Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I will check again tomorrow. I think I saw ONE copy of Spiderman, but it was marked $29.99. If I can get that, 007 and maybe somethign else....FNR4 will be mine :)

I went to a few blockbusters today. My first one I got a nice haul, and than I traveled all the way back across to the other side of my house and realize the broad forgot my games...some of it is my fault, since I should have checked.

However, I call her, and she said thank god i called because she realized what she did.

So I went to Blockbuster and brought in the games she forgot to slip in the dvds. BUT, before I did that I pulled out my deblob cd and told her she forgot that one too...pretty scummy, but for that massive waste of gas and time (on the road) I figured I needed to get something for reimbursement.

Same thing happened yesterday, well kind of. I went to the final BBV I haven't checked out...hit the jackpot...but this store didnt take anymore copies of Wheelman and Tenchu. So I traveled 25 minutes out of the way to trade them in at another BBV. Turns out none of the employees working there knew how to trade games. I had to travel ANOTHER 30 minutes, back roads and through a storm to finally trade in my games. Than I made the trek back to the first BBV, with 15 minutes left on my games behind the counter (the manager gave me 2 hours to come and get the games).

fuck incompetent employees wasting my gas...sometimes people like this force me to support machines like the redbox and vending kiosks...luckily I want there to be jobs so I don't/

Entire day spent for 4 games. Went to all eight blockbusters in Manhattan (I think there are only eight).

Picked up:
DMC4 PS3
Mercs 2 PS3
Fracture PS3
Metal Slug Anthology Wii

For the most part selection is limited. Hopefully they restock before this sale ends.
Does anyone know when that might be by the way? I asked the clerks at the BBVs and got completely different answers. Or are they all right and its different from store to store?

Thanks.

I got PS3 Conan for me & PS3 Condemned 2 for my pal for $9.99 total. My local store is always kinda scarce on good stuff. I may try some of the others in the area tomorrow.

Now I gotta see what I can get in trade for my 360 Conan on swaptree or something.

So did you like... rip them off 1 game? I'm not sure I followed you there.

So because you forgot to check for discs before you left the store, you decide it's okay to commit theft? Two wrongs don't make a right.

Went to around 3 blockbusters, and here's what I found:

DMC4 PS3
007 Quantum of Solace 360
The World Ends With You
de Blob 3x

All for $43.57. I'll be able to keep a copy of de Blob, play through TWEWY this week before trading, and still be able to snag $42~ in Amazon credit by mid next week. I'm pretty happy, especially since I'll have some filler trade-ins to reach the $50 for 1/2 off coupon.

I went to my BBV today. They're having the sale, but problem is they have a total of 16 used Xbox 360 games, all of which are $25+...

They weren't advertising it in-store either.

Went to Blockbuster last night, traded in Afro Samurai ($15) and two copies of Cranium Kabookii ($16 each). Picked up 2x Spider-Man:WoS (360), GTA4 (360), GTA4 (PS3), LEGO Batman (360), Okami (Wii), and 2x 007 QoS (360). No problems at all (well, other than having to go back because the girl forgot about one disk, but no big).

Tonight I go back there to get a few more games, traded in two copies of Tenchu: Shadow Assassins ($15 each). Picked up GTA4 (PS3), Folklore (PS3), 2x Incredible Hulk (360), TWEWY (DS), and Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword (DS). I get rung up and am about to leave the store when I look at my receit and notice the three free games were all $9.99, when one was suppossed to be $14.99 (Folklore and GTA4 were both that price). I mention that to the lady, telling her how it's suppossed to be rung up in pairs, however she would not budge. To make things worse, she was the manager! I know I should not complain too much over $5 considering how many cheap games I got, but still, it just bugs me. I'll probably end up calling the Customer Care phone number from the receit tomorrow and see what they say.

all bbv's get a rental conversion report on sat. and have 4 days (sun-wed) to convert the rentals. we usually get 10-15 titles to convert so i wouldnt hold my breath on any big transfer. we also get a reprice report every saturday for things that will be dropping on sunday. so hopefully a few new titles will drop into the $14.99 price range to qualify for the sale. i will post any changes sunday morning.

Thanks again hawaiiboy for your continued efforts. One drop I'm hoping for is Kane and Linch for 360. Yesterday it was still 19.99. It would be nice if it dropped to 14.99.

The manager at my local store told me that there would be a "shipment" of games later this, or next week, this is likely what he was talking of.

Yoinked Universe at War, Hulk, Ironman, and Project Syphleed (been looking for this for a while, I "hope" it's good) for myself today...Also snagged enough games for two copies of FNR4 and >$50 for the Amazon trade-in, which I was really gunning for. I thank you all for the information, my Gamestop credit's through the ceiling now, along with my anticipation for my X4 Wireless Headset!!!

Thank you all.

