Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

SPECIAL NOTE (B1G1 free on $14.99 and under used games through August 4th):
All used games under $14.99 are buy one get one free through August 4th NOW OVER.

The second post has games that you may want to trade in to Gamestop to transfer some credit from BB to GS. Unfortunately with the end of the $10 extra promo at Gamestop this is much less useful than before. Some people may have the $15 bonus coupon or want to use the current GS deal (trade 3 get an extra 10%, trade 4 get an extra 20%, trade 5 get an extra 30%) so we'll keep that post going until the B1G1 free ends at Blockbuster.

Even though the B1G1 sale is now over, I'm leaving this info up for a few days for those who bought stuff and still want to trade it in to Gamestop (you have till the 10th there).

SPECIAL NOTE #2 (DS Lite's and new DS games now available at most BB stores!):
Starting just on July 15th, most Blockbuster stores got shipments of DS Lites and a wide assortment of new DS games that they've never had for sale in the past. Titles include NSMB, Professor Layton, Mario Party DS, and High School Musical ;).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are currently taking preorders for NCAA 09, Madden 09, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, Soul Calibur IV, and a few others (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means [hightlight]regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. They just started in mid July selling DS Lites at most stores as well. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by many regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

That was Me!!!

How long does it usually take you guys to flip at GS's I went up north 15 miles once, and back took me the whole day if not at least 3-4 hours when hitting 4-5 GS. This is of course stopping by 2-3 BB's along the way too of course.

edit: also, I forgot to mention I took my gf's younger brother with me to GS. How the hell do you keep your kid from going nuts at GS io? He was flipping out, but the employees were fine with it. And by flipping out I mean he was excited, not annoying or anything.
Well, like I said before my kids are probably the only ones in the country that dread going to game stores. They really used to hate Gamerush because I'd often stop there on the way home from dinner or movies and such and they just wanted to go home. They were somewhat glad, I think, when it shut down . My son was a bit excited today only because he's all into Guitar Hero (since I just bought that bundle last week) and now he is curious about Rock Band so he wanted to try it out on the demo system. So, anyway, it's no big deal to him in general because he's surrounded by gaming stuff at home. I mean, the closet in my office rivals the behind-the-counter stock at any GS! I tried to get them to watch some E3 stuff with me tonight and they were only mildly interested in Animal Crossing and Guitar Hero.

Completely off topic (even more), but I was shocked the Rock Band demo wasn't on XBL. WTF?

Well, I left the house at 5:30 and got THPG and Soldier of Fortune from my local store. Then I drove 16 miles to a BB I had never been to before. I got 10 games there and as usual it takes a while to dig the games out and inspect them. Then I stopped at another on the way to the Mall (only got 2 games there). Spent some time at the Mall doing my trades (14 games over 6 transactions to use the coupon) and eating dinner and going to a few other stores. Then I hit up another BB that had nothing. Then another 20 miles or so to get home. I got home at about 9:45. So just over 4 hours. Note that I had my 8 year-old with me and did at least an hour of non-game related stuff. You really ought to be able to go much faster by yourself!

Well, now that I think about it, it happens a lot. Kids excited in a game store, so many "Can we buy this mom!?!? Please!??! Please?!?" I guess we tend to drown it out, except when you know the kid, then you acutally pay attention to him/her ;)

Near my Mom's house there are 3 GSs all in a 1 mile area. There are 2 GSs that are right across the street from each other. The other one is about a mile away going west. I can flip 24-30 games in about 20-25 minutes. I've done it twice.

Actually getting the games at BB takes longer though. The most games I have found at a BB at one time is 12. I usually find 2-4 games at each BB where they actually have a decent collection of used games. I've done all my flipping in a 12 mile radius from my home. There are other BBs just outside of that but haven't had the time or energy to get to them. I'm still thinking about making one last big run.

BB credit - just under $300
GS credit - just above $370

I bought GTA 4, Civ Revo, BK, Wild Arms 4 PS2 and a SC pre-oder at BB. At GS, I have about 4 games pre-ordered and have bought a crap load of used games (PS3, 360, PSP, GC and PS2) to add to my ever growing collection (read: backlog). If I had not bought anything my total credit would have been at around $1100. I would post more exact numbers (as Io has or will do) but with all the time spent flipping and browsing on CAG, I doubt the wife and kids would be happy with me spending quality time with a bunch of receipts.

