Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
thanks! is there a limit when you buying game?
The incompetent stores will make up their own rules, but corporate sends out flyers that say "Limit 5 of same game per promotion, 20 games per transaction".

Don't worry about the 5 game per promotion thing, I bought well more than 5 GTA 4's during the last sale on my account and they never did anything. Though I honestly would've loved to be the first person on CAG that was banned from both trading & buying. I'm pretty sure BBV cant afford to be telling people they're not allowed to spend money at their stores.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-

:)

Yeah, I was actually hit with the 2 per title limit last summer during one of the big sales. Apparently they didn't want to get rid of all their copies of Spiderman 3 . But I guess that is a corporate policy. I don't think it will be a problem this time as they barely have 2 of anything anyway.

Man, the Amazon thing is going to be hard. They just dropped a bunch of trade-in values. My local BBV had 2 copies of High School Musical 3 for the Wii (a fine title to abuse for flipping if there ever was one as few on CAG would want it ;)). It was showing $10 on Amazon earlier Monday but I just checked and now it's down to $3.50! Holy hell - they make no sense... Also, Baja for 360 took a dive from $12.50 to $6.25! Anyway, there's no value in the GS thread for HSM3 so I guess I'll pass. You need to be extra careful buying BBV games you don't intend to keep because there are no returns (yet another reason to prefer Gamestop!). I mean, back when they had awesome trade-in values I could live with a few bad purchases, but not now.

I'll probably check the Amazon values again before I head out in the morning just to be safe - or at least make sure the games are also good at GS if I can't use them at Amazon (eg, Baja is $12 at GS, so probably still worth picking up).

I just remembered yesterday I saw Spiderman - Web of Shadows for the Wii marked 14.99. You might want more confirmation before adding it to the OP. I only saw it at 1 store. What sucks is that the GS TIV is less than Spiderman Friend or Foe for the Wii.

I just want a couple games and couldnt care less about flipping. My local bbv has a gta4 and a motorstorm so Im happy with that for 15. I might still get rid of the pure and quantum and maybe my grid for the fight night, but still debating on that one.

Hi there my fellow CAGers, I have a quick questom. I rented assassin's creed for ps3 and it's enjoyable enough that I may want to keep it. My receipt says keep it for just $14.99, if I do buy it at that price can I a) ask for the display box (comes with manual alteady) and b) can I get another game for free as part of the b1g1 free promotion?

If you buy the assasins creed during the b1g1 promotion you should be able to get another game for free and the sale is a national promotion.

Wait what no returns at BBV? is that new? the Last B1G1 I had 30 days to return something, which I had to do pretty often with GTAIV for the 360.

I just got back from mine (Ann Arbor), and the clerk said I had 30 days although my receipt says nothing about the return policy.

I got:
PS3
Haze, Bioshock, Army of Two, Mercenaries 2, Conan
and Viking for the 360 all for $37

I had to ask the clerk to adjust the price so I got one of the 14.99 games for free.

I just got back from 2 stores in the detroit area and there is no sale. What the heck is going on.
Just called the first BBV I went to (I didnt ask while I was in there) and the women said that there is a sale and they will let the other store (The one I did ask and the lady said there was no sale) know.
The thing that sucks it that there is really no selection.

Just got The Incredible Hulk - 10
Mass Effect - 15
Locks Quest - 10
and The World Ends With You (i figure why not, eveyone says its great) - 10

Last copy of the Hulk was great since thats what i wanted. Pissed they didnt have Ninja Gaiden 2 or Devil May Cry 4...

Returns are really YMMV. Corporate Policy is that BBV doesn't offer returns on used games, but they do offer a 30-day guarantee. Some managers are cool and allow returns, but some don't. It kind of sucks because stores get penalized for doing returns. It makes no sense, but that's how it goes.

Passed on Bioshock and Battlefield BC (both ps3) as they both were in generic cases...ps3 games look terrible in generic cases

Also, saw no Mirror's Edge. (This was the Parma, OH BBV - I asked about other places that may carry it and the response was "we won't carry it if we haven't and it's already out" :whee: they totally missed the point about searching nearby bbvs)

Picked up QOS and Spiderman Web of Shadows both for 360. Register automatically applied the discount. Not many games to choose from and the manager said I was the first one to use the promo.

My local BBV has a ton of games that are disc only, is Gamestop the only place that I could trade them in at? Do they knock a few $$ off the posted TIVs?

I picked up spiderman web of shadows, devil may cry 4, eternal sonota, bioshock (ps3), universe at war, frontline fuels of war, dark sector, and ninja gaiden 2 all complete with original box and manual for about 55 bucks. Im pretty happy about the outcome i had to go to three bbv to get all this too. Also saw/passed on gta4(disk only),mercs 2.
My local BBV has a ton of games that are disc only, is Gamestop the only place that I could trade them in at? Do they knock a few $$ off the posted TIVs?
GS is supposed to knock off some money off your TIV if you trade in disc-only games, but this is YMMV. I have one GS near me that never charges these types of fees and another that is really anal about the condition of traded in games. More accurately, it's really dependent upon the CSR that takes your games...

nooo, another cager in my area. go away! :) which parma store did you go to?

just grabbed:
web of spiderman 360
QoS 360
Folklore Ps3
bioshock ps3

kept bioshock and traded the others for FNR4 at GS. GS charged me $3 for a scratch but whatever I'm still happy.

went to 2 BBs for the games. one of the BBs said they were top 5 in the nation and would be putting out more games throughout the week. might want to consider checking any stores around you later in the week too.

lots of games left and even ones qualifying for FNR4... although I really dont feel like trying to do the gift receipt thing to get something else
Made off pretty well. Just wish I had more cases :/. Any suggestions? I know it's not a huge deal but it bothers me
I would have asked the guy if I were you to look for extra PS3/XBox 360/Wii cases. They usually always have them and will gladly swap out the games in generic cases for them.

