Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
Ok couple things wrong here
1: Halo 3 was a MASSIVELY MASSIVE title. CoD may fit the bill as well, but 95% of the games we pre-sell are no Halo.(and this was how long ago?)
2: I've had multiple games that people have pre-ordered from our store, never come in. Fellow employee put godfather II for ps3 on pre-order? The company didn't get it. Another one put I think wii aerosmith bundle(one of the GH bundles) on pre-order? Yup, never got it. There are others but since I never push presells, or even talk about them, I don't know most customer's stories.
3: Getting games on friday is VERY normal and for awhile, nearly every rental and retail copy was delayed till friday regardless of release date. I couldn't say the same now, because I haven't even seen my store get a retail copy of a game in months.
hmm, interesting

They are pushing Madden 10 real hard, so maybe, just maybe, that one will show up on day of release (or at least Wednesday), but BBV has even failed to get games for me in the past that were actually being pushed as preorders. BBV's inventory process is just fucked up beyond repair, they are not setup to operate like a traditional retail store. They are very careful to manage their inventory deliveries to minimize their delivery costs, and if I recall, they buy all the stock from a middleman, which is why they never get restocks of items, unless they are extremely popular titles.

Thank god for the fact they can at least point you to another store with inventory, but they keep closing stores down in my area (most recently a GR).

Lol maybe. One of the assistant managers at my store atleast mentions it to some people getting games, otherwise we have a little display that lists all games we have upcoming, and I leave it at that. I just don't care. We have crappy prices, crappy deals and crappy extras. Not to mention that in the back of my mind I have to be worried if we even get the title in. They need to take some lessons from stores on cag like gogamer and amazon deals if they actually want to make a business in games.

Bigger titles? I mean we had a midnight release on smash brothers. I think I was one of two people to show up =) And yes, it's random when we would get games in. When I first started in '06, nothing ever EVER came out on time. Then it got better, but not perfect. I guess maybe you would be getting more titles on time if you pre-ordered recently because I haven't seen NEW games in such a long time, I might be thinking of 6 months ago. Big titles like Infamous, ghostbusters, prototype, red faction, fight night 4...don't think we ever received retail for them, and obviously didn't have any pre-orders.

hmm maybe its a ymmv thing

Yes and no. Some games have release dates SET on fridays, even though they actually come out on tuesday, in the computer. Again this is a bit fuzzy as I haven't paid as much attention to newer titles. But if it's in the computer as friday, that's all corporate to hold onto the game even if people are calling because it's already out =P

They got Call of Duty 4 the Friday after release. I'd say only the biggest releases will be same day like Halo and big Nintendo games and maybe Madden. Did they get NCAA on release day? Madden is huge and every BBV has Madden posters all over around here.

Assuming NCAA came out the 14th, yes the computer date was correct and we had our shipments in. I got the boxes ready for the shelves for the morning people to put out =)

Back when they regularly stocked new games, I would routinely pre-order stuff there. Some of the bigger releases (Gears 2 comes to mind), they would get in on actual release day. Some of the big, but not huge, stuff would just show up on Friday. A few times, I'd ask where my pre-order was and they'd tell me it would be there on Friday, but they would already have rental copies out (which I can understand, but is still infuriating).

Considering that they don't even keep new, retail copies of games in stock anymore, I am very weary of putting in any pre-orders there anymore.

Anyone trade in FEAR 2 lately? Curious what it goes for.

Also, anyone see a 360 Wireless Adapter there? I'm getting a 2nd 360 and could possibly burn the rest of my credit on that.
anyone have any good flip ratios from gamestop's buy 2 get 1?
I get that people don't want to read through a 200 page thread, but not even reading the page that you're posting on?

Race Pro?

MLB 2k9?

The TIVs probably dropped tho.

You wouldn't really be making much, but it would move credit over. Buy more Bionic Commandos if you're stopping at multiple Gamestops anyway. I'm almost out of BBV credit because I keep trading in my Bionic Commandos into FYE for money.
fack, so what are the odds i get mw2 on release day?
Meh, decent. Ask them what the computer says as a release date. If it's after the actual release date, you're screwed. If it's the same, you should be ok assuming BBV doesn't fuck up the shipping(they do, rarely, I have gotten blu-rays and games ON the day of release or a few days after)

I could tell you but I just got off and don't work again till saturday =) Just call and ask.

k thanks, ill drop by there saturday

Yeah, in terms of GS -> BBV games, I just picked up a Bionic Commando. I got one yesterday but it ended up going to Hollywood Video since they had promo material up claiming it got $22 there (turns out it was only $16 but after much hassle with the computer they honored the $22). So I picked up another today. That seems easier than ferreting out B2G1 games. I'm down to about $6 at BBV so I just want to have a little more in case a good Amazon flip comes up (like Uncharted before) or for 99 cent movie rentals.

Funny thing happened today. I took several HWV games to Gamestop and also brought one of the GHWT games I got from BBV on the last day of the sale. It was just a backup but since the value of Gears 2 dropped from $16 to $12 I decided to keep it and trade the GHWT instead. Well, turns out one of the BBV stores gave me the 360 version in the Wii case . So, yeah, I ended up getting a few more bucks out of it and even keeping the Wii case (I told the guy the kids probably mixed them up ;)).

