Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

SPECIAL NOTE (B1G1 free on $14.99 and under used games through August 4th):
All used games under $14.99 are buy one get one free through August 4th NOW OVER.

The second post has games that you may want to trade in to Gamestop to transfer some credit from BB to GS. Unfortunately with the end of the $10 extra promo at Gamestop this is much less useful than before. Some people may have the $15 bonus coupon or want to use the current GS deal (trade 3 get an extra 10%, trade 4 get an extra 20%, trade 5 get an extra 30%) so we'll keep that post going until the B1G1 free ends at Blockbuster.

Even though the B1G1 sale is now over, I'm leaving this info up for a few days for those who bought stuff and still want to trade it in to Gamestop (you have till the 10th there).

SPECIAL NOTE #2 (DS Lite's and new DS games now available at most BB stores!):
Starting just on July 15th, most Blockbuster stores got shipments of DS Lites and a wide assortment of new DS games that they've never had for sale in the past. Titles include NSMB, Professor Layton, Mario Party DS, and High School Musical ;).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are currently taking preorders for NCAA 09, Madden 09, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, Soul Calibur IV, and a few others (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means [hightlight]regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. They just started in mid July selling DS Lites at most stores as well. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by many regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.
Nationwide. Go buy 2 games and it should ring up automatically. That's how I tested it out at my local BB.

And this new promotion sucks. I thought having to put to memory most of the 360 games before was a bitch. Now I have to remember a shitload of games across all platforms except Wii and PS3. DAMN THIS! Hopefully, all the idiots who ruined it for all of us have stopped flipping...
I like this new promotion, I can actually flip games, without risk atm since I have not traded very many psp games, maybe 15-20 so far, compared to...well....way to many 360 games to go unnoticed. Also has allowed me to get rid of some bargain bin ps2/xbox games I acquired over the years that usually only get 1-3 $tiv (not yet but today). But I'm pretty much out of games at this point, the BBs near me are not all GR ones, only 2 of them, and those are the only stores that have had any flippable psp games. From doing 3 flips, I increased $83 in GS credit + mlb power pros, so more like $128 GS credit, but a $28 money investment for warioware and alike at tru to trade in at BB.

But I dont think this is a terrible promo, especially if you got some big tivs, like MGS4 which if you trade it in and rebuy it you can get a few bucks as well, but maybe not worth the trouble of doing so.
Because that's the fastest way to look suspicious.
Please !!! As if so many other facts, like consistently knowing that games are mispriced is not.

Just don't act suspicious, thats my advice.
Is my Game Rush the only one who won't get FF IV until the end of the month? Beautiful pre order system they have.
Better than never!

Contact DS :whistle2:(
What happened with Contact, Botticus? Or is that that one pre order that you had the huge problem with?
Wasn't the worst (we didn't describe our preorder problems in the singular back in the day ;)) but we learned that Blockbuster wasn't yet ready for Atlus distribution that day.

Edit: Hey, gwen was in the 06 GR threads too, never noticed!

io, if you had any interest, I dug up some GR threads that weren't linked in your OP (looks like 2006 was skipped):

Man, I skipped this thread for a couple weeks and was like 100 pages behind. I'm sure I missed something.

BBV near me had nothing for the $14.99 and under sale or else they all got bought before I got there. Just a bunch of PS2 and Xbox crap.

Did manage to flip ATV vs MX to BBV for $30 the other day. I paid $15. I put it all on a pre-order for LittleBigPlanet.

I think I'm done flipping for awhile. I have over $500 at BBV right now. That is like 8 games.
why not print a list? ;)
I do have a print out with all the games and stuff. I just hate taking it out. Back during the 360 flipping days, it was easier to remember the games on just one platform.

Now that I'm looking at it, my list is running out of room. I printed it with just the 360 games and am writing the other games on the back. But I'm having an easier time picking out games this time. I've picked up 6 games today. I'm gona try to hit up another BB soon to see if they have any PSP games.
I think when it hits $5 used or less I might buy one and frame it. You know, to remind me of the game that started this BBV/GS madness, lol.
It actually seemed to start with Stranglehold (PS3) as the top flipping material back when the $10 bonus first started. ;)
What happened with Contact, Botticus? Or is that that one pre order that you had the huge problem with?
Contact, Disgaea 2, Tales of Legendia... I could go on about how many games I (and many others) preordered at GR that they never got in. And I preordered them months in advance usually, so there was no excuse. There was no way I was going to try preordering FF IV at my regular Blockbuster (though this was before that got that big shipment of DS's and an assortment of games so maybe they will start getting more DS games for sale).