There's so much flipping going on in the thread, I feel like such a peon being here.
I picked up Sega Rally Revo (for a friend and one for me) Beautiful Katamari (awesome price at 5 bucks, I was sad that TRU ran out but really happy when I found the last one) and some game called Spirit Dancer for PS2 to make the B1G1 happen with Katamari.
These B1G1 sales that happen at Blockbuster every so often are very nice-- I suspect there's better selection in Gamerush stores, but for Arizona Blockbuster is all we have. I've been pleasantly surprised with the game finds in Blockbuster. There was even a 14.99 copy of Final Fantasy Tactics (sadly without its original case or insert) for PSP I would have gotten if there was another 14.99 game.

Does anyone have a list of Wii and PS3 titles? There's so many 16.99 titles, especially for Wii, that I wish were 14.99... I tried a few titles, but they were correctly labelled.

It wasn't really like can I get this or what not, since I've gotten a lot of games recently and I've given him a few, like that avatar game for the wii I found at bb. I guess he was just giddy to be in a game store, but he's pretty cheap and money conscious for a 6 yr old, plus after about 5 minutes of him looking at the games he found the consoles to play on. I was sort of afraid he'd give me away since he knows of that I go to GS and BB to flip games, not sure he understands how though, but all he knows is I have a bunch of GS credit and likes to go flipping with me since he knows I'll grab some cheap games for him, since I'm not paying for them, just credit. I love paying with credit, I have played a lot of games I would have never played before if I had to "pay" for them. Ratchet, Boom Blox, and Lego Star Wars are a few.

I'm getting giddy myself waiting for my madden psp bundle to come in, I've been watching some reviews and I cant wait to try the remote play stuff out since I got a lot of movies on my ps3, and "free" wifi at my college, I've been bringing my DS, but If I can watch movies and play games, I'll take both with the psp. Anyone tried it out, I'm afraid that my connection will be too slow for it to work the way I imagine.

also about the fallout 3 soundtrack I got for the preorder. I popped it in on the way to GS, after 5 songs, the kid goes "thats it" since it had gone back to track one. Only 5 songs, but ehh it was free.

OK, just for fun I came up with some totals.

Spiderman 3 traded before B1G1: 9
Spiderman 3 traded during B1G1: 10

Virtua Tennis 3 traded before B1G1: 4
Virtua Tennis 3 traded during B1G1: 8

PSU traded before B1G1: 1
PSU traded during B1G1: 5

I think those have the most, though BK, Shrek 3, and MtR come close. Note that I did plenty of credit transferring before B1G1 happened because I was sure it wasn't going to happen before the original $10 GS promo deadline (which it didn't). But then the $10 promo got extended and B1G1 came about and I had to do it all over again so I didn't feel like I wasted all those previous trips ;).

There aren't any PS3 or Wii games that qualify - they marked them all up to $16.99 a few weeks ago in preparation. Also, weird that you picked up "Spirit Dancer" as I saw that at a store today too and had never heard of it before. Also, I was supposed to be in Arizona this week for work and was going to do all this down there (in Tucson though) but they cancelled the trip (rescheduled for August now). At least I didn't have to worry about sales tax running around here but on the flip side I was hoping to use the company car rental to drive around to BB's and GS's ;). When I'm there in August there will probably be nothing to do - that's cool, I can catch up on my DS backlog!

thats a lot of spidey 3s. I've only found 3 so far total and no vt3. I did find 5 PSU at my local BB, thats what started my flipping out.

edit: also out of curiosity..

before this b1g1 thing and back to back 25% off GS coupons, coming from someone who started with the 360 GS coupon 2 weeks back, how much were you making off flipping, credit wise of course? I'm probably done flipping until after I get my psp 8/12, then I'll need to build up some more credit for all the Q4 releases.

And like I said I left many others. I mean, there were stores (all regular BB's where these were just converted rentals and not trade-ins I'm pretty sure) where they had up to 8 copies.

I'm up to $550 GS credit and $100 BBV credit and a copy of Mana Khemia for PS2. Not bad for a starting point of $50 GS credit.

Anyways, gotta call it quits. I've maxed out the amount of trading I can do as an employee and still fly under the radar. Depending on Friday's coupon from GS, I might have to push it just a little. We'll see what it is first.

I also nominate Soldier of Fortune: Payback, Tony Hawk's Proving Ground, and Spiderman: Friend or Foe. Found at least two of each at almost every BB I've been to.

Picked up a few PSP games yesterday. X-Men Legends II & Ape Escape, $10.00 total. Pretty sweet I thought, they were both complete, too. I almost bought a no manual X-Men from G$ for $11.99 just last weekend, glad I waited.

A little suggestion for those with Eye of Judgment and worry about being able to trade it in. Rip off the part of the cover that says 'Includes PS Eye'. As a test, I did this at 3 stores, they looked at the tear (the back of the manual is visible, so the color kinda sticks out), but didn't even ask about it.) If they do ask, just tell them there was a sticker on there and you accidentally ripped it when taking it off.

