Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I think Shaun White Snowboaring gets $17 in trade in and its $17.99 at gamestop (360).

is gamerush going less towards used game sales? i went to 2 different ones and back in the day they had shelves and shelves of used games, now they only have like a handful they had probably less then 50 used games for sale and most were ps2 games, plus one was selling a bunch of paintings and beatles stuff

I probably made my last bogo purchase today. Found another Lost Odyssey and Strikers for Wii was (probably mis)marked 14.99. Not a bad way to finish off a successful sale run.

Can confirm some of the price drops for tomorrow. I'm not sure when they switched to Monday drops but it seems they always used to be Sunday. In any case, they are holding GHWT Wii and GH Decades (which is dropping to $14.99 - not sure about the original one) for me.

They let me look at the sheet of drops. Here are some other ones: :ps3: Bourne Conspiracy and 007 Quantum of Solace to $14.99...

I'm going to try to hit up a few stores on Monday but it will be tough due to family emergencies/commitments...

BBV today GS
Universe at War - 360 - $6.99 - $6.37 with 40% + EDGE
Elebits - Wii - $6.99 - for keeps
Spiderman: WoS - 360 - $14.99 - FNR4
Baja: Edge of Control - 360 - $14.99 - $7.50

Shellshock 2 for 360 I was disappointed to find as 24.99...

I think I snagged myself a pretty good deal :

Folklore
Grand Theft Auto IV
Haze
Condemned 2
Monster Madness:Grave Danger
Unreal Tournament 3

All for 48 bucks and some change. Games I wanted to buy too.

I really want to get folklore, checked our computer's and one store like 35minutes away has it. But..bleh...I'd have to drive later today then go to work. And it's in Orlando...I hate driving in the city. But buying at GS for 26$(then b2g1+edge) seems like so much more. Ahhhhh.

some tivs via phone today:

Shaun White Snowboarding (x360) $10
Spectral Force 3 (x360) $10
X-blades (x360) $17
Naruto Broken Bond (x360) $15

We had a game reprice to do today and a game pull that was done yesterday. Only like 2 games total were hitting 14.99 and they were pretty worthless ones. Which of course means they might be decent traders, it seems that a lot of crappy games are heh, but I don't remember them. It's inventory specific but I didn't see anything worth getting at all so I wouldn't count on anything big dropping or getting moved over to used.
So Blockbuster is selling two different laptop models?
As far as I know, the one I snapped a photo of is the same one mentioned here previously (by hawaiiboy I think). I could be wrong though.

Yeah, looks like its the same model he mentioned initially:
Just a heads up looks like BBV will start selling the Archos 10 netbook next week for $299.00. It's only going to be in select stores so ymmv. Not sure if that's a good price or not(probably not) but I thought I would put it out there.

The computer is a mini laptop, like 10.4'' screen. Archos. 160gig HD, 1gig ram, some kind of "atom" processor(never heard of this, only for laptops/minis I guess? I don't pay attention to mobile tech). Comes with a tv tuner(I guess, sounded like it), wireless card.
To clarify, it does not come with a TV tuner I don't think. I'm pretty sure its just some pre-installed software for watching some sort of TV stuff.

I saw the same laptop at a store in Claremont, Florida yesterday. This is one of those hole-in-the-wall-rarely-stays-open-late-never-any-customers Blockbusters, so I would hazard to guess they could appear just about anywhere.

Also found some hardcover Fallout 3 guides at $17.50 in another store, as part of the guide clearance.

Just called -

GHWT - Wii - 14.99 as people have posted here.

TIV @ BB
XB360 - Bionic Commando - $25

TIV @ GS

GH on Tour DS w/o Keypad - $2
GH on Tour /w Keypad = $10

Spamfree2 - not even sure it is GH On Tour that is $14.99 at BBV. I know Guitar Hero On Tour Decades is though. My little local store had 2 of them used so I would imagine that is available everywhere. I'm getting that for my son since I got him the bundle earlier (from Radio Shack). I would imagine most BBV stores won't have the original GH On Tour with the attachment anyway. They had lots of them new back during that new game sale, but they shipped them all off at the end.

