Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Transferring credit to GS just got easier...pick up some cheap Wii games and take advantage of the $10 bonus w/ 2 or $25 bonus when trading in 4

(potential, yet unlikely scenerio: Galaxy Wars $6.99 x 4 = $28 BBV, would get $6 x 4 (+10%) + $25 = $51 GS)

Urgh, they demolished the closest target and are re-building it to open in october (!) and the second closest target is not close at all. All this made me extra bummed when they didn't have any copies of rock revolution. I was planning on getting re5 with that cash too.
$4.99 for Rock Pollution for $19.00 credit + $1 = 1600 point card. Not bad :) I'm running low on Dream Car points.
I ran out of those a good while back, but my Sons of Anarchy points are holding strong. ;)
Yes, Ninja, and PSN cards too. That is pretty much the last use for my credit there if they still allow purchases of them (we seem to have conflcting info on that).
I don't know when the new rules went into place, but last December I bought about $1100 worth of gift cards with my store credit.
The best were the $100 Visa gift cards.

Oh well. It looks like this is the end of the Golden Age of Blockbuster.
I just got through browsing msnbc and thought this might be interesting to those with BB credit.
Glad they let me pick up one of the vanilla visa cards last week to convert over some credit! :applause:

Still going with the Blockbuster bacnkrupt/closing talk. I assume it will happen, although, I'm sure I will have time to use my $200 in credit....It's not like they would close their doors without notice. I was hoping they would stick around through the summer for NCAA 10 or Madden 10.
AFAIK, it would be 9.98. It started the clearance cycle at 39.99 I believe.
Must be a mis-sticker on the one I saw.
AFAIK, it would be 9.98. It started the clearance cycle at 39.99 I believe.
I did see :ps3: Singstar: Abba at the 9.98 price with the 75% marking at Target yesterday. I was going to check the TIV today, so thank you for sharing it.

edit:
Must be a mis-sticker on the one I saw.
It is Target, so the price they base the drops on can vary by store. At 4.98 I think I'd have to find someone to give it to. Not so sure at 9.98. $5 is lunch.

Once they announce that the store is closing or under Chapter 11, you might not be able to use your GC anymore at that same day. Just be careful.

Guys, Don't forget that BB also sells those restaurant gift cards that you can still purchase with value card. I did last week.

I would not worry about that CC let people use thier GC until the place closed and its not like BB is the only store that carries those other various GC people purchase from there.

Ahh well just think to all the people bumming about BB you had it coming with the way some people were beating a dying horse around here but keep your head up there will always be some other place to go it just might be awhile. All you flippers and credit farmers will make it just go get some air..

I was just about to post something similar. The minute they go into bankruptcy getting money (and credit) from them becomes nearly impossible. All of their creditors line up with their hands out waiting to get paid. And anyone with a giftcard is screwed as you are last in line.

I for one will be clearing my value cards this week. There hasn't been a reason to keep credit there anyway for more than a month now.

GC's were accepted at both Media Play and CC during liquidation so don't get too worked up about it yet. The majority of retailers that go out of business still accept their GC's during liquidation.

Besides GTA IV 360 are there any other games that are good for transferring credit to GS for equal or greater value? I have $17 I need to move.

With all this bankruptcy talk I might have to spend some credit on higher priced items that I wouldn't buy with cash.... Bourne Blu-rays & etc.

Hmmm... I still have about $200 there. I guess I'll try to do at least one $25 bonus Wii trade-in at GS. I know I can get Table Tennis but I'm not sire what else they have. I was really holding out for a B1G1 sale before doing any of that. Damn them for being so mismanaged :bomb:... ;)

I'm still holding out a little bit....nothing much I want, so it is tough to spend my credit on something I don't want. Maybe I will just buy a Wii or something and EBAY it.

I was told that Assassin's Creed is now $13 or so NEW/SEALED. Just a heads up for those who may want the game. But be prepared for a hell of a plot twist very early on.....that's all I'm saying :whistle2:X And that's what ruined the immersion of the rest of the game for me.

I wish Hollywood Video would liquidate more old but good credit building games since I'm fresh out of credit at both Gamestop and Blockbuster now.

No wait, I have a whopping .09 left at Blockbuster. That can get me 1/12th of a candy bar there.

It was from Fox for the (already cancelled?) show "Sons of Anarchy." It was far more epic than the Dreamcar giveaway as all you needed was to enter any gamertag, email address, submit and refresh. No need to click through multiple pages.

Not cancelled, season 2 will be on in the fall (its an FX show)

I'm gonna check my BB tomorrow for Assasin's Creed.

