Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
Looking at the post immediately before yours, I wonder if Wooster is anywhere near Cleveland
I've only ruined two BBVs, however I did find one that was already ruined North of here.

His BBVs were likely hit by someone else on here, Cleveland's a much larger city than Wooster, and it's a good driving distance from here, too far for my tastes.
So let me get this straight, you traded in games to one store and after that, they told you they were not going to allow you to trade in games again.
or
As you were going to trade the games in, they told you they could not accept your games because your account said that you were banned from trading in at EVERY store or just that location.
He wasn't clear. He acted as if he had caught a theif and told my friend and I that we wouldn't be able to trade at any more BBVs, and my attempts at getting Vanillas would be equally futile. I should have punched him when he told me to have a good day. Oh, he was also smiling when he told us we were banned on the system.

I'm tempted to drive back and flash a couple spent VISAs in his face, or try for one when one of his ignorant acolytes is at the desk.
Out of curiosity, what does BBV charge for Rock Revolution? I hope for their sake it's not some Kabookiesque loss leader.
While I was traded one in, I was told they sell it for $44.99.

hmm... New Rock Band 1 Bundle for 54.99 or Used Rock Revolution game only for 44.99. Decisions, decisions.... Any smart shopper would save the 10 bucks, right....... :booty:

I thought BBVs had until Sat or Sun to clear out their stores but it seems that most of them did it first thing Monday morning?

Interestingly, like someone else, my local stores are now quoting $4 for Rock Revolution and they aren't franchises. So maybe it really did drop today. What time did you get your quotes?

Isn't Rockband at $4?
Isn't Rockband at $4?
Probably, but the CSR at my store was specifically looking at Rock Revolution as they actually re-confirmed the title with me when telling me the quote.

How old are you again? Also, bragging about getting a Visa might just make him call the DM or every store in the district and tell them to flag your account. Just try to be the bigger person, if he doesn't want your business then don't give it to him.
I returned my Rock Revolution because the blockbuster TIV went down to $4.
We'll that sucks. I'm just glad that I was able to trade in 8 Xbox 360 RR and 2 PS3 RR before the TIV dropped from $19.

The best part about it is that I used gift cards that I recieved for my birthday in February to purchase the $4.98 RR at several different Target stores. So my $50 in gift cards turned into $190 in credit at BBV. I didn't have to spend a dime and I completely benefited from the sale.

I absolutely love being a CAG or as I call it, a Cheap Butt Gamer (since I don't curse :D ...lol)

Went to two stores, and rock rev was 4 at 3 stores, 1 store said they couldn't trade in anymore due to closing, and 2 others said the system was down.

Funny thing is, I traded in 6 games at 8:30ish last night for 19, and then tried to trade in 5 more at another store a half hour later and it was 4 bucks. Looks like it went down between 8:30 and 9:30 CST yesterday. I thought it was a fluke when I came here and someone said something about a "franchise store" or something.

Anyway, can anyone confirm cranium kabookis price?

Are the prices in OP YMMV? I saw Chromehounds for $10 instead of $5, and Mercs 2 for $30 instead of $15. Does each store have different prices, or are they standard across all stores?

Cranium Kabookii people. Check your KMart stores. It should be $5 there. Hopefully it's still $16 at BBV. Last week it was.

Well, damn, I was going to trade a RR last night but didn't get around to it. And I bought about 3 more at Best Buy yesterday. I might be able to do one more at Gamecrazy with a price match - we'll see...

As for Cranium Kabooki at Kmart - well, yeah, that's great but they've been gone from here since around November or so ;). There was only like 1 copy amongst 4 Kmarts and I flipped that long ago. So it's hardly an untapped resource.

Then nab some other $5 fodder from here and there. Take to Gamestop, used Cranium Kabookii for $10 and some change from them(coupons of course). Phantasy Star Universe is $3 at KMart(I still see many of these). Pair that with anything makes the Kabookii flip still worthwhile. At least around me in Istanbul, Turkey(not really).

I traded 3 RR yesterday (April 30) at around 1:30 in the afternoon for $19. Can anyone confirm whether the TIV changed last night or today? It seems kinda of strange for the TIV to change during the day; maybe BBV has started to monitor their stock more carefully than before and adapt faster.

If they were watching that closely it would have dropped sooner =P
If you already have Vanilla Visas, sure. But if you don't, then you won't be able to get them with BBV credit anymore.

When purchasing Giftcards using your Visa Vanilla, do it in increments of $50 or less... anything higher might have them put an authorization charge on the card and leave with without enough for the transaction. Happened when I tried to buy a $100 Amazon gift card.
Thanks. I was going to do an inital test before I dumped all my credit.

Another nice theory but the 32 GS within 100 miles of me don't have any (and I only ever bought one or two from there before). Oh well, back to hibernation on BBV flipping...

My 360 just winked its 3 red lights at you for that one ;).