I think I'm done with the promotion. I'm currently at $280 BB & $30 GS. While I can probably find the flips, I've hit up just about every store twice, and am honestly getting kind of tired. Here is my grand total for the last 3 weeks:

$210 cash (15 fatal inertias) & $120 GS Credit -> $750 BB credit
I've turned that $750 BB credit into :

2 Nintendo Wii's
4 MGS4 LE's
$500+ worth of other games for myself & Goozex.

and I've got $280 left in BB credit and $30 left in GS.

I only wish I could've found more MGS4 LE's. These things sell like hotcakes (i even sold one for $110 before shipping)

Heh, only twice? There's a few Blockbusters and Gamestops that have resorted to saying "You again?" when I walk in. If I can get through today and Thursday without a hitch (doubtful) I'll be done flipping for this month simply because I'm going to be cleaning out the BBVs of trade titles now. Still can't wait for that last BBV that's untouched, but I need to hit up the others to build credit up for that. I've decided I'm going to do three transactions at the last place. One for 6.99s, one for 9.99s, and one for 14.99s to avoid having the whole transaction go tits up when I'm trying to buy 20+ games.

When this is all over I'll post my entire haul. It's pretty big and I've still got more to get.

when you try to use the extra $15 coupon, do you have a printed one or use the one that they have in the store? because the one in the store "CLEARLY" says for Preorders only. So do you just try it? or rip that part out? let me know thanks

Did u buy them new or used?

Ugh. Here is the scan of the $15 bonus coupon courtesy of djkunai which was buried in the GS $10 thread if only some of you guys would take the actual time to search for it. ;\

sc05ea8715.jpg

Print, cut out, don't ruin it for the rest of us by pressing the issue if they don't take it or not cutting it out properly and leaving proof of the scan noted at the bottom of the coupon.

Acceptance is YMMV because most GS should have read the memo about it by now, but some managers are cool and either don't care or confuse it with a regular e-mail coupon if you have your 25% PS3 coupon with you and accept it anyway. Good luck.

Last edited by a moderator:
am I the only one who hasn't tried to press the issue with that coupon? I used it once (legit cause I preordered NCAA for my friend).

Oh, and I think all the BBs near me are pretty much dry. The only things left are the 14.99 games but I think those flips aren't nearly as good as the 9.99 ones.

I picked up TH:proving Ground & Soldier of Fortune (360 both) for $14.99...yeah. Flipped already.

ALSO...THE SALE IS BEING EXTENDED UNTIL 7/28! (not sure if that has been mentioned yet).

Also this doesn't seem to work if you want to trade in $4 games or less and get the $10 bonus and throw in some that are at least $5 or more to get the $15 bonus. The transaction has to be done seperately somehow the sytem doesn't do it. At least not for me.

Are you serious? I go back home on the 23rd - that might just give me enough time to start over in a brand new part of the state, far, far away from here. Although the GS promo will be done on the 20th, so I don't know.

How can that be? Aren't most store picked clean by now?:)

Picked clean of the GOOD stuff.

Anyways, I had a field day in Annapolis when I went there for a Dental appointment.

I cashed out guys. Bought PS3 MGS4 bundle and a Wii Fit. Probably put in about $200-$250 from my pocket. It could've been like $120-$200 out of pocket but I bought Wii Fit on an impulse and had to pay $80 out of pocket because I didn't have enough credit at GS. I still have $60 in BB credit too. I also kept Stranglehold, Beautiful Katamari, Lego Star Wars 2, Turok and Xenosaga 3.

I'm ccurrently debating on whether I should trade in Turok or not.

All in all, great week. Thanks CAG! I hope the stars align again like they have been.

I always trade in a stack of four games in $10 bonus and $15 bonus pairs. Never had any problems with the transaction. Only when I was forced to trade in a stack of all $15 bonus games did the computer try to apply the $15 bonus to all games and thus a separate transaction was necessary.

Weird. >_>

spent $690.52 store credit from TRU, Gamestop
turned it into 1305.52 Blockbuster store credit
and finally came out with $1893.60 store credit.
Bought hefty amount of Metal Gear PS3 Bundles
planning on selling them on craigslist, getting Cash.
Best part of all, no cash was used, well except for gas. I wish Shell took Gamestop giftcards.
whoo.

I would love to know how much time it took you to do all that. I took $200 out of pocket and turned it into 1,000, and that was with hitting 3 entirely different cities in 6 days.

I hope no one posted this yet, want to add something.

