Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Would love to know this also.

Haven't people had many issues with Singstar bundles? I've read in this topic that BBV has refused trade-ins for this title. In any case, here are some trade-in values.

7/9 GS TIV's:

Crash of the Titans '07 - 9.25 (13.87)!!
Mario & Sonic @ Olympics - 11.50 (17.25)
GTA IV 360 - 14.00 (21.00)
Wii Sports - 7.25 (10.87)
Universe @ War - 4.50 (6.75)
Guitar Hero: Aerosmith - 3.25 (4.87)
Lock's Quest - 5.50 (8.25)
Mercs 2 PS3 - 6.00 (9.00)
Endless Ocean - 9 (13.50)
Igor - 3.50 (5.25)
Folklore - 6.25 (used with FNR4 promo)
Quantam of Solace 360 - 7.50 (FNR4 promo)
Bioshock - 7.00 (FNR4 promo)
Condemned 2 PS3 - 2.00 (3.00)
Sonic Chronicles - 5.75 (8.63)
Has anyone been able to confirm any other decent flips from GS to BBV? Maybe PoP or the Wii Zorro? I would call, but seeing as there's only one BBV near me that still takes in trades, I would be pretty obvious to them since no one else trades there.

TIV at BBV:

HAWX PS3 - 19 ($20 new at GS)
HAWX 360 - 15 ($20 new at GS)

Bionic Commando PS3 - 25 ($20 new at GS)
Bionic Commando 360 - 25 ($20 new at GS

Wheelman PS3 - 25 (not sure about this TIV, $20 new at GS)
Wheelman 360 - 22 ($20 new at GS)

Tenchu Shadow Assassins $15 > $15
(use the weekly WII 20% off coupon)

Race Pro $19 > $19.99

Cranium Kabookii $16 > $12.99
(use the weekly WII 20% off coupon)

MLB 2k9 Wii - $15 (selling for $18 at GS, use the weekly WII 20% off coupon)
Night at the Museum BotS - someone mentioned but not confirmed TIV, is selling for 360 $25 and WII $30 at GS w/out coupon
wheelman for the ps3 does get 25, traded one in tonight.

Hit one last blockbuster in my area in Moore instead of Norman, scored my long lost 360 Lego Batman and picked up that bikini zombie wii game for my brother. Never found a Mirrors Edge.

Ended up over in Moore for Korean Market and Dong-A for dinner. Kimchee soup, Mandu and all the fixins! Yum!!!

The games were just kind of a bonus.

I picked up Viking: Battle For Asgard and Conan, both for PS3, for $10.59 total yesterday at the Dunmore, PA store. They had nothing left that was decent after I bought those. Has anyone seen a copy of Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom for PS3 as part of this sale? I'd love to grab that and Genji again, since I never did finish either(or Conan) before using them all as trade fodder. Shame really, since I got all of them for $15 or under the first time around and now they're near impossible to find used for under $20(FYE has Untold Legends for $22.99 used).
Haven't people had many issues with Singstar bundles? I've read in this topic that BBV has refused trade-ins for this title.
They only refuse trade in if their particular store has reached the limit for taking it in. Most people should have at least one store that will take it.
Io,

Where were you in Maryland? I am trying to plan accordingly for tomorrow. I've been all over the area so perhaps we can swap info so there is no wasted time.
I went to all of one store in MD - in Gaithersburg. It had a few things but I was in a rush so I didn't bother. I also just went to another store in Virginia (Alexandria) that was right near where I was working and they didn't have any signs up either and dammit if they didn't have an Uncharted, complete with original cover art too... Too late to get that for the Amazon trade though. I didn't even know this store was there or I definitely would have hit it up yesterday when I could have traded it.

Today I bought a couple of Wii games at GS and passed up a Cranium Kabooki. I guess I should have bought it but I still can't shake the feeling that it is some sort of trap ;). (Plus I've traded a few already).