I'll bet that if BB didn't have the $10 sale, RR would still trade at $19. I'm sure the $10 affected TIV at BBV and GS. Damn them!!!.....oh wait..... $10 games wooho!!!!!.....no damn them.......$10 games woohoo.
I went into a BBV really quick yesteray....most was cleared out. They still had overpriced USED games and a select few NEW games (Battlefield, Little Big Planet and Metal Gear Solid if I recall). I'm hoping LBP drops to around $30 one day :)
Anyone purchase a Vanilla Visa with credit (on a card) lately? I may just do that.
I have LBP and I rarely play it, but I'm looking for some vaguely specific games in a possible trade for it, at least one of which I doubt anyone would have unless they've imported it(Demon's Souls for PS3, Asian version).

I miss some of the really good flips I did a year or two back(Dynasty Warriors Gundam for PS3 + 360, Powerdrome Racing for PS2). I made SO much credit between GS, FYE and BBV with those two alone.
Exactly! io knows his stuff! :)

Actually, last gen MS made a tank that never broke down in comparison to the POS 2. I knew WAY more people who got the dreaded DRE from their PS2's than had ANY problems with their XBoxs.

Jeez, guys. My suggestions weren't directed toward io, but to the many people bummed about Rock Revolution being taken away. io simply responded to my suggestion. I'm no flipping(no pun intended) rookie either. I just don't usually post much anymore on deals around me. Last time I did, the items were gone. My apologies to the io Fan Club.

But then today my son was playing GHWT and it froze multiple times, then finally just went to a screen with blue vertical lines. When I turned it back on after that time, I got the RROD. We've always kept it vertical but I've heard it is better to lay it flat - it just doesn't fit well where we have it when it is flat. Ours is out in the open with plenty of ventilation and is never touched/bumped by anything or anyone. It is also an Elite (though one of the first one) which were supposed to be made a little better. So much for all that though. MS screwed this up big time - I will definitely not be buying their next machine until it is out for even longer (I waited 1 1/2 years this time, maybe 3-4 next time). My Wii is also hosed up (corrupt memory). I guess I'll go all PS3 for now - that is only about 5 months old, though, so it has plenty more time to fail on me too .

To keep this relevant to the BBV thread - I had installed the GotY content for Oblivion when that was a good flip a few months back. Now, since it isn't really DLC, how will that behave when I get a new/refurb system? Am I going to have to obtain another GotY disc? I think the one I traded in to my local store just got sent back with most of the other trade-in games... (And no, the GotY edition has never been available for rent at any of the BBV or Hollywood stores I've ever been to so that's not an option).
My 360 RROD'd last week, I actually already have my replacement in < 7 days start to finish. Considering the 3 months it took last time, I'm pleased... Except for the fact that it's a 2006 unit, so I'm guessing it will last 3 months or so (less if I wrap it in a towel).

Didn't we get confirmation on Monday that at least one of the platforms for Rock Revolution was getting the full amount still? If so, doesn't that mean that their TIVs are now subject to drop whenever the hell they want (and the system in the third post of putting the date that they are good through is now extinct)?

That's what I was thinking. But I guess it doesn't matter too much now since BBV flipping is on its last legs given the low TIV, diminished selection of games, and suspect pre-order practices. Oh well, glad I flipped my three RR yesterday and got an official PS3 headset for half price. :)
Most likely today. I was able to get $19 trading in RR last night around 9PM. It's kind of sad, there isn't really much I want to buy at BBV now.

It's amazing RR lasted as long as it did.
It was bragged about dozens and dozens of times in the BBuy thread where lurkers and newbs abound.
and I'm sure this "flag" happened quite a bit...
RIP BBuster...

Funny thing is, I traded in 6 games at 8:30ish (probably one store) last night for 19, and then tried to trade in 5 more at another store a half hour later and it was 4 bucks. Looks like it went down between 8:30 and 9:30 CST yesterday. I thought it was a fluke when I came here and someone said something about a "franchise store" or something.

I've been posting this week whenever I traded a RR in so that people would know the TIV held and I'm left with 3 RRs, two for 360 and 1 for ps3. I opened the ps3 one, but didn't trade it in when they were getting spooked by accepting Singstar bundle and I didn't get out to trade it again. At least I can return the 360 copies and maybe GS will offer a little more with the tiered bonus trade.

By the way, it's not nearly as bad as reviews make it out to be. I feel it's worth the 5 i paid at target although I'll never play beyond medium difficulty. That may be harder than expert on Rock Band.

Anyway, I confirmed $4 TIV for Rock Revolution for 360 and also got a TIV for:

360 XBlades $25

Not bad if: Target - 75% off = $15 - $5 rebate = $10 cost = $25 credit at BB. Although you have to do a rebate and it's probably one per household.

Has the PS3 version of RR been confirmed at $4 TIV? Seems like posts are unclear or 360.

I'll grab a Dualshock3 with the last of the credit....Mmm, I love Ebay.

Somehow I came up with enough VISA cards to make a PS3 cost only $80 in cash...This whole flipping thing is great.

Thank you guys

I believe it is because your image doesn't show and you didn't say what the game was so we have to guess what it is. My guess is sealed copies of fuck! Though I never knew they updated that for PS3 and 360.

Ah, now its not showing for me too. Ill try to fix the image, the game is Saints Row 2 for PS3 for $24.99. Damn cell phone pic
