Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Has anyone posted a flip list from BBV->GS ? Sorry I haven't read the past 30 or so pages. If anyone can post or re-post one for me, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I had no idea kingdom hearts for the DS was worth so much still or I would have bought a bunch today. Now I'm wondering if there's anything else I'm missing out on.
Do they stock up for this sale? Anyone notice there BBV inventory before and after the sale started.
They did do a bunch of rental to POG conversions for the sale, mainly PS2 and PSP.

I was debating whether or not to go to another blockbuster in antioch illinois . At first I decided not to go because I figured all the good games would be gone, but then I changed my mind. I'm soooo glad I did go.

Picked up these (all 360 pogs):
Saints row 2
gears of war 2
call of duty Waw
Lego Indiana Jones.
Total spent= just under $15.

To recap all of my purchases:
Brutal Legend
Battlefield Bad Company
Ghostbusters the Videogame
Ninja Gaiden 2
Saints Row 2
Gears of War 2
Call of Duty Waw
Lego Indiana Jones

Total spent=$35. That blows my mind

This is one of the best sales I have seen in quite a awhile. I give my thanks to OP , cheapassgamer and blockbuster!

I do work at Blockbuster as a manager so I could really help on this thread.

Yeah it sucks that our trade-in values went down, but then again it's that damn economy thing too.

So B1G1 14.99 and under is on again. I'd strongly recommend that if there is a game that is 14.99 make sure there isn't same game in a clear case for 6.99. Blockbuster does this because they want you to pay more just for cover art. There is a site you can go to www.vgboxart.com and it lets you print off copies of cover art for your game in full color.

Friday I am buying 12 games for only $20 bucks which includes Fable 2 and Fallout 3 as well.

I really hate all of you people with pogs at your BBV's :bomb:.
You get really good games or newer ones with with high TIV's, while
I am forced to scrounge for dollar per dollar flips on 9.99 NDS titles for amazon credit with my ever dwindling BBV credit.
Are the game that you guys are buying all coming w/ manuals. I noticed that I didn't get manuals for a set of games i got from one of the blockbusters. Do you think I should return those two games? Do you need manuals to sell them to gamestop and amazon?
Just go back to your blockbuster and tell them that you'd like a manual for your game. At my store we have a binder of manuals that we save just in case and I am sure your store does as well or you could just see if they will let you have one of the rental cases manuals for same game too.

So some $19.99 games will drop down to $14.99 and below this coming Friday?

Sounds good!

How? At what Price?

At my BBV we have Fable 2 and Fallout 3 as POG games or as we call them "Games for 6.99 in the clear case". They do not come in their original box art but since I can just print those off I don't really care. Oh and just so you guys all know those games in the clear case are NOT pre played games as all the games are perfect disks. They are just marked down so low because they do not come in their original boxing.

So yes I'm getting Fable 2 and Fallout 3 (6.99 a piece) with my discount and B1G1 free sale I'm getting both for only $5.56

I=Win!

has anyone seen any advertising for this sale? i could have sworn mine had some fliers, but when i went back i couldnt find any. if any of you see one, scan it and post it so i can take one to the others around me that dont seem to know about the sale and are too douchey to check. thanks

found a Blockbuster tonight that had a small table set up with a lot of older games, but did notice that they had quite a few copies of COD4(PS3) marked at $14.99, and i noticed that wasn't listed in the list on the front page.

Do you guys think i should go in every day and see if they got any new games? Is there a chance their stock can be updated daily? Sorry with the questions, just wanna get in on this deal more lol.

Thanks. Maybe I'll stop by afterall.
I thought Dirt 2 for the wii was the only version of Dirt 2 that was 14.99 or less.
nope. One BBV i went to today had Dirt 2 with 14.99 marked for 360.
They supposedly restock on games on Sundays like the others have said. I can confirm that also when I asked the manager today.
Thanks man.

So a price for a game varies throughout stores?
because, my BBV had Killzone2 and Red Faction (both PS3) for $19.99 each
and I'm reading some CAGers got the two games with B1G1 promotion.

That's what I did tonight. When I went to my the BBV near my house yesterday, they didn't even have a sign up indicating the sale and their game section was pretty bare. I just ended up getting Red Faction: Guerrilla
iconps3.gif
($14.99) and Chaotic: Shadow Warriors
iconps3.gif
(14.99).

Tonight, since it was such a nice night out, I decided to talk a stroll after dinner and visit BBV. Imagine my surprise when their previously barren 1 rack used game section turned into 4 full racks and an endcap! Ended up getting:

I'm going to stop by all the BBVs everyday this sale is going on...just to take a look.
So a price for a game varies throughout stores?
because, my BBV had Killzone2 and Red Faction (both PS3) for $19.99 each
and I'm reading some CAGers got the two games with B1G1 promotion.
The prices should be the same at all BBV, its just some are extremely lazy in changing the price tags. Take them up to the counter for scanning and the actual price will show.

