Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Eh, there's nowhere near a full list in this thread yet. I saw dozens of DS titles in the $9.99 range...lots of junk but lots of nice ones too. Plenty of PSP stuff. Tons of PS2 stuff. If your store has older games collecting dust, you'll probably make out like a bandit.

Meteos - $5
Final Fantasy XII - $5

Now I remember someone saying that Rock Revolution was showing up at a weird price on gamestop.com the other day and I just called instore and they still say it is 14.99 for the xbox version. Is this the correct price and is the Ps3 version the only one with the 12.99 price?
That's correct.
Well, that's a bummer because there are far more 360 copies than ps3 in my town. Oh well.

Here's what I grabbed:

Boom Blox (Wii)- $20
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles (Wii)- $15
Okami (wii)- $15
Quake 4 (360)- $5
House of the Dead 2 & 3 (wii)- $15

I need to go back tonight to get warioland: Shake it (Wii) as I forgot to grab that one on the way out.

Well, i stopped at another but didn'tget anything...although, I may go back as I'm afraid to lose my credit to Bankruptcy ;)

I did see Rock Band BUNDLE for $55
- Saints Row 2 (Ps3) - $24.99
- DMC IV LE (PS3) - $14.99
- Ghost Squad $9.99
- Eternal Sonata (360) $14.99

I'll check tomorrow again....starting to regret not getting a few things.

Also, what is better for the Wii - MLB Power Pros 2008 or Mario Super Sluggers?
Was this a typo, a mistag (that they honored), or a used copy? Because I just bought one about 10 minutes ago for $19.99.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is $19.99. I lucked out though and got mine for $9.99 because it was also mistagged.
Gah its good these lists coming in are broken up because it makes it a bit more work for hoarders to compile a list but wow did I pass up on a lot I know I saw today haha

I can't speak on MLB Power Pros because I haven't played, but I played Mario Sluggers last night for the first time and it was a blast. Need to have friends over more often to play it. Was really a good time.

DS
Kirby Superstar $19.99
Weight control with Pedometer $14.99

PS3
Motorstorm Pacific $29.99

Still Uncharted eludes me...
Not being catholic (or religious at all), or ever getting out of school for Good Friday makes it a fake holiday in my book. I'd more happily celebrate Bad Friday. And I'd say the BBV I stopped at feels the same way, if their new game selection is any indication of that. I even took a copy of GH: Aero to flip, but seeing about 8 people in line and less new games than that in the store, I just left. Bad Friday indeed.
I prefer Cash Wednesday myself...

2nd BBV I went to had nothing marked. I see I missed Kirby...

Be thankful if your GS stores have any RR. I drove across town to get the 1 single copy within 30 miles!

Store I went to tonight in Alpharetta, GA basically had all the new games out on a table now with a sign up to 75% off. I can't recall a spring clearance being this big in the past.

Got lucky today, hit up GS for some :ps3: Rock Revolution, used edge and 10% coupon so a ~$11 > $19 flip. Picked up the following, minty new sealed...

:ps3:
Assassin's Creed
Ratchet and Clank Future
Bioshock

Going to trade my last copy of RR for a possible Uncharted, and I dont even have a PS3 yet, lol.

Hmm. I haven't played a single RPG on 360 or PS3 yet. Anyone have any suggestions i should look out for? Hopefully blockbuster has it at a great price :)

edit:

360
Eternal Sonata 14.99
Tales of Vesperia 24.99
I grabbed Uncharted for 19.99 (marked 39.99) and Bioshock for 19.99. If you are in LA, the one on Sepulveda and Manhattan Beach has a ton of stuff (mismarked). That one is a "gamerush" location and so is the LAX location. Other locations have some stuff, many not out on shelves. So don't be afraid to ask what they have back there and what the current price is!!!
Thats one of my old hunting ground stores before I moved. That place is always a treasure trove with lots of trade traffic.

Folklore is $9.99 ?! It was marked $19.99 so I didn't bother, but DAMN I needs to pick that up tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up!

Burnt my credit out and spent more. Great sale-- Mario Party 8 is 24.99, if you can find it. I don't know if that's old or not-- I only saw a display case at one store today and it was actually OOS.

Also found out I was still banned. She said I had a hold on my trade account but she'd still sell the games to me. UH OF COURSE YOU ARE BITCH THAT'S A BAN ON THE TRADE ACCOUNT NOT THE LET ME GIVE YOU GUYS MONEY ACCOUNT.

Yeah, I haven't seen Folklore new at a BBV ever...

Mario Super Sluggers is a great game and especially fun with multiple people (though it has a decent single-player mode too). Well worth the $19.99.

Alright, c'mon now, this has got to be a Gamerush store. No BBV would have Retro Atari, Meteos, and True Swing Golf. Hell, I think I remember True Swing Golf being part of one of the new game clearances GR had a few years ago. To the guy who never remembers a spring clearance being this big - remember, GR used to have huge clearances all the time. Problem back then was that most regular stores didn't have nearly as much new game stock as they have now so very few titles could be found at a regular store. But the ones at GR were always about like this.

