Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
Wow, that happened to me once except I was the person that ended up with someone elses credit. It was during one of the B1G1 used game sales and I didn't really figure it out until I got home and looked over all my receipts. I guess this is one of those of those errors that happens every now and then. Remind me to never return anything at BBV.
Lots of luck trying to get actual cash back though if you do try and return something you JUST bought, as I found out recently from both Hollywood Video and Blockbuster.

I ended up stuck with a copy of Condemned 2 from the clearance sale because the copy of Turning Point for the PS3 I just bought earlier that same night froze on me and they had NO MORE COPIES. But apparently, they 'can't'(read: WON'T) give back a refund in the method paid.

Instead, I ended up stuck with $21 and change on my fuckin' account. So, to screw them up a little bit, I returned a copy of the GTAIV Special Edition that I bought during the clearance to the same store that gave me the bullshit hassle on the refund for Turning Point. I also made sure I did the return AFTER they had already shipped out all of the clearance games.

I'm sure it wasn't a huge hassle for them, but the manager woman was a bit pissed and kept trying to get me to take the game all the way back down to the store I got it from.

Drove by one of the stores yesterday that I haven't been to in months. All the signs were down and they were cleaning up the stuff inside. Time to check out the other two stores that I still have a little credit at.

I tried to trade in a PS3 Singstar I got from Gamestop with some mics I took out of a box of Singstar country that I got for 10 bucks at bestbuy 3 weeks ago.

Anyway, first problem was that the Singstar copy didn't have a bar code, and the second problem was that I didn't have a box. To the person who was able to trade this in, using this method, how did you get passed these obstacles?

I didn't use that method. Mine were sealed with the box and barcode. After opening everything, I brought in the whole package when I did my trade. I didn't buy them at GS. I could have got cash (probably more than $36) if I just sold them on half.com or ebay sealed, but I'd probably just end up spending cash someday at BBV, so i took a gamble and traded them. U could print out a barcode from one of those upc database sites from the Target thread and tape/glue it to where the barcode goes. I don't know if that would work or even be a good idea to try. The employees I spoke with said they wouldn't have taken it without the box anyway.

You just need a knowledgeable employee who can look an item up in the system rather than depend on scanning the barcode. They just can't be TOO knowledgeable and know about the whole not taking accessory/bundle trade-ins anymore. Depending on how many BB/GRs you have around I'd keep trying. You may have better luck at a Gamerush. Never had a problem with the box thing although the one time I was denied because they knew not to take the bundle the guy said they had no way to package it for resale.

Wow, blockbuster is a ghost town these days.. I went in to blow a $15 gift card my girlfriend got for graduation (she owed me $15 and said she'd never use it so just gave that to me) and I could find NOTHING worth buying.. Except a 1600 points card..

Cranium Kabooki has got to be some sort of inside joke at BBV. I just traded one tonight for $16 (+ tax!) while travelling for work ;). So, yay, I have some more Blockbuster credit again!
Piece Of Garbage?
Lol, it is Previously Owned Games, and was before that PPG (Previously Played Games). Movies are PVP (previously viewed product). At least, that's what I remember it all being from when I worked there... I bet more current employees know better than I.

Possible good news for a b1g1 in the near future???? I have 30 x360 prepack(clear case games) coming in to my store next week. There was no communication of a b1g1 next week but u never know. It could just be leftovers from the last prepack games they sent us or something being sent from another store closing. Just like it was mentioned a few posts up the x360 prepack games are $6.99. So check ur stores next week to see what if anything other stores are getting. I'll post back if/when I hear anything new.

My store has a whole shelf of those clearcase POG pack in games or w.e

I bought a few awhile back at $9.99 (Bioshock being the best game there).

Probably would pick up a few more at $6.99, definatly would grab a ton of them if it was B1G1 free on all of them.

Which store do you work at? Or if you're worried about that, which island?

I'm actually on the east coast. Born in HI.

Also a useful tool that blockbuster just downloaded to stores is the ability to seach inventories of other stores in the same district. We can now look up if a particular store has a rental, POG ( previously owned game) or new retail copy of any particular game or movie. This could be very helpful when looking for prepack games next week.

Ok, I just thought it was weird since last time the POGs came out, none of the stores over here had them even though they're all corporate.

Now that's progress!

Blockbuster... eased its liquidity concerns last month by renegotiating a revolving line of credit that was set to expire in August. The so-called revolver now won't end until September 2010, though Blockbuster had to reduce the available credit to $250 million from $350 million and accept a higher interest rate to get the extension.

So they got their credit extended...

This is kind of off topic but is anyone worried about being able to afford games now that blockbuster flipping is over. I got a ps3 and an xbox 360 now after flipping and I'm debating whether if I should sell one because I'm afraid I wont be able to afford games for both now.

Unless you have a LOT of time to play games, Id say make your choice and dump one. I bought a PS3 from this the first chance I had, and eventually I dumped it for cash to keep flipping because I realized I was never going to have the time to truly invest in it. The system is going to depreciate the whole while you have it, so if you barely use it, you are potentially wasting the money.
So they got their credit extended...
Only in America can a company be so horribly unprofitable, yet stay in business.

Not me, I have a job that pays me well to surf CAG all day :)

Plus I still have a lot of credit at GS from flipping efforts.

My clients bother me so much that I can't surf CAG enough. I wish they would just leave me alone.:lol::lol:

And we wonder why the financial industry sucks. Banks just can't help but finance businesses that can't pay their loans and homes that people can't afford.

To the poster that asked about flipping opportunities, you can get a few occasional flips from Target clearance (e.g. Spiderman: Web of Shadows was 12.98 and flipped to GS for ~23 credit).

Well BBV just keeps on giving to me. Today I went dumpster diving for the first time ever. I had stopped by to get a movie and noticed a bum looking at something that clearly looked like a guide. I asked the CS rep if they had been throwing guides out and he said yes. So, five minutes later a nice haul of 20+ guides were transferred to my car. Highlights included Fallout, Metal Gear, Tombraider, Lego batman, Civilization Rev, Pokemon Rangers, Mortal Kombat, Super Smash Brothers, Quantum of Solace, Bioshock, and a few more that I can't remember.
This could be very helpful when looking for prepack games next week.
It would be good for finding which stores got the prepack games in stock, but you would not know what individual games they got in as they are all under the generic sku.

true but you can at least find out what stores got the prepacks so not waste time driving around since last time not all stores received them.

I was at my local BB and found behind the counter two garbage bags with dvd cases, as well as Wii and DS cases. I don't know if the cases were empty, but I just couldn't help wonder, what are they going to do with those.

the dvd cases would be from a big field destroy today. we destroyed about 400+ movies at my store. what a waste but i guess thats the agreement we have with the studios. we have to put the disc thru a slayer and just throw them out and then we just throw out the cases since we dont need that many.

Crazy, there should be an agreement to give at least some away to a couple bums and hobos...At least...

Mosts people view video games and dvds/bluray as tangible products.

Publishers and Studios think of them as intangible property. Purchasing a movie or game merely gives you the right borrow their intellectual property.

We see 400 movies, they see 400 discs that cost $25, but are filled with millions of dollars worth of their valuable ideas.
Pennied guides?

Used Blu Rays were 2 for $25 at local blockbuster this morning. Huge selection. Not sure if this is a new sale, so I figured i'd inform the masses.
By the back door they had two huge garbage bags full of $3.99 clearance movies(Spiderwick Chronicles, etc), along with some regular garbage. Not sure if they were empty cases. Hmmm.