I while ago I saw that there were disk only copies of COD4 for like ten bucks or something. Was that real or am I crazy?
GTA IV 360 was $10 when I bought it today. I'll be flipping it to GS for a $5 profit.
Use the promo, round up four other games for a $9+ profit instead.

Oh, I meant to post those earlier too.
Aerosmith is $8 for 360 and PS3, and $6 for Wii.
BBV does not take any Guitars on trade-in anymore, even at Gamerush stores. I asked two different ones.

I will be calling my local Play N Trades to see what they'll do tomorrow. YMMV with those, being franchises. One I went to in Florida was pretty unpleasant, dinky store, dirty, rude employee, slim selection. New one that opened near my town last year, very big, very nice and clean, friendly, knowledgable employees, good pricing, large selection.

And who bought all the Rock Revolutions off of Gamestop.com? I was going to get sets of that and Cranium for each of my local stores, until the whole CAG16 nonsense and SAVER not working. Then when I went back it was removed from cart because out of stock.

The cod4 deal was the biggest clusterfuck I've ever seen. Basically, you were a lucky sob if the BB had ever HEARD of that sale, let alone actually find one that followed it
The cod4 deal was the biggest clusterfuck I've ever seen. Basically, you were a lucky sob if the BB had ever HEARD of that sale, let alone actually find one that followed it
yea, two stores i went to looked at me like i was crazy when i mentioned the sale and the details about the sale. then the third store also looked at me like i was crazy, but had tons of disc only games (ones mentioned) marked at high prices though lol.
The cod4 deal was the biggest clusterfuck I've ever seen. Basically, you were a lucky sob if the BB had ever HEARD of that sale, let alone actually find one that followed it
There was no CoD4 deal - there was that disc-only thing though. And it was definitely real - my local BB still has a couple of Wii games from it. I think I'll get the Table Tennis for that GS promo, but I need 3 more...

Because of the $25 extra for 4 Wii games deal at GS I updated the BBV -> GS trade-in values section of the second post with the most up to date values from the GS deal thread. Note that many of these are from Feb or March but for the most part, Wii game values have gone UP at GS since the last time I updated in February! So there are a lot of ways to transfer credit from BBV -> GS.

Some examples:
Super Mario Galaxy $19.99 used at BBV -> $17 base at GS or $24.95 after Edge + $25 deal (GS quote from 4/3)
Table Tennis $9.99 (same price whether from the special disc only sale or regular stock) -> $7 base, $13.95 after promo (GS quote from 4/4)
Ninja Reflex $9.99 -> $5 base, $11.75 after promo (I mentioned this one because it is fairly easy to find at BBV and is good filler for the 4 game promo - however, beware the GS price quote is from Feb 22nd and it could have dropped).
Alien Syndrome $6.99 -> $5 base, $11.75 after promo (warning, GS price quote was also from Feb 22nd!)

etc... Just make sure the GS trade-in value is $5 or more for it to qualify for the deal.

During the disk I only sale I found a copy of cod4 for myself, my brother, and a friend. Also found two copies of halo at the same time, also given to my brother and friend lol.

I had rented a PS2 game which ended up being too scratched up to play in my system and they didn't have any more copies so I just left credit on the account and never got around to renting something again. I heard they were closing and went to the store to use up my credit, but they absolutely refused because liquidation had already started the day I went. I couldn't imagine having a lot of credit built up like when I had enough to get my PS3 and losing it like that.

I just checked a local Blockbuster (Atlanta) for the Assassin's Creed deal. They had one copy new...and the price rang up at 20.99 (down from 24.99).

UPDATE: Called a few more stores in the Atlanta area. Few have new copies in stock and when they do the system says it's 20.99. So the Assassin's Creed for 12.99 deal is still YMMV it seems.
Another good BBV -> GS flip:

Wii Bully $9.99 -> $10 base, $17.25 after bonus/edge
Typo? This is a 72% bonus

You definately can call some 800 number to reinstate your GC trade-in account credit. One of the local GC manager told me about it cause I have a few dollars left in the account associated with a closed GC. I did not bother to call the number though. If you want, you should be able to get your credit back.

No, he's talking about the trade 4 Wii games get $25 extra deal. That is $6.25 for each game on top of Edge, so $10 + $1 for Edge + $6.25 for bonus = $17.25.

Changing topics, I guess I'll have to check the Assassin's Creed thing myself today. I closed the other thread and changed the info here because it seemed it had been confirmed at multiple locations. BBV new games prices are NOT YMMV! The only things that are YMMV are mistags and franchise stores, and those don't count ;).

That Wii promo is really nice. I wish they were running it during the B1G1 because I was finding oodles and oodles of Wii games. It's only a little bit of frosting on top of the 5 dollar bonus they were running, but still, an extra 5 bucks for every four games would have added up nicely.
