Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

SPECIAL NOTE (B1G1 free on $14.99 and under used games through August 4th):
All used games under $14.99 are buy one get one free through August 4th NOW OVER.

The second post has games that you may want to trade in to Gamestop to transfer some credit from BB to GS. Unfortunately with the end of the $10 extra promo at Gamestop this is much less useful than before. Some people may have the $15 bonus coupon or want to use the current GS deal (trade 3 get an extra 10%, trade 4 get an extra 20%, trade 5 get an extra 30%) so we'll keep that post going until the B1G1 free ends at Blockbuster.

Even though the B1G1 sale is now over, I'm leaving this info up for a few days for those who bought stuff and still want to trade it in to Gamestop (you have till the 10th there).

SPECIAL NOTE #2 (DS Lite's and new DS games now available at most BB stores!):
Starting just on July 15th, most Blockbuster stores got shipments of DS Lites and a wide assortment of new DS games that they've never had for sale in the past. Titles include NSMB, Professor Layton, Mario Party DS, and High School Musical ;).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are currently taking preorders for NCAA 09, Madden 09, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, Soul Calibur IV, and a few others (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means [hightlight]regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. They just started in mid July selling DS Lites at most stores as well. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by many regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.
do they keep track of which games you trade in?

like, if i don't trade multiples to the same store, will they be alarmed if i trade in my multiples at different stores? or will that raise a red flag?
You can trade X to BlockBuster #1, take another copy of X to BlockBuster #2, and neither will ever know.

Today, I traded a copy of F4 (Wii) - $30, Viva Pinata (360) - $8, and FarCry Instincts Predator (360) - $8.

Not too bad for my first go.

yo, Rabbi, what you been usin your credit on?

also...if you DO decide to "transfer" credit over from BBV to GS, can GS track which games you're trading in to other neighboring GS's?

I think I'm gonna save up for a PSTripple :cool: Might grab some Fall 360 games though (Fable 2, Gears 2).

As for the second question, I don't know. I haven't done anything with GameStop in years.

I don't think so - or if they do, they don't care. Remember, GS is in the business of accepting used games in for trades and prices them accordingly, so they don't really care how many you trade (except that they usually don't take more than 1 of a game at a time). This is in stark contrast to Blockbuster where they freak out if they discover you trade more than 1...

Anyway, had a moderately successful run this evening. First of all, it was a great time to be out - the freeways were empty, as were Target and Gamestop. Very very nice in cotrast to a typical Friday afternoon/evening!

I traded SMB and Far Cry (from TRU) to GS with the $15 coupon and got $27.10 total for those. Then I bought Fatal Inertia for $16.24 and Harry Potter OotP (PS3) new for $9.99. I took those to the neighboring Blockbuster and for $48 for them. So effectively I turned $8 spent at TRU into $48 at Blockbuster. I bought a Wall-E toy for my son there and checked out the used game selection. Even though I hit this store early for xfer material they had a ton more stuff - looks like they got more in or something (or converted more rentals). Problem is, I wasn't going to go to this side of town for my one day I have available to hit up the sale here next week (Tuesday - the day it starts). But I may have to change my plans...

Although much of their stuff wasn't priced properly (Golden Compass was $19.99 for example), I found several more sub-$14.99 things. Some of these may be even cheaper given how out of date some of the other pricing was.

:360:
TMNT $14.99 -> ??
Stuntman Ignition $14.99 -> $11.60
Test Drive Unlimited $14.99 -> $11.60
(the two above make a nice pair for the $15 bonus coupon and they had several of each - probably that way at many stores)
Forza $14.99 -> $9.40
College Hoops 2K6 $4.99 (won't work for GS but someone may want it that cheap anyway)
PD0 $9.99 -> $1.10 (don't get this one for GS!)
Full Auto $14.99 -> $9.40

I'll update the OP later - gotta get ready to go see fireworks with the kids!

For GS, other stores, and district managers can see items that you've traded by your receipt number, so I'm sure theres gotta be some kind of system that can show all trades done under your account.

After today's events Im at somewhere around $600 BB and $180 GS credit. I think i'm good as far as BB credit goes for the upcoming sale. $600 BB credit would get me 112 $9.99 games after tax. Its probably best to wait until Sunday when we find out whether all the games we are planning on flipping from BB to GS go up to $15.99+ or not.

