Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I can also confirm these prepacks are a bit shoddier when it comes to disc quality than the last batch. Unfortunately my 20 gb hd is full so I can't burn the games to test them; any other options for me short of playing them through? And as a simple observation with no bad intentions, how can a sales clerk link a line on a receipt "prepack w/o cover art" with any specific game?

Yikes, I popped in UFC Undisputed 2009 last night and found that freezes on the beginning developer/credit screen.

Anyone else have this problem? Does it have to do with the fact that LIVE now has the game on demand and it's screwing up patches or something? It just seems odd because there are no blemishes on the disc itself.

The one BBV i went to in Lincoln, Neb had Gears of War 2 makred at 29.99$ and the guy had apparently priced all the games the day before.

That is odd. I borrowed my friend's copy and it seemed fine. I'll give it a go today since I haven't played it in like a week or so.
So I figured I would try and check a different BBV thats a little further away than the other 3 stores I went to yesterday, I really wanted to find a copy of Mario & Sonic at the olympic games. Well I did find a copy of it at that store along with a copy of no more heros. Anyways when the lady was getting my games, I see she has a copy of M&S at the winter games and a copy of NMH2. I wasnt going to say anything and was just going to let her give me those copies when at the last second she says, wait a second and opens up the cases and see's she had made a big mistake, then goes and gets the right games for me. Damn I was so close! Oh well still got two good games for $10.
hmm maybe karma from posting confirmation over on slickdeals....

If you can find it as a POG then it should be bout $6.99 or so. Otherwise one with cover will be $29.99
Oh my god, I posted at SD....now I am definitely going to burn in hell ;)
burn? nah but if you don't see that it did no good and helped the non gamers (have you read the thread? 6 copies of this, 10 copies of that - yep 10 of the same title and proud to have wiped out the area) ... it's your prerogative

It would just take one SDer to wipe out Springs ... hopefully that won't happen ...

Found Destroy all Humans 360 POG (don't remember this one being reported)

I gave a big ol stinky thumbs down to the SD thread(and was hoping others from here who are registered there would've too:roll:)but I see some of the same names from here on there too.

How dare you post on SD, you evil traitors. LMFAO I'm kidding, but all I ever do on SD is steal shit from there for here.;)

You're kinda blowing it out of proportion, but whatever

Wanted to have Dewy's Adventure Wii for $6.99 added to the list. Visited a couple Blockbusters today, but didn't really see anything I really wanted.

They restocked at the Wall, NJ store.

PS3
Brother in Arms: Hell's Highway (complete) 9.99
Bionic Commando (complete) 9.99

Wii
Okami (complete) 9.99

360
Legends of Wrestlemania - black case, no manual (14.99)

for 26.47

Can anyone confirm the price on Mario & Sonic @ the Winter Olympics? Every store I visited yesterday had it priced at $29.99, but I've seen some people mention it as a purchase. I will stop by a BBV after work today, but if someone can verify before then, I'd appreciate it.

Bah, nevermind! I think I finally figured it out. The DS version is likely $14.99, while the Wii version is $29.99.

MARIO AND SONIC WINTER OLYMPICS IS $29.99. I've been to 10 stores in the last few days, and this is the correct price for the game. A lot of the stores did have some confusion when pricing them, apparently, I think the little barcode stickers are almost the same, so some people have found Winter for $9.99 or Summer for $29.99. If they bought winter at that price, then it would have definitely required a manual override.

Try checking the disk for finger prints or smudges. If so clean them off and it should solve your problem. It happens to movies from BBV and finger prints are normally the problem.

Bullshit, I searched the thread, but couldn't find a definitive answer. The first post lists "Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games" under two different DS brackets (9.99 and 14.99), which is what caused the confusion.

Thanks for checking, and I'll look at the disc again, but it looked clean. I'd hate to take it back, since there's no way they have another copy.

