Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

It started yesterday but most stores just put signs out today .

I scored

Bikini sam-squad Xbox360, Wii $15/$10

Mario olympics Zelda PH , $15 each

Still a ton of stuff at some So Cal stores .

Went to my local blockbuster, Paired up a few $14.99 and $6.99 games. I went to check out and told them to make sure I got the correct discount. They said no, they are not allowed to do that. They will let the system automatically deduct the lowest price. I was like,ok? Then i will buy them in two seperate transactions. They said, no, you cannot do that. Either buy them all at one time or just buy part of them then walk in tomorrow to buy the rest!!! The manager didnot even want to listen to me when I told them that I just want to buy them seperately!! She accused me of manipulating the price. She said:"we are a retail business and will not allow guys like you to manipulate our price system???" I was so shocked by her ignorance and stupidity. How can this happen in a retail store? No wonder Blockbuster is going nowhere. Called the district manager and left a message. We will see! Sorrry for all the rants.

:applause: wow go blockbuster hahaha! yeah that makes absolutely no sense why you can't just buy your $14.99 games and then your $6.99 games. did you end up buying anything?
@ The person who was asking if we can check if we're getting stuff in.

We can check to see if there are movies/games coming in in the computer. There's a column called "on order" and if there is a number in that column, then we are getting the game. It's kind of weird too. If the column says there are 10 on order, we'll only get 5 in. Don't know why it does that. It's also good to note that the column usually says 0 on order weeks ahead of time so if a game is coming out in 2 months, we won't know.
so that means the people at my store are just too lazy to look then cause a game like mini ninjas or cabelas which come out the 8th if its on order it should tell the employee that by now correct?

It doesnt matter what stores say, if its a corporate store it will ring up automatically.

Stopped by a store earlier and picked up:
Final Fantasy Echos in Time Wii 14.99
New Play Pikmin Wii 14.99 (free)

Neither of them were marked correctly, and there was no signage of a B1G1.
Also there are a bunch of quality games at 19.99 hope they drop soooooooon :)

Wow I nabbed folklore at our sister store in town, 9.99. He had trouble finding the disc but said it was a trade-in from a few days ago, so that means someone got like 3$ or 4$ for folklore....that's nuts. Too bad I already got a copy off goozex like 2 months ago.

Sonofabitch!! Leave it up to fuckin' Blockbuster to start a sale when I stop checking this thread for updates. I just opened one of my sealed copies of GTAIV for the PS3 from one of the Special Editions, since I figured the next BOGO was at least 2-3 months off.

Shit.

Oh well, least I can rebuy a few games I let go to GS for more than I paid for much less than I got from GS from this BOGO.

Just got back from 2 stores and it was slim pickings already. Neither store had copies of GTAIV(I was hoping to pick it up for this deal). It was mostly old sports and Guitar Hero games.

Did manage to leave one with Bullet Witch & Dark Sector for $6.99(I didn't see Bullet Witch on that $6.99 or less list).

No, that person is just a moron. Please don't take a shit on my store because of a stupid person =/(especially with so many other good reasons to dump on bbv) Not only would you have gotten that deal from anyone at my store, you wouldn't have actually had to ask me and I'd be telling you the cheapest way I was doing it.

Sorry, I did not intend to offend anybody working in blockbuster. There are lots of BB employees who contributed a lot to this thread. I really appreciate their work! What I meant is that there ARE quite a few bad apples out there.

You don't need a GameRush. Just go to a Blockbuster. Do you think people actually trade this stuff in? Most of it is ex-rentals.

Have you been into a BB recently? They are ghost towns. No one rents movies there, let alone games. At least the ones around me.
They are pennied, 1 cent each.
I did not know that they penny out their guides. I need to go again. I did pick up these games.

Onechanbara xbox 360
Onechanbar wii
bad company 360

Yeah, except for one game I bought from there, the discs are usually in good shape. I don't know if that rule where they require a cc/debit card on file to rent 360 games is still in effect, if so, that's probably why. I did see quite a few games either missing their manuals or were disc only though.
I went to 2 BBVs in the Houston area today and neither of them were doing this deal that they knew of.
Check back there tomorrow. Apparently some are not starting it until tomorrow.

No, I don't need to spend money to rent movies/games there... I can go to my local library that gets many new release Blu-rays and PS3 games for free.

I'm only looking to buy PS3 games if they are truly worth the price imo that aren't stocked at my library.

I don't rent games or movies either, just go for these sales. And let me get this straight, your library has PS3 games, sounds like the best library ever.

Yeah, I'm only interested in going to a blockbuster for the first time since maybe... 3 years just for this kind of sale. My question though is whether or not these games on the list are in somewhat good shape to good shape+. They must have been used many times because they were rents, so Idk if I'd be satisfied with that and rather just look somewhere else... even if I have to pay more.

Anyways, to my library having ps3 games... I have these games on hold to pick up soon:

Call Of Juarez 2: Bound In Blood
NHL 2K10
Madden NFL 10
G.I. Joe. The rise of Cobra
Dirt 2
Batman: Arkham Asylum
LittleBigPlanet
Lord of the Rings Conquest
Uncharted

and blu-ray dvd Coraline.

Sweet, ya?

I want GTA IV sooooo badly. But im only 16 :(. I get my games from other stores/take my uncle with me when i buy games.(he doesnt buy it, i do)

So does BBV ask for ID when they sell Rated M stuff?

Picked up:
Guitar Hero Decades (ds) : $9.99
Valkrie Profile 2 (ps2): $6.99
Boom Blox (wii): $14.99
FF Echoes of Time (wii): $14.99

Saw a mint condition of Warioware Smooth Moves for $20, picked that up as well.

I know this thread is for videogames, but I would check their dvd's with their 3-20 sale. I picked up seasons 1 & 2 of My Name is Earl along with Benjamin Button for $20. Also saw Ratchet & Clank (PS3) for $14.99 as well.

If someone is nice enough to figure out what drops happen next tues and post them, it would be greatly appreciated! (I know there is a nice amount of good games that are $19.99 now)

Actually, many Blockbuster stores even keep the actual cases and instruction manuals off to the side in a drawer, so you can get a game complete(if you ask for them)when you're buying them used.

Aside from two of the games I bought tonight(Mercenaries 2 was missing the manual, Armored Core 4 looked like someone's fingerprints got burned into the disc), everything I've bought from them in recent months has been flawless and complete.

PS3 games are pretty hard to scratch up to begin with. Most times you'll just be wiping the disc off to remove some smudges/fingerprints, which you can do with any soft cloth(I use my t-shirt I'm wearing usually lol)and it shouldn't harm the disc in any way.

I got the following for $21.18 total:

:ps3: Armored Core 4(complete)
:ps3: Incredible Hulk(complete)
:ps3: Mercenaries 2(missing the manual)
:ps3: Monster Madness(complete)

They even gave me a couple spare clear PS3 cases when I asked at the second Blockbuster I stopped at tonight.

Now I just have to see how AC4 plays and see if I can grab a manual for Mercenaries 2 from another Blockbuster(or if all else fails Gamestop :D).

YMMV, it depends on if the employee working is too lazy to check. But they should card for M rated games.