I preordered FF IV at GS to throw a bone to the guy who took multiples of the $15 coupon. But then that store was just too far away so I ended up price matching the Fry's ad ($32.99) at Gamecrazy. So, basically, I got it for $4 + change (since I price matched the BB FF:RoSS trade-in at Gamecrazy to turn $4 into $30 there earlier). GC has crappy base trade-in values but the dual price match policies (not to mention they are the closest game store to me) makes them somewhat useful. I'll just have to remember to switch that FF IV to something else at that remote GS.

I still plan to head out to my local BB today to see what they have buried in that B1G1 rack. There might be some more Iridium Runners type of things there...

I don't remember Gwen from then either :oops:.

Anyway, thanks for the links. This thread just went from being BB/GR thread XIII to BB/GR thread XVIII. Also, it's good to see you and Gwen posting here again ;).

Just a heads up to the people talking about WiiSports, I went to the GS that the website said had them...no boxes on display (sad panda). I ask at the registers, joker employee said "what do u want me to open a nonexistent wii and steal one for you" his manager reached into a drawer and said "we have two, gonna sell em on ebay?" I said they were my brother who broke his...point is if your looking for them ask...because the game didn't have a 'box'

I just did 3 trades moving over BBV creds to GS and made about $30 (probably more if I watched the TIVs of crappy games and made sure the BBV attendant rung up the deals in the cheapest manner.) Stick to Golden Compass (which there are hundreds,) Iridium Runner and Manhunt 2 (only found 2 maybe 3.)

The games mentioned above have already been listed in the thread so I will list the new games I tried.

BBV->GS (Base)
PS2 The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night $9.99-> $8.40 ($6)
PS2 Brunswick Pro Bowling $9.99 -> $5.60 ($4)
PS2 Arc the Lad End of Darkness $9.99 -> $2.10 ($1.50)
PS2 Pro Stroke Golf World Tour $4.99 -> $2.10 ($1.50)
PSP Virtua Tennis 3 $6.99 -> $3.50 ($2.50)

Overall I strayed from the tried and true and got crap mostly. Spyro is a good flippable though, almost 1:1 without a B1G1.

*EDIT* For the love of christ, I just saw one of my 3 transactions didn't have the 10% edge added on to it. I thought this shit was supposed to be automatic. Complete morons.

Of course... I see this AFTER i come home from a BBV with 10 copies of that game>__

Make sure to tell them it doesn't work, at least on your box. The BBV I went to wouldn't take them back or give credit without saying that.

I saw that bratz game, but I couldn't get myself to get it, I just got 2 iridium runners instead.

Avatar Last Airbender - $9.99 - 9.99
Eye Toy Groove $4.99 - 2.99
Bee Movie Game $9.99 - 17.99
Hot Shots Tennis $9.99 - 14.99
One Piece Pirate's Carnival $9.99 - 6.99
Dragon Ball Z Budokai 2 $6.99 - 5.99
DBZ Sagas $6.99 - 7.99
Manhunt 2 - $9.99 (best potential probably given the PSP game's price) - 17.99
Naruto Ultimate Ninja $9.99 - 11.99
Pinball HoF Williams Collection - $9.99 - 12.99
Nightmare of Druaga - $6.99 (hmm, wonder where that one came from ) 3.99
Valkyrie Profile 2 - $14.99 - 17.99
Rogue Galaxy - $14.99 - 19.99

Halo - $6.99 - 12.99
NFSU - $2.99 (good filler no matter what if you can find another $2.99 title) - 6.99
Indigo Prophecy - $6.99 - 9.99 (12.99 for ps2)
Psychonauts - $9.99 - 12.99 (14.99 ps2)

Bratz Rock Angelz - $4.99 (huge potential here, but who will call about this one? ) - 12.99
Geist - $6.99 - 6.99

I put the GS prices on the right, so MAnhunt 2 and Bee movie look like the best candidates from this list io, or maybe even bratz rock angelz.

Yeah, see, just like Iridium Runners it is probably at every store as a converted rental. And it is probably a freaking goldmine but no one will want to call about it, or, worse, go in with it to trade at GS ;).

I did remember they had a Kingdom Hearts II at my store. I could pair that with Manhunt 2 for PSP and get a decent return. Also, just wanted to throw that out there in case anyone is looking for it - not a bad pickup for $7.50 in BB credit (after B1G1).