I traded in a Singstar 1 bundle left over from the Toys R Us B1G1 1/2 off sale and picked up $36 and then turned around and picked up GHWT (29.99), The Bigs (9.99), and Top Spin 3 (9.99) for about $5/6. All games I plan to play so I'm pumped :bouncy:

Just picked up Lego Batman and Bourne Conspiracy for the 360.

They were opening some boxes when I got there, so I asked if they had any new shipments of used games. It was just their usual movie shipments (noticed a stack of Unborns behind the counter), but the guy mentioned something about the sale going on for two weeks , and they might get some more in during that time.

Also noticed that Flatout: UC (360) dropped to $6.99, so there might be a tiny chance to break even with it through the current Gamestop deal.

Same here no sale so don't know what the deal is. Also called a different store and same thing. The store I went to did have all game guides at half price. Maybe the sale varies by location.

Ran into a CAG at a store, he gots the GTA IV I saw there last night:bomb:

Hit a few stores, able to get
We ski(2)
Okami (2)
Mirrors Edge PS3
Bioshock PS3
Folklore PS3
Fire Emblem DS

Was really having a brain freeze figuring out what games were worth getting between Gamestop/FYE/Amazon trade in promos. Passed on plenty of OO7s. Figure they will hang around for awhile have until the 12th get Fight Night rd4.
Going to try to get to 4 more on my way to work tonight.

Spiderman Web of Shadows (360)
Eternal Sonata (360)
Spiderman Web of Shadows (DS)
The World Ends with You (DS)

All for $27. I'm going back after work and picking up more.
I asked but they said no, Ricca.
Shucks. Usually they do, sometimes they don't. It's been quite more hit than miss for me.

Question to everybody who got The World Ends with You. Are your games complete with original cover art and manuals? I really don't want to walk in my local BBV if I can't get a complete copy. They think I'm a criminal for trading in 3 copies of Rock Revolution back in April.

Out of the 3 Blockbusters I went to this morning, only 1 was having the sale. Managed to pick up the World Ends With You and Incredible Hulk. Both are complete. I was kinda bummed at first 'cause TWEWY had atrwork and everything but in a standard BB dvd case. But I was pretty suprised when the guy asked me if I wanted a DS case with it. So, I got a perfectly good, complete copy of TWEWY in its original DS case. I was quite happy leaving the store:D

My local store had no idea about a sale. I asked both people there and they had no idea. They actually seemed kind of annoyed that I was bugging them at 10:30. They had a few games I wanted to pick up too. :bomb:

Regular employees could very well not know about the sale. As long as its not a franchise store, the sale will be running regardless. The register will automatically discount the games.

I hit 5 stores in a little over an hour this morning and saw zero competition. They were already pretty cleared out of Fight Night eligible trades but I grabbed whatever they had left and managed to snag a few copies at GS on the way home. To finish out b1g1f deals I was grabbing high TIV Amazon games so the day was a great success. Little spent and big profit just like the good ole days of Gamerush. :D Thanks again for the lists!

NOT ON THE LIST Top Spin 3 - ps3 $9.99 at BB -> $8 at Amazon.

EDIT:

Only three stores knew about the the deal and only 2 of those had signs.

Thanks GuardianE and Nirisin for letting me know. I only really want that game and Crackdown. I'll call my BBV first before I walk in there just to make sure they have the games.
My TWEWY was complete with case and instructions. Perfect condition, too, aside from the obnoxious stickers. Probably a converted rental.
Ditto, actually all of the DS games I picked up are complete :)

Animal Crossing DS rang up at 19.99 but was tagged 14.99 so I got with the b1g1 but is more than likely ymmv.

Huge haul today don't wanna bore anyone with a list, but man do I hope Zelda DS drops to 14.99 this up coming weekend :)

Yes you can get the display case assuming they have it, you just can't get it till you buy it of course. Now, rentals are different with me than the rest of the nation because central florida is kind of a test market. At my store, you HAVE to wait until the 11th day+ to buy a rental, there is NO manual way to sell the rental to you. If they can still force the computer to sell it to you, you should be able to use it for the promo, but ymmv.

I'm not allowed to give random customers movie/game cases, but if some of you are buying something, by all means ask if you can get the original artwork/book or correct case with it. A lot of times the employees at my store that handle transfers from rental to used don't always quite care that the game is missing something, I'm anal about that for my own purchases so I always check when someone buys a used game from me that is missing anything. Not counting people trading in stuff to us, we get covers/books 1:1 to every single rental we ever get. Sometimes transfers from other stores could be missing something or it's possible for something to go missing on it's own, but more often for incomplete games on the shelves I'll find the stuff behind the counter with all of our game inserts.

Picked up 007 and Spiderman: WoS for 14.99 today, There was a copy of bioshock but I couldnt find anything else I wanted yet. That GS deal on FNR4 is soooo good to me.

glens falls, ny store had the sale on but a very slim selection

saratoga springs, ny store did NOT have the sale on and also a slim selection.

I did however score Civilization for the 360 on clearance at Sears for $9.97 so not a total bust

In for Bioshock and Mercs 2 for PS3. Do I need to be a member of BB in order to buy them? And do all blockbusters sell games? Srry for the stupid questions