I've had BBV give me the wrong games before but never in my favor like that. What's even funnier is that I think this happened while the guy was trying sell me on a Guitar Hero 5 preorder - thus both of us were distracted. I usually check the disc condition but this one rare time I didn't even look at it - though I still didn't notice it was a 360 disc when I checked it for scratches before trading it either.

Same thing happened to me, except I was also charged for the more expensive copy as well. I was purchasing GH Aerosmith for the Wii and the guy put in the 360 version and scanned the sticker on the paper sleeve they keep the games in. Of course, I caught it as I was looking at my reciept on the way out and got a small refund.

TIV at BBV

Wheelman 360 - 15
Bionic Commando 360 - 25
X-Blades - 17
MLB 2k9 - 15

I only traded BC and MLB since the others would get less than I paid and was still able to return them to GS. Only BC held its value so far, and probably for both systems. Wheelman dropped like a rock, I though at least $20 for it.
There's a cash flip to FYE? I'm very intrigued.
Just like gamestop, you'll still get less than credit.

Hey has anyone seen these netbooks that blockbuster is carrying? Engadget just posted a story about this an hour or so ago

Phone quotes from today, for BBV TIV:
:360: Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway -- $6 (~$7 used at GS)
:360: Bionic Commando -- $25 (~$20 new at GS)
Hey has anyone seen these netbooks that blockbuster is carrying? Engadget just posted a story about this an hour or so ago

Yep, discussed a couple of pages back.

mkernan even took a picture: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6067511&postcount=4045
Yeah, like he said, my store has one. I mentioned back when I snapped the photo that it was marked $229 (unless I was hallucinating), but according to the Engadget article to mentioned, they're priced at $299. So, my local store is probably just run by morons. Wait, yeah, I'm almost positive it is.

Here's that Engadget article, btw:

http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/17/blockbuster-selling-archos-10-netbooks-at-retail-stores-were-n/

That Archos netbook doesn't have very good reviews, but if they sit around at BBV long enough, they'll probably drop the price eventually, and I'd be mighty tempted if I could get one for around 200-230 in credit...
Does wheelman for ps3 still get 25 at bbv?
Actually I think Wheelman dropped to $15 a day or two before the 360 version, so neither of those is a good flip. Bionic Commando seems to be the only viable flip other than 1:1 flips to transfer GS credit.

I discovered today that this deal is over :(
I went to get 2x Mercenaries 2 (PS3), which actually had the short PS3 box, not the Blockbuster DVD case, and the manager told me the deal was over.
just get acer aspire one, its the shit
Thats the truth, used BBV credit to get Vanilla Visas and ordered one off amazon back before BBV trade value went down the drain thing is great and my personal fave thing...5 and a half hours of battery life.
just get acer aspire one, its the shit
No doubt, but I can't buy one of those with GS/BBV trade credit. :)

Prince of Persia Limited Ed. - $19 (Had a limited edition box from when it was a flip months ago.)

I really really love this story.:D

Does anyone know what the price of Midnight Club LA for the 360 is going for used & new at BB/Gamerush nowadays?
just get acer aspire one, its the shit
Is this the 3 cell or the 6 cell? thanks

I too got a netbook with Visa Vanillas before the titanic went down. Oddly enough, now I use that to take with me on flipping trips so I can access the information I need to keep flipping. About 6 hours of battery life with fairly intense usage too. It's fantastic.

I picked it up used yesterday for $25. I flipped Bionic Commando for it.

I have about 130 in BB credit, rarely do good deals like the fight night promo and buy 1 get 1 free at BB occur....sad to see nobody with good used flip ratios. BUy 2 get 1 at gamestop I don't see anything of interest

I bit on the Archos 10 since I had $150 in BBV credit.
I'm really liking it a lot so far.
BTW, it was priced at $299.99 at my BBV.

For what it's worth (not much), I traded a :360: Bionic Commando today (Sat) for $25.
I did notice that they are fairly well stocked for a future B1G1 sale though if they have a few more drops.
There are lots of $19.99-$24.99 used games.

They also had what was left of their new game inventory sitting behind the counter ready to be shipped off somewhere. It was a couple copies of Haze, a few Guitar Hero World Tour guitar bundles for the Wii and a couple of other games. Now they will have NO new games whatsoever.

Lmao. fucking Haze. Only damn new ps3 games we've had for months, it looked ridiculous. DM is always riding us about having everything to "map"(the crap from corporate that tells us the layout of things) and it's like what do you want us to do, we can't make a ps3 new game section, WE ONLY HAVE 3 COPIES OF THE SAME GAME! Good times.

Which battery does the Blockbuster Archos 10 come with, the 3 cell or 6 cell?

Tiv's for 7.21

:ps3:
Hawx - $19

:wii:
C. Kabookii - $16
Tenchu - $10

I was thinking BBV credit was close to useless now but I was able to get the Watchmen on Blu-ray for $29.99.

It was last night, but as always it could have dropped. I couldn't believe it's held for that long. I had picked up one before I was banned by FYE so I was stuck with it and thought I was going to have to eat it or take a loss, no such bad luck with BBV around!
