Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Well, I got one request from a CAG to pick up Mario Sluggers. I'm heading out soon to get that and will take a quick pic of the new game table in case anybody wants anything else. It pains me to think of all these games being sent away. I'll verify it but I think they said they'd keep them out through tomorrow.

I also need to ask about what used games are being sent back. We need more info on that.
Has anyone ever seen controllers or accessories at anything less than full price? I'd love to pick up a cheap ps3 controller or blu-ray remote but they're always full price. Does anyone know whether these items were sold off to liquidators?
The Blockbuster I was at today said they were sending out the memory cards, controllers, new and used games and had a list of 500 or so items they had to scan before they were going to send them out.

Man, glad I saw people talking about this thread in the Best Buy sale one. Was able to grab the last $9.99 Professor Layton at my local Blockbuster this afternoon.
And what evil plan do you think they have for all those copies of Rock Revolution?
ship them to a communist country.
Rock Revolution tournament!!
oh wait, they need to have enough systems, and the game peripheral.

What gift cards are good to buy? is Amazon or GS in it?

Checked three BBVs today. All were scanning their new games, and had quite a stack going. I'm assuming you're all correct, and everything will be gone "Very" soon.

On a positive note, I traded in three copies of Rock Revolution today. Netted a 1600 MS point card, and then four Wii games which I traded in at Gamestop...The +$25 promotion ended yesterday, I was left with a wide open mouth staring at the GS employee.

But yeah, if you're able to get some Rock Revolutions for cheap, go ahead and get some giftcards, MS points, or something at BBV...It's like getting the stuff at half-price, well worthwhile.

When you say "new" games, do you mean new old games, or genuinely new games? If it's new old games then I can see why they would be gone soon, but if they're really new games- why would they be gone soon?

Help...

It is almost all the new games, but not quite all despite what we've seen reported here by others.

I went in to my store and they still had everything out. They are going to keep it out until 5pm or so tomorrow though they may get forced to pull it earlier. The manager said she'd keep them out if there's any chance I want to buy anything else. She said it is way better for them to sell them than send them back. I picked up a Mario Sluggers for a CAG (and there are 2 more if anyone is interested). I'll post some pics of what they have left after this.

I asked her to see the list of what was being sent back. They had 3 lists. The first consisted of the new games and it was by far the longest. It was everything that has been on sale. I checked for one DS game I knew that wasn't part of the sale and sure enough it was NOT on there. So that means they are keeping all of ONE DS game - New Super Mario Bros. So, anyway, that is at least some indication that they aren't sending everything back and will continue to stock new games in some capacity at least. We're heard they aren't getting more new ones in for regular sale (just preorder). They already had promo stuff up for Madden 10 so they are definitely continuing to push the sale of new games - just probably mostly (if not entirely) through preorders.

The second list were the trade-in games that were going back. It is interesting that they treat these separately from the converted rentals (which they call PRPs). This is where it gets funny. They had about 10 games on the list and I think I traded 8 of those in . Actually, I was surprised by 2 things. First, that there were 2 games on there traded by someone else. But also that I've traded way more games in than that - so they, apparently, have been selling at least some of the stuff I trade in (though apparently they are keeping a few too - the Rock Rev I traded in 2-3 weeks ago was not on the list). I asked her what the future of the trade-in program was going to be and she said it will continue but there have been 2 small changes recently. The first we knew about - a memo about not accepting games without cover art. The second is that they can't take games with accessories (probably prompted by all the Singstar trade-ins of which I did one at this store). She said she doesn't think they'll be making them send back future trade-in games because it would really hurt them not to be able to sell them (ie, they'd give credit out for the games but not even have the chance of making a sale).

The final list was the smallest (at least relatively speaking vs the stock they had on hand). The converted rental list was maybe 10-15 titles long. But they have way more of those than trade-in games so they are keeping a good portion of that stock. That bodes well for any possible future B1G1 sale since those were always most useful for the converted rentals anyway and not the YMMV trade-in stuff.

OK, here are a few pictures of what I can still grab tonight/tomorrow if anyone wants it. There are a few other things not shown like SC IV and Spiderman Web of Shadows - but with both of those being $25 I figured no one would want to pay that + shipping on those. I do wish I had gotten a SC IV from Best Buy but oh well...

I really want to give this store as much money as possible (since the manager is awesome and one of the cool former GR guys works there) so I'm willing to get these for anyone at cost.

If anyone is able to get a Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings, I would be interested in it. None of the stores in the area had it. I even drove all the way out to one 30 min away because they said they had it only to discover that the person meant rental even though I asked if it was for purchase.

So, I would really appreciate it if anyone might be able to pick one up?

i dont know how they chose which games to keep. we kept 5 new games at our store out of about 150. 2 copies of ps3-haze, wii-mario super sluggers, 1 ds game and i think enemy territory. talk about random. looks like traded items within the last month didnt make the list since i traded in 2 RR and those were the only 2 trades not on the list. and we sent back about 20 out of 50 used games (actually called POG not PRP. again random stuff. i'll know tomorrow if there will be a b1g1 free sale within the next week. they send us the new "MAP" on tuesday so we know whats going on next week so if there is ever going to be another b1g1 sale i should get a 1 week notice unless they just decide to spring it on us which they tend to do.