No, it is way worse than that with respect to the Singstar bundles - they are not supposed to take any trades of games with accessories. It was sent out in a memo that apparently a lot of store managers didn't read - but many did, too. I have 2 or 3 of these bundles at home and they are just taking up space since I don't even want to try trading them.

That sucks. This should probably be updated then in FoS's TIV list. http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5588429&postcount=3

Does anyone know if you can still buy gift cards for other stores at BB with store credit? I had $80 in store credit and attempted to buy a subway card but he said i couldn't. I then asked if i could just buy a $80 BB gift card and he said no. I know that was a lie because i've bought one before. I just wanted to know if they changed the system so you cant buy gift cards for other stores anymore.

I found a ck but w/out cover art and manual. Will bbv take a generic GS case for trade?

I believe they did away with this months ago.

Just bought some Macys cards recently. The trick is to transfer to credit to value card first.

I got 2 Cranium Kabookis for $10 at one BBV (they had at least 6 copies for some reason ;) didn't scan my membership card of course) and traded them in at 2 different BBVs in another district for $16 each.

According to irishsoccermbw, Professor Layton :ds: currently trades in for $20 @ GS and it's $14.99 at BBV.

so BBV $7.50 --> GS $30 (Edge + 40%)!!!
I think I passed up a few copies too, time to go back and pick them up.
I saw Mirror's Edge-360 today tagged at $15. Can anyone else confirm this price?
I can confirm that Mirror's Edge is currently priced at $14.99. Was lucky enough to find two copies.

I believe it was posted that the drop was this week. Even if it wasnt correctly tagged, they would probably price adjust because of the tag.
Well, it is sort of really old news - that memo was 2-3 month ago. Probably at this point the memo has been forgotten by a lot of BBV employees ;). I know many CAGs have been able to trade recently - it is just more YMMV than any normal game trade, that's for sure.
I apologize beforehand because this will be long and it's a little bragging, but it has a few good points.

I recently posted a question if I could get banned if I traded in 1 game many times at one time at 1 BBV. The answer was YMMV, but I should spread it out. From my experience at 5 BBVs, you can not get banned.

The reason I asked was because I found a TRU with 8+ Singstar vol 1 w/ mics. Once I got the answer, I bought 4 * $7.98 (20% off) minus $5 off coupon = $29.17 and another 4 minus coupon for the same $29.17....total 8 Singstar.

Frist BBV in NY, I traded in 2 and got $78.04 credit (They added the tax...original $72+tax)
Second BBV in NJ, I traded in 2 and got only $72 credit.
Third BBV in NY (different location from the first), I traded in 2 and got only $78.04 credit. (They added the tax...original $72+tax)
Fourth BBV in NJ (same location as second BBV), I tried to traded in 2 more, but the assistant manager say no. I asked why and she told me that they don't accept SS. I told her that I just traded in 2 SS 2 days ago...then she say "so you're the one......oh, we reached our store limit on SS". I said "what, I'm the one? WTF". She said that the real manager was very mad that they gave me the $72 credit and she was told to not accept any more SS. I told her that "if the store really reached it's limit then the register couldn't accept the trade in, please try scanning it". She kept shaking her head and muddering, but she scanned it...boom...$36. She said "shit, ok I can only let you trade 1 SS because it scanned in...please go to another BBV for the other one. I told her "no prob". I asked "Am I ban or something". She said "no, you can trade in anything except for SS".
Fifth BBV in NY, I traded in 1 SS for $39.02.

1 reason why I spread out the SS was because with $70+ credit at 1 store...there isn't enough games to buy for the B1G1. You have to pick 8 $15 and 2 $10 games. This was really hard.

In all, I kept a lot of games ....many were for the FNR4 trade at GS.
I returned 3 FNR4 for cash so far and I have 1 left (maybe keeping it). Note, NY give you $65.01 cash (tax).

I still have balances at my local BBVs and balances on the Value card from the far BBVs.

