $50, you're technically spending $33 per game... alot of these games out now will dive to that price and lower if you give it enough time.

While the deal sounds good in theory, it dosen't work out on paper, unless you are getting three games you know won't drop in price for a good long time, if ever. I mean, getting stuff like Burnout Revenge and The Warriors... that stuff will be alot cheaper then $33 before you know it.

Still a good sale if you play it safe, it's just a shame PSP games aren't included, since those don't seem to drop price or go on sale.

I agree with Roufuss. I nabbed Burnout 3 for 15 bucks 6-7 months after it came out. That's the nice thing about churning out sequels (Burnout, Tony Hawk, Battlefront)... the original game always ends up getting dropped in a hurry.

I try to stay away from buying games over 20 bucks nowadays, since they're bound to get there sometime, particularly with new systems arriving soon. This sale is still good for all games, so I'll get something out of it.

I agree, I'm planning on spending my money on games that are about $30, so technically we get them for $20 each. I also have a few extra gift cards, the $10 off $50 coupon, and some free Geoffrey dollars, so it most likely won't cost me anything afterwards.

I'm looking at this from a some-what different perspective: the very impatient gamer.

As it is, on the 18th I'm set to get 3 games.. if this sale included PC games (quake 4 and FEAR) then I'd be ripping my self off if I didn't just get Stubbs the Zombie in the deal and waited until Sunday. But.. no, PC games aren't included..

anyhow, I see it like this.. waiting sucks (seriously, I hate it) and next week there's an assload of games comming out that I'd love to get my hands on. I can already name 2 games that I'd like to get, knowing my poor spending habbits, there's a good chance I'd probably pick them up soon anyhow.. so why not get a free game along with it? Thats how I view these sorts of sales anyhow.. but that's just me.

And man, I wish Fry's was easier to get too.. I live in Las Vegas, but on the opposite end of where the only Fry's around here is. :'( otherwise I'd be there almost everyday.. probably camp out in the little cafe area.

If they let you buy GT games using this sale, you could technically turn $20 into $81 GR credit by buying three Dead to Rights II (Xbox). You can dream...
Quick question, sorry if it was posted a million times already...

Can you include 2 of the same games in this deal?

Thanks.
Yes. At least some people here did this last time around.

He's right, the deal's not that amazing. Most games will drop, I'd do it and get three $19.99 games for $40 or so. Let's look at last year's B2G1 thread.

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24837

Let's compare then and now to what some people got.

THUG2
XMen Legends
Burnout 3

$49.99 each, their total would be around $110.

Now? THUG2's on sale for $4.99 at BB.com, XML is $9.99 at EB, and Burnout 3 is $19.99. $35 for all three vs. $110.. hmm.. I have patience.

Not everyone has tons of games to play. Not everyone can wait a year. Why would you buy THUG2 now, when American Wasteland is coming out? Why would you buy Burnout 3? That's like saying "I can wait a year for NBA 2K6", well, when that year is over, the game will be completely out of date.

The difference is that Burnout 3 is not out of date. I could be wrong, since I've never played it, but I would guess that THUG2 is also very playable right now. There are a couple of reasons you would want to buy right away: sports is one, and online communities, which I would guess are more active when a game first comes out. I completely understand that end of it.

The only reason I have tons of games on the shelf is because of the ridiculous sales retailers keep putting out there. The past few games I've been playing include Burnout 3, Mechassault 2, SW: Battlefront, and Psi-Ops. Total cost to me was about 50 bucks, and these are all 1-2 year old games. When I think of it that way, it's easier to be patient when the Christmas rush of games hits.
If DS games are included, I'm there.
Did you read the title? I wish DS games were included too...

Yep Burnout 3 is still as great as ever. Waiting a year may make a sports game out of date, but any other genre holds its own, or should if it is a good game. Also many series you should pick up the older before the newer. For example the Ratchet & Clank games certainly are great games on their own, but if you play the games in order the characters and overall story ties in much better.

I also never pick up $50 games in this sale, just not worth it when games drop so fast. I may be behind in games, but I have a lot of games that I payed very little for.

To play devil's advocate, let's examine another trio from this same list...

Paper Mario 2
Pikmin 2
GTA: San Andreas

While you will find dips here and there (especially preowned), these three are still all retailing at close to $50 at almost every major retailer I looked at (GameStop, TRU, GoGamer, etc.)

Now, to be fair, I suspect that next year's rolling out of the PS3 and Revolution, combined with next month's Xbox 360 launch, will start putting a cramp on prices, and certainly more "sequel-hungry" franchises will drop faster, too, like a Prince of Persia or a Tony Hawk game. Same with games (i.e. Killer7) that sell poorly.