No doubt it is...they'll probably be getting pennies on the dollar from whatever liquidator they sell the games to. They really need(ed) to step their game up for this sale, why not put signs in the windows advertising some of the better deals like "XBOX AND PS3 GAMES FOR 9.99! ASSASSIN'S CREED, ROCK BAND!!!', or do some newspaper flyers. Look at the crap people were buying for ten bucks at Best Buy! I saw empty 9.99 place cards for that PS2 Mummy game(!), Hellboy etc. Assassin's creed would have flown off the shelves at Best Buy if it was part of the sale.
And then you've got stuff like Deadliest Catch and Viking that just aren't going anywhere at $14.99. I'd consider them at $7.50 or $9.99, but $15 is a bit much for generic titles like that, given all the other, better games they have on offer. I wish they would have done some further reductions rather than just giving up.

As a side note I found one Blockbuster that managed to screw the sale up - they had a big table at the front with all the undesirable/ho-hum games, including 2K8 sports stuff, yet several of the better games were locked up in a display case at the back of the store with no indication that they were on clearance! I liberated a $10 DS Zelda from them (still stickered at 34.99!), they had PS3 Hot shots also locked up, amongst others, and weirdly enough also had a large selection of original Xbox games (no, nothing worth anything).

Thanks for the offer, didn't see anything in the pics though, looks like your store is down to the same kind of stuff that's still sitting on the shelves at most Blockbusters. I wanted to give my BB some sales too, I bought a DS Clubhouse games for no real reason, lol.

I was at a store today that still had clearance games out and when I asked about shipping them out, they said they would be doing it "soon." Also was at another store that had boxed up everything but they still had a Fallout 3 CE 360 sitting out and they said it wasn't something they needed to send out--so not all marked down games were sent out, probably just the really cheap ones (20-30 or less)

My local store, who told me they already sent everything back, still has copies of Mario Super Sluggers, Haze, as noted, and a few others. So there's at least a few titles that survived the purge.
I pressed for info about a B1G1 or any other promotion, but she knew nothing.

Yeah, there isn't too much but a few things that I have not seen at any other BBV around me (they sold more quickly from the other locations as mine is somewhat isolated):

:ds: The Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games ($14.99), Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles ($14.99), Guitar Hero On Tour bundle ($19.99)

These I have seen more places but you never know, I had another CAG who wanted Sluggers so I thought I'd offer to get them:

And on the table: Mario Sluggers of course ($19.99), Battlefield Bad Company, Far Cry 2, and a few others.

Now that I think about it, they did quite well over the weekend by having a sign in the window as you suggested dinovelvet - they painted "New PS3/Xbox/Wii games as low as $9.99 last days - till Tues" or something to that effect. Then over the weekend they had them all outside on a table. Things I remember from last week that sold: Wario Land, Bioshock for PS3, Lost Planet, GTA IV, Pure, Ninja Gaiden II, Saints Row 2, NCAA 09, and QoS (strangely enough).

I think they actually did quite well and now I can see why the manager is perplexed they are sending these back. To be sure, a good portion of what's left needed another price cut, but still they could chop a lot of those $14.99 games to $9.99 and probably sell them eventually and do better than what they are getting from the liquidator.

I went to blockbuster tonight and alot of games where gone...

Can you still buy other store gift cards (Macy's) with your store credit/value cards/BBV gift cards? Is it YMMV or not allowed anywhere?

PS3 Singstar with mics still 36 TIV as of last night.

Alot of new games were stacked on a desk to be sent away so I picked up Super Mario Galaxy for my new Wii. They let me go through them and said they would be sent out Tuesday. Also traded in Rock Revo for each console, both still @ 19. Every Best Buy I go to has giant stacks of those so I pick up one or two and hope to trade in a bunch before the TIV drops. I'm trying to avoid a ban by spreading them out over a bunch of stores, but at this point how bad is a ban anymore with the way BBV is looking. I like having credit for rentals at the one across the street from my house and there will probably be good sales like this every now and then so some credit will be good.

Does blockbuster sell Wii Point cards? I didn't see any or a place for them with the cards last night at that BBV.

The ones I've been too have had them. They have been on a bottom shelf, usually, along with classic controllers, nunchucks, etc, but note that those things aren't actually sitting there, there are placeholders for them, so that might be tripping you up. They are either cards or maybe generic boxes - I can't remember. You have to take them up to the counter to get the real thing. Or so I presume as I've never actually bought one.

I just looked at the stand up that has all of the gift cards which includes XBL and PSN cards and didn't look in the Wii accessories section. I was in a hurry and the lady working looked at the stand and figured she was out. Thanks, I'll look there at the next one I stop at. Can't wait to get Super Castlevania!