If you're looking for big signs saying 'b1g1' on them, dz00mb1e, you're going to be waiting a very long time. Just go into the stores, find a couple games you want to buy for $10 or $15 or whatever and have them ring them up.

If once they hit total the amount goes down to half of what the price should be for the two games, then the store is doing the sale.
Anyone know if Gears of War 2 and Fallout 3 are only eligible for the B1G1 promo if they are POGs? I've seen both at my local BBV, but they're labeled as $19.99. Of course, they labeled Star Wars: The Clone Wars Republic Heroes at $29.99, when it actually rang up as $9.99, so those prices may not be accurate.
I'm pretty sure regular (ie, non-prepack) Gears 2 and Fallout 3 are $29.99 and $19.99 - definitely don't qualify for the sale.
My store says B1G1 Free on all games EXCLUDING XBOX 360, PS3 and Wii.
d'oh!
For anybody new to BBV or their B1G1 sales:

If a store is a corporate store (e.g. - not a franchise location), then the B1G1 free on used games $14.99 and under sale is running and is automatic in the register systems, regardless of whether or not the employees are aware of it (there is a decent chance they're not aware). Furthermore, it is valid on games of all platforms, regardless of whether or not the employees are aware of it. Additionally, prices are universal (at corporate, non-closing stores) and many locations I've been to have had out of date price tags, so never trust the tag if you have heard about a lower price here in the thread.

The discount is applied after two games have been rung up and the total key has been pressed. If the cashier doesn't total it until the end, then it will only promo off the cheapest games. For example, if you bought two $14.99 games and two $9.99 games and they didn't press total until the end, it would only promo off the two $9.99 games, which is obviously not what you want to happen. So, either ask/instruct the cashier on what to do, make separate transactions or trips to the counter or store, or just take your chances and hope the cashier knows what they're doing (good chance they don't though).

If it is a franchise store or a store that is closing down, then all bets are off.
But just to reiterate this excellent post, here you go. Just go back to that store and try to buy two PS3/360/Wii games and watch the look on the clerk's face when one comes up free ;).
I pre-ordered Toy Story Mania from Amzn when the ECA discount was active, it was fun for a short while on the Wii, but was a definite let down from the ride. I played through all the levels and traded it in pretty quick. The only real positive is that you don't have to wait 45-minutes in line at Disneyland (I was there last week). But if it drops to $14.99 or less for this sale, I would say it's a great pick-up.
 - yeah, 45-60 minutes when I was there. And no FastPass either - WTF!? It also kept breaking down.
They can't so if you have a defective one any receipt will do.
Found Destroy all Humans 360 POG (don't remember this one being reported)
I found one but it was actually from the old November prepacks! It had been sitting there all this time apparently.
Bullshit, I searched the thread, but couldn't find a definitive answer. The first post lists "Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games" under two different DS brackets (9.99 and 14.99), which is what caused the confusion.
Yeah, editing the lists is a kind of a pain so sometimes when I update a price I forget to remove it from the higher price bracket. I guess I didn't realize Mario & Sonic was on there at all before I found one for $9.99 and updated it the other day, so I didn't remove it from the $14.99 part. But besides, this is the DS version and all the confusion is over the Wii version. Plus if it was the Winter Olympics version I would have said so. I think the Winter Olympics DS game is still $19.99.

Is there a "master" trade thread I'm not seeing?

Dave

Wow, I can't believe you found so many Sluggers and M&S. I haven't seen a single Sluggers across 5-6 stores so far. They all sold out around Christmas when they dropped to $9.99.

As for a trade thread, no, I've always just allowed that sort of thing to go on in the main thread as an exception to the usual CAG rule. But if you want to make a trade thread I'll link it in the OP.

Went to the last nearby Blockbuster since 4 have closed in the past year. I did get some good titles though.

:360:Eternal Sonata (pretty scratched up)
:psp:God of War Chains of Olympus
:psp:Crisis Core
:ps3:Folklore

Could not find Ratchet & Clank for PS3. It's the only title I'm searching for right now. Well maybe also Rock Band 2.

