Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
Sometimes you just need to pair different priced games if you want to pick them both up, I remember doing it quite a few times in past sales where pickings were slim
I had both games in my hand and was ready to go, but just as I was walking up to the register I remembered potential price drops. I'll go back today and pick up both games.
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn is not $14.99, so don't feel too bad about it.
This is what I was thinking as well. Who said it was $14.99? I don't remember seeing that price in the thread when I made my last update.

Went to the last stores that's within 10 miles of me. They didn't have much that qualified for the deal.

Did manage to get all these for 360 for about $23 w/ tax:

Bioshock
Frontlines: Fuel of War
Kung Fu Panda
Mercenaries 2
Could someone look for these games for me:

Mass Effect
Force Unleashed
Mass Effect was tagged $19.99, Force Unleashed(I assume 360?) was $24.99.
Gonna stop at my 2 local blockbusters again when I leave this bbq. I'm assuming their not closing early today.
Didn't see anything on the door indicating they were closing early, so it seems to be normal hours.
Mass Effect is definitely $14.99 - has been that way since the last B1G1. Force Unleashed is only $14.99 for the Wii. I think it is $19.99 for the other systems (at least PS3). It had a good chance of dropping before the sale ends - especially since I just picked it up at Gamecrazy for $11.69 .

Just got done my blockbuster trip.
Store 1:
Nba Ballers Chosen One
Wall-E
Total: 9.99

Store 2:
Dark Sector
Universe At War Earth Assault
Total: 6.99

4 games for under $17, ill take it. Never played any of em tho, heard dark sector was good.

I just picked up Valkyria Chronicles and Resistance 2 for $25ea at a BBV in Canton, Ohio. All 3 stores in town have already been picked clean of all the good b1g1 games. All that remains are a few old sports games.

Oh, and just to confirm they have normal hours today, I asked the clerk.
I'm hoping Cranium Bukkake kept its trade in value. It's been stuck at $16 seemingly forever so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
I wish ALL their trade values held, since they were getting better than Gamestop for trades, even without running any promo deals to add some extra credit to them.

But since I don't think they or Hollywood Video take hardware as of yet, it means that GS still has the advantage for right now.

Last fall was like my 'perfect storm', between the HWV $4 last gen sale, the GS tiered promo and the good TIV's at BBV at that point. Shame that due to corporate slashing all TIV's, Blockbuster is no longer considered a good place for trades for me.
Are they guaranteed to be complete as in original box, box art, and instructional booklet?
Possibly complete? Yes
Guaranteed complete? Not a chance.

No. Not at the ones near me, at least.

I am very picky, and I also have extrra 360/Xbox cases for if I get a game without a green case, or a FUBAR case.
No. Not at the ones near me, at least.

At the blockbuster near my house, I saw a Xbox360 Quantum of Solace with a Wii case and a Smackdown vs Raw 2009 manual haha
I stopped by a store that has always been kind of lame with the sales and trade-ins in the past and was surprised to see it was having a store closing sale. They had their games a whopping 15% off and had about 3 titles - SF IV and a few others. I saw nothing under $14.99 but if it is anything like the last store I went to that closed during a B1G1 sale I probably didn't miss much. The prices were actually worse because instead of running the B1G1 they just had 20% off. That was pretty damn stupid.

Anyway, it is sort of bad to see all these stores closing but they definitely picked the two worst ones out of the whole area to shut down so at least they did it in a smart way.

So I was lamenting the fact that Star Wars Force Unleashed for PS3 is still $19.99 and thus not eligible for the sale but in the end it worked out for me. I picked up Onechanbara and GH Decades last night (painfully, using cash since I'm out of BBV credit and can't figure a way out to get more). Today I traded them to Gamecrazy for $30.80 total after their $5 bonus promo (you get $5 extra when trading $15 worth - you need to ask about it though as none of the 3 GC stores I went to over the weekend had any idea until I mentioned it - some promo ). I then picked up a complete near mint SW: FU for PS3 for $11.69 after MVP discount. So I converted $10 worth of stuff from BBV into the game I wanted + $19 left over. Nice. I'm kicking myself for passing Onechanbaras at another couple of BBV stores because I was out of credit but I'm definitely glad I shelled out the cash for this one set anyway.

The extra $5 at GC ends after Labor Day so get those trades in tomorrow if you want - though even without it, it isn't a bad deal. Some other decent credit transfers include Monsters vs Aliens DS, LocoRoco 2, and FF CC Echoes of Time Wii. Since none of these games, with the exception of Locoroco 2, are real desireable keepers I say trade them to GC where you can get something you really want.
What is the trade-in value for Onechanbara at GC? also are you referring to Wii or other platform. I remember seeing that at my local store, any other you can suggest to pair up with it?

I snagged a Fallout 3 for $20 during Blockbuster's labor day sale today.

