Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
I know there should be a lot of good BBV to GS flips, so I can do that research myself.
Hopefully, but unfortunately there's no good trade-in promos at GS running right now. I'm figuring anything I buy at BBV this time I'll actually keep.

True. Hopefully a decent trade-in promo turns up at GS soon. I don't mind holding on to any games I get at BBV for a little while.

I'm hoping Lego Batman joins the 14.99 and under club with Lego: Indiana Jones, and Lego: Star Wars for the Wii. I missed out on the 9.99 one at GameCrazy, but if i could get both Okami (9.99) and Lego: Batman for 14.99 I would be stoked!

Unfortunately, none of my Blockbusters run these promotions. (There's like 4 blockbusters within 10 miles)

Gah, it just makes me so mad. If they are owned under the company and receive their products from the company, then they should at least run the same damn deals!

fyi lego batman hit the club during the last b1g1 sale
fyi lego batman hit the club during the last b1g1 sale
That is awesome news, thanks! I may have to go scout it out tonight.
Sorry if this has already been done but I didn't see anything in the OP or the last couple of pages: Has anyone made a list of games that are $15 and under?
No, because no one has been going there recently .

Darkrider said he would post a list of recent markdowns, though, so I think we're all looking forward to that (and he did post that he would do that on the last couple of pages ;)).

And also, I thought after reading your comment that I must have deleted the old list but I didn't - IT IS STILL THERE IN THE OP. Look again! That is the list as of the last B1G1 sale, so clearly there are more things that need to be added and some of that stuff may be even cheaper. But it is a good starting point anyway.

Does stock get shifted around alot during these sales?

The reason I ask is, I had to make a run to Hollywood Video last night, and stopped by 2 Blockbusters out of curiosity. I was looking to see if there were any decent PS3 titles to supplement my new slim. Their stock of used titles, much less $14.99 titles was paltry.

I still have 4 other BBVs in the area I could check once the sale goes into effect, but I was curious to how common stock is shifted around.

It is not common for stock to be shifted around, but it is fairly common for them to do rental conversions - ie, they will most likely pull a few rental games off the shelf and convert them to used games for sale. That is usually how we get "restocks" and new items added during the sale.

I may make another trip in that case once the sale has started. I don't usually have very much success around here, but I guess there's no real harm in checking.

I didn't see one skimming through the thread, but is there an end date for this yet?

Picked up today.

$14.99 (4 of these free)
Zelda Phantom Hourglass DS
Pikmin Play Control Wii
Cabela's Trophy Bucks Wii

Sonic Unleashed Wii
Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 Wii

$9.99 (2 of these free)
Onechanbara Bikini Zombie Slayers Wii
GTA IV PS3
Dungeons Dragons Tactics PSP
My Sims Party Wii

As for the person above who asked about stock being shifted. The store closest to me got games from another store but they hadn't had time to put them out yet.

if darkrider doesnt post the recent markdowns i'll be able to post it tomorrow. there were quite a few price drops this week but a lot of them were older stuff that went from $14.99 down to $9.99 and $9.99 to $6.99.

also picked up a cranium bukkake for trade fodder since it still holding strong at $16. i'll check some tiv's tomorrow too but i wouldnt expect much. we need a good coupon this week from gs or a b2g1 sale which i would expect with the holiday weekend.

YMMV on this already beginning?

this sale started today 9/1. darkrider must've misread the communication update. it runs til 9/14. go go go. i just swung by work and picked up the info and some prices that i will be updating shortly. and of course i had to pull all the games aside that i am going to buy.

here are to price drops for the past 2 weeks. these are just based on what we have for inventory at my store so im sure there are more out there.

In Palatine Illinois I have run into two stores that have a 2/$15 video game sale going on right now. I was calling around to see if the B1G1 had started and that is all the details I have.

My haul from the BB in Rossford, OH

PS3
MLB 2k9 - mismarked at 6.99 (schwing!)

DS
Highschool Musical 3 - 6.99

total came to about 83 bucks...

I am going to probably trade in the mlb2k9 and tiger woods 09 to EB unless someone wants to trade for them.

Positive flips to amazon I saw at my store(even before emp. discount).

Patapon 6.99 - 4 tiv
Sonic unleashed - wii - 14.99 - 11.25 tiv
kung fu panda - ps3 - 9.99 - 5.25 tiv
Star wars lightsaber duels - wii - 14.99 - 9.25 tiv
pikmin - wii - 14.99 - 14 tiv(holy fuck that's good)
zelda phantom hour glass - 14.99 - 10 tiv

I didn't bother with kung fu panda, there was NOTHING else at 10$ that would be good to pair with at my store(for flipping or buying).
Thanks - I haven't even stepped foot in a BBV in about 3 weeks so I'm definitely interested in what has dropped. I haven't even thought about trading there recently as I've gone almost exclusively to the Amazon trade-in program. But if there's some decent new B1G1 stuff I'll definitely want to snag me some more BBV credit. I think I might have $20 or so left .
Heh I have you beat. I'd say almost 3 months for me. Man do I miss those days of flipping! I will check out my local one this week to see if any good B1G1 games are up. Hopefully we can get some to trade into Amazon, since that seems like the only good route.
YMMV on this already beginning?
The 2 closest to me were both doing it today. It was automatic also. No barcode scanning.