I think I'm done until the tail-end of the the sale. I'm running pretty low on the moolah now with deal after deal beating my wallet to a bloody pulp. Now I've gotta wait it out until next payday. Paying full price (minus Amazon pre-order credit) for God of War III and Just Cause 2 did not help either. Sucks because this would be the perfect time to build a huge PS3 collection since no one seems to go to any of these Blockbusters anymore.

Took a little legwork, but this has been a great promotion overall. Between this and the 3 promotions at GS (extra 30% for PS3 trades, extra credit the more games you trade in, and $25 off a $29.99 game w/certain trades) I did all right.

Spent $59 and ended up with:

$57 in GS credit (adding in the tax bonus)
Resistance 2 (new)
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 (like new, complete)
Oblivion :ps3: (like new, complete)
Final Fantasy: Dissidia (like new, complete)
Dead Space :ps3: (complete)

The overall deal hinged on finding one Mario Sluggers and 4 extra KH 358/2 games (incredible trade value on that one!).

Glad I went out last night to buy a couple games as gifts for someone. Stores that had nothing the day before were now chock-full. One store received about 500 games! Ironically, I didn't buy anything there, but that's still impressive.

I'm not allowed to make a thread in the master list subforum.

And I found a store where they weren't marked correctly. Put them towards Infamous, LBP, GoW Collection and Uncharted. I made an instant PS3 collection of about 18 games for 100 bucks. Pretty ecstatic.

Sorry, I didn't mean to toss you under the bus. I appreciate all of the work you do in this thread. I'll check on the DS version of the Winter Olympics this afternoon.

Picked up a few good titles at my BBV today:

Overlord 360 (complete) - $9.99
Lair (complete) - Free
Tomb Raider Anniversary 360 (complete) - $6.99
Enchanted Arms 360 - Free

I am *still* trying to find Folklore. My BBV didn't have it. Anyone that did willing to trade? There were a lot of good titles at my BBV that I could pick up for you as a trade if you couldn't find what you were looking for.

Thanks!

-I visited four Blockbusters yesterday and all but one was running the B1G1 sale. That one that didn't was a store that was closing which I didn't know before I made the trip out. Anyways... two were a bust.

I scored:

Onechanbara 9.99
Mario Super Sluggers 9.99

Super Smash Bros. Brawl 14.99
Wanted 14.99

Also couldn't find, and am looking for, DIRT 2 for 360 or PS3. Thanks.

Stopped by my local BBV for round two today, and found out that a lot of the games I passed on previously made good flips to GS. Here's what I picked up (all $14.99):

Bakugan Battle Brawlers (Wii) x 2
Princess and the Frog (Wii) x 2
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (360) x 3
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (Wii)

So I spent $65.81 after tax + B1G1, and made $92.98 at GS. :D Wish I had known about the Marvel Super Hero Squads for Wii, though. My BBV has three of them in stock, and they trade in for $8.75. I *might* have to stop in for a round three and trade in some of my unwanted games with the Super Hero Squads. I really can't afford to spend more than another $30 there... But I get paid tomorrow. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU-!

EDIT:
Also couldn't find, and am looking for, DIRT 2 for 360 or PS3. Thanks.
Don't get your hopes up. 360 and PS3 Dirt 2 retails for $29.99 at BBV. The only way people have been getting the 360 and PS3 versions for $14.99 is because they're sometimes falsely tagged with the Wii version's sticker.

I scored

No more heroes
Animal cross city folks.

I don't think I want them anymore, since I cant find the trade list for these BBV games, I'll do it right here I guess. I'll let them go for $19 shipped. Either that or I'll return it. Don't know why I bought these games..