Huh. My local BBV didn't have any signs at all for the sale and had nothing really of interest at all that was $14.99 priced. Would have loved to snag SpiderMan: WoS. I'll try another store tomorrow.

why are people picking up mercs 2? there were a lot at my store but i heard it sucked and the demo sucked

can someone post, PM me any flipping deals I happen to be missing? there was a big selection at my 3 stores, but i dont know which to get since most of the games arent actually fun :p

Todays haul All 14.99
Baja: Edge of Control x2
007 QOS
Bourne Conspiracy

Baja is getting 9 bucks credit a Gamestop with the 40% and edge if you trade in 6 or more that's 13.50 pretty good flip I'd say. All in all not as good as yesterday but did make a good flip on these games this is probably my last run to BBV unless there are some new games added.

Only got to one store today but was able to get:
360 Bioshock, 007, Lost Oddessy and Folklore.
Guess I'll pull the Fightnight deal/gift receipt/return scam.

Maybe we'll get a good coupon at Gamestop this week to put towards something flippable.

5 for a ps3 game is 4 cheaper than a rental and I dont know about anybody else... but dark sector is a game people trashed but I sorta enjoyed it.

Also, best way to check is to compare the list on the main page with amazons TIV search function. They are lower, but generally scale at a constant.

Mercs 2 is stupid, but it is fun. If you play for 1 hour and don't hate it so much that you go into a rampage and destroy your system and TV you have probably gotten $5 out of it.

Hey everyone, was able to score a few good titles; but I have a trade request for a copy of Bioshock ps3. I was able to pick up the 360 version of Bioshock, but really want the ps3 version. Can anyone help me out?
You didnt happen to get a bioshock slip cover in that?

I keep a lot of manuals/cover art myself if im trading into stores with DBag employees. :)

Speaking of which, I have a spare TWEWY manual if anybody missed one in their personal copy :)
I'm missing one...

I picked up another copy of Tenchu from GS and traded it and Cranium (which I bought from another BBV for $5 via this sale!) and got $31 credit ($15 and $16 respectively. I then bought Kung Fu Panda (Wii) and Okami (Wii) for $9.99+tax.

They had a copy of Baja and I believe Incredible Hulk, so tomorrow I'll go back for those - I didn't know the trade-in value at the time. Thanks for the update on those.

They had a ton of copies of Quantum of Solace (360). Maybe I'll get a few of those too, but not sure.

not sure if this was a franchise store but in Sterling VA, I got for the DS:

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time &...wait for it...wait for itt...
Professor Layton! For 14.99

Was picking up some used movies so I impulse bought wall.e (for the kid) and kane and lynch (really need some co-op since my cuz moved in)

i JUST joined CAG yesterday and hit up a few BBVs during my lunch break today.
Not much in the Bellevue, WA area, but i think i found the last copy of Bioshock (PS3)!! Came away with the following, all complete:
Bioshock, Folklore, Mercenaries 2 (yeah, heard it's buggy, but i'm a trophy monger), Army of Two.

CAG FTW!!! sorry, always wanted to say that....i'm such a noob

Went back to another BBV today and, although they didn't have signs posted, the sale was on. Picked up Ninja Gaiden DS, Locke's Quest, Bully (360) and Quantum of Solace (360).

As someone mentioned earlier, it did ring up in a way that I would have to pay for two $15 games and get the two $10 free. I explained to the clerk that it should be cheaper and he agreed. So I ended up making 2 transactions...one with the $15 games and one with the $10 games. For $26, I think I got some pretty good stuff!

Got some info from from a fellow Houston area CAG lorne and decided to head way out east Houston also known as Webster, TX ^_^ .. so here what I found:

Fuqua/Sabo - Did NOT have the sale

Scarsdale/Beamer - Picked up Bourne (360), Bad Company (360), Lock's Quest (DS), and No More Heroes (Wii) .. Selection size not bad but mostly Baja

Clear Lk City/El Camino - Picked up Lego Batman (360), Frontlines (360), Ninja Town (DS), Fire Emblem (DS), Castlevania Curse of Darkness (PS2), and MGS 3: SUBSISTENCE (PS2) O_O .. Very small inventory

Bay Area/El Camino Rd - Didnt check if they have the sale going on but selection was so bad .. never seen so many freaking copies of Frontlines

Marina/S Shore league city - Closed earlier than the other stores .. >

Went to 2 blockbusters in SoCal got:

14:99
007 Quantom of Solace
Bourne Conspiracy

6.99
Condemned 2
Dark Sector

Was hoping they would have GTA4/Lost Odyssey since I want to play those also but looks like none had it.

I hate everyone who got a copy (or 2, like many of you did) of Okami at a Blockbuster... I hope you all get an ear infection.

I went to Blockbuster to get a copy of Okami and they didn't have it... all they had was garbage. Basura. Trash.
Did anybody in northern nj area find a copy of folklore or pick a copy up? Could not find the game at five different stores.
Hey bud try your luck at a Sears, they have Folklore clearanced for $9.97. I bought it for the FNR4 trade in and tried it the night before, dug it so went back to Sears and got another one for $9.97 for myself - pretty cool game, sick graphics.

Btw went to a BBV in Denver today and scored Bioshock and GTAIV for the PS3, gonna flip these w/ QOS (360) for another copy of FNR4 - still haven't gotten COD:WaW so want to return it for that more than likely, unless someone wants to trade for it :)

You just went to one? Hahahahahahaa.
so the only games that qualify for the fight night deal at GS are GTA and Bioshock from this sale?
Check the fight night thread, there are at least 4 more. 007 Quantum, Folklore, MX vs ATV Untamed and Web of Shadows are the ones I know just off the top of my head.