I personally like the idea that if I'm in need of another game... I can pick up a copy of Smash Brothers Brawl used at gamestop for 35ish (coupon/edge) and grab something like 40 with the multiple game bonus. I definitely agree, this is a decent promo (especially to get rid of last gen flips).

Glad I could help, was extremely bored at work this afternoon. :lol:

Since I haven't been following much since there's way too much traffic in here, is BB pretty good with preorders nowadays, or is it still a crapshoot if it's not one of the big advertised games? Haven't traded or bought anything there since using up the last of my credit on Mario Kart.

Alright, guys, I took one for the team (prices with max GS bonus - phone quotes just now...):

:ps2:
DBZ Sagas - he tried to look it up but couldn't find it
Hot Shots Tennis $9.99 -> $5.60
Valkyrie Profile 2 $14.99 -> $8.40

:xbox:
Psychonauts $9.99 -> $5.60

:gc:
Bratz Rock Angelz $4.99 -> $3.50 ;)

Now you guys need to call about some of the other ones on my list before I head out to another Blockbuster!

Anyway, nothing great up there though they all are better than break even if you need things to pair up.

Got a new one. Nicktoons: Attack of the toy robot(Or something like that. Attack for some toy). $9.99 ->$7.00. $5.00 base.

I actually grabbed this one by accident thinking it was some other nicktoons one... Oh well.

And you guys are freaking killing me here. I can't fit anymore on mah piece of paper! I'm gona have to make a new spreadsheet soon.

I say go for Bee Movie and MAnhunt 2 ps2, both go for 9.99 at BB and sell for 17.99 at GS.

They sell Valkyire profile 2 for 17.99 also so maybe expect 8.40 tiv after bouses, so not bad for $5 games. (1.68 ratio about)
Got a new one. Nicktoons: Battle for Toy Robot Island(Or something like that. Battle for some toy). $9.99 ->$7.00. $5.00 base.

I flipped that one 2 days ago on my suicidal flip sun of ps2 games and posted, which still yielded me a some profit.

At my little local store they said I could preorder anything and they seem to think this means they will get a copy even if they otherwise wouldn't. But we all know how that went at Gamerush before. In any case, it is just as before in that they can look up the part number and preorder whatever is in there. They only have a limited number of games on the "official" preorder sheet though (Fallout 3, Soul Calibur, Lego Batman, Madden, stuff like that). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers though. And I just checked today and Animal Crossing Wii is not in their system yet. I was going to switch my Fallout preorder to that as I am getting Fallout from GS.
I didn't notice the GS sale prices on there before - well, yeah, those top 2 look good and Rogue Galaxy might be better than VP2 in any case (maybe $7 or $8 base).

Anyway, someone else can call about these. I called about Bratz and that means I filled my call-and-check-on-prices quota for, like, 2 months ;).

As a response to DarkRider23 below, since I don't want to make more posts - NO, I did not. I was reponding to 2 different topics and didn't feel like editing the first post to include the response to the other one :razz:

Oh, also. GT4 is $14.99 used at BBV. That's a no go.

Edit - DID IO DOUBLE POST? The world is coming to an end.

Ok damnit. I've spread information through 4 posts. That's not good.

UPDATES FOR THE OP:

GT4 is $14.99 at BBV. That deserves to be crossed off.
MTR for the PS2 is $6.99 at BBV. Decent flip.
Nicktoons: Attack for something is $9.99 at BBV. Good flip.

Hopefully Bee Movie turns a profit on flip, saw a bunch of those yesterday. Now I just need to flip back some BBV credit, sigh.

can anyone tell me why GS does not charge tax when you use store credit?? On Tuesday i bought a brand new Wii, Wii Fit and Mariokart (Yeah I Know I got lucky finding all 3 at once) the total was 389 dollars. I had 570 in credit on the card to begin with so when i left i noticed i wasnt charged tax which is odd because i thought that was only if you buy used stuff there with your edge card??? Someone let me know how this works or perhaps he screwed up and I caught a break

It depends on the state you live in I guess. We didn't used to pay tax on EB/GS credit purchases here in Utah until maybe a year, year and a half ago. Damned money-grubbing legislature brought the smack-down on that. =(

Different tax laws for different states. You're in one of the states that doesn't get charged sales tax with GS credit. NJ doesn't get charged either(yay). I've probably saved over $100 so far in sales tax due to credit.