I am so sick of looking for any more GTV4, QoS, Bioshock, and Forklore for both PS3 and Xbox. I am done with the FNR4 trade.

The important thing I wanted to focus on was: If BBV employee says that they can not accept SS because of the store limit, tell them that if BBV corp didn't want SS then why does it ring up in the register? If they tell you that they have a memo. Ask why would the corp send a memo instead of just remove SS from the system or lower the TIV to $1.

Thanks for reading,

Store manager can tell you whatever they want and you can complain to corporate, but if they say you can't trade it, it's their call and you have to go above them and hope someone sides with you. There's not a physical limit in the computer to how many games of the same type you can purchase, but they pay attention to that too during these sales. I mean honestly, I know CAG is all about good deals and flipping but you and I both know you're selling them crap that won't ever sell at those prices and they're giving you way too much credit for them. A flaw in their system but don't act outraged when someone covers it up, even if not perfectly with some kind of change in the computer.

Well, that's good news for you, but there are plenty of folks here who have gotten banned either on a single store or district level. So. It's YMMV. :)
I don't remember the price (think its either $6.99 or $9.99 by now), but I've seen a used copy of Untold Legends at one or two stores.
I thought it was really cheap, but I wasn't 100% sure. I think I saw it at one local store when this sale first started, but I didn't get back to there to grab it and now it's disappeared. It was actually complete too, which is a shock since many of the games I've been seeing for the B1G1 are ending up like Gamestop quality, meaning disc only with no coverart or manuals.

I passed up a copy of Hulk for PS3 last night since it only had the 'display only' coverart and NO manual. If anyone has the game and could tell me if you REALLY can obliterate the city this time around, then I may pick it up at another BBV before the end of the sale.

Otherwise if it's just a port of Ultimate Destruction with a toned down color pallette, I'll pass.

Just to let you know I've been to the majority of the Fairfax stores so there is not too much left. I also went to one in Alexandria today but damn it if thet didn't have a single game to go with the GTA IV 360. I guess I could have bought it for full price but the cheapass in just couldn't do it.

I got banned by the district manager about a month ago, and was told that it was because I was trading many copies of the same game at various BBV.

The day they told me, I said, OK, and just walked out feeling bummed. Apparently, why I was on my way to the car, the employee called the store manager and asked why. The store manager called her district manager and couldn't get a hold of her, so she called "loss prevention" and they told the store manager that I was doing anything illegal, so they saw no problem with it.

They tried to get to me in the parking lot, but obviously, I was long gone. I found this out when I went back to the BBV this happened at for this sale, and they allowed me to trade in a SSV1 Bundle.

So it is very YMMV. Just don't go hog wild and try and trade in a billion copies of crap.

Igor (wii) - 5.25
What about flipping GS to BBV without the original cover art or case? Will they accept it?
Generally not any more. In addition to not accepting games with bundled accessories (which apparently many BBVs do anyway ) they are also not supposed to accept games without original cover art (the rule is they must have a UPC to scan). I used to be able to get them to look up games in the past if they were special editions (or those GS exclusives like the alternatve version of Race Pro). After having trouble with something like that a few months ago due to the new memo I decided to stop hassling with it any more since the return on most trade-ins is so low anyway.

As for the Singstar bundles, I would really like to trade at least one more, but I traded a few several months back and at most of those stores they still remember me as the one who traded them so I wouldn't want to try it again. I did hear somewhere else on CAG that Gamecrazy might give $19 or so for them, so I'll probably just take them there. Problem is they will harass me about their utterly useless MVP program which I let expire - so I dread going there. It is way worse there than at GS (where I happily suggested I renew my Edge card the other day since, clearly, that pays for itself within weeks).
According to irishsoccermbw, Professor Layton :ds: currently trades in for $20 @ GS and it's $14.99 at BBV.

so BBV $7.50 --> GS $30 (Edge + 40%)!!!
I think I passed up a few copies too, time to go back and pick them up.
Pretty sure that's inaccurate. I traded in a Professor Layton to GS on Wed. and it got $11, just like what's in the list in the GS TIV thread. I mean, its still a great flip, just not as great as that.