I'm headed to another local BBV tomorrow to get rid of the copy of LBP that I haven't played in over 2-3 months so I can grab another copy of GTAIV for PS3 and maybe Bioshock for PS3 or some other good PS3 game, IF I can find both at the same store.

I was lucky enough to snag a copy of 007 QOS and the lone copy of GTAIV from my closest BBV the other day for the FNR4 deal, but now my one buddy wants to play against/with me at night on GTAIV online so I'm being a pal and finding him a used copy(since I don't wanna crack open my Special Edition copies of GTA IV since someone may eventually want them on CAG:roll:).
Folkore, QoS and Spiderman Web of Shadows.

Scored Bioshock and GTA IV today. Already got Bioshock but I am using it to get FN4.
Don't forget Banjo and Kazooie Nuts and Bolts for the 360. I got it for $14.99. This was in reference to games to trade for FN4.

Can anyone help a fellow CAGer out? I have no Blockbuster or Game Rush Stores near me. I am wanting the FNR4 deal from GS but I am short two games (or at least two I want to part with) Any chance anyone would pick up two titles needed for the GS FNR4 deal. I would be willing to pay more than just the $14.99 plus shipping.

Just an update to the list of games: Quantum of Solace is 9.99, for DS. Also, an addition that I've seen commonly at stores, Wall*E for 9.99. Also, in addition to Rayman Raving Rabbids, its sequel RRR 2 is also 9.99 for Wii. Also, I've been seeing Tomb Raider Legend for 360, 9.99.
Could be they were franchise stores. Or it could just be that they didn't retag things and forgot to put up the B1G1 signage. I went to a few stores yesterday that didn't have the signage up, but for the most part things were correctly tagged (though I found a few $14.99 things still marked $19.99). There haven't been any huge price drops any time recently so chances are things will be correctly tagged even if they are slow. That indicates to me your stores were probably franchises. Like I said a few posts back (last page), look at the sign above checkout - if it says the name of a store manager and district manager then it is most likely a corporate store. If that isn't there, then maybe it is a franchise. Just ask though.
Hey io, appreciate your insight. Definitely helpful. Thanks!

I'm gonna hit a couple more blockbusters tomorrow, hopefully with similar luck to those in this thread!

Over the past couple of days I've scored:

:360: 007 Quantum of Solace x2
:360: Spiderman: Web of Shadows
:ps3: Bioshock
:ps3: GTA4 x 2

:360: DMC4
:360: Burnout Paradise

I plan on keeping the last two, and maybe at least trying out WoS before I trade the rest in for the Fight Night deal at GS.

For those of you who are keeping track or need help, this was in Orange County, CA. I hit up all the stores in Irvine (none of them had anything), and the two stores in Newport Beach. Of the ones in NB, the one on 17th still had a couple of copies of :360: 007 as well as :360: Lost Odyssey and a :ps3: Bioshock. The BBV on Jamboree and Bison had a lot of copies of GTA4 for both systems.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33

I know I'm probably gonna get my head chewed off for this, but does anyone know the TIV to BBV for Little Big Planet for PS3?

I just ask since I didn't see it in the first post and I really haven't played mine in forever.

I'll probably just call once they open today and find out, since I wanna pick up a set of Mercs 2 and GTAIV for PS3 so my one buddy and I can game via co-op on the PS3 over the net.

I went to one BBV and when the employee scanned GTA IV for the PS3 and other games I know are under $14.99 he said they were the what the sticker prices were $29.99 for GTA IV. I went to another BBV and they were all the correct prices at $14.99 and under. He said it was a corporate store....

If their TIV isnt high enough for you dont hesitate to send me an offer but I understand if you dont want to. Also we should play Mercs 2 together sometime. I dont know if I should keep Mercs 2 or go return it and get the Club instead. What do you guys think?? I already have played Mercs 2 and think its pretty fun and the explosions are F'in AWESOME and probably cannot be beat for 5 bucks but still.

I believe $29.99 is the new price for GTA IV. That is one of the few games they still have new copies of and it may be hard to tell the difference because they generally have empty cases out for new games too (but give you a sealed one from behind the counter when you purchase it). Either that or he just scanned the UPC code and not the BBV bar code for used game sales.

But I did see a GTA IV for $29.99 on an end cap today and I took it to mean it was a new copy.

I hit up a 10th store today and found some decent stuff including a near mint Baja (which I passed up at another store because it was scratched to hell), Bioshock for PS3 (so I can trade the other one I got which has a minor scratch - no big deal, but it's the first I've ever seen on a PS3 game) and, finally, TWEWY! This store was just in the process of correcting price tags and putting up the signage for the sale Weds afternoon so I had pretty much the pick of their games as no one else there was aware of it. This is also a BBV in a small town so that worked in my favor - once the correct signage is up it will get ransacked since there aren't a lot of other options for game purchases there (only Walmart I think). But while it was still "secret" it was good going ;).