Ugh...the store i went to had KZ2 for 19.99. Shoulda scanned it up. That store is across town, and i dont feel like going that far tomorrow.

Anyway, thanks for the info.

I went back to blockbuster to ask about the manuals and the clerk just walked to the rental section and grabbed them out of that stock. he hooked me up.
I hit the Brookhurst / Edinger store yesterday. Didn't look like they had very much. If they restocked today, maybe I should go back!
I went yesterday too, they had a big stack of games behind the counter. Asked them if they're for the sale and they said yeah, but they need to organize it and it'll be ready today. Didn't have the chance to go today though, thinking about hitting it up tomorrow.
anyone know what price street fighter IV is for the ps3???
Seen the xbox 360 version for 19.99 so my guess would be the same.

Went to two Blockbuster store around my area and got Folklore for 9.99, Kingdom Hearts 365 14.99, Mario Super Slugger & Mario and Sonic Olympics 9.99 each.

Street fighter IV for 360 was marked $14.99 at one of my stores. I guess this is why we need to make a definitive list.

yeah, I saw it for 360 for that price. I wish I had a 360 now, all the ps3 game versions are all insane prices while the 360 versions are next to nothing :(

so I just checked the tiv at amazon for kingdom hearts ds and professor layton...

$19 and $16 :)

payed $7.50 each for kingdom hearts.
payed $3.50 for professor layton.

$54 amazon giftcard? I'll take it.
They supposedly restock on games on Sundays like the others have said. I can confirm that also when I asked the manager today.
This may be nitpicky, but is there a standard time for stores to do so? Perhaps employees can share their thoughts?
I'm torn between going Monday after work, when they may be cleaned up, or mid-day Sunday, although they may not have restocked yet.
I feel like a doofus for only looking at the Xbox/PS3/Wii selection, and totally ignoring the DS/PS2 section.
Thanks in advance.

Yesterday and the day before there were stores in the process of converting rentals into sales in order to stock up for the B1G1 sale. One manager said that they had been told to convert a ton of games for it.

360 Tomb Raider Underworld rang up 6.99
360 Godfather 2 was stickered 9.99
DS New Super Mario Bros was stickered 9.99

My wife had an ailment yesterday, so I haven't been able to update much, but I've still managed to hit around 10 BBV's so far for this sale. Found some pretty good stuff. I can't think of anything off the top of my head that I grabbed that hasn't been mentioned.

I found a BBV with a tasty selection today, and they had no idea about the sale. I took some games to try to build a little credit, with little success. Here are the values they quoted me:

PS3:
Ultimate Alliance 2 - $8
Bioshock 2 - $22
Rogue Warrior - $10

360:
Halo Wars - $12

I f'ed up and got the wrong Rogue Warrior! I ran to a GS real quick with a copy of Mario Sonic, but they were out of the 360 Rogue Warrior. Needless to say, I didn't trade that one; it's going to the local shop! Also passed on $8 for MUA2. It's value has plummeted though, but I'll just hang on to it.

The Halo Wars I grabbed from GS to move a little credit, and the Bioshock 2 I actually traded in as well, since I got it at a store down the street for $20...:)

We definitely need to discover some title that has at least a mediocre TIV at BBV. I know there's got to be some clearance title, or something in my collection, or something from GS that will transfer decently.

Didn't one of the Singstar bundles use to get like $30 something? I have a bunch of those lying around from K-Mart clearance I would love to get rid of...

Also, forgot to add some of the stuff I found that I haven't noticed mentioned:

PSP:
Marvel Ult. Alliiance 2 - $14.99
Soul Caliber Broken Destiny -$14.99

PS2:
Shadow of the Colossus (black label :)) - $6.99

Also found 2x Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky, one marked $6.99, and one marked $19.99. He check the computer, and they were actually $19.99, so he wouldn't sell.
I really hate all of you people with pogs at your BBV's :bomb:.
You get really good games or newer ones with with high TIV's, while
I am forced to scrounge for dollar per dollar flips on 9.99 NDS titles for amazon credit with my ever dwindling BBV credit.
Hey, I ran out of my measily credit at the first store yesterday. I spent more cash there later that day than I ever have at BBV in my whole life up to that point ;).
Lucky...My 2 BBVs werent that great. Did manage to find Dirt 2 360 to flip for the 25 GS deal thing.
Must have been a pre-pack or a price tag mistake because I'm pretty sure it is $29.99 for 360 (only Wii version is $14.99).

I stopped by my local store late Weds. I had skipped it because it didn't look like they had much last week. I probably should have gone there yesterday as they still had some good stuff today. Oh well... The one thing I am not seeing much is KH DS. Was that a comment rental conversion everywhere else?

I'm sorry...I'm really really tired. Bioshock 2 got $22 in credit. Sorry for the confusion. I'll edit my post.

I've seen a decent amount of Kingdom Heart's where I've been; at least the ones I didn't buy at $14.99 straight up back when GS was giving like $30 for them during the 50% bonus coupon (TIV was $20 at the time)