Rock Revo for ps3 held yesterday at $19. I noticed at my local store that all of the new games and clearance games were gone. Must have got shipped back already.

Well, even though I got in on this sale late, I went to 3 BBVs yesterday. The first had already shipped everything back. The second had two boxes full of stuff they had pulled but let me look through them. It was all crap. As they say, the third time's the charm, as the last store I hit also let me look through the boxes they had pulled, but they actually had some stuff. I bought Lost Planet colonies for 360, and Warioland: Shake It for Wii, which is the main thing I would have wanted from the sale, so I'm pretty lucky/happy.

Glad to hear you got in on it Lord Alfred. Wario Land was all over the place at the beginning but it seems to be another one of those that sold a lot of copies and I wasn't seeing it so much the last few days. I know my local store sold all of theirs.

I guess I'll have to change the OP now as for sure it will be ending everywhere today. So sad...

So used games are getting shipped out too, eh? That's unfortunate. Like IO postulated, the trade in program could be gone soon... good riddance I'd say, except for the fact that I won't have something to do for ten minutes every Monday (the tiny updates to the third post)

Just when I find this list of clearance games, the sale ends...

Update: I went in and looked around, didn't see anything that looked clearanced. When I asked the clerk he said it ended last week.

My GR said they are just shipping back older games to go to the mysterious overstock company. They are keeping newer games, and the used inventory is still available. Can't wait for these to show up at biglots :)

Just to be clear, it is a large number of used games, though mostly the ones traded in and not, by any means, all of their converted rentals. So there's still a lot of used stock left that could be good for a B1G1 sale. It is not quite RIP yet for BBV. ;)

Well, you have a small chance of finding stuff before close of business today - might as well check it out if you are close to one.

I want one more B1G1 before they go out. Aren't they wanting to make some quick cash anyway? There's so much 14.99 games that I would love to get, and my areas are so chock full of games (which I'm a tad upset that stuff is getting shipped out-- I won't be able to save one of my flipped copies of End War and Prince of Persia like I wanted)

I checked two stores last night that had already packed it up for the week. D'oh. I was hoping to trade in my last RR for a new copy of Boom Blox. Alas. Maybe I'll just buy it used with the credit.

Went in and traded in 2 x Rock Revolutions and 1 x infinite Undiscovery for $56 store credit and had to walk out with a 4000 points card as all the games were gone.

Not a bad deal from only having spent $30 this weekend at BestBuy. May go back to a second BBV to get more points. My Best Buy had tons of RockRevolutions so its not a bad deal to pick 2 of them up and get yourself a 12+1 subscription card or 2 x 1600 points cards. =)

Crap, you mean IU gets $18 in trade? That seems odd as I think they sell it for $34.99 used. Had I known that I would have definitely pre-purchased one at Best Buy and traded my old used copy. Damn... Maybe I can still track one down. Of course it would have been nice to spend that credit on the games I got last week instead of cash but I don't mind having $20 or so sitting around for the 99 cent rentals.

For some reason BBV gave me credit for tax?

Rock Revolution x 2 @ $19 each
Infinite Undiscovery x 1 @ $15
Tax Credit @ $3.18

Total Credit for $56.18

???

Yeah, they do that in some states but not others. So just $15, eh (as that's all I'd get here). Well, I still might do it if I can track down a new one.

Did they ship systems back and everything, or just games? I'm currently selling my old PSP online...debating if I want to pick up another with credit just to use the rest of it....if not, I'll get some gift cards or maybe pre-order Madden 10 or something.

we sent our ps2 systems back(not sure why we carried them in the first place)but we havent stocked psps in our store for over a year. we did not send back our ps3 or x360 systems.

they'll love u if u preorder madden since it is one of our priorites this week.

Traded: :360: Rock Revolution, got :ps2: Odin Sphere $14.99, :xbox: Conker (disc only) and Fable (disc only) for $1.99 each. so ~$11 for all that out of pocket, not bad. All Xbox disc-only games are $1.99 now, and I noticed there were a lot of them now. A ton of their used stuff is gone, even the n64 sports games! :O

Might go another Rock Revolution trade at another Blockbuster or two and see what's still around.

Has anyone attempted to trade in the Singstar Country bundle? I'm curious to see if it goes for anything close $38. I picked up a couple at Sears, and the extra effort to buy Singstar (PS3) at GS is just not worth it to me.

I reported yesterday that one of the two new directives with regards to trade-ins was that they do not accept games with bundled accessories any more (the other being that they don't accept games without cover art). These were the only recent changes to the trade-in program that the manager of my local store was aware of.

Any idea of when the PS3s will be removed from the BBVs?

I've a nice flipping plan to produce an older, backwards compatible PS3 that one of the BBVs has.

I would love to know if they're going to be a permanent item, if so I'll continue building up credit.

Thanks

i havent heard about us sending any ps3s or x360s back. all we carry at our store is the $500 80bg transformers bundle. i think that is the only version that bbv stocks at least in our area. we used to sell the 40gb but not anymore(do they even make those?)

that is a lot of flipping to get to that point. good luck.