Disc looks brand new, but it was a 360 game in a black case for some reason. Shoved to the back of a row of games, I'm sure it was only still there because it looked like it was in a PS2 case.:D
This is what I was thinking as well. Who said it was $14.99? I don't remember seeing that price in the thread when I made my last update.
I think the original buyer was talking out FE: Shadow Dragon for the ds, since I have never seen Radiant Dawn for sale in any condition at BBV, or maybe I'm just unlucky.....
What is the trade-in value for Onechanbara at GC? also are you referring to Wii or other platform. I remember seeing that at my local store, any other you can suggest to pair up with it?
You can use the iPhone app or read the GC trade-in thread to find out more. But I got $15 for it after MVP (Wii version). A nice pairing is Guitar Hero Decades which gets $11.88 (also after MVP). These prices were as of Sunday though and things could change at any time of course.
I think the original buyer was talking out FE: Shadow Dragon for the ds, since I have never seen Radiant Dawn for sale in any condition at BBV, or maybe I'm just unlucky.....
Ah, could be. I've never seen either for sale ever at any BBV so it's all the same to me. Like Mario & Sonic and Boom Blox, the FE DS game is non-existant in my experience. There were never any of these before the sale either.
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn is not $14.99, so don't feel too bad about it.
I assumed he was talking about FE:SD :ds:.
I think the original buyer was talking out FE: Shadow Dragon for the ds, since I have never seen Radiant Dawn for sale in any condition at BBV, or maybe I'm just unlucky.....
I've never seen FE:RD at any BBV either but I do remember it being a good flip when CC had it on clearance. They had it for $11.xx (after 30% extra on clearance) and it traded into BBV for $30 so I think someone out there should've seen a "used' copy of this game in stock. Who knows?

I checked another BBV today but it was pretty much cleaned out. I still have a few left to check to add games to my personal collection.

BTW, all the BBVs that I've checked recently have done a good job of pulling penny guides. :whistle2:|

i went to three blockbuster thursday. i picked a few titles.
spiderman friend or foe 6.99
facebreaker 9.99
smackdown vs raw 2008 : 9.99
beautiful kaktmari: 6.99
the club 9.99
the incredible hulk: 9.99
condemned 2 : 6.99
prey: 4.99

almost all came with booklet and original cases.
thanks for the heads up ! i would never have gone to vlockbuster if it wasn't for this thread.

I had to take back one of the games I got yesterday(Mercs 2). I don't know if I got an employee that had no clue on how to do returns or what. I was told that since they had no more copies, I'd either had to exchanged for a game of the same price(a $14.99 game) or be given store credit. Tried to see if I could get another copy from a different store, but was told that it's against company policy.

Since it was a store that was out of the way for me, picked up the only $14.99 game they had left(Quantum of Solace on 360). Not a game I'd really want, but I guess that I can always trade it away.
Mass Effect is definitely $14.99 - has been that way since the last B1G1. Force Unleashed is only $14.99 for the Wii. I think it is $19.99 for the other systems (at least PS3). It could just be the store I went to not updating the tags. They had 3 copies of Ninja Gaiden 2 with 3 different price tags($14.99, $19.99 & $29.99).

Picked up Pikmin on the Wii today for $14.99, and I couldn't find anything I wanted to get for free. I ended up going with Alien Syndrome because it was complete, but I think I'm going to take it back and get the Boom Blox without instructions.

Was interested in:

Elebits 6.99 (No Manual)
Boom Blox 14.99 (No Manual)

Super Mario Galaxy 19.99
Mario Power Tennis Wii 19.99

Is it possible to buy a $20 game and get a $14.99 game free?

If so, I'll go back with my Pikmin and Alien Syndrome, return the one, and buy Super Mario Galaxy with Pikmin, and maybe Mario Power Tennis with Boom Blox.
Cranium held today at $16 TIV
That's great news! Now I'll just need some luck finding some cheap copies of the game.
Are you serious?
Well, it's not an unreasonable question though it has been asked before. I'm pretty sure others have tried and it does not work. However, it might be possible to convince a manager to do an override for you.

After all, it is in their best interest to sell those $20+ games at the price they are currently at instead of having people wait for them to drop to $14.99 and under. Any smart manager should be willing to do this for you if at all possible. (Never occured to me to even try that but I say go for it ;) ).

Then again, it also might be in their best interest to force you to get some other crappy sub-$14.99 game to pair up with the one you want. It all depends I guess.

Traded in Cranium ($16) and Race Pro ($15) today, but I'm holding on to my credit because BBV credit is hard to come by these days. Can't afford to do any flipping without any good trade-in promos at GS or Amazon. I was disappointed to find out that one of my BBVs no longer accepts trade-ins, and it's pretty much a given that every store I used to go to has had their used game section drastically reduced. Still, I'll hold on to the credit I have and hope I can put it to good use during the next b1g1 sale.

I asked this a while back, but does anyone know if BBV accepts Cranium Kabookii without the decoder glasses? I traded in a new copy today but saw a used copy at another BBV that didn't have decoder glasses. If I can still trade it in without the glasses, then I'll pick it up tomorrow...