But there's something weird for me... GS doesn't charge me sales tax on anything with store credit, but BBV does. What gives there? I never understood that.

And I finally finished my new spreadsheet with all the games except Xbox 360. I think I'm going to go through the bins at one of the blockbusters around here tomorrow. There are tons of games in those bins, but they are right in front of the cashiers and the BBV is usually empty. I just feel like they are always staring at me >_

In some states the law says that tax is not charged when using store credit in this fashion. I don't think we've ever compiled a list of which states have this in effect though.

So In otherwords I can into GS and give them 100 dollars to apply to my Edge card and they would apply that to the card and If i make a purchase with the 100 dollars it wont be taxed? interesting because if i know im going to make a big purchase at GS i can go there a day in advance with cash, have that applied to my edge card come back the next day and save the tax on the purchase. I guess that would work too, Right??

I get charged tax on credit at GR, but not at Gamestop, so I'm not sure how that works. GR PAYS you tax when you trade, though. And FYE (when they used to accept trades) didn't ad tax to your trades but still charged it.

Anyway... wow, hit up all 5 Gamestops in my area and din't see a single used copy of Octomania. At least I still went to GR and got to trade:

Awesome, found two PS3 HC:BftP at one store (!) to flip and Blockbuster #1 had Contra 4 used for 14.99 and I paired it up with Harvest Moon: Boy and Girl :)

I'm glad I didn't bite on Amazon's 12.99 + shipping a few weeks ago
So In otherwords I can into GS and give them 100 dollars to apply to my Edge card and they would apply that to the card and If i make a purchase with the 100 dollars it wont be taxed? interesting because if i know im going to make a big purchase at GS i can go there a day in advance with cash, have that applied to my edge card come back the next day and save the tax on the purchase. I guess that would work too, Right??
In that case you will have to buy a $100 Giftcard and they will charge you sales tax for buying that gift card. You will not be charged sales tax when using the credit that's on the card.

The chance of finding that game used is so small that it's not worth looking for used. If you really want to flip it go to Best Buy and buy it for $9.99. I'm gona be doing that soon actually :). I have 2 people that want to buy Harvest Moon and Dungeon Siege that I got at BBV for $10 each. Great way to transfer credit to cash ;). Trying to stick to BBV/GS credit with all this flipping.

Note also that there are Edge cards and gift cards and they are separate things. It is highly annoying here in OR because I have some of both and they often can't use one for one kind of transaction and vice versa. For example, they couldn't put credit on a gift card - I'm guessing because of the tax issues in other states. Damn other states :bomb:... I think I had the gift card because I returned a game once and they couldn't put that credit on my Edge card, even though I used it originally to pay for it.

could you technically trade in a 5 dollar game and have the credit put on your gift card? And then make a purchase and maybe u wouldnt get charged tax because there would be a trade in that was applied to the card. U think that make work

I dont see how there computers would know tht considering i must have traded 50 copies of golden compass in last 2 weeks.

No really, akokonas, now you're thinking too much. Damn. Enough talk of this tax fraud. You don't get charged with store credit. That's it. There's no way to get store credit other than trading in games/accessories.

Word of mouth is that the new coupon is "Buy SCIV and get $5 off any used game." What a stupid coupon. I'm going to cancel my SCIV pre-order at GS and get it at BBV... Terrible, terrible. The only problem I have now is that I only have $40 in BBV credit and there are no good flips w/o a coupon. I think I will be hitting up a couple of stores and using cash tomorrow to build up more credit. I'm actually having fun searching for these games at BBV to flip to GS.

Today was a pretty good today. Got an EoJ off of Half.com for $9 shipped. 4 copies of Fatal Inertia for $60 shipped, and I snagged 7 Octomanias for $9 each at Best Buy. I just hope that EoJ & Fatal Inertia hold past Tuesday.

I did notice that Superman 360 dropped from $9.99 to $6.99. I dont think its worth flipping even with the 40%, but I just thought i'd mention it. Two of the stores already got their Soul Calibur 4's in, but they cant legally sell them (blah blah blah). The store I pre-ordered at (non GR) said they'll be open at midnight on Tuesday to sell it.

There are almost always 1:1 from GS to BBGR, almost always better. Octomania new is one of them.

I know that, but it's just that I don't really feel like biking for 5 miles just to trade in a 1:1 game XD. I will do it if I have to, but I think I'm going to pick up some Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast's or something. I'll figure out a way =/.