If theres no amazon promotion and u run out of BBV credit, is it worth it?

Well, two stores were a bust for me. A couple a things with luke-warm interest in, but passed. Looks like neither store had replenished/converted rentals since the last sale. One store had a gigantic bin filled with games (over $14.99 at the time) just a couple of months ago, but it seems as though most of them disappeared. I remember it having a Pikmin (Wii), and was hoping it would still be there, but it wasn't.

You can add End War (PS3), Ben 10: Alien Force (Wii) and Final Fantasy: Echoes of Time to the $14.99 list.

As consolation, I got a free MGS4 guide for a friend.

Oh, man, I so totally want Pikmin for the Wii for myself. I completely forgot about asking them to check inventory at other stores.

All I got at my local store was Dirt for PS3 paired with the Prince of Persia DS game.

FF Echoes of Time for wii is $14.99 too.

I will update the OP and add games to the master list later. I'm supposed to be watching my 1 1/2 year old right now...

Was it Final Fantasy: Echoes of Time for the Wii or for DS? For some reason the DS version had a $16 TIV on amazon early this morning. Now it's down to $5. I locked it in at $16 tho.

might be a stupid question but is it possible to somehow check the stores stock if they got a new release in or still carry a game the employees at mine are so unknowledgeable and just say things like uhhhh i see it in our system but no clue if were getting it in. You dont know if your stocking the game a few days before it comes out? How? If anyone can shed some light on this that would be great.

These are the ones im looking to find out bout:

Mini Ninjas
Cabela's Outdoor Adventures
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2
Beatles Rockband
Cabela's Big Game Hunter 2010
BCFX
Darkest of Days
Wet
Tornado Outbreak
Need for Speed Shift
Bass Pro Shop: The strike

The Wii version, saw it at two stores.
if darkrider doesnt post the recent markdowns i'll be able to post it tomorrow. there were quite a few price drops this week but a lot of them were older stuff that went from $14.99 down to $9.99 and $9.99 to $6.99.

also picked up a cranium bukkake for trade fodder since it still holding strong at $16. i'll check some tiv's tomorrow too but i wouldnt expect much. we need a good coupon this week from gs or a b2g1 sale which i would expect with the holiday weekend.
Yeah. I won't be able to post mine until tomorrow. I didn't get a chance to go to my store today and I don't feel like going there at 10:10 at night just to print paperwork.

Edit - I guess I'm an idiot then :). I did find it quite odd that a sale would start on a Thursday for BBV. Well, you all still got a 12 hour or so warning ;).

Yeah, the Wii version of Echoes of Time is $14.99. And the DS one was $16 this morning at Amazon? Damn... It seems like they bumped all the prices up because there was no promo and now they are back down again - hopefully that means a promo is in the works. There are several things I passed up that weren't great as straight trade-ins to Amazon. But throw a promo in there and I'd take 'em.

I did find out one store has Pikmin in stock. I don't know if I should try to have them hold it for me (thus possibly alerting them to the sale if they haven't started it or moved all the games over to the bin yet which this store is sometimes slow to do). Or if I should just risk it and head over there tomorrow afternoon...

didn't see anyone post this yet,...add Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction PS3 to the list of $14.99 too! saw alot of bikini zombies for both the 360 and wiis and plenty of QofS PS3.

My haul today:
:wii:
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time -$14.99
:ps3:
EndWar - $14.99
Valkyria Chronicles - $14.99 (mistagged)

All for $40

Picked up Dragon Quest on The Wii for 10 bux and paired it with Viva pinta pocket paradise ds game. Also jumped on Lost odyssey and okami for the Wii.

Thanks
I thought so, too.
Gotta hand it to the manager who honored the price.

This sale has me wet in the pants, but I need to find some way to get credit at BB. I have several hundred in credit scattered across Amazon, GS, and Goozex, so there is no way I am going to start paying cash at BB. Especially with a lack of a good coupon, I am not seeing many ideas for flips either.

Sadly I need to skip on the deal this time around. Bills always come first right?! Have fun hunting. Good score on that copy of Valkyria Chronicles 'newlu'.

Hopefully this is going on in Hawaii.. didn't bring any games from back home and need to get something to keep me busy till October. I'll go check tomorrow to see if it's crackin' or not. If so, I'll try to come back with a list. :)

This did start today here. But the pickin's were slim at Makaloa and Kahala. Piikoi was already pitiful before this announcement. Looks like they haven't restocked since getting hammered with the GS FNR4 tradeins.

The lack of a good GS trade-in promo, combined with the overall weak selection at BB (unless there's a mega list coming with stuff like MGS4, Fallout 3, etc on it) make this sale a bit of a dud this time. They should have waited a while until they'd done a ton of rental conversions and the shelves were full again.