Gamestop.com shows Blacksite Area 51 for PS3 used dropped to $24.99
With coupon and edge it's $16.25 ----> 33 at BB.

Hook up the printers and burn some coupons today and tomorrow.

They may lower some game prices on Sunday, so the extension of the sale could be beneficial. I saw some USED DS games at one of my GR's, but they were behind a glass case and no price was shown, only the spine.

Anyone know the USED price of Trauma Center for the DS (the 1st one I believe)?
I hope no one posted this yet, want to add something.

Gamestop.com shows Blacksite Area 51 for PS3 used dropped to $24.99
With coupon and edge it's $16.25 ----> 33 at BB.

Hook up the printers and burn some coupons today and tomorrow.
yup...i bought a copy this morning...i was wondering why i got Blacksite area 51 and EoJ for only $38.70...when i checked my receipt...it was $16.25...i was pretty surprised..

If I take in my receipt, will they give me the difference on Blacksite? I don't have the game any more to ruturn and rebuy... I wonder where the game went??? ;)

It's only like $6, but it's not like I won't be at a gamestop anyways... :)
spent $690.52 store credit from TRU, Gamestop
I wish Shell took Gamestop giftcards.
whoo.
I wish every place took GS or BB giftcards. Everytime I have to pay full price for anything I always think about how much cheaper I could've bought it if I could just use store credit.

What does GS do if a game doesn't have a manual? A little fee I suppose? Sorry if this has been answered, I saw something about $0.50 for cases but didn't really understand

Buy another copy and return it with the first receipt.

Hit a goldmine of a store last night. Picked up 13 Spider-man 3 and 5 Spider-man FOF since I only had $110 on my value card, flipped them all this morning before work for $234 (the best manager in all of GS is there- I've given them over 30 copies of Spider-man 3 and he still scans the $15 bonus without hesitation). I'm going back tonight to swipe another couple $hundred of games and call up Hawaii in the process to make sure the deal is still alive. Then I'll eat some cake.
To the CAG in Los Angeles that memorized the coupon code and cried at Gamestop when they wouldn't let him use it....priceless.
Which store?

Sounds similar to a situation I had, except I just told them I was going to call the DM and ask why they were refusing to sell used inventory. I waited two minutes while the MOD called another store and they let me do it.

Seriously though- I'm not going to print out 10 coupons each week. It's just wasteful.

wtf,

first of all, a single store had 13 Spidey 3's?????? damn, what a goldmine
second of all, one store let you flip all of them at once! along with the $15 on all of them????

wow, that right there is a best case scenario as far as flipping goes...most efficient & effective flip i've read thus far
most efficient & effective flip i've read thus far
It's a store I rarely visit since it's so far away, and when I went in I was shocked since it was clear no CAG had been there. I also stacked a pile of 20 more games (Stranglehold, THPG, SRR, etc) that are a slightly less profit for when I return tonight.
A little suggestion for those with Eye of Judgment and worry about being able to trade it in. Rip off the part of the cover that says 'Includes PS Eye'. As a test, I did this at 3 stores, they looked at the tear (the back of the manual is visible, so the color kinda sticks out), but didn't even ask about it.) If they do ask, just tell them there was a sticker on there and you accidentally ripped it when taking it off.
thanks for the advice, did it and no questions asked....

very very nice. I'm gonna try and find those today. someone mentioned blacksite a few days ago, but I think they said ti was $23, but maybe I was wrong. Thanks. I' guess I'm off to find blacksite and EOJ.

I just wana get some credit to put on my psp bundle. But the BBs in my area are cleaned out.

Interesting news - After getting friendly with a few Gamestop employees (seriously, coolest guys I've met in awhile) they told me that the Trade 2 Get $10 promo may not end until the end of the month. They seemed pretty adamant about it; according to them, they don't get new floor sets for new product/drops until the end of the month, so there's a chance it could run until the end of the month, which is awesome considering that the B1G1 is running until the 28th.

I can confirm that Blacksite is 16 and change - flipped that and Rock Band to BBV for $66 and bought 10 games there, flipped it for $101 at GS.

Of course, take that info with a grain of salt until we can get some employees from Gamestop to chime in with more official information.

Just picked up a copy of Blacksite 15 mins ago and it rang up at $34.99 before discounts. Still had the old price sticker on it. Do not all gamestops update their prices at the same time? This was at a store in So. California.

Personal best acheived for me during lunch, similiar to Kunai (except no 15$ bonus). I visited a new (to me) BB a little out of my way during a trip to TRU, and discovered a gold mine of 24 9$ games, which I flipped for a cool 120$ profit 10 mins later. Lots of 15$ games remain, so I may revisit tomorrow if I'm bored.