Anyway, I'm just messing with Rictor there - though it would be nice if people would specify GR vs a regular store as most of us aren't going to find things like Retro Atari and Meteos.
Hmm. I haven't played a single RPG on 360 or PS3 yet. Anyone have any suggestions i should look out for? Hopefully blockbuster has it at a great price :)

edit:

360
Eternal Sonata 14.99
Tales of Vesperia 24.99
Holy crap - another GR store? I don't think any regular BBV ever got those 2 in new (and they don't even have Vesperia for rent). I'd buy both in a nanosecond at those prices.

So I went to 2 more stores tonight and neither had anything marked. The second had a list, however. I got to pour over it and it was a good thing since they had half their games under the counter. I got a GH III for $4.99 along with that Yoga game for $4.99 and Zoo Tycoon 2 (DS) for $9.99. That was it - I essentially traded the one single used RR in all of my metro area GS's in for those 3 games - kind of pathetic, actually.

These prices are good, but not great if you know what I mean. They just aren't quite enough for me to make too much more effort in tracking more stuff down. I'd like Heavenly Sword at $14.99 and would snag a second copy of TWEWY for posterity at $14.99, but otherwise I either have everything else already or wouldn't want to pay that much for it ($19.99 for Grid and Too Human are still too much for example).

Now if the used price drop this Sunday is a great one then we may be on to something here. The last store I went to had an enormous amount of used game stock - more than I've ever seen at a non-GR store. I'd love to see a big drop there... (and please please another B1G1 sale!)
Yeah, I haven't seen Folklore new at a BBV ever...

Mario Super Sluggers is a great game and especially fun with multiple people (though it has a decent single-player mode too). Well worth the $19.99.

Just to help clarify: I have one of those super media BBs around here that carries all the wacky electronics and shit. That BB has stuff like True Swing Golf and Meteos and a lot of older games they have no business carrying. I would imagine they are shipped in from GRs or the like. Almost all BBs do not carry games such as those, but there are the random select few that do.

So basically: don't get your hopes up on some of these obscure titles.

If anyone wants to give/get me a Devil May Cry 4:CE(leaning more towards PS3, but would take 360), I'll pay via Amazon Gift Card of $20. :bouncy:

If not, I'll be hitting up Blockbuster, but if they don't have it:bomb:, the above will be my backup plan.

Flipped the one copy of Rock Revolution that was in my 5 nearest Gamestops (like everybody else, I think I'm noticing a trend of scarcity of that game) and then snagged:

iconds.gif

FFXII: Revenant Wings - $4.99
The World Ends With You - $14.99

iconps3.gif

Unreal Tournament 3 - $9.99
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - $19.99

iconwii.gif

Pokemon Battle Revolution - $14.99 (hadn't seen this one mentioned)
Boom Blox - $19.99

iconxbox360.gif

LEGO Batman - $19.99
Blue Dragon - $9.99
Devil May Cry 4 LE - $14.99 (was excited to see this mixed in with a few regular versions for the same price)

iconps2_r2.gif

Rogue Galaxy - $4.99 (already have this but I dig Level 5 enough to not pass on another copy for a friend or just to have sealed for this cheap...)

Might head back to grab Okami for the Wii (already have it on PS2, need to play). Satisfactory way to blow the credit, and then some, that I got from flipping a few copies of Golden Axe: Beast Rider I got from Amazon during the holidays.
What system is it the RR getting $19 for? PS3 or 360, or is it both?
Both

The ps3 version costs less for some reason at Gamestop though. Don't forget the immortal 10% off coupon.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue ranged up for $39.99... hmmm

I was able to grab Prof Layton for 9.99 though. Thanks!

Btw, 2 members created 2 separate thread, can we just merge it here?

Grabbed 4 $4.98 RR from multiple Targets today & combined with my remaining $7 BBV credit, converted them to the following:

Warioland: ShakeIt!
GT5 Prologue
Mario Super Sluggers

One store was supposed to have a PS3 Lego Batman but couldn't find it, so now I need to decide what I want to spend the remaining credit on. I doubt I'll find Uncharted. Anyone here play Spider-Man: WOS? I'm not expecting great things but am hoping it is decent. I also passed on DMC4 and GOW: Chains of Olympus but was tempted by them both.

I made one trip on the way home from work to pick up Grid and de Blob for $20 each. As usual, my local GR had no clue about the sale (they hardly have any boxes out to represent what new games that actually have in stock).

After looking over this thread, I decided to make a second run with the wife as she wanted to pick up Spore Creatures. Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted a Rock Band for PS3. I waited in line to pick up Spore and get RB price checked. The clerk told me $110 without looking it up, but after insisting that he take a look to make sure, which he resisted, quoted me the $55 price. I have no clue why I held out for so long, but RB is now mine ;)