Thanks for the trade-in quotes, guys. We need to find out about PS3 Bionic Commando (I would assume it is still $25 but you never know).

I'll ask when I'm there in a bit, but chances are someone else will beat me to it.

Luckily when I called, the guy had heard about the laptop. It is an item that can be searched for although the store that had it said it was $300. For $230, I was already making plans to do some flipping but for $300, nah.

Some changes highlighted to Naruto, Spectral, x-blades, Race Pro, and Wheelman. No confirmation on the others.

Regarding the Archos-10 netbook, I didn't have them verify it or anything, so it could have been mis-tagged. Tag def. said $229.99 though.

Dude, everybody grab Professor Layton if they see it today!

I traded in another copy of Professor Layton and the Curious Village in to GS today and it is in fact fetching $20 base now. That's is ri-god-damned-diculous! I was doing 6+ games plus Edge, so I actually got $30 for that game alone! So, buy it as part of a $14.99 B1G1 and its $7.50 BBV -> $30 GS (if done with 6+ games). That's $3 more than what GS sells the game for used. LOL.

Man, I'm a dick. I didn't thank Io or the other CAG's who helped make this possible for everybody else. These threads have given me so much fantastic gaming at little to no cost, it's ridiculous. With that said, I offer my sincerest thanks and gratitude to all who have assisted with this sale!

I could possibly make one more run, but I think I'm burned out. In the end, with a cash investment of $25~ (thanks to previous sales and a bit of GS credit saved up), my flipping produced:

Nintendo DSi (new)
Knights in the Nightmare
Luminous Arc 2
Dark Spire
Professor Layton
Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Spirit
Final Fantasy Tactics: A2
Suikoden Tierkreis
Henry Hatsworth
Bangai-O Spirits
Disgaea DS
The World Ends With You
Etrian Odyssey 2
Chrono Trigger
Contra 4
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 preorder (paid off)
Bioshock 2 preorder (paid off)
Fight Night Round 4
$220 Gamestop credit

Which games are you trading? I'm specifically looking for games that are 17.99, 26.99, and 44.99 that I can flip to BBV for near even prices of what they cost me with the B2G1.
Man, I'm a dick. I didn't thank Io or the other CAG's who helped make this possible for everybody else. These threads have given me so much fantastic gaming at little to no cost, it's ridiculous. With that said, I offer my sincerest thanks and gratitude to all who have assisted with this sale!

I could possibly make one more run, but I think I'm burned out. In the end, with a cash investment of $25~ (thanks to previous sales and a bit of GS credit saved up), my flipping produced:

Nintendo DSi (new)
Knights in the Nightmare
Luminous Arc 2
Dark Spire
Professor Layton
Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Spirit
Final Fantasy Tactics: A2
Suikoden Tierkreis
Henry Hatsworth
Bangai-O Spirits
Disgaea DS
The World Ends With You
Etrian Odyssey 2
Chrono Trigger
Contra 4
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 preorder (paid off)
Bioshock 2 preorder (paid off)
Fight Night Round 4
$220 Gamestop credit

Very nice haul! I absolutely love b1g1 money trees, myself :)

Well it seems I got a junior detective on my case today.

On Saturday, I hit up an out of the way BB which last time I was there had some disc only 360 GTA IVs, so as the sale was ending, I figured I'd swoop in and take what was left. I picked up four of them (and before I get the cries of hoarding, I waited until the end of the sale, and I left several more copies there. And some of them still had January stickers on them so obviously they weren't going anywhere).