Blockbuster is turning the Gamepass into a Game & Movie pass, so basically you'll be able to get either 1 game or 1 movie out at a time. From what I was told, there will either be a notification Monday of it happening soon, or the process WILL happen on Monday.

does any one in utah still successfully trade in FFs? Utah's BBs have been informed about the FFs being sold for $4 at TRU. And I can't get my last copy to trade in at any BB even at the one i've never been to before >.> Trying to get some credit to buy my own MGS4.

is Harry Potter for PS3 part of the gamedays sale? I Havn't been really looking in the bin during these last clearance days sales

hmm, might have to take the "transfer" slowly then...

also, depending on the price the gamepass+moviepass combination sounds great

i hope it's around $20 per month or something, that would be nice

Could someone please PM me a hotlink to the bonus $15 coupon? Friggin' CAG 2.0 craps out on me randomly, and that's one of the pages it won't let me view. Thanks!

Just thought I'd give you guys a heads up, I printed out our game reprices for the week. Nothing will be bumped to $16.99 for the sale. If it is at $14.99 it will stay at that price this week. Also Connan and Juiced 2 for x360 are dropping to $14.99 on Sunday.

only time will tell, there is a base list of the blue highlighted games on page 1, plus you can get am extra 15 on top. I Didn't notice HP for PS3 was going for 9.99 I guess I overlooked the bin

OK, a bit off-topic, but I just spent some BB/GR credit on a metallic rose DS for my daughter. Get it home, charge it up...and the charger plug is stuck in the DS and won't come out.

I'm just slightly irritated.

Looks like I'm calling Nintendo tomorrow later this morning.
is Harry Potter for PS3 part of the gamedays sale? I Havn't been really looking in the bin during these last clearance days sales
Yes. I put that in the OP earlier ;). Plus, the reason I picked it up is that just on the very page before this one (this post: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4569664&postcount=1583) toocool17 pointed that out and provided the BB trade-in price ($16). Normally I wouldn't bother with turning $10 at GS into $16 at BB but with the amount I plan to transfer back during the sale I figured it wouldn't hurt. Plus I now have more GS credit than I know what to do with. I may actually buy Rock Band with it :lol:. But, anyway, I would think this game is very readily available at just about any GS. There were about 5 of them in the bin at the one I went to tonight.
hmm, might have to take the "transfer" slowly then...
I wouldn't worry about it. Like I said, they don't care (at Gamestop). They want your trades and as long as you aren't blatantly taking advantage of loopholes you'll be OK. The only time I ever heard of anyone being banned from trading into Gamestop was when they went overboard buying cheap games using B2G1 and then immediately trading them in with a $10 bonus deal similar to the current one (but it was last gen). They were doing this repeatedly at the same handful of stores and they finally put a stop to it. Otherwise they take all the trades they can get as it makes their "numbers" look good. Blockbuster stores have no such incentive.
I added these to the OP along with the others I found. If you could find any more games priced under $14.99 that aren't listed there I'd appreciate it (360, Wii, PS3 only of course) - not necessarily new drops but anything that might otherwise be mistagged at most stores.
only time will tell, there is a base list of the blue highlighted games on page 1, plus you can get am extra 15 on top.
Um, let's be clear here - the prices in the OP already include the $10 bonus + Edge. The $15 bonus (which would apply only to the blue highlighted games) would only add $2.50 per game on top of that.
Is anyone else having trouble viewing the OP? I can't access any other pages in this thread.
Nope. Just updated it with all the cheap games I found + the drops Bigjames reported.
oh they sell new games now? i havent been to a BB in a year or so, and the last time i went they didn't sell any Recent titles...only like Greatest Hits titles and platinum hits titles...

will do though
Wow, you really haven't been in in a while, have you?

They actually got rid of all new games for while and stopped carrying the GH and PH titles. For about 6 months to a year (non-GR) Blockbusters were barren wastelands and I was really fretting about what to do with my credit - I was about to hit up CAGs with GR's near them to spend my credit for me ;).

But then about 6 months ago they started carrying the very newest games and then followed that up with some hardware. They now carry all 3 current consoles and lots of accessories (and points cards and the like). And regular Blockbusters now do preorders for a handful of games (Madden, NCAA 09, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and a few others). I got SSBB, Mario Kart, and Wii Fit all brand new from my little local Blockbuster store. Most currently have Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Guitar Hero for the DS, and Rock Band for the Wii in stock. Get with the times, man!