I think all you need is the cover arts and a decent disc. No decoder glasses required when I traded in mine. I too am holding on to credit. Unless I find a Boom Blox which I have yet to see one. Is there a way an BB employee can search and see what stores have this game?
Are you serious?
Are you serious? Like io said, it would make sense to allow it.

As opposed to me spending 14.99 and getting one game free, I'd be going back and spending $40, and getting 2 games free.

I'll give it a shot when I go back to return the Alien game; manager seemed like a dick though so I'm not holding my breath

The one I saw looked like it was a rental. It had cover art, but it was clear that it wasn't the original cover. I think I'll grab it anyway and hope I can trade it in at another BBV. Hopefully, I can find another decent $6.99 game to pair it with...
damn my blockbusters

I just wanted a copy of Lair!
If you can wait a week or so, I'll try and blow through my copy of it that I picked up(complete no less) and we can do some sort of trade for it. I'll check your TL and let you know what I might be interested in.

EDIT: Crap. I don't see anything I'd really want on the TL on CAG.

As for me, I may still check out one or two more Blockbusters since this sale is supposed to go till the 14th or so.

I found a minor Target flip.

I picked up a couple of Wheelman for the 360 for $9.98 and found out today they trade for $15. I traded one and got Onechanbara and Singstar Abba from my local store for $9.99. I'm pretty sure I traded that Singstar Abba in a few months ago ;). Also got $5.01 left over on a gift card so I actually have spare BBV credit for the first time in a long while.

:psp:
God of War: Chains of Olympus - $9.99
Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters - $9.99
Me and My Katamari - $4.99 (Not in the OP)

:ps2:
Rogue Galaxy - $4.99

:ds:
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time - $14.99 (mistagged)
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass - $14.99
You can use the iPhone app or read the GC trade-in thread to find out more. But I got $15 for it after MVP (Wii version). A nice pairing is Guitar Hero Decades which gets $11.88 (also after MVP). These prices were as of Sunday though and things could change at any time of course.

Ah, could be. I've never seen either for sale ever at any BBV so it's all the same to me. Like Mario & Sonic and Boom Blox, the FE DS game is non-existant in my experience. There were never any of these before the sale either.
Thanks for the response. I will look up what this IPhone App is, but i don't have an iPhone :S

Damn, my local bbv is going out of buisness, up to 70% off everything. Would be awesome if it stacked. I can dream! I'm guessing the selection is going to leave a lot to be desired either way, it looked to have already been picked clean, but it was closed when I checked it out. Ill probably check back tomorrow night.

Last night, I snagged:
Bond: Quantum of Solace PS3 (complete, but with display case w/no UPC) $14.99
the second Advance Wars for DS (complete) $9.99 = free

Kind of sad, though. The place I went used to be arguably the best GameRush in the area. Now they had 40 used games, tops.

I will be interested to see if my store gets my copy of Beetles Rockband in stock tomorrow.

just call them now and find out. our 3 preorders for customers came in today so its a good bet that most of the stores got theirs but i would call them now just to be sure.

TIV - Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 - PS3 - $10

On a separate note, does anyone know any good ways to shift credit from Gamecrazy to Blockbuster?

70% beats a B1G1 you know ;) The most you can get from it is 50% off. However, if its up to, games will probably start out lower and work their way up, most items being gone after 30-40%

Well, then it won't do you much good. But that's why I said to check out the GC trade-in deal thread. You can ask there and someone (like me) can look up a game price. I just got $16.70 (base of $11.70 + $5 bonus) + $15 (MVP price) for the Singstar Abba and Onechanbara I picked up earlier today.

No, but keep me updated if you find any! There's got to be something - first thing I'd check are the used deals for the week. Check that same GC deal thread I suggested above. I forget what they are right now.

Yeah, the store I was at the other day that was closing had signs saying "up to 50% off" but the games were all of 15% off - and they had about 4 of them .

io here are the games i picked up as you recommended:
Wii Onechanbara (14 without MVP i guess?)
Wii Guitar Hero Wolrd Tour - ??

Other games i saw were, (could you plz tell me the TIV from your iphone app plz):

Wii Sonic Unleashed -- ??
Wii High School Musical 3 (disney) -- ??
Wii Bully -- ??

and

XBOX 360 Onechanbara

I want to buy couple of games from GC - Top Spin 3 and GT 5 prologue.

So I saw the 80gb console bundle, with Transformers: The Game, Click Blu-ray, PS3 remote, HMDI cable, and a 12-week rental card, for $369.99 (previously $499.99). Is this the older 80gb with partial BC or is it the newer one? And can you tell by the box? Would be nice to get a brand new PS3 with BC.

There is this guy who said 11 months ago, he got an 80gb from BBVideo in February (which would be February 2008) and his does sound like it has BC.

He posted: "I do already have an 80GB PS3 actually... I got mine as a bundle pack sold by Blockbuster back in February.
I've had no problem with CDs or DVDs thus far, but a couple of my PS2 games did play weird... like the screen would jump or skip... but it's not a big deal to me"
