Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Just got back from flipping 3 copies of rock revolution, ended up costing 32 in gamestop store credit.

I got lucky and the 2nd (of the 2 i went to) blockbusters had a ton of games and walked away with:
Ratchet and Clank Future ToD 19.99
Bioshock ps3 19.99
Assassins Creed 9.99

Not bad for just about 10 bucks a piece in Gamestop store credit :) thanks guys
Actually, I think he was asking because there's some speculation of BBV filing for bankruptcy.
I know...but there's been speculation about that for years. Even if it did happen...these things don't happen overnight. There really isn't another national video rental chain left in this country other than Blockbuster. We have small chains like Family Video and Hollywood Video, which are hurting badly themselves. I think Blockbuster has a few more years left before the rental model dies completely and everything goes to downloads/streaming.

And if they did go out of business, they would honor store credit and take months to sell everything, like Circuit City did.

It wouldn't really take months to sell everything. The bb I worked at in high school destroyed 99.9% of all our rental movies due to contracts with the distributer. So that eliminates 90% of the product in their store, unless something has changed in the past ten years. The rest could be sold within a month, two months tops.
... but they had been so busy with today being a holiday that they had not had a chance to update the tags yet.
Wait ... today's a holiday?

Picked up Mario Super Sluggers ($20 - new) and Geometry Wars Galaxies ($7 - used) both for Wii. They had a display case for PS3 Rockband 2, but they were sold out. Hopefully I can pick that up at a different BB, along with Mario Strikers Charged, and Wario Land (if it is indeed $20).

Picked up The World Ends With You for $15 and Uncharted for $20.

A couple of other games I saw were God of War, Crisis Core, and Secret Agent Clank for the PSP at $15 each. Some 360 games I haven't seen mentioned are Dynasty Warriors 6 for $25 and Two Worlds for $10. And Lego Batman for the 360 is also $20.

Unfortunately I didn't get to look through it all since they had the games in near the checkout and there were a bunch of kids and parents that just got out of school. The clerk also informed me to come back tomorrow because she had alot more in the back that she was going through and that it was mostly in the $5 and $10 range.

I've been loving BB ever since they implemented $2 rentals a couple months ago, so I'm hoping they are able to pull through these tough times.

Also have a couple of TIVs:

360
Mirror's Edge $8
Spectral Force 3 $10

Don't be so sure. When Linen's and Things and Sharper Image went out of business, one of the first things they did was stop honoring gift cards and store credit. They may take a long time to finally liquidate, but the policy changes can happen very fast.

Anyone have a list of games that are discounted??????

I only saw a ton of DS games, PSP, and PS2 games all 360, Wii and PS3 were regular price.

Got FInal Fantasy Revenant Wings DS for $5 I sure want to get more!

Okay, it looks like a number of the games on the list were ones from the previous clearence sale... I'd suggest checking to see if Dead Space new was also discounted to $20, since that was part of the previous sale. I'm somewhat doubtful that there were any corresponding used price drops on any of these, though. For one, they'd never been known to adjust used prices mid-week, and they're no doubt pushing to get rid of they're new merchandise, so higher used prices would encourage shoppers to by these games new. Still, someone should probably keep watch on the used prices; a used Brother's In Arms: HH for $15 would be quite appealing...
Picked up
Uncharted $9.99 (mismarked YAY)
Professor layton $9.99 -both new
lucky you, i got Uncharted for 20. Heavenly Sword for 15, and Devil May Cry 4 for 15, not bad :)

Holy crap people - this is what I've been looking for - deep discounts on these DS games. My local store has plenty of these even though they have none of those 360/PS3 games everyone is getting. I guess I should check for the PS3 Bioshock though...

Someone needs to make a comprehensive list because I just know these aren't gonna be marked at any store I go to. Yeah, I know, i should do it but I'm damn busy and I still don't believe these prices are universal so I don't want to mess with the OP just yet.
Found most of what's already been discussed (unfortunately no Oblivion GOTY) and a few other decent deals:

Hot Shots Golf Open Tee 2 PSP - $9.99
Final Fantasy XII: Reverant Wings DS - $4.99
Spore: Creatures DS - $9.99
Universe at War 360 - $9.99
Fracture PS3 - $9.99

Just picked up:

Far Cry 2 PS3 - 19.99
Ratchet and Clank PS3 - 19.99
Genji PS3 - 9.99
Motorstorm Pacific Rift - 29.99

Gonna be busy lol

Picked up a copy of Ratchet after seeing Fast and Furious for free (thanks to CAG) and will head back out to flip some Rock Revolutions and pick up Uncharted and maybe heavenly sword. Oh, and RE 5. Man today is good.

Not being catholic (or religious at all), or ever getting out of school for Good Friday makes it a fake holiday in my book. I'd more happily celebrate Bad Friday. And I'd say the BBV I stopped at feels the same way, if their new game selection is any indication of that. I even took a copy of GH: Aero to flip, but seeing about 8 people in line and less new games than that in the store, I just left. Bad Friday indeed.

Any additional PSP games, besides those mentioned already?
FF: Crisis
Chains of Olympus
Secret Agent Clank
Hot Shots Golf 2

I grabbed Uncharted for 19.99 (marked 39.99) and Bioshock for 19.99. If you are in LA, the one on Sepulveda and Manhattan Beach has a ton of stuff (mismarked). That one is a "gamerush" location and so is the LAX location. Other locations have some stuff, many not out on shelves. So don't be afraid to ask what they have back there and what the current price is!!!

Can confirm Bioshock for PS3 is $19.99. My store got one copy left.. I decided this was a must buy if they had it, but do yall think it'll go down to that price soon? It's either Bioshock or a dub sack -__-. Need some helpp.