Maybe if the BB/Circuit City deal happens we could use our credit @CC! Now that would be the best thing ever for all the flippers!!
Maybe if the BB/Circuit City deal happens we could use our credit @CC! Now that would be the best thing ever for all the flippers!!
They said on G4 the other day that the merger will not go through. It's not going to happen :cry:
They said on G4 the other day that the merger will not go through. It's not going to happen :cry:
GameFaq forums are more reliable.

Blockbuster pretty much dropped its bid to buy CC a couple of days ago. CC kept posting bigger losses, and BB withdrew the offer due to "market conditions." It's still a possibility for the future, but not for some time.

That being said, I hope to god this deal goes through eventually, too.

i posted the price of :360:Far Cry Predator along with its GS TIV a couple pages back...in case you missed it, it costs $14.99 and nets you $10.50 at GS...

on another note...:360:Turning Point: Fall of liberty looks like it might be flippable...its $29.99 used but its $49.99 new at GS...i dint have time to call BBV for its TIV yesterday...i'll call them up later and post it unless somebody does it before i do...

Anyone traded in Alvin and the Chimpmunks for the Wii lately, the last update was back on 2-5-08 in the Wiki? Its $5 at TRU (or $4), and my GRs and BB will not give trade in quotes over the phone. Can some either let me know the value, or give me the number of a GR that will give trade ins over the phone, then we can put that in the OP.

WOW, my BBV has officialy turned into a GS!! when i went to get my Wii yesterday I was asked

BBVlady: "would you like to pre order a copy of Madden 2009?"
Me: "no thanks I don't play madden"
BBVlady: "But if you preorder we will add you into a drawing for a free copy"
Me:(thinking)"I don't want 1 copy, so why would i want 2?"
Me: "Maybe I'll preorder next time im in(works everytime..makes em shut-up)"

After my traditional Saturday morning ritual of going over my receipts at Starbucks (my accounting and finance classes are corrupting me) I've realized that I've flipped 8 copies of fantastic 4 to 5 different BBVs, turning $32--->240 store credit. Is this the best flip ever? In terms of highest ratio and most available?

I think this has to be one of the highest ever. $4->$30 is 7.5X profit. I think Red Ninja $9->$36 was the best before this.

I was having tons of issues until I switched back to 20 posts per page. I haven't had any issues since.

My manager buddy has confirmed that this Monday the new game/moviepass program will start. It will be the same price as the gamepass ($21.95/month) and basically you can either have 1 game out or 1 movie out at a time. People who currently have a gamepass will be converted over. However, the changes will not go into effect until your next billing date.

Dumped my last 4 Fatal Inertias and picked up another Viking & Condemed 2. I'm up to almost $800 BB credit.

I stopped by the closest GS just now, and they only had Harry Potter: OoTP for $10.

Condemned 2 $26.99 (or $17.54 with 25% + Edge) -> $32
Fatal Interia $24.99 (or $16.24 with 25% + Edge) -> $32
History Channel Battle for the Pacific $24.99 (or $16.24 with 25% + Edge) -> $25
Sega Superstar Tennis $17.99 (or $12.75 with 25% + Edge) -> $25
Viking $26.99 (or $17.54 with 25% + Edge) -> $32

Fantastic Four RoSS $17.99 ($16.19 with Edge) -> $30

Harry Potter OotP $9.99 new -> $16

No, it was $9->$45 for Red Ninja so the FF:RoSS is better. Only if you were able to do it when we first found out about it with Red Ninja.

Monster Madness :360: was $4.xx->$28.50 if you matched it at Sears. Not too shabby either.

Ok I hit my 5 local GS in the past 2 days and saw exactly ZERO Fatal Interias (not even a new copy) and one used F4 wii which I bought today since it pretty much doubles with my tax credit.. Today I grabbed a few more Vikings and Condemned 2s. Dumped everything already except for one Condemned 2 it looks pretty good and I enjoyed the first one. Grabbed a DS system and rented Battlefield Bad Company with my credit from today. Luckily they forgot to put out the rental cases so they were all in stock even with the holiday weekend upon us. :D

Any NKY locals (i know there a a few lurkers :p) the only GS around with Condemned 2 is the GS on Mall Road that sits beside HWV/Gamecrazy, they still have 4-5?.. They got one more Aerosmith and one more Viking and 2 more Ninja Gaiden 2 360s on the shelf as well.. I'm out of the Condemned & Viking businiess unless the price holds again... I've got another gameplan set for tuesday and the b1g1 sale. :D

Also asked about the game/movie pass and it starts MONDAY wanted to go ahead and do it since I was renting Bad Company anyway but no dice... Oh well lol...