Ah, didn't know that - thanks for the tip. They had DIRT 2 Wii at mine for $14.99.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Wii version is $14.99, right? So that makes it not such a great flip IMO. I generally don't do the GS thing unless I can double my money, especially when I'm spending cash as I have to now at BBV. At $14.99 it is $7.50 -> $8.75, or at best $13.13 if you have 6 games to trade and an Edge card (for the 50% bonus). I guess the $13.13 is OK, as it is nearly double. I have a few prepacks I may want to just dump at GS as I don't want incomplete games for myself, but I only have 5. I can pad the 6 games trade with that if I can find it.

That one might be even harder to find than Folklore. First you have to find one that was mispriced and even then the employee has to change it for you. There's 2 stores that are a bit of a hike from me (don't even know if they're still open) and I'm pretty sure that one of them would've mispriced that since almost none of the games are correctly priced. However, the manager there knows me from my days of BBV->GS flipping and knows damn well I know the prices of the games before I go in. Every time I managed to find one that was priced less than it was supposed to be, he wouldn't let me go on it. Maybe I'll get lucky and he won't be there if I go back.

To be honest, hardly any of the games I've been picking up at BBV have been "great flips." Transformers, Princess and the Frog, and Dirt 2, for example, were all under $8 in base TIV, but it hasn't stopped me from making ~$30 in credit each trip. Plus, I've got a few games I've been looking at to get rid of, but I haven't felt the need to trade them in yet because I've been waiting for a time I'll need them to qualify for the "Trade 6" promo. This would be a good time for me, then.

Went back to my Blockbuster and here's what I made out with...

Bionic Commando 360 POG - $6.99
Fable 2 360 POG - $6.99
Red Faction: Guerrilla 360 POG - $6.99
No More Heroes Wii - $9.99
Universe at War 360 - $4.99
Watchmen 360 - $9.99
20oz Sprite - $1
Theater Box of Raisinets - $1
Pack of Kettle Corn Popcorn - $1
(ADDING IN THE B1G1 DEAL)
TOTAL = $28

Got the concessions with the games since the guy actually when to the back to find the cover art and manuals for my POGs, but he only could get Fable 2's stuff. Still I know him selling the concessions helps him with the Manager getting hours and such, so I figure i'll be a nice guy. Not too bad at all.

Hit 2 of the stores I've already been to during lunch. One of them doesn't seem to get much business, and even less of that for games (actually, in six trips, I've been the only one looking through the bins). Found:

Destroy All Humans x2 (complete) - 14.99 --> $20 credit each @ BB
Mario Super Sluggers x1 (disc) - 9.99

And for the deal, I grabbed The Show 08, Prince of Persia 360 and Shadow of the Colossus PS2, but those are mostly for my own collection. One of the stores has had computer problems and couldn't price stuff earlier in the week, so that's why there were empty my first trip. I think I've scoured the area pretty well by now!

I noticed at one store one employee was talking to another about his "bundle" sales. Apparently it is for some sort of candy bundle deal - I guess they do need to sell a certain amount, which is why I see them pushing it all the time (not on me, but on regular rental customers).

So, yeah, if you have a particularly helpful employee go ahead and buy a "bundle". The guy at my local store asked me on the way out if I had manuals for all the games I bought. I get in the habit of only buying ones with manuals, but if I had known he was perhaps going to offer to get me some I might have bought other things (and bought a bundle as well ;)).

yes, the candy bundles are one of our top priorities that get tracked along with direct access and game presales.

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games

Has anyone tried flipping any of these sale games to the Best Buy $20/$30 trade in spring special they have going on right now? There are a bunch that can be traded in there, plus a bunch that trade in for the $25 off $29.99 and higher GS thing.

I would love to do that except I have bills and bought my load to sell (although, I have a few for myself of course ;). ).

Only reason I'd buy anything from the BOGO sale is to flip it to GS to make Assassin's Creed 2 $5 or to flip to BB to get enough credit to get a copy of LBP GOTY once they finally frickin' drop the price to $30 like everyone else.