My store had some decent stuff, but I left empty handed. A few notables:
- Little Big Planet $49.99 (not that great)
- MGS4 $29.99 (tempting, but I heard the cut-scenes are like hours and you cannot skip them)
- Mercenaries 2 $14.99 (I may go back for this)
- Dead Space was $24.99 (PS3)

I still have like $200 in credit....I found it amusing they had pre-orders listed for 9/9 for Rock Band Beatles (or something like that). I wonder if they will be around then. I hope they continue to allow credit use if they announce bankruptcy.

DS Professor Clayton $9.99
Wii Mario Strikers $14.99
PS3 Bad Company $14.99

Saw most of the titles noted in previous posts, may go back for Wii Mario Baseball $19.99 and possibly PS3 RB2 for $29.99...
Seeking Uncharted, if anyone can help me out, perhaps I can find something you are seeking.
But I suggest everyone go out ASAP as there are not many copies of any one game.
and the selection varies greatly from store to store...
Picked up today:
GT5 Prologue - 14.99
Was this a typo, a mistag (that they honored), or a used copy? Because I just bought one about 10 minutes ago for $19.99.

When I went in to my store just now they had EVERYTHING retagged and out for sale. What a difference from last night. They really did have a glitch last night as today they finally got all the repricing info and with the manager being there they were right on top of it.

One thing she told me is that they are expecting a massive used game price drop update this Sunday! So, for example, that GT5 I picked up for $20 I might return and get the used one if it drops to $14.99.

Damn, I spent half my remaining BBV credit and now all of a sudden I need more but there is only one used RR at over 10+ GS around me. Hell, I'm even tempted to buy a new one for $19.99 and take the 99 cent loss!

I wouldn't worry too much about the SD post - we've had BBV info posted there before and they usually end up giving up thinking it is YMMV because many stores don't retag and they think the games are the actual sticker prices. Plus few of them have credit to burn - to me, most of these are still only worth it with cheap credit. I see very little I'd pay real cash for. And even at these prices most of this stuff is not flippable (to GS or eBay) so it shouldn't get snapped up all that quickly. Frankly, the biggest danger is Joe Schmoe in off the street thinking $20 games are an awesome deal because he's used to paying the full $59.99 . So at my local store I bought all I wanted now since they retagged everything very clearly.

I took some pictures of the racks and will be making a list later. I'll probably hold off posting it for a few more days though.

But here's what I bought just now:

:ps3: Bioshock $19.99
:ps3: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue $19.99 (I really want kazo to verify how he got it for $14.99 exactly)
:wii: Wario Land Shake It $19.99
:ds: Spore Creatures $9.99 (I actually had this preordered there and cancelled it - so I finally just picked up my copy ;))
:ds: Spectrobes Beyond the Portals $9.99
:ds: Crosswords DS $9.99
:ds: Professor Layton $9.99

I would have gotten much more if I didn't already have it (like FF:CC, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, etc). I actually do have Professor Layton, but I figured that was a good gift for someone sometime. It was hard to pass up all the Lego games (Indy, Batman) but I either rented them or have them. I thought about getting PS3 versions for my son to play upstairs but then I figured that was a waste. Of course, I still have (unplayed) my 360 Bioshock that I got for $5 from that glitch coupon way back when. But I'd rather play it on the PS3. I need to think about that one. The manager told me it was no problem to return them if they are still sealed.

I'm about to head out to another store but I had to stop off at home and find more of my credit - I only had $50 left on me after my home store ;).

Hey IO it had to be a mistag since I saw it used last week for 19.99 and I see the price at 14.99 new today.. i'm surprised they honored it though. I saw Heavenly Sword there for 9.99 as well, mistag? Didn't get it since I already have it.

If I find where I put my receipt, i'll scan it and post here when I get a chance!

My one disappointment was the SpongeBob Drawn To Life. It dropped, but only to $19.99. My 6 year-old is obsessed with SpongeBob now and would love that but I can wait for another drop on it.

Also, Mario Party DS had a modest drop from $21.99 to $19.99.

Oh, and GTA IV is $29.99 new now. Wii Music is $39.99 (still $30 too much ;)).

I'll go through my iPhone pics and post some more updates later. The pics I got were mostly for the stuff above $19.99 since everything $19.99 or less they dumped in with the used game sale bins at the front of the store.

I'm kicking myself now for having bought many of these DS games used from GS for more than these new prices at BBV (eg, Sonic Chronicles). And as for TWEWY, I paid full $39.99 for and have yet to play :bomb:. I'm going to buy one of those just because if I can find it.

So a possible price drop on used coming also? I wonder if BBV is trying to make some quick cash, with all that bankruptcy news. Hmmm.

I was going to say the same thing. That was part of why I was wondering just a few days ago why they have kept the clearance at the same prices for so long. If they needed a quick cash infusion they could have dropped everything - and they did... The manager at my store had no idea if the big drop was related to the clearance drop but she said a lot of titles were expected to drop soon. Hopefully RR stays the same (saw the copy I traded tagged at $44.99). I may pick up those copies still at $10 at Target and trade them now - better than nothing I guess.

I picked up some games at BBV (same as reported here), though I did see 2 GTA IV CE for 360 tagged @ $29.99; anyone else see these?

I agree, good news though is that in a week you'll be able to buy the games on the bay for a couple bucks more than at BB right now (in case the sd hoarders hit your local store before you can get there)
Picked up The World Ends With You for $15 and Uncharted for $20.

Could you share which BBV you went to?

Hit 2 stores today and each store had varying small selections but managed to grab these:

Ass. Creed (PS3) $9.99
SCIV (Non CE edition -PS3) $24.99

Im going to go out and hit a few other ones when I have the chance because some of these games are just priced perfect to me :)
