Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Went to another local store and for $20 picked up.
Fear Files (360)
VF5 (360)
Okami (Wii)
Williams Pinball (Wii)

I had Okami already, so that just went to Gamestop for $10 towards Madden 10.

Man, I'm really getting destroyed today. Didn't realize QoS PS3 wasn't B1G1 worthy. Found a Folklore at one secluded BBV, but couldn't find a single game worth pairing up with it. I'll go back on Friday and pick anything that trades in for more than $5 base. I'll have a few trade-in values this afternoon, but for now I can confirm that Condemned 2 on PS3 now trades for $2 base at Gamestop... Bummer...
People talk about this from time to time, but it's really YMMV depending on what state you live in. Some states (like Oklahoma) still charge tax when using credit.
They charge tax here in Hawaii when you use credit.

Today I was at the mall and bought 1 Wheelman ps3 and 1 Bionic commando 360.

Then I walked about 20 feet over to FYE and traded Wheelman ps3 in for $20 CASH and Bionic Commando for $22 CASH.

I have much more to contribute later about my deals today, but I have to go eat, brb.
For those of you who think flipping is a waste of time, I just found out today (some reading this may also not know this) that the trade money put on you GS card can buy ANY items in the store TAX FREE. I realize many of you probably already knew this, but I have read well over 500 pages at this site and have yet to come across this fact. In just a weeks time, with the different trade-ins I have made, and subsequent purchases, I have saved almost $50 in tax. Just another reason why flipping to earn store credit isn't so stupid. Again this post is intended for newbies lilke myself.
very much YMMV. I still pay tax on things I use my GS credit on here in MI.

Silly Oklahoma. I know that the whole tax on credit really annoys me as well. IIRC, Texas charges tax too... but I don't really pay attention to many of my receipts anymore since I've been in OK and figured it's a lost cause :/

I hope those were transactions from GS credit (BBV->GS) because otherwise you got 42 cash for a 43ish Dollar transaction :( That's a quick way to get money out of the bbv->gs->bbv->gs->FYE transactions though :) My FYE doesn't take games, sadly.

Just to confirm what someone else said earlier, I went to a BBV today and asked if they would sell the rentals. The guy said to me that he would sell the rentals if you keep it for 20 days after renting, but otherwise no. Then he told me he would check out the titles in question to see if they had been rented recently or if they had any previously viewed copies that didn't have copies on the shelf. They had 12 previously viewed GTA IV for the 360, I only bought one, but I was also able to grab about 3-4 other games that they didn't have visibly on the floor.

If you can find a manager or knowledgable employee, it's worth asking them if they have any in stock.

Looking foward to your insight. I'm hooked on FYE, just wish my big lots would put out the damn DVD box sets already!:bomb:
Returned a Fight NIght Rd 4, got Bionic Commando, Wheelman, and Hawx, traded them right into Blockbuster for $69 in credit. If I was as slick as you I could have gotten some cash.

Mario and Sonic Olympics(disc only, in PS3 cases!)
DS Iron Man
DS Walle
DS Viva Pinata
DS Rayman Rabbids Tv Party.
Going to keep some DS games. Guess I'll have to find a few things to do the tiered trade in to get rid of M and S.

I'm sure FYE will catch on really fast. I wouldnt be surprised if tomorrow their TIV's were like $4. I wouldn't have thought to trade in to FYE, but I was in the mall and it was pouring down rain outside so I didnt want to leave. I was just walking around killing time when I remembered about FYE. I should have asked how much I'd get for HAWX. I have about $300 in GS credit right now and I still have a FNR4 to return, so I could go apeshit and get my friends to trade in stuff for me to FYE to get cash for my credit. I just don't want to trade more than 1 copy at a time because they'll think I stole them.

How much are Singstar mics used at GS? If they trade in for $2.50, they must cost less than $10.

Singstar Vol 1 $17.99
Mics $9.99
BBV TIV $36
at the worst you would make $8.

Made a late run just before closing time. Here are some Gamestop trade-in values:

Iron Man Wii - 6.75 (10.13)
Igor - 3.75 (5.63)
Guitar Hero: Aerosmith - 3.50 (5.25)
MX vs ATV: Untamed - 6 (9.00)
Iron Man 360 - 5 (7.50)
Quantam of Solace 360 - 7.50 (11.25)

My worst run, by far. Got stuck with credit at one BBV because the manager refused to take value cards. At least I didn't lose out on anything besides Condemned 2 ($2 TIV). In any case, I stopped by a BB just out of town and picked up:

Mario vs. Sonic x2
Mirror's Edge 360
Bioshock 360
QoS 360
GTA IV 360

I hit this BBV up on Tuesday and not a single game was picked up since then. I truly think I'm the only CAG out in this neck of the woods.

I read about GS not charging for tax with credit either, but had forgotten. Anyone know if you still have to pay tax in Florida? It's only 6% on the dollar here and whenever reading about online orders and not being charged for tax I've never seen Fl listed in the exceptions.

i always forget to post my TIVs, but as of 7/9...

bioshock ps3
GTA 4 360
Okami
Universe at War
Condemned 2
MX vs ATV Wii
House of the dead 2 and 3
Guitar Hero Aerosmith Wii

...all held their TIVs.

I noticed that tax was not charged on purchases made with Edge Card credit, but was charged with credit put on a gift card.

I don't know where you guys are from, but I always get charged for tax in so cal and I use gamestop credit all the time. Why today alone, I traded in 3 games for the FNR4 promo and I had to pay tax (checked and my gamestop card was scanned).

Yes, it is always 6.5 when I'm in FL. I think theres an extra .5% sales tax in the county I'm talking about for schools or something. Sry, it must still be 6% where u r.