The ratio is pretty good but it loses on availability for me, anyway. I had to do a 70 mile round trip just to get the 5 that I traded. There were none at my two local TRUs. I may check again today at one of them to be absolutely sure I didn't miss them up front or something.

It is tough to beat the 7.5x ratio though ;).

I'm gonna print out the entire TIV list in the GS thread and when I make my rounds on Monday, mark off which games are under $14.99.

I already know that Conan (360) will be $7.50 -> $13, which is not bad at all.

Of course, its sticking in the back of my head that I wont even be able to make it to Blockbuster til after I get off of work at 5pm. If i dont work a full day on Monday I wont be getting paid for having the 4th of july off. Argh.

Decided I'd go out an attempt to get Alone in the Dark for the 360 with nothing more than about $15 in refunded credit from a GS purchase nearly a week ago, a few low-grade trades, and about $5 in cash. Here's how it all went down....

Walked a few blocks to the bus to get to closest group of Gamestops. Made my returns and purchased Wii F4 with the $15 in credit and about a dollar-something more. Checked all three GS's assuming I'd be able to find tons of used copies of Alone in the Dark for later due to the poor reviews... none found. Took a bus to a Blockbuster and traded:

f4 (wii): $30
MLB 2k6 (360): $2
PGR3 (360): $2

Picked up the best I could find for GS, holding onto some credit for another BB: Meet the Robinsons and Beautiful Katamari. Walked 8 blocks to a nearby Gamestop and unloaded for about $21 in credit. Checked for AitD... no. Took a train and then walked about 12 blocks to another Gamerush. First found EDF and Lego SW II- both were "defective" i.e. not in stock (the guy almost gave me Lego SW: complete saga.) Ended up getting Shrek III and Smackdown vs Raw 07 (07, right?). Took two buses to another GS and unloaded those, getting close to $38 in credit now total (added to the previous balance). The son-of-a-bitch doing the trade added refurbishing fees (Smackdown was a bit spotty, but the Shrek looked fine. :argue: Used this weeks coupon and got a Viking (360) and a Perfect Dark 0 collector's ed.; picked up another Wii F4. Obviously no AitD there either...

Walked about 10 blocks to my local Blockbuster and traded the FF4 again and:

Viking (360) - $32
Perfect Dark 0 collector's ed. (360) - $6 (good thing he didn't notice the missing bonus disk...)

So ended up getting a new copy of AitD and 2 $4 dvds.:applause:

This would have been sooooooo much easier had I been able to find F4 at my local TRUs#-o

(Note: to lazy to look up the exact amounts for the games flipped from Blockbuster to Gamerush, but rest assured they were identical to what's posted on the first page.)

Bought a Viking at the mall today. They didn't have Condemned 2 so I'll have to make a detour on my bike ride tomorrow morning. Will be trading them both in tomorrow.

only managers were working today and they all new not to xcept print outs of the bonu 15. oh well, gs has been good to me so whatever bonus 10 is still cool, considering its all going to viking/c2/sst/fi lolers
anyone on the west coast seen any signs about a B1G1 at BB or gamerush?
they didn't have any signs or posters about the B1G1 here in diego...but i talked to all the managers of the BBVs i frequent and they all told me that its a go on monday...

i hit a couple of GS today and found a few copies of condemned 2...only one store had viking...at one of the stores...they had the $15 extra credit cards right at the counter...i asked the employee if i could take some..my reason was i had a lot of games i wanted to trade in...he said i could take all of them...i got about 12 of the cards...i could use these at the GSs that won't accept my printed copies...

wtf, i went to the blockbuster closest to me and all the used games they have are xbox and ps2 games...and there's only like 20 or 25 of them...TOTAL!

no 360 games (used at least) whatsoever..and 2 of the blockbusters i used to frequent shut down...this sucks!

oh well. I did turn 104 cash to 190 credit...i guess that's okay