It's true that you can wait on pretty much any non-Nintendo game and it can be bought cheaper in 6 months than what you can figure for this deal. But I want to play Romancing SaGa and Shadow of the Colossus now, throw Sly 3 in there for a $27 average price and that's tolerable for me. In 6 months I'm expecting to be playing Shadow Hearts 3, Kingdom Hearts 2 and whatever else is planned that I'm probably forgetting right now. Sure I could wait, but I need something to tide me over til DQVIII and those 2 have had my eye for a while...

Bottom line, if you want to play the new games and not have to wait months or a year then you are looking at a gold mine on this sale. If you're patient and have a crapload of games still in shrink wrap waiting to be unsealed (like me! ) then you should definitely save your cash for when the prices drop in coming months. Either way, both parties win, the people that want to play games now get a deal and save $50 on em and the people who want to be truly cheap (which is why we're all on this board right? ) can still get a good deal with the $19.99 games and below (or abuse the GT glitch if it works again). Stop beating a dead horse and filling up this thread with pointless debate about this.

GT glitch still worked as of this past Friday, with the B1G1 board games. Chances are, it's not going to be fixed anytime soon, if at all.
I'm interested in this as well. Anyone?
They wouldn't count an eye toy play package last year for b2g1, but Time Crisis might be different.
Help a noob out, what's the GT glitch?
You can hand the cashier any Green Tag games you have first and you'll get a nonGT game for free. So, I buy 2 copies of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles for GC. I also want Fire Emblem for GC. Well, I hand the 2 copies of FFCC and then the Fire Emblem. I get FE for free and the 2 copies of FFCC for $50 since they're GT'd at $50 each. Your total total is $50.

Got it? ;)

I'm thinking Guilty Gear Isuka(greentag), Phantom Brave(greentag) and We Love Katamari....3 good games for $30, if the glitch works.

thats not gonna work, the registers automatically charge you for the two most espensive games and gives you the cheapest one for free... there is no way around it...

Negatory.... Final Fantasy:Crystal Chronicals is a $49.99GT. and Fire Emblem is a $49.99 game. The GT glitch WILL end up giving FE free if they are scanned into the register with the GT games being first.

Like it's been said 100 times before, the glitch doesn't take the discount GT price into consideration until the everything has been totalled up, after the free game is been issued. Either the least expensive OR the last game scanned of equal priced games will be the free one.
Don't know if this has been mentioned, but check the TRU ad in Sunday's paper for a coupon for $10 off a purchase of $50 or more.
Surely it would say something like the following though, "cannot to be combined with any other offer"

Right?

I plan on picking up Fire Emblem, Shadow of the Colossus and Grand Theft Auto Trilogy...Technically that will be 5 Games, so it averages to $20 per game. And I can keep my PS2 version of San Andreas in it's shrink wrap!

Do you want to know the sad (or pathetic) thing about this? I got GTA:SA as my free game at LAST YEAR'S B2G1 SALE!!!
Surely it would say something like the following though, "cannot to be combined with any other offer"

Front:
"$10 off any Toys R Us purchase of $50 or more. Valid 10/5-10/29/05."

Back:
Excludes diapers, formula, video game hardware and "R" US Git Cards. Not available online. Limit one per customer.

It also says not valid with any other "R" US offer for same item. Don't know if that counts.
While the deal sounds good in theory, it dosen't work out on paper, unless you are getting three games you know won't drop in price for a good long time, if ever.
true but I've tried being careful by mostly buying RPGs & Atlus games and it still doesn't work, I was able to find games like Phantom Brave, Star Ocean 3, Suikoden 3, La Pucelle for $20 a few months later, this year I'm just gonna buy the $20 & $30 games
Is there any links to a $10 off coupon that can be printed out? Might have to buy the paper if there isnt.
Don't think so. It's not a coupon you cut out. It's more of a laminated card attached to the ad.

On a personal note, I'm thinking of getting Shadow of the Colossus, Battlefield 2: MC, and can't think of the third. Any suggestions? I'm thinking of a new release, and already have SOCOM 3 and not interested in Soul Calibur 3 (hated the PS2 controller for SC2, hopefully it'll get released on Cube later on).

Does the "glitch" require two of the same game like has been described or can it be two seperate green tag games? I'd rather get something like say something like Capcom vs. SNK for $15 (half off $30), another green tagged game at the same price, and then get Ninja Gaiden Black for free.