Stupid a$$ Blockbuster... one of the employees yesterday denied me a B1G1 on 2 $9.99 used titles... Claimed that one of the Used titles must be $14.99 and then anything under is free.. well after a little arguing and telling him to show me exactly where it specifies that I told him well I guess this store wants to put out its own set of rules and not make any money.. and left..

WTF was that....

It was listed on the big board of trade in values and I had the guy check. Not sure if he meant the one thats coming out in August or the one thats already out however.

That's when you call the district manager. There's a sign hanging in every Blockbuster.

It's a worse, less refined Ultimate Destruction. Spiderman Web of Shadows is a better game, if you have that option.
Another game i found at blockbuster to keep for myself that wasnt on list.

Dragon Quest Swords for wii - $14.99
Yeah, sorry, I saw that really early on and I think I mentioned it here but apparently I forgot to add it to the list. It's in there now anyways. I only ever saw it at one store out of about 15, now, that I've been to.

Well, I guess the Wheelman/Bionic Commando flips are still good. Thing is, while I really could have used that last week when I had to resort to cash purchases at BBV, I'm sort of back in the mode of thinking BBV credit is useless. There isn't much to get now with all the GS TIV drops and any credit I get now at BBV will just be sitting around till the next B1G1 and who knows if/when that will happen... I'm much more interested in transferring GS credit to Amazon now.

As it is I did flip a Race Pro and Bionic Commando here in VA and got the tax bonus on top so that was nice (as they don't charge tax for Edge purchases here either so you save on both sides!). It's too bad the 360 coupon wasn't active for that Race Pro but I suppose if I can find one in the next few days after I get home I can return it using my receipt from here and make it an even better flip. I think all that was left at home were the "GS exclusive" cover versions. For GS purposes those have the same UPC though, right? I mean the used GS UPC code is the same I would assume. So hopefully I can buy one that is useless for BBV but good for returning with my old receipt. That would be my first ever return of a use game within 7 days at GS - which seems remarkable given all the buying I do there. I've just always been able to keep them or get rid of them the way I intended (BBV or Amazon flip, etc).

Now I'm worried. So the district manager can ban you after I traded in everything? WOW, hope this doesn't happen.
Does each BBV store tell you that your account is banned when you visit?
Also, what does the ban actually do? No more trade ins, no more rentals, can not buy during B1G1 sale, can not enter store, etc?

Thanks

I apologize  for my earlier statement....I just thought since I got to trade in the SS and no one mentioned banning...I was in the clear. But now, I'm hearing about a district banning and I'm worried.

Store must have updated the board too soon (and guy must not have know what he was talking about). My bad.

Readthepost - it's just that many CAGs have found out only after returning later to trade something else in that they are banned. It happened to me that way. It is usually a store-level thing. In my case the DM called a few stores and told them to put in a ban. Eventually it all got cleared up. This was for trading copies of Beowulf in to about 4 stores. I did one PS3 and 1 360 copy at the same time at a couple of stores which raised their suspicion. All it takes is one clerk being a "junior detective" who takes a whim and runs with it. You may or may not be able to clear things up with the DM later. They usually assume you are trading in stolen items so if you offer up receipts that can clear you. But sometimes they just don't care and won't do anything about it.

A few CAGs have been hit with system-wide bans but that is much more rare. In all cases, I believe, you are only limited from trading - you can still buy, rent, use your leftover credit, etc.

Having said all that, more likely than not you are fine. I just wouldn't take the word of a clerk or two about it either way though. They NEVER call and let anyone know by the way, as nice as that would be (a call and an explanation would be appropriate but I've never heard of that). You'll only find out when you try to trade something and a note pops up for the clerk telling them not to let you trade.