Umm I'm pretty sure I've pm'ed you before regarding flipping in Ventura County, that's where you are at right?

Last summer I hit up all the stores from TO to Ventura on my commute to my internship but stopped after I went back to ucla.

I just was about to start up flipping again but if you've cleaned out the stores I might as well forget about it.

Which ones did you hit, if you dont mind me asking?

Is there an updated BBV to GS TIV list? I looked for one 10-15 pages back but I got tired. Ugh. Its a lot to read.

Credit to Io for this, it was back on page 182 and probably has changed a little. Guess it's as good a time as any to bump it.

Yeah, these gotta be like deleted monthly. Lol.
But um, my xbox fucked the shit out of my FNR4.. will GS return it? also, if i trade it in with the 6 games deal, will i wind up with refurb fee? lol. in which case idk if it's worth it :p

Just beware that list is old and many of those have dropped considerably with the lower MSRP's (new and used prices dropped at GS, thus trade-in values dropped as well). In particular, avoid all the Iron Man and Hulk variants! I did post a smaller list of just the 2x and better ones the other day. Maybe tonight I'll be able to remake the full list with the latest values.

As for myself, I did manage to get to a GS and then to a BBV last night. I picked up Race Pro and a Bionic Commando and made a nice $46.20 off of $37.98 spent at GS. Here in VA (where I am for work this week) there is a nice little setup where you don't pay tax on GS purchases (if using credit) btu you get tax credited to your trade-ins when trading at BBV! So I actually made money off the sales tax - awesome! The BBV had clearly been untouched by CAGs as they had lots of good stuff from early in the sale (Iron Man, Hulk, etc). They had a GTA IV for 360 but I couldn't find anything to pair it with so I just passed on everything. So now I have $46 at BBV that I probably won't end up using for this sale. Oh well...

Then later I was up in MD, where the tax situation is the complete opposite. There you pay sales tax on GS purchases and they don't give you tax credit when trading to BBV. So I'm glad I did my trades down in VA first. I went to one BBV in MD and it had even more stuff mostly due to them having incorrect price tags AND no indication of the B1G1 sale. Still, most of it was disc-only and I just didn't feel like digging through everything (I checked for Uncharted, though, which they didn't have).

I did get a Deadly Creatures used at GS for just $12.xx though (after Edge + coupon). Considering that is the credit I got from like one copy of Iron Man or Hulk from BBV that was well worth it.

The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos,
i always forget to post my TIVs, but as of 7/9...

bioshock ps3
GTA 4 360
Okami
Universe at War
Condemned 2
MX vs ATV Wii
House of the dead 2 and 3
Guitar Hero Aerosmith Wii

...all held their TIVs.
Very minor nit-pick, but I think you meant 7/8.

so is mirror's edge confirmed to be $15 for the 360 making it part of this sale? (if i can find a copy that is..)
its 10.25 - 10.75% in california.
Not to be rude I love Cali. But 10.75 sales tax WTF!!! And you guys are still broke!? I mean I used to live in PA (6%) and now I live in DE (no sales tax) so I guess I'm spoiled.
Hit up all the stores in Oxnard and Ventura. May hit up Camarillo, Newbury, and TO today.
Damn, well guess I'll go to the beach instead of running the bbv route.

I didn't bother with Newbury and TO. Found a fucking beast in a city no one would expect. I can easily make five more copies of FNR4 from that BBV. Today was my best day, by far.
Does anyone know how much used Singstar mics are at GS to buy?
I know you can get a 2 NEW Singstar mics for $25, but I'm not sure about the used mics.

If you're trying to trade in Singstar bundles, it's probably not worth it. There are plenty of solid flips back to BBV now.

hit up a couple bbv in chicago got these

farcry 2 and mercs 2 for 27 dollars
virtua fighter 5 and condemned 2 for 11 dollars.

the first bbv i stopped at had all used b1g1 not just 14.99 and under

Is July 13th or 14th the definitive dates that this deal will expire? Just wanted to make sure so I can plan out my schedule appropriately.

Io,

Where were you in Maryland? I am trying to plan accordingly for tomorrow. I've been all over the area so perhaps we can swap info so there is no wasted time.

Looks like we got a 360 coupon this week. I called a blockbuster i was quoted $17 for Shaun White Snowboarding and its $17.99 used at GS. If someone could double check that tiv that would be great.

Has anyone been able to confirm any other decent flips from GS to BBV? Maybe PoP or the Wii Zorro? I would call, but seeing as there's only one BBV near me that still takes in trades, I would be pretty obvious to them since no one else trades there.

TIV at BBV:

HAWX PS3 - 19 ($20 new at GS)
HAWX 360 - 15 ($20 new at GS)

Bionic Commando PS3 - 25 ($20 new at GS)
Bionic Commando 360 - 25 ($20 new at GS

Wheelman PS3 - 25 (not sure about this TIV, $20 new at GS)
Wheelman 360 - 22 ($20 new at GS)

Tenchu Shadow Assassins $15 > $15
(use the weekly WII 20% off coupon)

Race Pro $19 > $19.99

Cranium Kabookii $16 > $12.99
(use the weekly WII 20% off coupon)

MLB 2k9 Wii - $15 (selling for $18 at GS, use the weekly WII 20% off coupon)
Night at the Museum BotS - someone mentioned but not confirmed TIV, is selling for 360 $25 and WII $30 at GS w/out coupon

It's the best flip to BBV money wise, at least $8, possibly up to $14, or even better if you can get a bundle on clearance at TRU and also trade in the game. I don't want to tie up more than $20-30. There are better BBV to GS flips, but I haven't found any of the games for sale at BBV.