So I take them to the counter, where the clerk is a dumpy, middle-aged woman type. She sees what I'm carrying, and explains to me like I'm a retard, that these are all the same game. I say, yes, I had noticed, trying not to sound too sarcastic. She starts acting like this is the strangest thing she's ever seen. OK, it is perhaps not usual for someone to buy four of the same disc-only game, but she's asking me why I want them and what I'm going to do with them, so I just said I had friends who all wanted the game. Ahem. Anyway, a couple of the discs were scratched, so she looked through some other copies that were lying around and I got the four "best" ones.

On Sunday I did the GS flipping rounds and got rid of the GTAs, with other games, for GS credit.

Now today I come on to CAG and see that the GS promo has been extended for another month, and today is the last day of BB's B1G1, so I think...dare I? Yeah, I'm going to get the rest of the GTAs, and flip them to GS over the next few weeks. So I return to this same BB, get three disc only GTAs and a random DS Prof Layton that I found.

As I approach the counter, I see her again, milling about. Not wanting to deal with her Spanish inquisition again, I went over to the other younger dude standing there. I was wearing a baseball cap last time, and was not today, so I thought she might not recognize me. No such luck; as he's ringing up the games, she comes over, picks up the GTAs and comments "Came back for the rest?"

I just said "yes" and started acting like I was busy looking through my wallet. Meanwhile the guy is showing me each disc for my approval (I've never seen another BB voluntarily do this, btw) and she's snooping around and clearly doesn't like what I'm doing, i.e. giving Blockbuster money for merchandise, apparently. Then she claims I'm trading these back in. She looks up the TIV for GTA and sees that its $3, so she concludes that I'm not trading them back in. Meanwhile I'm saying absolutely nothing and wearing a poker face, I figure I'd let her go through her motions and see what happens. So she calls someone up, a manager I presume, to tell him that some guy is buying all our Grand theft autos (which I wasn't, as it happens, there were at least two still left), and what is she supposed to do. I asked "Do you want to get rid of these, or not?" but didn't get a response. She said the word "internet" on the phone but I didn't really get what else was said. I guess the manager's answer to her was something like "whatever" because she hung up and said the dude could just ring me up. So, done.

I don't get it. We all know that Blockbuster's finances are in the toilet right now, getting hammered by Netflix and Redbox, and she's standing there trying to PREVENT me from giving them money? Damn. Anyway, I didn't use store credit, because I don't have any left, so there won't be any weird remarks left on my account, unless she goes really overboard and looks up my debit card info, or whatever.

Hey Dino, I see this the same way you do. As the store, You put a price on an item and so long as someone is willing to buy the item at that price, WTF do you care how many of them I buy. They should be happy that I'm buying them. If the items were going to sell to someone else, they probably would have sold already. If the business could sell them for more, they would have priced them higher. Some people seem to see the causal connection between their employer selling inventory and them having a job.

wow sounds like a bitch, theres no limit on the # of games you can buy, and its none of her business what you do with them.

Found a Mirror's Edge today and just to check I asked if GHWT or SWTFU had dropped as I "have a buddy" who works at a BBV and said that ME had dropped. They assured me that all the prices were marked correctly and check back on Sunday. After they scanned ME and saw it HAD dropped they were happy to look up the other two games, neither of which had dropped so I ended up pairing it with TWEWY. Oh well.

There is a limit, enforcing it is up to the employee since I'm 99% sure the computer doesn't care.

Heh...the junior detective story cracked me up. If only there were such diligent and vigilant cufflinks to harass true hoarders, and not just the flippers....

Ah well, to the point of my post. I thought for sure hoarders and flippers would've raped and pillaged the BBVs near me, and for the most part they did, but I came away with two rather sweet gems. On top of the Fracture, Viking, Quantam of Solace and Web of Shadows I picked up, I manage to snag two copies of Fallout 3! Ah, nothing beats picking up one of the best games of last year for a measley $7 bones each!
the local BBV manager said to expect this sale to get extended 2 to 3 more weeks due to overstock and bad sales. i guess we'll find out tomorrow
REALLY? bad sales? with so many people capitalizing on this sale? that greatly surprises me
